We’re back with another Valrei International, showing you all what’s been going on behind the scenes of the world of Wurm, so let’s get into it, ya ken? spec(tac)ular metals One thing coming in today's update is the addition of specular and normal maps to metal weapons, tools, and parts of transport and furniture! It adds further depth and realism to these surfaces, just check it out! I personally can't wait to see these after the update, I'm so keen! Journal Tweaks We’ve been making some tweaks to some journal goals and clearing up some others in today's update. We’re also introducing a progress percentage display, so you can keep track of those big ones! Tapdance deconstruction Tapdance is a horrible mess of construction, whats happened? Team Shark has happened, with the tapdance redesign firmly under way. VEN member Fabricant will be streaming this process as he goes, expect disaster of hilarious proportions. WU Beta That’s right, after 180+ days of waiting, Wurm Unlimited is getting brought up to speed with Wurm Online! It’s a big beta with a ton of behind the scenes changes, so the beta will be fairly long, between 2-4 weeks. We’ll also be pushing an update to the beta some time during this with some WU specific fixes as well as including the update due out today. Ongoing AWS work Keenan is still hard at work with the foundations of shifting to AWS, looking at dockers and uh, honestly, half of it goes over my head, but you can catch it all here as he keeps updating it! Whether you can follow it, or like me you smile and nod as Keenan excitedly tells you what big things it means, I hope you enjoy these type of devblogs, and I certainly will be encouraging more in the future! Crusaders artwork Last week we posted an announcement regarding the copyright issues we unfortunately faced regarding The Crusaders PMK designs. I’m super thrilled to say that they not only have replacements, but they have opened it up to public voting! There’s some amazing designs on offer, and they want to know your opinion. Not only that, but one lucky voter will win a set of the winning design! Hota rework We’re gearing up for the HotA rework to go live in a coming update (not today's) . For the initial release it will run alongside the existing HotA system. From there we’ll work with feedback and tweak if necessary to ensure it’s engaging and achievable.     New: You are now able to light furnaces if you are lacking a steel and flint with a kindling and a hot burnable item, both of which will be consumed. If you happened to throw away or lose your steel and flint, you can now use hot burning items (wooden tools, wooden scraps, logs, cotton, cloth) along with a kindling to light a forge or oven. Note that the item must be ‘burning’ and will be consumed when lighting the furnace. Reminder: You can create a campfire using just a wood scrap and a kindling in order to get your burning wood or cloth items hot enough to light the furnace. New: Added title for 100 pickaxe. Priest Change: Rite of Death is now able to be cast on Freedom servers but is a laundered version of the PvP ritual spell. Rite of Death on Freedom servers will not create mycelium and will not cause head wounds, but will give the sleep bonus and skill bonus. Priest Change: Updated the warning when using /transfer for the one time deity change to emphasize the WL/BL and pvp kingdom issues. Warning: Converting to a deity on Freedom then travelling to a Chaos kingdom that does not align with your deity you will lose all faith and abilities granted, and you will stop following that deity. Libila does not align with WL kingdoms and Fo/Vynora/Magranon do not align with BL kingdoms. Journal Change: A percentage indicator was added to some Journal entries which have multiple things required. Journal Change: Casting a global spell achievement is now awarded to the caster as well as those linked to the caster. Bugfix: Reworded the mouseover for Chop Down Some Trees journal entry to make it more clear that the action must result in a felled tree. Bugfix: Fixed a number of movement issues. Bugfix: Changed the calculation method for the antigank CR bonus to smooth out the number and prevent it from jumping around so much. ART: Fixed winter texture for all ages of bushes. ART: Fixed the issue of some trees and bushes not being visible in certain seasons with the setting of pretty trees turned off. ART: Infected and enchanted trees should no longer show fruit. ART: Added normal and specular maps to weapons, shields, most tools, transports and a variety of other metal items Bugfix: Fixed the issue where small animated items could be barely seen when using the place option. Bugfix: Fruit graphics have been removed from enchanted and infected trees as they cannot be harvested.     When we sacrifice rares, we get full food/water. This mechanic was around since before the time CCFP. But when the gods are pleased with our offerings, do they not wish to nourish their followers, body and soul? I humbly request that sacrificing rare items now fulfill nutrition and CCFP fully as well. Please make it work as the gods intended.

    Hello everyone, as many of you know, The Crusaders have had to replace their artwork due to a copyright claim, as explained in the PSA below posted a little over a week ago: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/168873-wsa-crusader-kingdom-graphics/ In light of this, The Crusaders have decided to host a public community-wide poll on our PMK artwork. Since a large amount of the Wurm player-base has purchased and/or acquired our kingdom merchandise, we thought it was only fair that everyone would have a say in what direction our artwork will head. Below are four different options that, after meticulous designing and revisioning, The Crusaders have decided to post up for public vote. Each design was placed into Wurm Unlimited in an attempt to give a fair representation of what the final outcome would be in-game. The Military Tent and Tabard has yet to be designed, but one will be created in similar style to the winning Kingdom Set. I hope you all are just as excited to vote on the artwork as we are! One of each Kingdom Item will be given out to a voter at random, so be sure to vote in the poll above! Below are the choices: Kingdom Set #1 Kingdom Set #2 Kingdom Set #3 Kingdom Set #4 We are also giving the chance to vote on a mix.     Horse movement got a bit broken after the update. Going up or down high slope freezes the game and horses look like they are having a teleporting seizure...

    No. In all fairness, however, the developers seem eager to change the game for the better. I just don't get the impression they truly understand the long-term consequences of what they reward (and punish). This particular case is especially discouraging, because it does seem so obvious.

    The Marble Monstrosity NEEDS that tall banner in #1. I seldom shell out silvers for cosmetics, but I can see myself doing for that tall banner. I like the clean lines of it.

    A nice move to put up the designs for a community vote. For me all four designs are somewhat too busy and ....well hard to find it in English what I want to express... the designs are a bit too soft and peaceful to fit on a blood soaked battlefield. I would say #2, but optimally with less vines and ornaments. I would also love to see the tent design too..

    #4 for it's crips clean lines looking good close up and far. I like the reverse exposure work on #3 and #4 I would like to see what #4 looks like with the red thinner vine of #2 through it as a red continuity but fine lined so it has sublty. Though I have chagrin regarding the necessity of this, The offerings put forth are very nice and It very thoughtful and generous that you allow the wurm general public to participate in the design of your personal pmk. It gives all ownership in it done in a community way. Thank you, Crusader class there.

    WO is a very niche game for people who understand the value of earning your achievements. Apart from that, it's the best terraforming game out there.

    Wanted to let Deli folks know that I am working on this Canal. I hope to get it fancied up enough to apply for heritage status. I have opened either entrances up at 3 wide. A lot of work to be done still. The entrances fancied up, a cart access put in on the north in case a highway wants to be hooked up later.     As a unique feature be nice to see that on the birthday every year of the toon creation in your mailbox your toon received a birthday present of some type of unique gift and as the toon ages the presents get better

    I like the tall banner in the first set the most. I appreciate the simplicity and can actually see using it on my deed. The others look busy. I wish you could take the cross off the face of the rose and make it the background with the rose as an overlay. 3 and 4 are interesting, but a bit busy imho.

    sorry for the late reply i don't lurk anymore and have moved to Exo. (Trinsic is 2 years secure). received your pm and exchanged words in-game. Unfortunately the bridge that goes up the mountain from Fabled Halls is only 1 tile wide. This is the road that leads to the mountaintop route. Once past the bridge it's perfectly possible to make a 2 wide highway with a little surface mining here and there. Which i'd gladly do. I have the required perms for Fabled Halls and Fablecrafter will enjoy the prospect of a highway link over the mountain. I'm not sure if the route is clear it's been a year since i was up there. I will check. I'll also check as to whether it's possible to widen the mountain-pass bridge. (i wish it could be done without knocking the entire thing down) The canal's east entrance is rockface and sea, one of the 2 bevelled roads can connect to the canal on the east side, this highway as you've suggested tobe directly connected to hale ohana. the over the mountain road i created a year or so ago, should be easy to upgrade into a 2-wide networked highway. this road will meet up with the chosen bevelled route on its way to Ohana. We could make a highway from fabled halls (low altitude entrance) to the west entrance of the canal (sloppy hollow side), this would connect the canal to the highway (there is a networked highway to the halls, despite it being missing from the map) but i need to check the angle of approach, the topography looks a bit daunting. alternatively we can network the already existing unused highway that i've highlighted in the below image. This seems the most rational course of action. (unless we link it instead from the highway corner i've marked to the bottom left, there is a bridge going across the water to its east, dealers choice) The yellowed route to the east is an already networked highway to fabled halls that the map is missing. This bluntly yellowed highlight could be connected to the west side of the canal entrance but it's probably better if we used the bevelled route (or other) with a waystone where it meets the highway. As promised i'll have a proper look in person over the next couple of days, see you when you're back. For those that have lived here for some time, Fabled Halls is where Bacchus Vineyard used to be, the mine is now through expense, vision, commitment and love, a dwarf's palace and open for tourism. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <edit> - the bridge can be widened but it'll have to be the last thing we do because i haven't the mats. 1 week of surface mining will yield a two wide highway up the mountain instead of the 1 wide that it is at the moment.     I have to say this is a turn for the best. I am not a fan of what happened to TC but in the end I have to admit it may have been for the better. The old design was a bit bland and I never really liked it, but these four pushed forward are quite amazing. My preference is #3 and it seems its also the winning one. Great job there guys. Looks amazing!

    +1 Finally I can get my 2 cents on it out Didn't want to steal your thunder or derail the other thread though, hence I asked for a new thread. It sounds like any report will work for any skill? S ounds a tad wogic-y; when it's free for all I'd use my 99 carp to boost some of my lower skills, which doesn't seem right. Why not give a "weaponsmith report" for dismantling a weapon, where the report itself takes damage rather than the whole book? I am not sure how the Soulstealer exactly works, but I'd have the reports/manuals take a flat amount of damage, setting their uses to X amounts. With limiting uses via damage, QL could be used for more interesting effects. For instance, if the skill gain boost was multiplied with (report QL/own skill) (perhaps plugged into a function to balance this for very high QL reports on very low levels and vice versa), it would -encourage making the best item you can before dismantling it, while discouraging just spamming low QL items to get as many reports as possible. -enable high levelled artisans to sell reports or give them to apprentices. It would at least be some indirect form of mentoring, which was also an interesting idea that came up before but may be more complicated to implement and less worth the effort due to the relatively low player density, at least in Freedom. If it's not too much, I'd also propose [report QL = min(paper QL, item QL, player skill))], since that's a good opportunity to give some use to papyrusmaking and its products. Archaeology already profits of better paper but I see no reason to stop there.

    dump all favor of the char it's useless for followers anyway.. and allow /invitations to allow sharing of 'visions', so other could have fun when you see a rng colored dragon or w/e other random things you see... you weirdos.. #I'm a pon dun judge me +1 for the sharing idea tho, probably best to be allowed only after acceptance for the vision sharing..

    Why not just any group of insanity path members would begin to mass hallucinate. so if 100 people were in local, 20 were PoI, there would be 20 people experiencing a very different event than the rest of us! exciting. +1 I don't have path of insanity because my reasons, i'm down for hallucinations but man that'd bother me if my choice was taken away. p.s.: I like that suggestion that hallucinations should follow you around. i didn't read the thread, just the url. I immediately thought of Donnie Darko!

    Apologies for the mess and for the fact I had to log off straight after the slay. I can see why he was left in the centre of the tundra for so long now undetected. I am glad you have it fixed up, I appreciate how tundras, and pockets of natural beauty are important to its locals. If you need any transmutation liquid for the remaining missing tundras let me know. I will mail it over with no fee. I have seen the loss of tundras on other servers with certain people campaigning for its removal. The sole reason apparently being that of things not spawning on it and instructing their minions to destroy it. Very sad indeed, anything I can do now I am back in-game from a crisis in RL, do let me know. Ps . Thank you to all who attended, supported and had patience for the public slaying, and best of luck to Bipolar in his hunting endeavours for more uniques. There is a great hunter in all of us.

    +1, i have always wondered, why ballista is a thing because its useless i once tried to hit a player when he breach thru a door and i had a ballista aimed to that door and i was so excited that the dude doesnt expect what is gonna hit him! And i thought to my self, easy kill... oh boy how wrong i was. Ballista did next to nothing dmg and it is clumsy to use. I guess thats wogic... getting hit by massive ballista arrow and even a chicken can slap you harder. lol

    For full transparency, does that mean a player basically blackmailed CCAB, having the company held hostage under remove the graphics or risk being sued, all over petty ingame differences? I'm not picking sides here as I don't have interest in either side and this is beyond sides, but this is quite a new low. Do these threats get handled by CCAB the same way chargebacks get handled by CCAB? It seems pretty damaging to the game and community for one player to have this much power over the company's direction and decisions.

    It is overly complicated and probably serves well to pander to some people that would enjoy it, imping their reels and hooks and sinkers and going out with a tacklebox. What I can't understand is why the old method was completely removed. You don't always need hundreds of dollars worth of competition equipment to fish. Sometimes just a stick with a line and a hook does the job just fine. Not everyone is an enthusiast fisherman, some people are just trying to survive.
