imagine being worried about spies on a dead game

I cannot for the life of me understand why what you just said doesn't seem to permeate this entire community. How is it that only a few are really seeing what is going on? People should be angry.

About 6-8 months ago I was one of the biggest cheerleaders for this game. I mean if you look at my post count vs my time playing the game, you'd see how much time I've devoted to this game and the forums. But I have first hand felt the bite of the rapid decline of this game. Its been half a year since PVP had any significant updates, and even longer since there was a groundbreaking system introduced (no, battlecamps is not a groundbreaking system, pvp is dead). This is the first time since I started the game that I have considered cashing out. I just finished a massive project on Independence and realized that there is no point. Most of my friends have quit, there is literally no future in the horizon on the PVP servers, and the PVE lands are desolate everywehere you go. Case in point: That's a whole cluster. Out of those 7 people, Arakiel and myself make 2. That means there's 5 other people split between four servers. That's a ratio of about 1 person per server. But given the likely scenario that most of those are one guy in serenity with his alts, we're talking about 4 servers with maybe 3-4 real players playing on them. ??? How is this NOT a problem? No significant updates. No roadmap. No announced projects soon to be released. No players to play the game with. No real pvp of any substance. We are up in the air and nothing is happening. That's why some people are up in arms. The writing is in the wall and it says...

Don't take any offense from deskjet, he is just an angry child. One time people in MR killed him on his home server so he brought an alt to our capital to drop like 5 sand and spend a couple hours swearing at us and said I had a small pee pee

Great server I'm enjoying it a lot. Very responsive dev and friendly CA's. The people who are playing here are very helpful and a great bunch of people to spend time with. Take a look, can't do any harm

You mistake criticism in not wanting the game to die and fade away for "whining". An mmo requires players, especially for pvp. You may be content with playing on a server that has a monthly average of 6 players, while I, and obviously many others, look at the total pop right now and see 255 players on every server combined and think "this isn't right, please do something". You may be content with players not having a voice and just shutting up and watch the total premiums drop every week while we just play blind and look for things good, but as evident by the prems disappearing every week, the majority does not feel the same. If we are here speaking, that means we haven't decided to leave yet, should we just ignore the glaring issues until we decide to?

In the spirit intended in the op: Not necessarily in order of importance 1. Waterfalls! 2. Ability to create small ponds when not near enough to the water table (we can locate water tiles and build wells and fountains on them no matter how far from the water table, why can't we use that to then dig a small decorative pond in our gardens? 3. Revamped animal husbandry system that rewards rather than punishes the player with higher skills 4. Revamped pet system that allows you to actually keep them as proper pets and as battle companions (much like the OPs suggestion) 5.Revamped combat system, I don't pvp but even fighting mobs can be the most boring point and click routine after you are above the first few levels of skill so I can only imagine how dull the pvp must be 6.More uniques or 'boss' fights, set up so that the whole community can participate instead of a select elite few controlling them all (a game company worth it's salt should be able to design something that works for this) I'm sure there is more that I've forgotten for the moment but that's a few that stick in my mind. Not part of what the OP intended but on most minds these days anyway, as evidenced by many posts in this thread alone, more players. The 'elephant in the room' of declining numbers and NO advertising at all. I know there is a lot of disagreement on this subject, but to me this is the most glaring mistake I've ever seen any game make and I have never been able to understand this decision to not advertise. Because it has been a conscious decision, lots of reasons offered why it is not a good time or it will come in future etc but it never does. This one thing alone has made me personally question if Rolf actually wants WO to die a slow and painful death? If so I'd much rather he just pull the plug and get it over with. I love this game more than any other I've ever played, and that's a lot, and though I'm personally going through a bit of burn out slump at the moment, I have no plans to ever quit permanently until they shut it down. If I could afford it I'd offer Rolf the budget needed to properly advertise and grow this game, but that's wishful thinking I know. I'm not normally a 'moaner' who posts constant negative thinking on the game, but the elephant has simply got to be addressed and soon if we are going to be able to be focused on all the good stuff the dev team does and plans for us.

I remember being welcomed into Kyara waay back in the Beta and getting tutored by Ketza on terraforming and digging techniques (and then slaving as a dirt drone ) and felt like a part of a family and a productive member of some sort of community and it made me love this game. I think that I'm still chasing that high that I couldn't get from any other game. Hell, I even started learning English just to communicate better with the townsfolk. And now after logging in I got killed by the first 2 players I've seen without a chance to speak up. But one of them was cool in the end and it was kinda misunderstanding cause he asked me 3 times "who are you?" and I kinda thought that he was a bot. Because of the repetitve response and not answearing to my "who, me?"

Wurm Unlimited has been out long enough that it's pretty clear the comfort zone of the majority of -casual- players want 3x skill action, 3x skill gains. Why not make a server with 3x action/skill gains, make it free to play and after a set amount of time played in game can transfer to the normal servers? Give them the option to transfer early, and give them 200 hours of play time on the free to play. It's not hurting the economy any at this point because there isn't one, and they're mostly going to be playing by themselves, alone... wandering aimlessly so who cares if they got an advantage over others?

The games dead, and we all know it. Doesn't mean people can't want it to get better, or play it. "Waiting years for an Elevation reset" It's already happened, and it didn't solve anything.

The last time a new server was released on the Freedom cluster was Xanadu, in June of 2014. This was roughly a year and a half before the release of Wurm Unlimited. For five years the game has been without a new server. Literally since the time I started playing and interacting with this game, there has never been a new place to play. Anyone who was introduced to the game via Wurm Unlimited has never had the opportunity to join Wurm Online through a new server.

Crossbows, as someone else suggested, with bolts Maybe a new freedom server for pvp-lite (no catapults/trebs, only bashing lockpicking) as a test. By no means something permanent and broken, just to see if there's interest.

Brash you are correct. You also are proof of my point! You play both wo and wu or at least have at some point. Our biggest pool of potential players is wu, which already acts as a new player server of sorts. Its just a matter of determining what are the most popular traits of a wu server, and then replicate something similar to entice those players to come to the more stable, long term, permanent server who offers. skilling to 50 is pretty much 1/8 or 1/10 of skilling to 90. It gives new people ability to forge nice enough tools to not rely on old accounts. I understand why old accounts are upset; But I don't see this as a bad thing.

An idea for a public event in Wurm would be Troll Camps The concept is simple: Similar in nature to a rift, Troll camps would spawn an encampment in an area that meets the requirements. This encampment would have a small area which contains the actual camp, and a multitude of trolls spawned around it with perhaps a troll chieftain of some sort. The camp would generate trolls just as a den does. Once the Chief is defeated and the encampment cleared, the actual camp would produce a chest with rewards. Rewards could vary from simple random quality crude tools or weapons that cannot be imped to small and rare quantities of moon metal lumps, drake leather or pretty much anything. This is a concept I believe would give mid tier players or small groups a chance at some low risk/low reward content. The rewards could be tiered to the difficulty if that's a thing, or simply completely random with high quality/rare items having a lower chance to drop. It also requires very minimal design work, as it can use many of the art, mechanics and enemies already present in the game. Thoughts? Edit: Troll Chieftain could be a normal troll called Troll Chieftain that has slightly higher stats compared to other trolls similar to a Captain is compared to other tower guards. Furthermore, the chest spawned could be nothing more than the actual tent or campsite hut that can only be opened once all the camp mops are defeated. Also thethering the mobs to a specific distance from the map is important as well.

The main death knell I see in your suggestion is exhibited here. Actually the "old" players previous to this change that you propose are the heart of the game and "new" players are just speculative ones that may arrive under this lure. The problem being that you break the game concept of progression for all the "old" players by allowing newer ones this fast tract in characteristics and skill gains, which can then move over to their existing servers. Possibly even worse is the experience of these newer players after the *fix* wears off, meaning that their high is now gone and they are for the first time experiencing the shock of playing the game at 1x1. So not even a good idea for this added reason, which I think is second place to the first I mentioned of more importance. Don't forget also that there are a lot of account sales in this game and your suggestion offers the perfect opportunity for account sales profiteers to skill up accounts with focus on the much more slower skills to rise and then $$. Add to this the additional fast rising of normally slow characteristics and a lot of "new" player accounts will enjoy the profits of being created and "played". Just a bad idea all around which can't be justified by stating that it is good because we need more new players and this might help. Naw... =Ayes=

Thank you for all the information @Xyp. I still can't reproduce it on my end, so I am assuming there is a mod conflict somewhere, something else working on carried weight. I have created a modified version that applies the weight modification in a different way that will hopefully resolve the situation. Download If you could give it a test to verify it works on your end, I can tidy it up any loose ends. Thanks.

Greetings Wurmians! We’re back with another Valrei International, going over what we’ve been up to and have planned, so strap in and call me Susie! Devblog updates After last Valrei International mentioning the changes to development, Product Manager Budda posted a devblog with the changes planned. This means that we can work in better cycles and produce monthly updates reliably. It also means we can work better on showing you what’s coming each month and how it fits in with long term plans. We’re in the process of gearing up for all this, so once the ball gets rolling we’ll begin looking at sharing our plans for the future. Aside from that there will be a whole bunch of QoL updates and fixes. Our aim is to not reduce the amount pushed out each month, but package it into one larger update per month to reduce downtime and give you all more to chew on. Next update The first update under this new cycle is planned for the 30th of May, and will continue to be on the last Thursday of each month. This month will include the distant tree visual improvements showcased in previous editions of Valrei International and on Wurm Wednesday with bloodydrongo a.k.a. Emoo as well as normal and specular mapping on player armours. The update will also touch on a few aspects of the journal, including crediting past legendary creatures slain, colossi built, and guard towers! This means less big building projects, lucky you. Me, on cam! Our official Wurm Online devstreams are in the works! Our planned start date is 10pm (GMT) Saturday the 25th of May. This stream will be an introduction of all of us available (We expect the dev roster to vary depending on availability) but it will be hosted by yours truly, Retrograde! So tune in to us here We're also looking at adding some sweet wurm merch via Streamlabs store, including posters of the ingame maps! It's still in a experimental phase but expect to see it soon. HotA retirement With the introduction of the new HotA battlecamp system, we’ll be disabling the old HotA zone shortly after the update on the 30th. We’re pleased with how the new battlecamp system has gone and feel it creates more roaming oriented play as opposed to centralised focus on the HotA zone. We’ll give more info on the time exactly so anyone who wishes to occupy the current HotA zone can fight for it! Community Content Independence hits 10! It’s a day of big birthdays, with berris posting that the Independence server hits 10 years old on the 17th of June, along with Wurms 13th birthday on the 6th of June. Do we have anything planned? You’ll just have to wait and see… That’s it for us this edition, we’ll be back on the 29th with the Valrei International before the update, but you’ll also see us live before then! Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.

As long as the Trolls will not step a foot out of these "camps" and they do not damage the surrounding environment as Rifts do I see little problems with this. They shouldn't disrupt the current spawning systems either. Probably best to put some kind of time limit on their duration so they don't tie up a location too long for other desired uses. It would also fit the narrative of them just moving onwards in their vagabondish vacant minded trolling ways. =Ayes=

This isn't triggered by someone fleecing your deed, is it? For those who don't know, someone has "recycled" one of Nes's deeds just after it fell, while it isn't breaking game rules, it does break the spirit. Nes did post in forums that he's back (5 or 6 days later) explaining the situation, his friend was holding the deed and he didn't know how much is left in the upkeep. If the person who got the stuff for "safe keeping" would raise their hand, maybe this could have been avoided. He did ask in Freedom chat as well, no response. I didn't get a chance to befriend you but I did use your map a lot and you were a good neighbour while I lived in N/E Exo, I don't want you to leave. Kind Regards. Locath/Kawopij
