ACTUALLY DISABLE THE TOMES, WHY ARE THEY EVEN A THING OMG I JUST REMEMBERED THAT THE SAME AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WANT THE TOMES DISABLED AS THEY DO A MAP RESET MAKE ANOTHER POLL!
  2. 6 points
Not true, the character is more valuable to you than you think - you will never get any amount of money worth the time you put in to it, keep it and if you decide to play again you have an account at least!

Well done on getting meditation nearly to 50, I would keep going on that. You have the makings of an up and coming archaeologist too. Farming and Hot Food cooking are useful skills if you ever wanted to try priesthood, and in any case you'll see more benefits as these climb. You did not mention which meditation path you are on. If you can enchant grass that's a bonus, and your animal husbandry would pair well with this (I'd keep it below 50), or if you are on PoK you've very nearly got to a meditation level to protect most of your skills on death - peace of mind if you want to grind any of those skills higher. You've a good well-rounded basic toon there - one that could survive in most situations, however you decide to play. Try not to think of your toon only in terms of its monetary value - it's a real possession that can give you a lot more fun and stories to tell in the years ahead.

This is absolutely just short term bandaids people where told that they could have temporary solutions like this to fill the gap or wait till around november when bigger things are planned. People expressed they would be alright with some simple to implement but changes to still throw the meta up with another full reset likely coming near the end of the year so that's the approach that was taken for this. You are right that there is less than normal resources and most of the help are people throwing a hand in outside stuff they are already doing so we do have to pick and choose what we can realistically hope to accomplish in time.

Then why are you here trying to shriek down a suggestion that's for PVE? GTFO

I understand the call for skill resets, so that it would be a clean slate for everyone on Epic, it'd also require the end of Freedom to Epic skills transfer mechanics, and possibly another round of skill transfers from Epic to Freedom, for those who didn't wish to continue on Epic, or wished to preserve their skills for Freedom, while accepting an Epic wipe. From the beginning the Home servers have been a contentious issue, not just between the opposing Kingdoms, but between the Kingdoms themselves on Home and Elevation servers, but removing them from Epic is not the answer, in truth, without the home servers there is no difference essentially between Elevation and Chaos other than the small differences in mechanics, and the connection to Freedom Isles, the Home servers are one of the major factors that made Epic so different and attractive for me personally, a view shared by many of those who spent years playing almost exclusively on them. I also understand the importance that the PvP community places on Elevation, it's a PvP cluster after all, but that emphasis on 'pure' PvP need not be at the expense of those players who value Wurm not just for one aspect of it's play. So by all means, wipe the home servers in the quest for a 'pure' PvP server, and accept that it will diminish much of Epic's unique character and style, or return things like ore caps to lead Home server players to Elevation, rather than force players into a 'our way or the highway' approach which will lead to many like me, soft-PvP players, to abandon the cluster altogether, few though we are, at present Home server players far outnumber Elevation players, and for myself, I'd rather retreat permanently to Freedom than be forced to play on Elevation for the sake of 'purity' and PvP ethos. A smaller Elevation has a lot of potential to revitalise Epic, at least in the short term, while the Dev team work on other aspects of PvP, I am supportive of change where Epic is concerned, frankly, it's never been more in need of a refreshing of interest, the Elevation map is to large for the population it served, and even a 1K map would serve the population of Epic at present, so a 2K map will certainly suffice for what will initially be a rise in population, ( it's keeping the population that has been the issue), and if followed by a rework of PvP mechanics that can keep momentum going, I see no reason why a full reset of Elevation would not be a success. For Elevation at least. We'll always have a disparity between 'top tier' accounts and new players, new players not only have to settle in, learn the game and survive, but also learn to take defeat from enemies they cannot hope to best , in some cases it may take months, or years to reach the stage where they can function effectively against old, veteran PvP players, I don't believe there are any shortcuts to that process, even full skill resets won't prevent experienced players outskilling and bounding ahead of the new players, since veteran PvP players know how to build a PvP character far more effectively than the average Wurmian, (I include myself in the average category), we saw this when Epic first began, with everyone starting from scratch and within a few short weeks the veterans outstripped the inexperienced and that gap. if anything, widened over the ensuing years, so skill resets will be ineffective or counter productive in equalling the playing field for old and new players. Most of the other tweaks are squarely aimed at experienced top tier players anyway, I don't bother much with hellies, never seen a tome, and never took advantage of the higher levels of meditation, while they may be welcomed by PvP players who are a bit bored and feel the need for a level playing field in top tier, they don't have much effect on average players like me, I welcome those changes for what they are, but if there were to be a skill reset, those changes would be unnecessary for a long time. Anyway, we'll see what we get I suppose, just had to put in a comment explaining my vote in favour of change, and slap the inevitable 'delete home servers' crowd with an alternative viewpoint.

Same solution as here: Go to Start, Run, type "javaws -viewer" and hit enter. Highlight Wurm and hit the red X to delete it. Click "Close" in the bottom right. The Java Control Panel should be open. Click the "Security" tab. Click "Certificates". Highlight "OnetooFree AB" and click "Remove". Close everything and try running Wurm again.

As individuals, the GMs are great people and amazing volunteers. They help us greatly to right wrongs and get us out of buggy situations. However, this is an -expected- part of their job, and one of the reasons they exist. A GM doesn't deserve a commendation for chasing my boat who zoned without me, as that is their job. They do deserve a commendation when after finding a boat, they turn me into a cheese and chase me around for a little bit. It is what they do beyond their duties that makes us love them. ❤️@Astarte However, as a team, they fail miserably. They have singlehandedly devastated the morale of players by things such as mass bannings of individuals who were completely innocent by failing to do due diligence in their work. Things such as the WU kingdom bans, the Necro incident, the Banning of Propheteer and Joey (both banned for ... who even knows...? Things done outside the game?), the temp banning of Mikhael, etc. These things have made many of their victims (and they are indeed victims) leave for more fair pastures because they dont want to deal with the uncertain environment where you can be banned for no reason whatsoever at any time even when things happen when you are not logged on. My point is we need to be able to tell the difference. I love the members of the GM team, but hate how the team as a whole approaches certain problems. Propheteer is still banned, a person who brought to this game so much the whole playerbase wants him back. I think thats why people are dissapointed with the team, not with the individuals, who have done great work for us.

Thanks! I am not around in WO anymore. After ~14 years of WO, I made the move to WU (I was playing before Wurm "went Gold"), I play on the Sklotopolis server now. It's nice there, I feel like I'm retired and can slow down and relax, enjoy the scenery without stressing over...... the little stuff.

I think it's fair to say that most of the time the GM team is spot on and damn good at their job. I'll be the first to admit that the GMs have far more limited tools than we developers would like them to have, and they do their best within the scope of those tools. You don't need to go further than a WU server to know this is the truth, and it would take a full-time developer a considerable amount of time to make the situation better. True that there are some tools we've held back from WU, but the majority are there. We have done some things, such as a log for deleted items. Data storage is constantly a concern though (for now), so we can't simply log every action everyone does and thus have the ability to completely undo every action. Just some developer insight. I've been honored to work alongside the GMs on a number of cases over the years due to my position as Game Server Administrator. My vote was "no opinion" as I'm staff and wouldn't want to add a vote that'd be considered biased. Edit: And just to be clear, my comment about the tools is meant to highlight their skill in dealing with day to day situations.

The 1 hour KD isn't enough, you need RESISTANCE. Why does 1 Hour KD matter if a typical fight lasts 15 minutes. For example. There are 5 enemy on me and 5 enemy True strike. Why does the CD matter at this point, I'm dead. make it resistance, so you can coordinate the spells better - Xx cast true strike on, xx, then Xo, cast true strike on OX - managing who's on wat cd and who's on what resistance is better than a flat 1 hour CD that does nothing.

This. What "legacy" is that? Do you even know what that means? The legacy of some freedomer that braved a troll and a few bears to build 2-3 guard towers deserves his own flag? ######. Do you even hear yourself right now? The banners, flags and wagons that you see on Freedom from "legacy" kingdoms like MR, JK and BL are not simply decoration. To a lot of us, they are an everlasting symbol of the blood sweat and tears that some of us put into years of playing on Chaos. I don't have JK flags on my deed because I like the color, and certainly not because I'm waiting 10 years to sell them for 1g each or whatever.... they are there because they mean something to me from my history on Chaos. Half of you will claim it is the "uniqueness" of having your own flag/banner that drives you to +1 this ridiculous suggestion, but the truth is you just want to make coin from selling flags like Chaos kingdoms do once in a blue moon, without having to take any risk of sailing to Chaos or even having to pay 1 gold like we did to have your own design. Pay 1 gold to start, found and build 20+ deeds, build hundreds of guard towers and supply about a thousand players with armor, weapons, tools and enchants and then come back and tell me again about your "legacy", Pffft.

Considering all the hate the Epic Cluster seems to receive, and people demanding that the cluster have something unique to it, which we are well past the mechanics of uniqueness (everyone now can get tomes, moonmetal, and the lot.) Why do we not just make it unique by making it simple? Why not just take what the game used to be, no moonmetal, tomes, valeri, default gods, etc. (meditation?) Make that the new server with the current armor changes, and balances people like of which can be picked and chosen. The goal being a more vanilla style of game play. This should appease everyone, a fresh map, fresh game, mixed with a refreshing change to what is considered the "end game" content. Let me know what you think, provide feedback, and feel free to criticize. EDIT: This can also be used as a great ground floor for new balance updates, such as the Dual Wielding that Xallo suggested, the clean slate nature encourages experimentation. Please give PVE alliances with enough members the opportunity to have a PVE alliance flair package similar to kingdoms. There is no reason to deny us this... There is a larger amount of players playing the pve portion than the PvP portion of the game. Codeclub AB will make money because there will be more people paying for this feature. Why shouldn't people that dont participate in pvp be able to form thier own pve banners/wagons/tents the syetem is already in the game. Pros - more income for Codeclub AB - more color - ability to showcase/ form alliance spirit/pride - less inequality in the pvp/pve balance Cons -Some more work for code club AB introducing new graphics (but i think the skinning process for those items is already there) -PVP will lose profit selling thier special colors. Solutions? One option would be dissallowing certain colors in freedom so pvp players could maintain some pride "pvp colors" ( ex. red or black or w/e) increasing the price to 2g for alliance flair package since it is less volatile than pvp. Please give feedback and state where you play pvp or pve or both. Thanks for your time and i play on Xanadu PVE only

Hi Everyone On saturday we encountered an issue with the restart that could have caused potential catastrophic disruptions to the game. Luckily we were able to address it prior to any loss (and avoided the need for a rollback) but this was at the cost of a significant downtime and multiple restarts. Due to the lost time from this we will be providing 5 hours sleep bonus during our update on the 6th of June. The usual cap of 10 hours will apply. So spend your week getting your sleep bonus down!

I think that a lot of people see the homeservers as like a trap that people fall into. The homeservers have no real downside, so people will live on them and settle and build and then get attached to their deeds there, which then deters them from heading over to try pvp on Elevation, and then the Elevation players die out from lack of new recruits. Its hard to convince people to come over to help fight and raid and conquer on Elevation when they don't want to leave behind what they built for themselves on the homeserver. A lot of people then never actually get into pvp on Elevation, often setting artificial barriers for themselves like "when i finish this deed" or "when i get x body strength", all the while remaining on the homeserver for the safety it provides, and by the time they surpassed their own artificial entry barriers to pvp, elevation has died off. In short, try Elevation. Do it while you still can, don't wait and miss your chance. You are good enough to make it there. Everyone is.

Intolerance can be an "opinion" as well. And it can hardly be considered tolerant what Gladiator expressed. Rather it was fanatic and extremely narrow minded. And that is exactly what bigot means: A person with a narrow, fanatic mindset, unable to understand or at least be able to sustain and tolerate different views and ways. Definitions different from yours: - One who is narrrowly or intolerantly devoted to his or her opinions and prejudices. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bigot https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bigot That matches perfectly what Gladiator uttered here in the forum. In this case, the narrow-mindedness goes so far that he advocates the destruction of the game infrastructure of the 90% who hold different views and act differently from him. "Because it makes no sense." To him. So it would be good if you would base your defense on better founded arguments. The term was not polemic and well founded on the previous points made. You cannot expect applause when somebody advocates the destruction of your ingame presence. And as usual, after the rant the whining about "insults". Such a crybaby.
  35. 1 point
I'll up one you on this one because I'm generous. My first "insult" is my criticism of you constructing an argument based on a very narrow minded view that disregards "outside" perspectives, which again, is a bad place to form an opinion from. I have elaborated on why that is a bad opinion, coming from a bad place and resulting in bad outcomes and implications in the last post, which you have ignored and will continue to ignore on your current trajectory. My second "insult" is...against your argument? Because I think it's a bad argument that is unjustifiable and unwarranted for; an absolute non-sequitur for anyone with a shred of respect towards other people's choices to which you are not entitled to have any control over? Yeah, that's called criticism. My third "insult" is an observation that Ekcin has already made in a different color; that you opine in a zealous and dismissive fashion that stems from extreme selfishness and narrowmindedness. Am I being rude in all of this and could be more civil? Yeah. But you're certainly no stranger to it and have professed to not caring about stepping on someone's toes. So seeing you throw your hands up in a kneejerk ego-protection fashion where the insulting implications is all you can look at because you're so conceited about your position and its legitimacy is pretty funny. Oh, and before you or Angelkaine say it: "You said his position is not legitimate! That's intolerant! That's against his freedom of opinion!" you can have any opinion you like. That doesn't automatically make your position correct, rational, justifiable, and certainly not beyond criticism. And even if we can not determine objective truth, what's left is that I am also free to have an opinion that yours is...disagreeable. (This preemptive explanation is not unfounded condescension by the way, that's exactly the nuance that has been glaringly glossed over already, so I'm saying it again in case notes were not taken.)

  37. 1 point
@Gladiator Spoken through the flower, but that's the main contention that @Ekcinhas already made their objections to, and rightfully so. Didn't think you'd be so daft not to get the memo that not being able to concede that people may want to play the game differently is a bad place to start out with formulating an "opinion". And two can play the dismissal game: PvE not making sense to you is not an argument for destroying it, because it obviously makes sense to plenty of people, and your singleminded perception of it barely outweighs what makes the majority of WO today. And I did pretty much expect your argument of "More for me", it's terribly predictable. And completely shortsighted, ultimately detrimental and purely selfish. Now, people are allowed to be selfish, but the irony here is that if you are, so am I, and so is everyone else who doesn't want to touch PvP with a ten foot pole, so who wins in the end? Your "argument" of "people should cater to me" holds absolutely no water in a society that respects people's agency and personal liberty. I wouldn't for the life of me even think of forcing you into PvE, because I know by your own words you'd simply just quit the game instead, and you'd be in your complete right to do so. Now what did I gain from "destroying PvP"(assuming that's the scenario)? PvE purity points for defending the only and most noble way of playing Wurm? Oh right, we got a fraction of those players on PvE now who find it lowkey miserable and would rather be somewhere else. But because of our callous disregard for their preferences, it had to be taken away so we can have more neighbors and live in somewhat less of an abandoned wasteland. I'd rather people have their choice.
  38. 1 point
Except when it's a bigoted opinion? I see where you're coming from but I think you're reaching a bit with that general statement. In that case I could just say "It's my opinion that he's being bigoted". And it is, but I can substantiate it rather than tossing a definition at someone while misunderstanding the nuance about why it's not applicable. Something that I hate, because it's a petty piece of sophistry and rather lazy. Let me clarify at this point: He's perfectly entitled to his opinion that PvE doesn't make sense, it's not the particular opinion he holds, but it'd be sanctimonious to claim now that he doesn't hold PvE and all who play it in contempt precisely because it's "nonsensical" to him and takes away from his selfish desires. "PvE is nonsense" fine "PvE is nonsense and it should be destroyed to serve my own agenda." Not fine. Unless you think it's okay to pursue a course of mutual destruction between PvE and PvP. And I'm of the strong opinion that it is not. What grand narrative is that? The "misuse" will be dispelled shortly. Meanwhile, most would be gone from the game for good instead. Those are the people you are being intolerant to, plain and simple. You don't think they have a place in WO and should be done away with, because they have a preference or opinion on the gameplay they enjoy that you disagree with. I don't know how one can be more "on the nose" intolerant. You might want to pay attention here, @Angelklaine, as your proposed definition says "holding opinions", while you say "an opinion being expressed". You might not see these little cracks but the little changes in expression are rather jarring to me. It's like you're trying to limit it artificially so that it could only possibly apply to me - because I'm the one reacting to something being expressed, and Gladiator "just puts it out there", but he's clearly holding other opinions in contempt which your definition perfectly applies to aswell. I'm not accusing you of arguing in bad faith, but this is just to underline why I think it is in the very least "bad form". Step 1: Ignore argument. Step 2: Claim the opposition has no arguments. Granted, I could have been more elaborate on that point. I figured it was said well enough by Ekcin that I don't have to be so verbose, so I'll reiterate: WO PvE is a sandbox game, it has whatever "purpose" or "meaning" you assign it to. People like different stuff, which is subject to ones own opinions and preferences. People are allowed to like different stuff. Including PvP. That's where I stand. It's clearly not where you stand, and that makes you the intolerant one.

Hi Everyone As we have discussed, we have a short term plan for an update on Epic, with the following changes: What we are looking at in addition to this is the possibility of a reset to Elevation. At this point we'd like to hear from you in regards to whether you want this to happen. We have opened this as a forum poll for you all to vote on a reset for Elevation with the following details: Now, the usual caveat applies. This is not a 50% pass non binding, and we have chosen a forum vote as we are able to see who votes and discount alts as well as other factors, but your voice is important and we would like to see how you all feel. For discussion of the aspects please refer to the feature feedback thread here: Voting will run until Tuesday, 11th of June, so get cracking! Retrograde & the Wurm team
