As the Newspring starter deed is nearly finished i would like to thank the fellow builders and friends that helped during along the way, especially Alen for heavy digging and setting up buildings and things everywhere, Baloo for creating decorations and vigorously attaching bricks and planks, and Bipolar for carving the most amazing rooms underground (before i would set my pick to ruin all symmetry and elegance with a wild seal cave). I also want to point out Ele and Captain as amazing plank-setting team, Shy for bringing the fastest shovel, Zoranah for sending her priest to set up the rope bridges and the Newspring Alliance as whole for general support. Many thanks also to Retro and Enki for providing things and being most helpful to interesting problems. It was a pleasure to work with you on this. Please check the list of builders and pm in case i forgot someone, before i am writing them on a sign somewhere on deed and declare the thing done! Many of the traits that are passed on through breeding seem to revolve around horses. I have a few suggestions for traits for not horses. Wooly - Sheep: chance at producing +1 wool when sheared Silky - Sheep: produces higher quality wool when sheared Productive - Sheep, Cows, Bison: ready to be milked again sooner Fertile - Cows, Sheep: Chance to produce twins Strong body - Cows, Sheep, Bison, Pigs: Produces +1 meat when butchered Negative traits (Can be removed with Genesis): Unproductive - Sheep, Cows, Bison: Take longer to be ready for milking again Bristly - Sheep: produces lower quality wool when sheared Bald Patches - Sheep: Takes twice as long between shearing Barren - Sheep, Cows, Bison: Doesn't produce milk

With the increase in Independence lag again we will be moving the Independence back to the backup hardware tomorrow, the 5th of March, 2019 at approximately 2pm server time (UTC+1). This will mean another 1-2 hour time frame as we move everything and set all servers up to communicate with the server again. After this Independence is intended to remain on the backup hardware until the move to AWS is performed, but may change depending on time frames The post W.S.A. Extended downtime – Independence lag appeared first on Wurm Online.

Not 1 iron more. No decay on deeds is part of the benefits that they provide and are paid for with deed upkeep. Any further reduction of overlooked or not bothered to deal with deed decay issues should be resolved as being already part of the deal. This has actually been the process over the years as gradually more items on deeds have become included in the *no on deed decay* family. A poll question such as this just shows a lack of knowledge and experience in the long history of the evolution of the game. =Ayes=

With a great amount of hard work from friends and allies, I would like to bring to your viewing pleasure (hopefully), the new Tap Dance Market. I realize that most trading is done via the Trade Chat or Market threads here on the forums; however, for those who care, a complete overhaul of Tap Dance Market has just been finished. Marble ramparts that can be climbed and are fully walkable. There are more market stalls then will ever be needed. Parking lawns with enchanted grass for animals. An 11 tile Archery range to accommodate all bow types. A small, basic, arena filled with slopes and sand. Two gazebo buildings to get out of the sun or to hold events in. Spacious Tavern with seating and five rooms for overnight stays. Highway extended to center of deed and all entrances are widened for travel. Large Cathedral aptly named the Celebration Hall. This Hall is not simply a church to hold sermons, but it doubles as a workshop fully stocked with forges and ovens. Point was made here to create not just a market again, but a gathering place for people. Celebration has amazing people and not enough events. Whether it's ever used, that's up to you - Image Album - Thanks go to my entire alliance. Could not have pulled this off without each and everyone of them. Jennyr, Branek, Lumi, Sweetsusie, Jonydowy, Atheline, Job, and Orlin. I want to also thank Pinkfloyd for logs and Waarokku for the chats and materials. Celebration has an amazing crowd of people.

Definitely not, and I would be sad to see wurm taking even more such direction. It already is far. There are already huge incentives to do everything on deeds, and the less you can in the world. I already have a deed on almost every server (as mayor or citizen) because branding has become too powerful; I already ignore most of the time the public offdeed inns or safe-houses, because you can't repair them anyway anymore. So there's probably less of them for who needs them, which means harder to play for newer players if they don't stay on their deed almost all time. I prefer to play a sandbox in the world, not just in a deed. Any idea that would entice even more to 'freeze' the world and limit it to a deed has a big -1 from me. Otherwise we can make everything decay free in WU and chat on Steam. ?

For full transparency, does that mean a player basically blackmailed CCAB, having the company held hostage under remove the graphics or risk being sued, all over petty ingame differences? I'm not picking sides here as I don't have interest in either side and this is beyond sides, but this is quite a new low. Do these threats get handled by CCAB the same way chargebacks get handled by CCAB? It seems pretty damaging to the game and community for one player to have this much power over the company's direction and decisions.

Beautiful post I also know of people who struggle with other limitations like illness or disability, yet find freedom and escape in Wurm on the back or a horse riding the big open grass fields (or being the champion at a rift or standing alone on the top of a high mountain peak.) Wurm Online gives everyone the chance to create their dreams.

2 weeks ago I deeded the little lagoon area in the hopes of making a cool home in the mountain side. In doing this it left me with very little outdoor land to have grass tiles. It would be super useful to have a Feed Trough to put in the cave to keep my horses in there. I figure the Trough could work like a Chicken Coop. Where you put food and water in it (Of course you wouldn't be able to put horses or other big animals in it). Then for each 10ql the trough is, it gets a 1 tile radius for animals to feed from it. Example: 10ql - 1 tile Radius 20ql - 2 tile radius etc etc... The max you would get would be 100ql - 10 tile radius. Then you can further it by giving rare an additional +1, Supreme +2, and Fantastic +3. Meaning the theoretical max would be 13 tile radius. (All these numbers are just for an example) This would make it less difficult for players to keep and feed animals underground.

This is quite depressing news. I myself did not have the opportunity to know Seleas, but you have my sincere condolences. As for some kind of memorial garden for the passing of our members, please contact Retrograde and discuss it with him and we will work on a way to memorialize our fallen brothers and sisters.

I know of a few players who are/were farmers or own land,as a previous owner of 15 acres it's funny i actually built a 300m long packed dirt/clay driveway using a vehicle and shovel. Now me and my wife just updated(deeded) to 1700 acres with cattle and sheep i will still play wurm that will not effect my feeling for this great game, there is some great friendships i have made and some i myself have broken to my detriment but i love wurm and the people that i have encountered and passed along the way these past almost 6 years (late 2013) .

Yes, CLUB Market ~Crystal Lake's Utmost Buys~ has been quite busy. We're working on ways to increase bulk sales, which to my knowledge we are the only market offering self service bulk goods and large items. Works the same way self-service animal sales works. We have no merchant space open.

For all of those who have any items from crusader rest assured we will be working on a new design and will work with the community on it so it’s tailored to the popular appeal. As for the decision I will be going public with all the information screenshots and such. This was super poorly handled and ruled. I will expose every details in this case. For those that care the player who made the designs originally is a memeber of a opposing kingodm today to TC which is why this happened. It was a cheap blow to cause damage and unfortunately it bleed over to freedom. For that I am sorry. However know that all details will be posted for the public to know.

Are you a scientist or just believe what crazy people type? It's helpful to think for yourself, world isn't perfect insects and animals die out, it happens. Human race is not perfect, we learn and attempt to make things right. Reading fear and doubt facebook posts like that is extremely unhealthy for the mind and just spreads the fear to other uneducated minds. I dabble in Eco stuff, it's not great but it's not extinction level or even close to that currently.

What world do you live on? Come to England, we have like 50 cities and a few towns, the rest is fields and rural areas. There is a lot of brainwashing on the internet and tv, especially by the Americans. The co2 was like 10 times higher in prehistoric times and everything flourished, oxygen is the poison. Why not leave your city and take a look around.

Tamat posted something similar with some additional ideas: I really love the idea of each player memorial getting some number of tiles with which players can drop expressions of love and remembrance. No pickup perms, just drop.

I just learned of yet another of our small yet beloved player base passing away irl. Please devs, consider a memorial garden area, something the community can have and pay our respects at. This would be one of the most touching and personal reach-out works to the community we could ever have in my opinion. Thanks for the consideration.

I'm extremely proud to announce the grand opening of Xanadu's newest -- and undoubtedly best -- canal. The Fraggle Rock Canal is now complete, after no fewer than 100 days of tireless work by a small posse of dedicated Wurmians. Here's a map of where it is. Fraggle Rock Canal removes literally HOURS of travel time from central Xanadu to the east and south coasts and server borders. From the center of the Xanadu map, on Pumpkin Lake, you can get to the east server border in under one hour, with good winds. From the center of the tunnel, it's 30 minutes. It's an "ALL BOATS" tunnel. The canal is deep enough to accommodate the largest of ships, and the ceiling is high enough that you shouldn't find your head lost in the ceiling. There's a two-tile, paved highway running for the entire length, ready and waiting to be catseyed and added to the Xan highway system. There are lamps every 10 tiles to light your way. It should go without saying that there are no veins blocking your path, and whole thing is fully strongwalled/supported from beginning to end. So, no ceiling collapses to upset your journey! We're hoping the GMs will deign to give us "Heritage" status. But you never know with those guys. They may decide to collapse the whole thing for kicks instead. From the western edge, you want to be looking for this bridge (Fraggle Rock Tunnel): At the eastern edge, look for this: Inside, this is what you should expect: So who built this wonderful *cough*Heritage*cough site? The original route was mined out four years ago -- by these people -- but apparently never completed before the builders buggered off to a different server. It was a great route, but not ready for any type of boat, or even a wagon. On July 7 this year, EnlightenedOne proposed the idea of making it into a proper canal tunnel. Sadly, he never followed through by actually doing anything, but he did inspire several of us to finish the job left to us by our ancestors. Notably, Thorinoakshield and Wulfmaer acted as de facto project leads. On a project of this scale and complexity, you need people who know what they're doing, and these guys do exactly know what they're doing. These dudes are the reason this monster of a job only took 100 days and not 200. They also knocked the crap out of countless rock tiles and metal veins, added supports, lamps... goodness knows what else! Other than myself and my alt, the following people (in no particular order) contributed more hours to this job than it is reasonable to ask of a person to contribute: Zethereal, Harthim and Frederick -- relentless, relentless miners. Seriously, you should have seen these guys bashing away at the stubbornest 20ql iron veins with no regards for their own personal enrichment. That takes love and dedication, and we salute them for it! Snowtech -- not only did he mine out a goodly chunk of the canal and tunnel, he also donated a bunch of high-end picks to the cause. Brilliant! Knocked off at least two seconds per action for me. Astlyr and Ironmaiden -- weird, vegan, hippy priests with an insatiable appetite for chopped vegetables and a penchant for casting strongwall spells. They're at least half of the reason the roof isn't going to fall in on your head on your way to the east coast. Kiss their feet and worship them. Most of the gang met up today to knock the last 100 ores out of the last iron vein. Thorin posted some pics in his thread and I recorded the moment for posterity with an animated GIF.

The circumstances of my life and the global, environmental, and political climate of the world pushed my subconscious to desire to (again) seek out the safety of Wurm's mantle. I live in a dank metropolis and can't currently move due to financial and health issues. I yearn to run through open, unrestricted, unpolluted fields (good luck being able to do that in our world), to encounter mystery and surprises, to travel. I want to live in a rural area and have a cozy tiny house, off grid, with a lush backyard and a chicken coop. Yes, that is one of my main dreams. Wurm offers this to me. It may be just "Java", but you, Wurm, give me serenity and beauty, my own crops, animals to care for, seas to cross. All of us here are seeking something, and there is no shame in any of it. Some of us are quite addicted, and addiction comes from some deep place, and I honor it. I honor it in you. How many of us here seek respite in an isolated deed and do not care to interact? No shame. I honor all of it. How many just want someone to chat with about stupid things while entertaining their DNA's yearning for "hunting and gathering"? It's all honorable. Some of us may be in a good place behind the screen. Others may not be. We're all here in this moment in time, and I like to pause and marvel at it. In my heart, I don't feel that we'll always have the internet (where the world is going and etc). But that we got together in this alternate universe and created and communicated with one another using something akin to telepathy - is nothing short of a wonder. Poignant post? I have that touch, I guess. May our Wurm remain green, its seas alive, its bounty available to everyone regardless of income, its kings and queens loyal to their subordinates, and its Impalongs plentiful. <3 Thank you Wurm Online <3

Lantern: [11:40:49] A small iron box with wicker and a cannister for oil. Candle: [11:46:18] A candle made from tallow repeatedly dipped around a cloth wicker. Metal torch: [11:49:39] A finely bent metal sheet that will hold some oil and a wicker. In all cases, the word should be wick, not wicker. (Wick is the cotton string you light, wicker is the woven wood furniture.) Also, it's canister, with one n, unless that is a Uk vs US spelling issue.

No matter of all the pros and cons of clouds and physical machines, I love how technical details are discussed here. Finally this forum is becoming a place where you can share your knowledge and learn new things. AWESOME! Another thought we already discussed once for a short moment is that Wurm could really benefit from working with docker containers, which would make Wurm even more cloud friendly at the same time. Having a great way to install MySQL or MariaDB database in the container, get some scripts which will automatically configure DB access when docker container is installed, add a webserver and other helpful things the server needs inside the container. This would make it possible to take any server which runs docker and just start a server on it within seconds. Would be not just a big benefit for WO but especially WU players who want to host a server and do not know much about the technical details behin could have an improved experience. Small warning, do not host a Wurm server on a system which has IO times below an SSD. Wurm doesn't need much IOPS but it needs very fast IO operations, since it is single threaded and as we analysed IO delays are the main cause for lag. Nowadays you should get about 3000MByte/s reads and 1000MByte/s writes which is what NVMe SSDs can give you. Plus the seek time of NVMe SSDs is around 0.02ms which is also at a factor of 10 faster than SSD seek times. So if you want to really improve the situation of hosting, choose a platform which comes close to those speeds and also take into account that this solution should be able to take it up with the next years of new technology. That's the speed at Sequential (Block Size=128KiB) Reads/Writes with multi Queues & Threads on my newest NVMe SSD. It is a beast, you never saw a Wurm server running that smooth.

These types of comparisons are apples to oranges. With WoW, you need multiple characters as your profession and class limited. Wurm doesn't have that, with the exception of priesthood which is more a character class trade-off than a profession restriction. In WoW, those multiple characters are intended to make up the experience as a whole that accomplished in one Wurm character. You can't play those multiple characters at one time from the same account. If you wish to multibox, you need several accounts. And with that, you also have a higher monthly cost for WoW. WoW = Multiple characters, higher monthly premium, character class limitation, profession limitation Wurm = Single character, lower monthly premium, priest or not priest, no other class limitation or profession limitation

If I could pay 80 euros and never pay for premium, but only be limited to 90 for all of my skills, I'd do it in a heartbeat. The problem is that money needs to come in over the long-run and not short term. If everyone bought that, wurm would lose one of its major sources of income because almost nobody would premium an account. Doing this is similar to the suggestion of making Wurm Unlimited Free to Play because it would increase the player base. Who cares if the player base increases if cash flow stops?
  36. 1 point
I think that's actually a sound argument, Wurm could stand to be more flexible for players as it is rather niche, unlike WoW. In this spirit, a maximum cap of 70 sounds generous enough to let people contribute at least mediocre stuff (and be part of impalongs). Combine that with massively slower skill gains between 20 and 70 while being non-premium (I think Etherdrifter came up with a similar idea before?) and there might be a good system for both player retention and keeping an incentive for the subscription. The slower skill gain might have a deterring effect yet again, but only toward people who lack the commitment to the game. Someone who cannot bring the same funds to it I can sympathize with, but if you can't commit to this game, at least to this extent, there's no point imho. EDIT: While this idea is fun to spitball about, perhaps allowing the purchase of shorter premium times via shop would equally provide the flexibility required by some players. It is already possible to buy half a month with silver. Buying with silver is comparably expensive though, so some options to buy shorter premium times with real money may be a simpler solution to the "flexibility" problem. This isn't mutually exclusive with this idea though, on the contrary, it may be complementary.

I'm hoping to have test servers on AWS by the end of the week. I've done this so many times now, it's kind of second nature for me. We'll be doing a test with live server data as well. I'm hoping we'll be giving a firm date on the move by the end of two weeks, if not before.

I'll give the break down on the situation since I am the person who organised the Art from the start and got people working on it. So when we founded the PMK we contacted some outside sources who had done Romes previous work and some others who we heard may have a good hand at graphics. Internally within the kingdom we told people that if they wanted to submit a design, go ahead but we're looking for outside help also and the final concept will be voted, this is when Cyberhusky/Anyone contacted me. Anyone was part of the kingdom and was fairly active after having a break from JKC itself, we both use to get on back in the day and I had always called for him to come join us on Chaos, so when he stepped forward he contacted me on steam with original concept, which was a + without a rose and bleach white tabard and some basic design. At this point he was coming forward as a kingdom member "wanting to help" the group so I said great cool, i took that back to the guys in "Top Chat" and things got pointed/wanting altaring. The first thing was the Cross was quite plain so could we add something...So I went and brought a Stock image of a rose and gave that to Cyber, through steam me and cyber spent probably a few hours just altering the design, changing some stripes on the back (never got fixed) and adding "dirt" to the tabard/wagon itself so it wasn't so white - incorporating the rose on the flags, tall banners and wagons etc. Let's just say I probably at this point requested about 25 changes to Cyber, who Also helped me design the actual recruitment page art too and after hassling for so many changes which Anyone was really quick to do, we both worked out the final concept, I had no idea how to do graphic design and of course it makes sense to only have 1 person edit, but it was all the "Top Chats" feedback and we all pitched in the final design. Now at this point, it was 100% volunteer, want to make that crystal clear. After we had the concept and I submitted to Saroman, we got the graphics uploaded but some things didn't go quite right. Just minor glitches but again Anyone cleared these up really fast and we re-submitted a change. After all the hasle I personally felt i put Anyone through, with the constant changes I mentioned to Top Chat that we should Donate Cyber/Anyone some Silver (20 silver) once PMK sales started to thank him for his work because we were all really happy with it and he had made the changes fast/out of his own time, which I let him know, he said there was no need but thank you and sure when that happens that would be nice. Well, Cyber quit. Dropped off Chaos completely and we didn't really talk much. Then one day he popped up again like hey man about that donation, can I have it? I was pretty straight and I said hey man, we've just done x deed x resources and we don't have that donation right now, are you playing on chaos again? He was. He came back and he was playing in a different kingdom. I said to him, mate we don't have the Silver but you can take a PMK set, which he agreed to. I told him I wasn't very active right now but it's all made and who should I send it to, the rest will have to be delivered on freedom, nothing got replied. A few months go past. He's now in LOA. He pops up again and asks about his PMK set, I tell him yes it's ready when he is, he's on chaos so he can come get it anytime he wants. Fast forward a few more months, still not collected, so our friend Talor who i believe is mutual between us both pm's me and asks if he can give Cyber a PMK set and I said yes of course he is owed that and I've told him to come grab it anytime he wants, Talor tried to get that PMK set to Anyone but he as far as i know, failed to make arrangements with Talor and Talor could not deliver the PMK set based on this. Fast forward a few years, add salt, add WO PVP Drama and you got a salty person who has told @Egard(and Egard may add the screenshots) that he's pretty much pursing this because of his personal vendetta against me. Which is fair enough I suppose. So that's the back story to all of how we're here but I have a few questions to ask. 1. I own the Rose since I paid for the copyright to be used in Our art, how do you copyright something that I own? 2. If we magically were able to give the silver, what would have stopped him from chasing this today because of personal issues with me? Sounds like even if we paid him 500 euros, his "case" would still be valid to remove the art? 3. If he was thinking he was getting paid for his art work, why didn't he await the payment, as anybody would before giving it all to me to submit, not only submit but make amendments for me to resubmit to Art team? 4. Why wait almost 4 years to make a complaint - When clearly you were failing to make arrangements to collect your Donation. If this is the final choice (as it seems to be) then I am sorry to the players who purchased the Artwork who have been affected. Anyones vendetta doesn't just scope towards me, but instead hits out at all those who invested in the art and added it to their collection. It's very unfortunate that Anyone wouldn't help us deliver his Donation but at the same time as pointed above even if we did it seems like he could have withdrew this art at anytime he wanted. I suppose it's lucky he can't Copyright the Crusader theme so don't expect too much of a wild change as I'm sure we can muster up a Cross and still use my Stock rose as the basis - We will make a few designs and will probably allow you to vote for them. As @Egardsaid we will work close with the community to bring a great design and if @Saromanand @Retrogradecan contact me through a PM for advice, that would be great. I may edit this like 500 times because reasons. Some references I can muster up right now which were used in the case, timestamps do not represent when it was actually asked. ^ "hint: it's a joke haha ha ha ...ha"

Then i will wait patiently for this post as i personally want to see both sides their reasons for this as its the same deal with wu's sudden art change a case of jumping the gun with no warning to the public/people involved and wurm needs to stop that so if this is a case of them going about it the wrong way again then it will be a good learning experience for them to not do it again

No this should be included with the deed, hardly anyone really plays this game or want's to try it out anymore. The biggest draw back in my opinion is the premium cost, the price for a deed and the insane price for upkeep when you expand more than default values. I feel like the current prices should be cut in half. I really also think this game should reduce the cost of membership by half or allow you to link another account like your priest to your main. QoL is needed here. First thing I do when looking for a game is look at everything, gameplay, lifespan, costs, is it pay to win, the cash shop prices reasonable etc (I've said cash shop would increase revenue for Wurm and I still stand by that. Just don't charge 100$ for a dress or something.) I wouldn't touch Wurm Online if I was a new player in 2019 when there are better alternatives on steam such as Unlimited or Ark. This is the raw and honest truth.

Upkeep is already outrageous, not to mention the initial cost of expanding tiles. We have done well to get where we are now regarding decay on deed, they may be more generous in the future but right now it is significantly better than it was.
