"You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fallen down by the way and ignore them; You shall help him to lift them up again." Deuteronomy 22:4 Seleas(Edward Keene) was always giving, always honourable and a good hearted person. I simply wanted to share the knowledge of his passing with those of you who may have remembered his time here. To be brief and to my best knowledge: Edward stopped to help a person change a tire on the I4 in Florida around 1am on Feb 18th 2019, during which a car struck him well off the shoulder of the right lane. The Driver failed to stop but was apprehended soon thereafter. I need not post the news story here, it is easily searchable on google if desired. I was an online friend exclusively for roughly 3 years, but over that time we spent many hours gaming and simply chatting, I WILL miss him. Please feel free to post positive comments/tales of adventure here! Farewell Edward...

Foggy morning - Kasumi Hi Everyone! It's been a rough few weeks with ups and downs, and we know everyone is feeling a little drained by it, but rest assured, we are working through these issues and coming up with plans to resolve each and every one. Some of these plans may take a little longer to get into effect than others, but there is a path! I myself have been bobbing along working on Archaeology on Independence, I'm keen for 90, I can taste it! (I'm leaving so many fragments behind I think I need a maid though). Now it's time to touch on what we've been up to, we've got some good news ahead to lets get to it But first... Patch Notes WU Beta! It's been a long time coming, but with a lot of changes with the new tutorial system, fishing and everything else in the past six months WU will be getting a huge update in the coming weeks. We are working on an internal build and will have a beta build up as soon as we can for all the modders and hosts to ensure everything will run smoothly. Laggy hidden bugs! With our ongoing work on fixing lag with server side polling tweaks, we have encountered a few instances where improving the lag has caused other bugs to come out of the woodworks. This is what resulted in the crash on Xanadu earlier this week. Improving the servers speed in saving to the database by avoiding unnecessary polling and querying in batches has unearthed some issues with server configuration. Todays restart is focused on addressing that configuration error before it causes more crashes. As for the independence issues, we believe this to be due to the disk replacement or new hardware and are currently investigating. We are also currently in the process of looking for a more permanent solution to the hosting issues we have been facing in the recent weeks. We do understand the lag can be quite frustrating so want a resolution quickly. Once we have a solid plan on the next steps we will share them, along with a detailed postmortem of the server issues we have been facing. Alongside the 5 hours sleep bonus, we'll also be giving out a 3 day premium code for all players to redeem! This code will be available after tomorrows restart (not todays) along with the 5 hours sleep bonus. Far far away With vast improvements in client performance, we continue to look at ways to improve the look and feel of the game, and one area inparticular is the long distance terrain being rather bare. As you can see below, Samool has gotten his ever talented mind on the task of improving the look of distant terrain and I have to say, it looks amazing. That's it from us this week, we hope you enjoy the sleep bonus and premium time as our way of saying thanks for putting up with the issues, hopefully soon we'll have a solution guaranteed to end it to share with you all. Until then though, Keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team

The cheeky forest giant has been found and we have it penned down, very securely.. no , we do. The slaying will be on Saturday night, aiming to make it an all time zone friendly slay. Should be 11pm UK, 5pm Saturday USA and 10am Sunday Australia. 'The Forest Giant is a unique creature that roams the forests of Wurm. The Forest Giant is armed with a 65ql Huge Club that it will use for attacking and parrying. The Forest Giant is easily recognised due to its massive size and antlers. When slain, every premium player in local will receive blood. Mixing Forest Giant blood with source salt will create a Potion of woodcutting.' The location will be up on Friday. We will roll some loot to fighters that will appear on the list abstracted from Niarja, minus alts. Pre-warning, you may want to bring stamina sandwiches and stay on climb during the fight, its rather high up.. if he throws you, it won't be that pleasant! Go up the tunnel as normal and follow the land across once up top, heading southeast.

Think about it this way. If you go to a bar and meet a stranger to yap about the whole evening with, its reasonable to assume at some point you will buy them a beer. Here im the US a beer at a bar averages 5 dollars. If you pay someone else 2 beers a week thats over 40 dollars a month. This can exponentially increase with the amount of beers you decide to pay your friend. In Wurm, a sizeable deed enough to host several plots for housing is 3 silver a month. That's about 4 US dollars. This mean I can host someone in Wurm for less than the cost of a single beer at a bar. I get to pay for a deed with enough space to hold several friends and pretty much all of us will ever need for less than the cost of a beer at your average bar. Sure this may vary from country to country, but the sentiment is the same. Now lets look at what I get for my 4 dollars other than just an economic decision: Im general, 2 players wont level their characters the same way. So there is the possibility your friend will level a skill you dont have. Or that they will help you with your digging project. Or maybe they will be in local to accept that order you placed in the forums, while you are logged off and asleep. But better yet, you may get to meet someone you may enjoy spending your nights chatting with on discord. To most of us Wurm is form of social interaction or stress relief of some kind. And what better way to do that than surrounded with friends? Btw, welcome back Vern. You should come and join us in Indy!

Well things changed, today i met with Emohobo, the guy who wanted to buy my deed, and...i'm not selling, we decided to team up and work on projects i had here and perhaps few more in future, it does mean i won't leave, tho im backing up from social life, forums, gonna be laid back and casual player from now. Thanks everyone for offers on my deed/priests, yeah it does mean i won't sell my priests too so i'm loosing a lot of money but well it is a game, sorry for trouble and good luck in wurming And thanks for everyone who sent me good words, thanks for backing me up from making really big mistake on selling my chars i was working 5 years Anyway i still think "someone" is an egoist peron but i won't say his name, don't want devs to remove my posts

Posts in this thread have confirmed that your perception was incorrect. We don’t have a silent issue with it. If you find it difficult you should make a post in the suggestions forum. Taking it personally and saying the devs are insulting you makes it difficult to take you seriously. Notch made a lot of mistakes when he was a Wurm dev, but most people seem to have forgotten about that or weren’t around for it.

I have now this : https://imgur.com/XMIGuU0 and this: https://imgur.com/qFVvD5H And i dont do archeology to much. We need some use for thouse, we need to consume them and put them for some use. Less tokens less lags. Some ideas : 1. smelt them for ore ( Glimer, seryl and adamanite to) 2. crush them for some random prize inside. 3. sac them for deed bonuses ( more knowdlege bonus time limited or rarity bonus at rate 1 rarity for 1 token) 4. Make a system that will consume small tokens when you collect every possible metal type in game (so when you gather iron copper zinc and all others) for some deed bonus or items. - we can do that at deed tokens placing small tokens in some kind of slots. 5. Use them on normal token to change it color to metal small token metal color. 6.Crush them for tresure map fragments (50-100 tokens = 1 map) that will lead us to larg tresure chest (random tile on land at map creation server) that chest will contains 100 archo items (similar to small box we get when fill the archo deed raport). And chance for rare/supr/fant exclusive item.

My proposal is fairly simple and convoluted at the same time. Nice clear start am I right? I suggest the following. Instead of endlessly debating what do to with the Wurm economy atm, which is based on the silver- real life money - in game demand for items relationship, I propose to introduce two new currency types in wurm to revitalize the economic interactions in Wurm. Thew new currency types, conceptually would be something like: 1. Magic tokens (pick another name if you want) - These would work as follows. Let's say we create an NPC institution that spawns quests similar to mission. Something like a Trader's Guild of Npcs or An Enchanter's Guild. These would offer various quests to donate items to them, both in terms of bulk materials and specific items, such as armor sets, weapons, spices, etc. The rewards for these "quests" or whatever you want to call them would be in the form of magic tokens. These Tokens can only be used at Guilds in starter towns to buy stuff from the respective guild. The tokens will be non - drop (altough they can be banked), non -tradeable, and non-buyable through the store. They must be earned by each player. What can you buy with these tokens? I've been thinking a while on this and one of the cool things you could buy would be time-limited enchantments, infusions and boost. Example #1 The enchanter's guild is working on a secret project to extract the magical properties from rare items. Donate - a rare weapon, a rare tool and a rare armor piece. The reward will be 500 magic tokens. Once the items are donated, they will be effectively destroyed from the game. So you got 500 magic tokens now, what does the Enchanter's guild/Trader's Guild offer for them? Let's say the Enchanter's guild offers short term enchants or infusions that can be bought with said tokens. For example A) an infusion of Dexterity : You feel your mind race as it makes new connections much faster than before and you feel much more dexterous than before. For the next 10 minutes, all your crafting actions will be shortened by 50% timers. B ) A carrot on a stick, that can be fed to a horse to give it a 25% speed boost increase for 15 minutes. C) A mysterious elixir that is said to make one stronger in combat : Provides +5 CR for 5 minutes, good for hunting. D) A crystal of attunement : Temporarily gives + 1 action (10 ML points ) for 15 minutes. E) Etc. You get the idea. Example # 2 The Trader's Guild is in search of new business opportunities. To that end it needs new bulk materials to reach new markets . Same idea as enchanter's guild but the rewards will be different. You still get tokens, but you can either name them "trader guild tokens" that can only be used with the Trader's guild, or keep them the same as "magic tokens" to be used for enchanter's guild and the trader's guild. The trader's guild items that can be bought with in game money could be related to the business of business itself. E.g. : A) The Coinkeeper's Sprint : Increases vehicle speed by 30% for 10 minutes. B ) The merchant's pouch : A finely woven pouch to keep your coins. Holds silvers, magic tokens and other currency. Non impable. C) Tradesman's touch : Increases ship hold capacity by 20% for 24 hrs. D) Sailor's skill : Increases ship speed by 30% for 24 hrs. E) Miner's Might - One mining action gives 2 ores instead of 1. Lasts 20 minutes. The idea behind magic tokens, or w/e nomenclature you want to assign to them is that you can only earn them. They provide short term boosts that improve the quality of life for various actions. Ideally some should be disabled for pvp to prevent any exploits or new metas. The cool part about them is that you can now get rid of many of your items that are probably loitering around in your chests with no use since no one is buying them. A rare leggat might be nice or a rare spoon, but with no real practical use. This way, you can trade some things for more useful things to improve the gameplay experience. 2. Dragon coins . "A round coin with the engraving of a dragon. It seems to be made of an unknown material, and is almost weightless." Unlike magic tokens, these could be bought from the store, but cannot be traded in game. They can be banked but cannot be used to pay for upkeep and such. How to earn them? Besides obviously buying them from the store, one way to earn them is through completing certain challenges of skill. These challenges could be similar to Journal goals, albeit they can have a repetitive nature similar to valrei missions. Earning them can be tweaked based on difficulty and RNG in the longrun. But what do they do? What does one do with such coins? One thing to do with them is the ability to use them to purchase vanity items such as cloaks, special tabards, titles, etc. These items shouldn't provide any game breaking bonuses or maluses but they could provide an opportunity for people to acquire new stuff to individualize their characters. Also the ability to temporarily trade with a dragon for such coins could be added in game. For example a dragon could request an unusual items in exchange of parting with some of its prized hoard of dragon coins. An item such as a supreme longsword, or a fantastic item. Perhaps an offering of many horses to sate its hunger or special runes the dragon uses for some nefarious purpose. 3. New currency types for new purposes? You suggest. One of the core ideas behind adding new currencies is to alleviate the burden of every item being valued around silvers. Sure you could try selling that rare rake. But perhaps donating it to the enchanter's guild might prove more beneficial in the long run when you take a look at what they can offer in exchange, yes? Or maybe you're tired of your hoard of weapons and armors and tools you'll never use and think to yourself that maybe it's better to trade them to another guild in exchange for some bonuses. This way, items that normally would never leave circulation , can now "be deleted" from the game by player choice AND they can be rewarded for it in the form of other currencies that do not break the value of silvers.

So what your saying is: that when I started playing this game many years ago, and was killed by a noob griefer within 20 minutes of starting the game, I should have been banned from playing? This was before the ability of noobs to even keep their gear on death, it was stolen and disposed of somewhere. How is that supposed to help the game add players? I was attacked by a Noob Griefer carrying a Troll Club at the starter town - by definition that is PvP I wandered off into the wilderness and survived by searching the wiki, learning about crude tools and making them. I got lucky and found a fire starter. The rest is history. Sorry but this is a really, really bad idea.

I have generally found this to be true in creation success rates, that when the Skill itself is too much lower than the material qualities that failures will be greater. In particular with concrete creation with low NS and Alchemy skill. So in these instances I attempt to use lower QL mats. The problem then becomes that I have a harder time producing lower QL mats because the other skills to create those are much higher. Gotcha! at work here. Those responding here seem to have very high NS skill though so I am a bit surprised that the problem still persists. =Ayes=

I agree with Angelklaine, and WURM Deeds used to be very expensive versus now. My deed costs almost $4 a month which is basically a beer or me at the bar. The reason I recruit is its more fun to work with friends and make new friends, and some of us have skills we have leveled versus other skills the others have leveled. Also recruiting villagers in North Xanadu gives them a safe place to work and learn than having to watch their backs for Trolls and Hellhounds which they wont be able to handle till about 45-50 fight skill and decent armor. Also at times I think WURM should go back to more expensive deeds and promote village life ad give deeds more bonus's with more villagers. The Hermit mentality I think can hurt the game in some ways. One player recently told me their Alliance is fairly anti social and have new comers living in shacks outside their deeds, new comer's looking for villages but not getting sent to recruiting villages that would gladly take them in and teach them the game so that maybe they would stick around. WURM could grow and thrive but there are some issues killing it, and its time WURMIANS figure it out.

Thank you for the feedback, personally I don't see at this point what Wurm online has to lose by attempting to implement such a system. Give it a try? Who knows, people might love it. Adds more layers of complexity. As for karma and missions, tbh, besides pvp , there is little to no incentive to do missions on freedom other than sleep bonus. But often times, missions have such a high scale of difficulty that you'd spent hours and hours just to get 40 mins of SB. Not everybody does missions. Usually it's just a small % of population. My proposal wasn't just for item sinks, but also new small one time use boosts that can be bought that improve various actions in wurm. Sailing faster, smithing faster, less fails on imp, temporarily increasing health so you can hunt that pesky champ troll that killed your horse, etc.

See i would trade a Rare pickaxe in for a mission if the mission was to give 6k karma. That's 6s, the pickaxe is likely around 4, so i get a non tradable item in return for a tradeable item but save myself 2s if i were to go to somebody with cash, It also sinks the item out of the economy over time could lead to demmand more than we can supply. Following the missions from Epic; if giving a supreme pickaxe gave me 30k Karma and gave me points towards rolling towards a tome, I would trade that in also.

I would have to agree with a lot of the points that Roccandil is making in this thread. Although he may be short on tact in expressing them, at heart they are valid objections which can lead to the dissatisfactions with the game that he indicated. Add onto that he makes other threads in a similar negative critique of game functions and some (points at you) might become impatient with his pointing these things out. If there are any "insulting" comments as you suggest they don't stand out to me as being intended to that effect. I think also it would be hard to deny that these issues are frustrating parts of the game experience, so I don't think that players should be discouraged from pointing them out. =Ayes=

One more thing: I realized that one basic component of the above is this: - Allow mobs to be bound into squads that share aggro: if one member is attacked, all respond. I think that could apply to much more than Rifts (think all wolves in range coming to the aid of one of their own).
  47. 1 point
Epic is the true sandbox that wurm was meant for, where the players rule themselves, if your neighbour griefs you, you go kill him. If you can't kill him, you got other options: Political - You could bring it up with your alliance and get votes/him her removed Money - Pay somebody to kill them or for them to leave you alone Allies - Bring your friends down and be like oi m8 gtfo on Freedom: Get a gm cause you can't do ANYTHING. I believe Freedom is not a sandbox because you need rules to make sure you're fine. You limit players actions. You limit the possibilities. You play 50% of the game. On Epic I don't think I ever had to call a GM over to Serenity or Desertion on another player, because we all dealt with it ourselves. We had a guy steal the Forest Giant corpse at a slaying and we had to deal with a bigger alliance ourselves to get it back (which we did) No big group wants a home server war and no neighbour wants a neighbourhood battle, it was all great. Wurm is Politics, being social and not being hand held. Don't cry about the wordings of rules that pretty much Freedom requires because you're all soft. Try going Epic, you'll find it much less drama and barely any rules outside of cheating/macroing and meta gaming and with that you will worry less about the wording of rules because you deal with it yourself. Freedom? More like Restriction. Should really get that name changed.
