The harassment certainly reached the level of needing to place in a support ticket the moment the player created an alternate account so they could bypass the /ignore function placed on their first account by you. I would highly recommend doing /support ingame and explaining the situation to the CM and/or GM that takes the call.

Much of this is not really a 'need' but a 'want'. Not everyone wants to skip ahead and have all the tools on a plate and more than one account right from the start, if ever. You also don't have to start your own deed or have coins in your pocket from day one. There are plenty of other alternatives. With the number of game mechanics Wurm has these days, there is plenty to do without having to think about coins at all. A deed helps, sure, but you don't have to own one to play and enjoy the game. As for rares, those are not limited just to veteran players. Newbies can just as well create a rare/supreme/fantastic and sell it as the rest of us. The game isn't solely about coins, 90ql tools supreme items and raking in cash. Though, some people like to treat Wurm as a personal cash cow, but that's for another topic. Many other MMOs let you skip all of this for an extra cost as well, as you're saying is a requirement in Wurm. Take Eve, if you don't want to spent hours grinding for ISK to buy all the skillbooks/ships you need to get off the ground, or to buy high end stuff, you buy Plex to give yourself a cash boost. In World of Wacraft, there is character boosts. Neither are on the cheap side. Wurm is definitely on the cheaper end, even if you want to skip the grind. There are more popular MMOs out there with far worse grinds and far higher costs to skip it (Archeage being one of those). Very valid point. It's definitely something that is hard to put a value on. There are oldies happily living on 1s/month deeds just fine, but there are others with massive deeds. But, I believe most MMOs have their own unique costs. For Wurm, it's decay. For Eve, it's PvP/alliances. For Warcraft... well you're all good until the next expansion messes it all up for you. For Archeage..... I need not say more. There are plenty of MMOs out there.

Players can "consolidate" any time they choose to. The fact that they spread out over numerous servers should make it clear that they don't want to group up. Your solution then is to remove this choice from them, force them to abandon the server they enjoy, players there they enjoy, deeds built over many years because you think they should be closer to eachother on one server. Then they can choose to continue to play the game or quit. I don't see any positive effect to the game here since all these people that have not moved to one server already obviously don't want to. The fact that there all these server options to live on and travel to are an important draw to attract players to the game. People who come up with these destroy server ideas are very narrow minded to suggest that everyone should be forced into a group setting just because this is how they would prefer to play the game. As long as the game exists this will never happen because those in charge of it will never make a decision to eliminate much of their playerbase needlessly. The whole idea is self defeating if the intent is to provide a variety of choices to attract the broadest range of players. =Ayes=

Wurm isn't overpriced when you look at the core "joining", one prem and a tiny deed. Now add in the cost of alts for whatever 50 reasons the game gives, add in the cost of a REAL deed because a tiny deed will not get a lasting player far, they need space for their animals to not get diseased, space for materials, space for houses, farms, whatever. Add in "muh market" driven costs of items they "need" that they can't make themselves without playing multiple accounts for a year straight first. Consider that the choices are to pay via shop for coins, or treat the game like a job to earn money. Seriously do people that go 'just earn coins ingame' not realize there's a difference between playing a game to pay for it and playing a game to enjoy it? New players aren't going to be making 90ql supreme items to rake in cash, they're going to be stuck doing repetitive manual labor and who on earth sees this as fun and wants to pay a subscription to do it? At the basics an 8e and a silver a month upkeep is cheap, you can either forage quickly once a month to get the silver or pay 10e for 1m/1s prem option. Add just one priest alt and around 10s a month cost for upkeep/other expenses all paid for via shop, 8e now becomes 32e. Not everyone fresh to a game wants to pay that much a month for one game, when 32e/35usd a month can buy you lots of other games. Not everyone wants to spend their time ingame working to pay for it either. Master accounts with prem that applies to more than one account and less of a curve in upkeep pricing can help keep the added up costs "cheap"

Change: Raw, foraged and low quality food will now fill the food bar more based on weight eaten. Players with the newbie food buff will receive an even bigger bonus. Journal Bugfix: Destroy 25 veins via mining has been fixed to include those veins which become depleted instead of destroyed (as when you mine out an ore at a cave entrance and it turns to rock instead of being destroyed.) Journal Bugfix: Restore 250 items from fragments should trigger properly. Journal Bugfix: Old creature skill achievements will be added to the journal for a better baseline for older accounts. Info below: Upon first login after this update, the server will check all old creature slaying achievements and total their count. If the count is higher than the amount required to trigger the journal goal it will set it to that new value. This will not be an exact count of creatures slain as some creatures do not have their own individual achievement for tracking kills, but this will provide a better baseline for older accounts. The post Patch Notes 2/MAY/19 Journal bug fixes and food change appeared first on Wurm Online.

The idea is pretty simple, real life guardian dogs lived with the livestock and were used to guard them against predators, and herding dogs were used to control the herd. What I would like to see in Wurm is a simpler mix of the two, basically, a breed of dog (or any regular dog?) that once tamed could break up pile-ups of livestock on a tile. I.e. there is a large pen with many sheep in it and a tamed sheepdog, 3 sheep end up on the same tile, the dog walks to them and spreads them apart so they don't catch a disease.

If you build a house in a cave, you can use a bed for sleep bonus. A house doesn't actually require floors or a roof, so on a deed you could just build the walls along the naturally existing cave walls.

The game quite literally penalizes you via mechanic for most things. It's not about skipping ahead, it's about the best tools you can make after a week of scrambling around as a noob with no idea how to properly grind or do things being slow as hell because their tools are 10-30ql and our "junk" 70+ql tools make a massive difference in timers and whatnot. Now they have to either spend in their eyes forever and a half grinding multiple skills just to get good tools, or pay money for them because while we can debate needs and wants, using garbage tools gives you a garbage experience and that's not what sells premium. That's not all, now introduce them to the enchants they need to grind their skills without wasting their time, that definitely needs an alt if they don't want to pay for tools/enchants for everything they need. Deeds are pretty much required because a new player isn't going to know all whats up about securing items properly, and they may get their stuff stolen or stomped on by someone that doesn't like the way they looked at their lemon tree which doesn't quite keep people playing. Yes they can join an existing deed, but not everyone wants to and not every group deed affords the needed room to fully experience the game. If someone wants to farm, the game forces you to need a bigger farm because until you get skill, yields are awful and no matter how much you do get, it takes real life days. You need to deed your farm otherwise the game allows someone else to decide if they want to bust down a wall and stomp on your farm. They get to ride horses, the game requires them to get horses with the best traits if they don't want traveling everywhere to go at the pace of snail, but wait, the game seriously enforces a huge breeding herd because of all the breeding penalties that were added to lol combat huge breeding herds. Of course, these horses gotta be deeded, no not because joe the grump decided stomping on your farm wasn't enough, rather because the game penalizes your horses for being off deed. Yes newer players don't need all of this, if we're perfectly ok with making sure newer players don't get to experience the game properly until they start dropping cash into the game, or play for months and months to no longer be a newer player, if they make it that far.

Issue is not price or skill grind , yes a little on the skill grind . But friend asked me last night what I been playing , told him Wurm . Hes reply was the game is boring , there is no content of any real substance . Yes rifts helped some but that's all there's been . Adding more skills is not substance , creature raiding area's , monster towns/camps . Treasure hunting using same setup as archeology , like they say house has good bones just needs meat . This game needs to relax on the pixel crack and add content . I have a years premium and plan to do so again come Sept . because I like the game , but having more people would make it much more fun .

So this suggestion is helping players, developers and GMs alike. Currently no vehicle is bashable. And that causes a bunch of problems. For the journal you need to make a small cart, a large cart, a wagon and a boat. What to do with them once you complete the goal if you already have all you need? NOTHING. You cannot bash them, and vehicles decay REALLY slowly. That is: Stupid, considering it's yours - you should do whatever you want with it unnecesarily adds to the (already large) database of items on each server creating unnecesary clutter bad, WHEN players leave (notice I said when and not if) mayors are left with carts/wagons/boats/... on deed that they cannot move So, this is a two part suggestion here: allow owners to bash their own vehicles (freedom only for example if you feel it's a problem for pvp; idk about pvp ramifications, and code exists to split this exists) allow mayors to bash and/or perm override to become owners of the vehicles of other people that have not logged in a given amount of time (i'd say 3 months, just like merchants and just like sped up decay on homes in the wilderness) Like I said, QoL for players is better control over their items (suggestion 1) and deeds (suggestion 2); QoL improvement for Devs (less pointless, useless calculations of decay for pointless, useless items in the databases) and QoL improvement for GMs and Players (not needing to write tickets about moving vehicles of others parked on or right in front of their deeds - and GMs not having to move stuff all the time) Thor

The "exec" command is available in Wurm Unlimited. I use it on a constant basis, switching between various bindings depending on what I am doing. The Wurmpedia page on Quickswitch hotkeys explains things in details and has some additional samples of how to set up your files. This is very similar to how I have mine set up.

Not half a year. I think closer to two years. However sometimes a lack of concrete answers can indeed lead to concrete actions. Actions like refusing to resub characters and letting deeds disband. For all the discussion here that is often around what can the players do to improve player retention, the reality is that the biggest ownership of this topic rests with the people who control the game, the administration of it and the support of it. If people in a "Community Relations" role are unable or not permitted to give clear answers that keep the community focused in a positive direction then eventually the players take things into their own hands. The more vocal ones speak out (and are often ignored (which in itself is a failure of the community relations role)). The quieter ones, or those who give up, just leave. ~Nappy

No one is asking for clear timelines. In fact that is exactly what we are NOT asking about. Instead we are asking for SOMETHING because its been several months since anything significant has been announced. The priest overhaul was nice, yes, but its been already a quarter since and we don't know whats in the road ahead of us. More than that, the whole Epic community has been on a slope for what? Half a year? More? And yet people who play there has heard nothing but radio silence about it. Regardless I didn't make this thread to ask for an update. I made this thread so we could discuss with staff the way they are censoring the community. Retro made his argument about how they are not, and some players chimed in and then it all got railroaded into game features and when will stuff be done. That's the way the cookie crumbles though and that goes to show is a topic people want to talk about. Spaghetti code or not, it is not the community's problem that coding Wurm is hard. They are offering a service and we are paying for it and so we would love to be assured our money is well spent here instead of elsewhere. That is all.

I'll be honest, unless you have one monster of a deed with either 40+ euros on the upkeep or a massive/artistic design, you won't get 80 euros for this package. Your account has no skills and your assets are nominal at best. With luck you may get 15-20 euros on that account alone (unless its got a year prem on it?). The rest of the assets I can see dont amount for.the rest. Regardless, post pictures and other requested Information! Maybe you'll get a bite. On a side note, I still have a tool or two on my chests I found on my travels with the (Aranea) name. Must have found them on your abandoned deed, so it puts a smile on my face when I hear that name.

No, having any number of clients running with the same graphics settings does not make a difference - client instances are completely separate and don't share any resources. What I always recommend is just running the main client with high settings and the alts with some low ones, and make sure you've got the background FPS limit enabled and set to a low number - that way only the client you're currently playing on is running smoothly, and so they don't fight so much for resources between each other. You should not change any compatibility options for performance reasons. While disabling GLSL may indeed improve the framerate, disabling VBO is never a good idea - the only reason most of the compatibility settings are still there is because of certain machine configurations crashing without disabling it (some very old Intel integrated gpus), not to aid performance.

As far as i remember, the game was always ran by volunteers. In fact, when i started playing it was even smaller than it is now, being developed mostly by Rolf alone. I remember whenever he would go on holidays (at least 2-3 times a year) there would be massive server issues that nobody was able to fix until he came back. The game went "gold" then got "released" with 1.0, then we have WU, yet the dev team has remained and remains pretty much 90% of volunteers. It boggles my mind really, and the excuse of "the developer assigned to X can't work on it because he has no time" has to stop. Start employing full timers, or at the very least, better volunteers that actually have time to work on stuff. If what the above person said is true, that you don't even reply to people who apply to your team, then it is even worse than i thought. Surely such a small company and a relatively unknown game that is Wurm doesn't get hundreds of applications a day or a week that you get so overwhelmed by them?

I agree with you here (especially about concrete). Yet, the OP's suggestion about the ability to *create* marsh is a good one because then it would be a choice to do so. At the same time the ability of Marsh to spread should be Removed! This is a just "compromise" for the ability to create Marsh. Give something, take something away at the same time Dev approach. =Ayes=

Based on the extended downtime (and the end of the month) I suspect the server has shutdown. I would like to thank @Milo for hosting the server. I enjoyed my time on the server. I was surprised to find myself playing on what was initially a 1.3x skill gain server in WU and the initial challenge of starting with very limited stuff, a random spawn and very nasty mobs got me back into playing Wurm. The map was very unique and well designed. Without a doubt it was my absolute favorite feature of the server. I only wish I had captured a few more screen shots so others could see the incredible map that you handmade. Thanks again. ~Nappy

  29. 1 point
This is a great idea, but it wouldn't begin to address the creature pathing issues we're having, like spiders and other creatures climbing up mountains where you cannot reach them. *Edit* the more I think about it, the easier this is to implement. Whatever code causes sheep and cows to scatter like roaches when a player walks near.... apply the same code to dogs, BLACK sheep and maybe bulls.

There has been a growing trend over the years with the wurm staff it seems a bad one less and less information is given out everyone is being more vague people constantly using the excuse of "we are but a small team we cant get things done on time" yet you turn away potentially good developers you dont give people the chance to proof what they say they are worth The staff team itself is getting more and more intertwined instead of having clear roles being assigned This might be harsh but a project managers job is to make sure that projects that are ongoing get done in time and if that deadline isnt reached figure out why that deadline isnt reached and find a solution to it so who ever is in that position needs to put their foot down and get that straightened out as any project small or large short or long term needs a good manager to keep the ball rolling The team promised transparency after the community got angry from the way certain things where handled and soon after we get a lost and attitude of "we wont share info as it might make us look bad" it already is making you look bad the frustration with players is rising People are leaving due to any number of reasons but 2 big ones is lack of knowledge of the way forward(when is new content being added what type of things might we see in the coming year(not when but what)) and the good old "wurm is dead we are just enjoying its rotting casket" which is something that gets brought up by a lot of long time players who have seen and been there for its decline We dont expect 100% perfection from you guys what we want is a loose road map(no dates just possible ideas) with nothing set in stone we want to see that the money we pay in subscription cost goes towards development and not just 10% server cost and 90% lost We would love to see the public relations people bring the "social media" vibe to well social media no sticking to just twitch but spread to youtube to twitter to facebook create content share user created places(deed of the month for example) bring life to wurm's social media accounts and the playerbase will grow(without a single penny of investment into ads) There are so many small things that we the players see that make us want to pull our hair out that the team just seems oblivious to and its sad like the devlog example of "oh go help this person on the test server then if you want to know what goes onto there" well how about it is actually made player testing friendly so that no gm input is required as suggested there 8 hours of waiting for a gm to respond is no good Or maybe the bashing on the game that people in positions of power do on other platforms when new players are showing interest(be it joking or not) it has to stop a first impression is everything and social media is the way to go so when your little bit of effort to be on social media involves bashing your own game there is something wrong We dont want this game to die it is one of a kind and honestly if a game came around that had the features wurm did without the restrictions that other games put in(life is feudal's skill system prime example) this game would bleed to death in no time and we say this every time a game similar to wurm comes out and it keeps happening players leave but never enough in 1 go to make a serious dent But really we want this game to thrive and grow not shrink and die and right now the staff seem to be sticking to what appears to be set in stone the old way of doing things the way they once where 10 years ago and so on and well honestly that doesnt work anymore these days In the age of instant gratification and social media being the way to grow your image( "A single decent looking girl can reach a following of 1 million+ people if she plays her cards right why cant you?" quote comes to mind) and companies being burned at the stake for ###### reasons(Lies/micro transactions/unfinished games/bugs/on purpose nerfs to sell mtx and so on and on) why not learn from their lessons and be more open make a list of content that is being worked on and a list of possible upcoming content and make it clear none of it is set in stone and no release dates will be given Just give more information be more open share more details and let the community help you to become better and grow more we want to help you guys we know you are struggling and trying to figure things out and screwing up along the way but we still stand by you even when you annoy us to no end we still want to watch you guys grow to become more so let us help you take in our advice talk to us discuss things with us accept our help when someone comes along who can help out on a certain area Dont shut us out like you guys seem to love doing from time to time accept us instead we are what makes you be able to do what you do so use us and our knowledge and experience and excitement and thrive to make sure that you can do a better job then without us

my only question is: you've been kind of leading us along for some time now with changes to epic as a possibility ( I don't mean this in a negative way, its just a fact) and is the new "system of not telling anything coming forward" going to just, keep delaying the delay recently I asked in discord if we're EVER going to get any information on it, and you responded as soon as the movement code is fixed you're going to be giving us some information on it (loose quote) so, what gives. do we play there? do we prep stuff there? is it worth building anything? is it worth playing there at all? epic is a place with a lot of history for quite a few of us that still play this game and we wonder where our home is going, or isn't. I really want to be able to play both clusters seamlessly, why isn't there some sort of way to allow for proper ratio of skill/stat gain to be translated into freedom skills thanks
  35. 1 point
As stated in the OP part of the reason for these changes is to better have time before a release to give out information and testing periods for appropriate changes. There are a fair amount of things currently in the works, and there is a longer list that we're planning on for the near future, and an even longer list for what to do after that. Giving out all of those plans and ideas at such an early stage does nothing good in my opinion, we have years and years of instances we can reference back on where an idea or plan was shared well before it had been started in any meaningful way, and many of those instances lead to that project being delayed or outright dropped as other things popped up/took precedence - and that always leads to a ton of threads and questions about when X or Y is due because we announced it a year ago. Plans change a lot and our team is _very_ small. A project may be started and not touched again for 6 months due to the person working on it not having sufficient time for it, or abandoned outright until years later when someone else feels they can do it justice. I would much rather announce what is coming when I can for sure say that it is coming in a reasonable timeframe instead of more promises of Soon™. This isn't a matter of "no information until two weeks beforehand", but more of "I don't want to promise this new thing when I haven't even started on it yet." Echoing Retro, everything already goes through the test server. We have the immeasurably awesome Alectrys on there most days testing what is coming and confirming they work as intended, but as with anything sometimes things can slip through the gaps. We'll still be going forward with the public testing scenarios that we have in the past for larger changes and mechanic additions as that tends to do a lot for the stability of such large changes, but for 95% of the changes and updates we add Alectrys' testing is sufficient enough to the point where a couple of people who see a new set of upcoming notes and decide to test the one thing they're interested in isn't really going to add anything that we don't already have. That being said, I'm sure Alectrys would love the help of any dedicated people that are interested in helping out on the regular.

I fully agree. Wurm is not overpriced for what it is, and never has been. You can already pay premium with ingame currency without spending real money. You can also play the game however long you want to for free. Then there is also Unlimited that is one time buy, and you can get it for less than 10 dollars from deals and bundles if you know where to look. The whole "wurm is a niche game, advertising won't work" is just plain stupid. Even a temporarily player boost is good for the game. And how do you know that every single person who tries this game won't stay? If 10 people out of 100 stays for longer than a month, then it's already working.

Any chance we could get a roadmap? While the internal changed to the development cycle will surely help deliver cleaner content, we still don't know if anyone reads the suggestions sections of the forum. There are a lot of suggestions there supported by vast majority of the community but, since the beginning of time, those are not responded to by the staff. While i understand that devs can't spend all their time replying to those, it would be nice to know what is in the works and in what order is it planned to be implemented. Not to sound ignorant, for years the impression is that there is no plan at all and things are implemented ad-hoc (headbob?). There were a lot of amazing updates over the last few years but very few of them were something players actually asked for. I know we get the snippets and previews in Valrei International but they usually let us know about things nearly finished and a short time before they are live. Current theme seems like there is no actual roadmap or a plan of any kind but it's more of "let's wing it" which i hope is just a false impression.

I knew this anecdote will crop up in this, because it always does, and it's always bad. You were either the mayor of that deed and no one could have jsut bashed your wagon away, nor would anyone bother to even if off-deed bashing of other people's carts was possible, which isn't even part of the OP. Or you logged off as a villager and left your junk in someone's backyard for several months, in which case you have no right to expect it to still be there. There's more forever abandoned trash than things someone may return to. To maintain this status quo because you're too lazy to construct a single item is quite frankly unreasonable. +1 to the OP without caveats. I think it's perfectly fine this way.
