    Alright, here’s what’s happening over the next few months. As said in the last dev blog, we’ve switched to a different update cycle with monthly smaller updates and interspersed larger marketable updates, aiming for a few large updates a year on a predictable schedule. This month’s small update includes the client rendering distance changes that have been worked on for the past while, as well as some new creature AI additions, and the usual slew of bug fixes. These AI changes are intended to finish off the work started a long time ago on the Valrei creatures with the initial Uttacha changes, making them more interesting encounters in combat than the usual ‘target and wait’ that a large portion of PvE combat is currently. These Valrei creature changes will ideally make any fights involving the remaining creatures more interesting and varied than normal, and will lead into some content for the planned large update later on. The June and July updates are currently planned to include a few new UI changes for the preview client, as well as overall UI QoL features and general combat & combat UI improvements with some focus on giving more information to the player about what is happening in combat, as well as the usual bug fixes and possibly another new feature that I’m not ready to share yet. The first planned large update in this new cycle will be a large expansion to an existing set of content in Wurm Online which will see players exploring new lands and working together against a common enemy - hereafter codenamed Frontier. It will combine a lot of existing features and recent changes in Wurm into a big chunk of new content available to all players - old and new. The Valrei creature changes going live this month are a precursor to some of the work that will be involved with this update, and the reason they are going out early is to help us gather feedback over the next short while to lead into some of the planned changes for Frontier. As I’ve said in the past I don’t want to share too many details before they are finalised or well underway, so the most I will give out right now is that it will be a large update with new repeatable content that should entice players with a wide range of interests, and touch most parts of Wurm as a whole. Later in the year after Frontier is complete we’ll be moving onto extending the building options available to everyone, and later on after that we will begin working on plans for introducing another new skill to the game. Frontier will also be a precursor for big changes that will come to Epic in the future, and feedback from how everything goes later in the year will inform us on how we implement the current plans that we have. These changes to Epic won’t be anytime in the next few months, but when they do come they will involve a large overhaul to the cluster in an attempt to bring it closer to the original design for Epic years ago. We will be addressing the larger complaints of the Epic community in that update - but some smaller changes will be heading to live in the coming months as well. For those changes see the recent feedback thread posted here. More info about the exact plans we have for later on will be shared after Frontier is live. As always, more information about everything we’re working on will be shared closer to the dates that they’ll be coming in. Frontier will be accompanied by a marketing push to help make the most out of the new update cycle, and is where everyone will get a lot more info about what exactly is coming into the game.

    Shiny! Fancy! I would love a second option for the current wood floors (much like brick vs round brick wall/floors options) Would really show off some of the Fine Carpentry furnishings we have gotten over the last few years. It's not like people are going to be immediately clamoring for new, beautiful rugs to go on them or anything ...

    In the latest dev stream, the following question and answer came up: Q: "Is a skill reset on epic on the table for updates later on down the line." A: "Down the line there will be large changes like that, yes, but not any time in the next few months." Can this be expanded on further@Retrograde? I know I'm not alone when I say, I do not want a skill reset on the server which I have spent the last 7/8 years playing. And people are going to want to know if their years of playing are going to be undone, whether or not it's "in the next few months". Personally I feel that the people demanding skill resets would probably be better off with a Challenge-esque server cluster where they can fight with sticks in perpetuity. Although I'm guessing Challenge was stopped for a reason?

    TY for the time and effort to offer up this to us. It does alot to assuage concerns or questions, and informs us of things to come and generate excitement. I hope these are a scheduled feature. Nice Job to all of you and Thank you for taking the time and putting meaning to things.

    Hi all, We’ve been aware of the discussions on the forums regarding the desire for a completely new and fresh experience in PvP on Epic. The issue we face with this is the long term requirement in order to set something like this up. As such we've compiled a list of changes we can make in a short timeframe that we feel address the majority of issues raised. Everything below is planned for just after the end of june update about a month from now, but is dependent on a vote to be held soon to see if the majority is in favor of a reset to the Elevation map and some pretty heavy mechanic changes for epic in general. Everything below is not final and we are more then open suggestions of things to add/remove/change. Larger changes to Epic as a whole are planned for later in the year, and will include any successful changes over the next few months as well as extra planned content and changes for that time. Changes below are all Epic Only Changes and some are also Elevation Only Changes General Changes(All of Epic) New 2k Sized Map by Ausimus This week we will open a public poll on the forums to vote on the possibility of a new map for Elevation. The current 4k map size is a bit large so we would like to go back to a 2k size map. This map will be a temporary map and will be unlikely to be around past the end of this year we have future plans that could easily force Elevation to change again in the future. Resetting of the map would also come with no new map given for the first month or two, allowing for exploration and unexpected confrontation. Deeds disbanding on a set number of chain drains(Elevation Only) A common complaint is deeds can be near impossible to disband even after its clear the owner has not been defending it in days. Our current plan is to require 5 drains in a row to disband a deed but we are open to suggestions on what number of drains in a row should trigger an auto disband of that deed. Meditation effects will cap out at 9, effect above 9 will no longer work on epic. Scaling SOTG is disabled meaning no sotg at all. Hate path creature damage effect will be changed to something non damage boosting. Insanity Clean wound will be reworked to heal more wound types. Balancing all the effects over level 9 are just not viable in the time we have, we propose disabling meditation skills/passives over level 9. These will be revisited in the future when there is more time to spend on Meditation as a whole. Stone Skin, True Strike, and Continuum will have their cooldowns drastically increased to 1 hour. Currently these spells are way to powerful and can be cast almost endlessly with enough karma. We are looking for some feedback on what you think good cooldown lengths might be for each of these spells on their own. Physical Damage Resistance/Penalty will be replaced by Fall Damage. Stacking DR can get a bit crazy, the idea behind this is to change the physical damage valrei trait and replacing it with fall damage similar to the water damage one. Rare vehicles will no longer increase the speed of an under crewed boat it will now increase its cargo. This perk has been long known to be one of the best rare item bonuses in the game for pvp, we would like to remove the passenger bonus and instead allow rare+ boats to have increased cargo areas instead. 30% increased cargo space per rarity level Reduce Hell Horse Speeds Hell horses might be a little too fast, we are looking for ideas on how you would like to see them slowed down some ideas include reducing rare shoe bonus and removing the always on speed traits. Combat skill Soft Caps To help balance out the top tier accounts vs people just joining we would like offer a sort of soft cap on some combat related skills including body stats. This would not make leveling them any slower but would reduce your effectiveness per level in that skill above a set level for each. Your total carry weight(for example) and other less combat oriented areas will still receive full benefit from levels. Open up quick travel between any server border with a 1 hour cooldown for everyone on the boat before they may cross using that again. Many know that sailing between servers on the epic cluster can turn into 2+ hour long trips, I would like to find some reasonable limit to help prevent abuse but I think we can find a good middle ground any suggestions appreciated. Speed up horse breeding Currently losing too many horses in a short period can mean sitting back for weeks to restock. The current plan is to speed up gestation to roughly 2 days until birth but leave growth periods the same. Remove Karma Recall(Along with recall being gone will mean no teleporting out of stupid situations you might get into). It’s no fun to be tracking someone down from a sticky situation they got into and for them to just vanish from being cornered back to a safe deed with everything they own. Map Reset Specific Changes (Elevation Only) Reduce the max slope you can dig to something under 300 while keeping the skill you need to dig it the same. This will make creating massive dirt walls a bit harder and allow more people to help build deeds instead of requiring 99+ digging accounts to finish walls. Reduce the max rock you can surface mine and place mine doors on while keeping the skill required the same. Rock pits are an issue as they add onto dirt walls, though with mine door restrictions below might not be needed feed back on this appreciated. Can only have 4 mine doors placed on any given 11x11 area and must have 3 spaces between each individual mine door. We all know of the current mine door meta, we would like to end that with this new map and put some hard caps on the amount of mine doors in a given area. We’re looking for your feedback on this all but won’t be responding immediately, instead we’ll be collecting some questions and things to discuss on the devstream later today.

    Spirited Away You should not be able to cast Phantasm on guards on any server and make them kill bred, cared for, or friendly creatures on deeds. The guards should not have been targeting these creatures on deed. A fix is prepared, but until then, DO NOT CAST Phantasms on guards! You have been warned! Thank You, Wurm Online Team

    The wind condition "light breeze" is a disgrace and hated by every sailor. While rowing boats remain unaffected, all larger ship's motion is severely crippled, even if they are high ql and runed. Now a dead calm situation might happen, sure. But light breeze feels like it is nearly half of the wind conditions, ok in fact maybe 20%. And that is irreasonably much. Accepted that wind conditions are planet wide which is meteorologically impossible but programming wise inevitable, but that the worst of all wind conditions prevails so often does not follow in a world of seas and islands. It does not add any fun but lots of frustration. The suggestion is to cut the occurrance of light breeze to 5% of the wind conditions, and that it changes far more often to stronger wind, say, at least every 10 minutes RL (1.3 Wurm hrs.) at minimum. The most frequent wind conditions should be strong breeze and breeze and gale. I would even like that the gap of the light breeze cut would be filled by stronger wind conditions, let us name it tempest, which would not add boat speed (in fact in strong storms the sails must be reefed to avoid damage and mast breaking) but can cause damage on ships.

    How about something different altogether. The game can measure depth below waterlevel, so why not have it adjust the wind depending on how far you are from the sea floor. Say within 10 dirt of surface a lightbreeze(usually for docking) and so on. Just an example, numbers could be adjusted of course.

    this will be a complaint for sailors until the end of time. I sail all the time in RL and nothing worse than a week of light breeze. I sit on the dock, watching those calm waters and can't think of what to do with my time. I usually decide to go chop more wood, or maybe hop in my fishing boat to catch a few more fish. Possibly go canoeing or paddle boarding. There are places where the wind seems to blow all the time, but those are rare. Ultimately we are lucky that light breeze is a condition that doesn't last for days at a time, like it does in RL. So rather than asking for light breeze to go away or be far less, I think just faster boat speeds overall would be nice. Fortunately we have had improvements, like portals to any server we choose, when crossing server borders. That honestly makes sailing incredibly tolerable now. I just feel that if we take away too many things that help the game feel more life like, then it just won't be the same game.

    Hmmm ... Maybe be able to beeswax all fine carpentry furniture items. .. If you want to make it a "special perk" type thing, it's a recipe Fine carpentry picks up at level 70, called FRENCH POLISH. Uses the new graphics engine shaders to add both a slight darkness plus a shine, to make it stand out a bit from normal furniture. Requires some help from a decently skilled Alchemist, who makes the actual polish for the Fine Carenter to use (cross skill) materials used: Beewax - from bees, duh! Wire brush or some sort of rubbing tool, maybe a pelt is fine. Turpentine - a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin from live trees, mainly pines. Uses the alcohol Beverage skill maybe, or just Cooking. Linseed oil usually requires FLAX, which actually would be a lovely new farm crop with many many other potenial future uses (Linen cloth, linseed oil for paints-not-dyes, goldleaf gilding, many food and medicine uses.) However for the short term, perhaps cottenseed oil will work as well. . FLAX -- how has Wurm survived without it for so long? Good for Cooking, Alchemy, Fine Carpentry, Tailoring, more. it is SOOO PRETTYY !!! Used in the future at some unknown time, for LINEN CLOTH (you know, when we do the 2027 Textiles Overhaul with Fur Clothing etc etc ...) Part of a HIGH LEVEL TAILORING OVERHAUL Linen is laborious to manufacture, but the fiber is very strong, absorbent and dries faster than cotton. Garments made of linen are valued for their exceptional coolness and freshness in hot and humid weather. Linen rope also has many useful uses! SEE:   WEAVING TOUR WAY TO SUCCESS

    What I can attempt to de-code out of this statement is that a new "hunting" server will be created on which this will occur. If this is correct, which may also include Valrie new/beefedup/interesting creature mechanics, hopefully they will be isolated to this maybe new hunting server and not infect any of the current PvE servers. Basically my response would be is that if this aspect of additions does not effect current PvE gameplay on the current PvE servers and can be avoided by simply not traveling to this "Frontier" then I am fine with it. Since at this time the whole thing is so non-specific and a nebulous mystery I really can't make any conclusive judgement as to what may or may not be happening here. Yeah, what it is ain't exactly clear... =Ayes=

    ^ @Darklords We dont want items to cross for Elevation, at least give us that "fresh" start experience since we can't have the skill one. Living inside rabbit holes and working together to get a deed up from scratch, please. you should have to cross naked imo. lol

    I'd like both "General villager" NPCS that wander around and special purpose NPCs. Like a lay priest who says a few random lines of holy scripture if you talk to them, or a bartender who sells drinks, things like that. Maybe even asign them a bed and "work area" so they go home at night and work during the day.

    Why would you want to cap home server skills at 50? that would just turn them into a ghost town as their inhabitants either quit or move to freedom.

    .7 total cr mod, on top of the fact they can max war bonus in 10 minutes and have 30% cr and damage on top of it yea, home servers need more protection lol let them keep the attacker nerfs, but cap all skills while on your own home servers, to 50 effective, seems like a reasonable trade

    Just out of curiousity, how's this project going after I decided to leave? When I checked the progress of the canal a couple of days ago, I found that from the east side up most of the veins blocking passage are gone. 97% of those were removed by Qdlaty (bows in respect); the rest by me, Ajala and Shamflam. At the west side, however, things are a mess. Part of the floor is removed to maximum depth; even in area's were veins were still present. Following that, the veins that were there weren't removed; although that's something that would've been a lot easier if the floor was there. But I won't go there anymore. Near the eastern entrance is another entrace, 2-3 tiles wide, but that entrance floor is low enough to have water on it. So not sure if this is planned to be a boat entrance or a road entrance. One of the veins in the area with the mined out floor is having a crate rack with a few crates near it. Both rack and crate have some damage, meaning the owner hasn't been there to pick both up for quite some time. All and all it's giving me the impression the entire project is abandonned, leaving a perfectly traversable (for low draft ships and all road travel) canal / tunnel into something that can be used by low draft ships only now.     I hope someone who knows more can assist. All I can add is that every time I get 20.00 quality food, there is no skill increase associated with it, and it seems to occur when the chef goes offline for some part of the process and "orphans" the ingredients so that they are no longer viewed by the game as the "owner" of the process. 20.00 food is food cooked by game mechanics (it was combined, it was heated, it turned into some recipe) but not by a particular player, because of some sort of interruption that breaks the link between the food and the chef..

    Having even faster skill gain on epic will get us into unlimited territory.. What I personally would love is the "newbie" level experience without all the high end stuff that makes it op now (mm, unique armor, tomes, high meditation, etc). Start from scratch with a crude knife in hand and enjoy the sandbox for 6+ months until we get something different..

    Alliance vs alliance!!!!!! This dynamic will really flow things x villages in areas could turn or be persuaded to turn, smaller villages will turn to bigger one's for protection, this would be sick!!!!! We could call them after houses Lol This will really help with the set-kingdoms we all expect to see. If it's in my interest to team with mondain to destroy a nearby village, I will and if its my interest to later team against him, I can, I can do it with no convert timer politics and talks if failed can turn to action. I could literally charge people for protection in my area until a bigger built kicks me out. You migjt see smaller groups this way, I really think this could be a core feature. Love to see this idea especially in the smaller map!

    There's been abit of a delay (I had to wait until my day job would let me take time off) but it's time to celebrate hitting 1,000 followers on Twitch you all! So we're celebrating the whole week starting from the 28th on Terraria Tuesday and ending on Sunday with Rimworld but importantly for you all we're having a special Wurm event! A Drunkalong! What is a Drunkalong and what are we doing? Well the event will be hosted the Indie server starting at 7pm GMT10+ feature a bunch of small events in-game such as a treasure hunt, wave assault and races; some assisted by the wonderful Wurm Team. Plus it will involve a ton of giveaways peaking with our grand prize of the winners choice of 50s OR a $50 steam giftcard. One of the fun events for this will be will be where the event gets it's name. Twitch chat (aka you guys!) will have the opportunity to be mixing my cocktails which randomly selected viewers will choose an ingredient to put in the glass, so make sure to drop by and make sure my next beverage is finished to perfection, or becomes a monstrosity. Finally I will also have a big announcement for a new kind of special event for Wurm Online which will be revealed on the night!
