After a time of surveillance we have busted a ring of macroers who produce bulkable goods for the market through automated means. As this is such a large, and very intentional, breaking of the rules everyone caught will be completely removed from the game. Ringleaders: Arafort, Legengrayz, Xdeadmousex

I personally can't see anything changing. Seeing how a lot of staff help pen and attend private slayings. If the devs change the way scale and drake drops that may be an incentive for some. It is entirely possible to form a group that hunts uniques to make them public, I imagine those interested could easily match the number that prefer private slays. Saying , they find them so quick whats the point is a defeatist attitude, Zor and I never give up hope and we still find some from time to time even though far outnumbered.

During my time in Wurm I have seen all kinds of sillyness surounding uniques. People lay their claims, fight over them, argue with each other and even throw tantrums when they don't get their way. I am sure this causes division between players unecesarily, and surely headaches to staff. So here's my suggestion how to fix it. In regards to hatched uniques from eggs, nothing here applies and they work as normal. Make unique spawns similar to Rifts Unique spawns should create an area of influence at their spawn location which prevents terraforming and deed dropping in the affected area. Any off deed buildings present are not able to be repaired during the duration, and no fencing or new construction can be started until the event ends. This would effectively prevent the "penning" of uniques. Furthermore, make it so players have to be inside the area of influence to be able to attack, so archery from complete safety will not be a thing. Participation would be required. Tether uniques to the spawn area of influence Uniques would not be able to be kited outside this area or to a deed. Besides preventing uniques from being penned by skirting the system, this would prevent uniques from wandering and exiting the area of influence, or coming across player deeds where they could cause damage. Allow an unlimited amount of players to attack the unique and increase its total health (but not their health regen) This allows for more participation and time to show up before the unique is killed. It will also make small numbers of players trying to fight it have to stay there a longer time, without requiring an increase to the minimun of players present to kill it. It would also allow for more people to participate, without the unique "melting" to a barrage of damage from a large number of players, yet not increasing the difficulty or danger posed by them. Add a bar to the Mission Progress viewable to the server, similar to rifts The bar should reflect the unique's health. This allows everyone to know an unique has spawned in the server, if its being fought, and how much longer they have to get there. Make rewards automatically go to fighter's inventory Unique rewards such as bone, hats, and tomes should be randomly distributed to those present who participated significantly in the fight similar to how rifts reward players. Bloods, leather and scale should be rewarded to everyone who succesfully dealt damage to the unique. Amounts rewarded from these global rewards should be proportionate to how much damage the player does to the unique or how much healing was done. Larger participation should reward bigger amounts of scale/drake. Skull, meat and animal parts should be obtained from butchering as normal. Add a general location to the Mission Progress bar Similar to the location of avatars, there should be a general location of where the unique is. Given players won't be rewarded for finding and penning uniques any longer, it should be made clearer where they are so they can be found. --- The idea with this suggestion is to make uniques more available to more people and eliminate the arguments surrounding them. Giving everyone a chance at them and their rewards instead of a selected few of players would help accomplish this. Discuss!

Aw shucks! The randomizer sent me to Affliction this month and I thought I had a real good participant but he never noticed me during the 10 minute window. He was simply too busy polishing his grass tiles, and smoothing out the bark on some of his trees. He stood a chance at receiving the Supreme Spoon of Awesomeness!.... legend has it that this super rare spoon of the gods makes anything you eat taste awesome and nutritious with the additional benefit of granting you super human strength. It could also be used as a weapon against the Weirbeast of Mor-Kellba which guards the hidden vaults of the mythical chest of the fabled Gold 20 coin! Then again, it might just be a piece of gold pressed latinum from another universe, but we will never know now... into the void it goes.... Better luck next time!

Xanadu is on the way back up again (15-20 minute boot time). This issue has nothing to do with the Indy move or the lag reduction efforts. I was able to capture useful data and we will be reviewing.

Indy's data has been transferred successfully and restored onto the hardware. Today's update has been applied. I will be bringing Golden Valley up first, followed by Independence in a locked-down state at first. The servers may show as online, but they will not be! I will post here once my testing is done and all servers are starting.

I was a forum moderator (and CA) before becoming a dev, so I'm not sure I count as a normal player per sé, but being a dev has actually made me enjoy the game more. Digging around in the code, I found some really silly easter eggs, which I then had to try, and seeing how people use or experience bits I've created is fantastic. Also, most of the small changes I've made were things that really annoyed me as a player (and I still have a list of those I haven't gotten to). I do occasionally hit something, and wonder how it really works, and have to go digging in the code to figure it out. But being able to really test stuff as a player is hugely helpful - a bunch of stuff in the cooking update got changed before launch because although it seemed like a good idea in theory, once we actually tried using it (without using GM spawns, etc), it just didn't work. The challenge as a dev is to avoid implementing in such a way that only fits my personal play style. But I do feel the pain of not enough documentation (this was my main complaint before joining staff), so I do try to make sure stuff is usefully documented. Eventually.

To say that I was completely mind blown by the actions of Oblivionnreaver this past weekend would be putting it mildly. I understand that game mechanics may have allowed him to do it, but the fact that he would actually do it just ... seriously blows me away. That he would go out of his way to do something like this speaks volumes about who he truly is. I think that someone needs to step in and tell him that he crossed a line that never should have been. If I were to mine around the perimeter of someone else's deed I would expect to be banned for griefing or at least be given a warning, and told not to do it again. I would expect to be told that is not a respectable way to behave or to treat other players. Play nice in the sandbox. There are written down game rules that we are all expected to follow, but there are also common courtesy, common sense rules that we all are expected to live by as well. Like ask the locals in the area you choose to settle in if what you would like to do is encroaching on them or their plans or, If it looks like someone is living there and using the place, most of us won't bash the fences and steal their live stock just because we can, another good one is, Don't rob your friends blind just because they gave you access to their stuff. Yanno, FAIR GAME PLAY rules. To have the outer edge of our perimeter mined out to promote the release of the unique penned in it is crossing the line. The fact that he would even try doing that is incomprehensible to me and the fact that a group of players came here and helped him do that to us is confusing me. Is there some thing we did to you to make you dislike or disrespect us? I would NEVER do that to anyone. I honestly am confused. Some of you are people we considered friends so to have you help him do this is something I do not understand. We completely get that it is fair game on uniques when they are free and running around but once someone has it penned down it's no longer free for the taking. Move on, another one will spawn. Some times we catch them, sometimes you do, well done for you when you do. But for you to come here and take ours away from us by mining the area surrounding our deed, there is no simpler way to put it, that is straight up a d#%k move and is griefing us and should be dealt with as such. This greedy selfish inconsiderate act needs to be addressed. I think we need some clear rules in place to stop players from doing things like Oblivionnreaver did to us this past weekend. Keep the players as honest as you can by setting out clear guidelines as to what is exceptable behaviour and what is not. Removing the huge financial gain from the uniques drops will help lessen Oblivionnreaver's greedy lust for them, I vote to remove tomes from unique drops, add them to rifts as a rare random drop, perhaps then he can spend his time chasing those instead of griefing us. Change the way the hide and scale is divided between the players, only people who actually hit the drake get a piece, there is a limit to how many players can be fighting so less chance for lots of extra alts left standing in local getting a piece of the loot just for being close by, players must be premium for 3+ months at least and have a certain fight skill level for their hits to count. Changing if they can be penned is not the answer to this problem, it will just make it more impossible for them to be killed, it is hard to get 15+ players together at one time for the skills required to kill them in a short period of time. I also see problems with new players being killed by them and properties being damaged. Perhaps removing the twitter feeds and in game public announcements of them spawning and rework how they are spawned, so it's more of a random stumble on to them like other animals. In our group most of the players are just trying to make themselves a nice set of armour, yes we have some senior players who have their sets already made but the largest part of our group are players working on making their first set. Our group is not about greed and financial gain. Any money gained from the unique kills is divided evenly amongst the players who participate and assist in the capture of a unique. It is not going to one player who is exploiting the system. Our group is not an elite group, it is open to any player that is an active responsible member of the Deliverance community. We do not go to other servers to try to take their uniques away from them, nor would we try to take one away from another player who has found one or caught one on Deliverance before us. We WILL defend our rights to keep one we found first though and if we came upon players who had found a unique before us we would NEVER try to lure it away or take it from them. Again FAIR GAME PLAY. This is not something that should be overlooked or brushed aside, this kind of behaviour needs to be addressed.

I WILL say All unique should be public killings that happen within 2-3 hours of said spawn for the people online when its found and stop the special groups of privileged people blocking content ment for everyone - FREE THE MONSTERS! make dragons fly.. make them teleport. do whatever to keep special closed groups from being the only ones to enjoy a slaying .....That Said OBLIVION-REIVER puts on more public slayings than anyone else i have ever seen so that gives her a step up on the old superiority list in my opinion ...to all the petty little whiners in every other private group that doesn't share their kills with the general public YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

It is not hard to bend the rules.... I have already some ideas how the rules can be bent within the range of the rules and with that to be able to ###### up PVE servers... and a lot of people would be frustrated afterwards. Now you are talking about was it fair to pen unique or not... I am talking about code of honour and fair game mechanics... just because you have not predicted something and have not prepared to deal with something does not mean it should be allowed... You just sit here now and think about one thing but if this barrier is removed (code of honour) then whats next? Most of the people who play on PVE servers play for the sake of the game not to ###### over other players... if we would want to do that we would go to Chaos... Chaos if full with uniques as far as I know? why does Oblivionreaver doesn't go there? afraid to go in PVP area and lose its expensive gear? afraid to face PVP combat possibility? I bet Chaos player community would welcome your visit with open arms and sharp blades... For those who read this thread and think "why should I care" or "I haven't been to any hunts, closed hunting groups are a cancer"... if you wont get involved you wont get anything... for all the wurmians who think that they have no chance I want to say... Join your servers hunting group, if your server dont have hunting group, form your own group... I can share a good framework how to make a honest hunting group if you want to form one. Dont let some random scavengers walk around your server and steal your possibilities. Those who are saying that Oblivion is the high messiah just because he is making public hunts.... ask yourself... what exactly have you gotten from those hunts? there is plenty of people who have gotten ###### over by him... last if I remember correctly was the fantastic bone... group effort in killing but benefits went just for one. Again.. Join your servers hunting groups if you want to be a part... if your server does not have a hunting group, make your own!!! if you need assistance how to make one, give me a shout, I will help you set up a hunting group with all the tips and tricks. If you are from Deli server and dont really want join the existing hunting group I will also help you to set up a hunting group with one agreement... code of honour agreement...

Well, if you can't beat them, join them. This would basically automate "penning" and get the drama out of the way. I'd go a step further and outright make "penning" a wholly supported action on a technical level as to better streamline the process. I'm thinking of besieging uniques. They have to be found first as usual - this will preserve their hunting aspect - and a player can decide to start a "siege" on the unique. That is the moment the "Rift" as proposed in the OP spawns, not determined by the server, but by a players action. The besieger could also set an attack timer for people to rally, or a standard 48h timer is set off, until which the unique cannot be attacked. If a player could decide when the battle starts, they could account for timezones etc. and slaying could basically proceed as they have so far. The idea is rough around the edges for sure, but I think it's a good way to have the best of both worlds and replace penning with something that isn't so hamfisted and prone to drama while being functionally the same as it is now.

I heartily agree with Ayes post above. As for the issue of uniques' mechanics I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I don't like the idea of a rampaging dragon potentially destroying someone's deed. So I very selfishly like the idea that people pen them quickly, which prevents that from happening to anyone. On the other hand, I don't like the idea of 'leet' groups having very real monopolies on something that has the potential for such high RL Cash value. Yes, yes, they say "well anyone can go do that themselves, get out there and look for them." Yet here we see the results of someone trying to do just that but maybe not being quite so proficient at it as some others. I wasn't there, and I can't say I know any of the parties involved, but what I see from where I'm sitting is...."anyone can go out and do it themselves, get out there and look, do all the work, and then we'll take it away from you." Pvp has no place on pve servers, imo. Uniques are flawed by game design and I really do think it needs to change. I don't have any bright ideas myself but I've seen a few suggestions that I think would work.

No. The intent of this thread was for Velvetsun to describe this situation and express disapproval for what happened. Accomplished within the OP. If afterwards any mud that was slung about by whomever *stuck*, then the surface it adhered to was appropriate for the *sticking*. The fact that Obie tracked down this creature, saw it was contained within a deed and then gathered his compatriots together to attempt to free it for their gathered slaughtering points to the fact of the "intent" here that they had for doing such. Simply put it was to take advantage of a flaw in the deed design that had put their claim upon this creature within it. A common practice easily understood by all these unique killers, that being to contain it within a mine deed. Usually things carry on from there with the group who placed the deed killing it as they decide. The big difference in this situation is that after this deed group had already contained this creature Obie and compatriots sought a way to take it from them. Here is the doh-ifference for those who wish to gloss over it. I seem to recall some few years back before some of the justifiers of this situation were in existence here that there were some peculiarities in deed settings that allowed other players to take advantage of them to abscond (steal) some items from the deed. It could be done so what's the problem that they then complained about with such outrage? Same as this situation it seems to me. To take something from others that they had already laid claim to by game design. Common decency it seems can not be taught within the game. You either come to the game with it or not. Greed is not learned within this game either. It is within the character of the person who enters it. There are degrees of this trait of treating others fairly and I sort of doubt that after playing the game for any amount of time there will be much improvement within the character of those who lack it. As you can see here they will only attempt to justify their actions with statements hard to connect to reality or a feigned lack of concern. We are all far from perfect but some are a lot farther than others, it seems to me. Online games loosen the restraints of real world actions and from that I think you can more clearly see the character of others. Although we are all fellow Wurmanites here, those you associate with and support reveals a lot about yourself as well. Maybe showing more respect for others playstyles might help us all. =Ayes=

To those who have interacted with the 'Babelfishie' avatars, I would like to clear up some misconceptions. We have a nearly ten year history with this person via a bunch of other avatar names, and none of it has been pleasant. We know him more prominently as Boston and this person has a solid history of violating our chat rules, game rules, and has committed many abuses towards our community. I have received a number of 'appeals' regarding his permaban on his behalf by 3rd parties, which I assume were pushed by this person. I want to be clear, that at each altercation and penalty, while this person has denied receiving any explanation for his penalties, We have in fact left ban reasons and emails with this person. His 'medical' excuses for why he continues this behavior are not my concern and I cannot govern his life or state of mind. My task is to administrate the rules and make sure that everyone willing to play the game within the given rules can enjoy the service that we provide. While I typically do not divulge details in cases for our penalties, we do not arbitrarily ban anyone. For many years this person has continually appealed his ban even though we have told him not to bother us about it ever again. In 2016 I made the mistake of not telling him he is unwelcome as I mistakenly assumed he had been playing within the rules under a new alias. I was wrong about that. He had not been an active player and until recently I had no reason to pay him any more mind until we began receiving some varied complaints about how he was treating people and he also began wasting our time with more appeals. I do not enjoy banning people... well... maybe a bit.... but the paperwork! Thank you, /Enki (Head Game Master)(the one with the bloodied ban hammer)

What's left unanswered is... if even 1 item is NOT collected, and action is canceled by pressing escape or *MOVING*(this causes ash collecting to cancel) -> both turn the source you collect from.. into depleted source, that is still intentional behavior? I get the part where you could collect 3-4 items as in 3x ash or 4 fruits/nuts.. and canceling -1 from last, letting you rest(which afaik was never the case, anyway), but.... none of that is a thing here.. Collecting ash and making a step aside - auto-cancels the actions and forces the player to perform 3x actions and retrieving some materials and tools to work with to recover the same state of the object it was working with(when collecting ash) IMO it's a relevant bug. /could be wrong but.. personally I expect different behavior: not losing the ash collecting ability if a step is performed and action is not intentionally canceled with the keybinds and methods to cancel it, is moving intentional, as many other collecting actions allow movement.. while the player is still within reach of 0.5-1.5 tiles from the source? Personal experience.. as much as I remember.. collecting 1st fruit - resets state to picked clean, but if action starts and before the 15th second you cancel - no fruit/nut is picked and the source tree/bush remains unpicked and harvestable.

I think the OP didn't mean geographically inaccessible. He means, that it is often the the same group of players that catches and properly secures the unique, which is often killed then in private - the next spawn is long time later. Many players want to have the uniques to be a more available to lots of players - in a public event, always. I like the rifts, you can't easily manipulate them as you can do with uniques. In a change, a Dragon lair could spawn, green laser in the sky, little baby dragons roam the area, similar to rifts, and the end boss is the dragon mother herself.

Drake and Dragon armor sets should be sold in the Wurm Shop. Who would this hurt then? Only the Dragon hunters who sell these finished products to others. If anyone else doesn't want to pay for this in the Wurm Shop then they can still go hunt these Dragons for it same as now. Nothing changes then but the profit potential of individual players, who of course will object to this because their RL money income will be reduced. Do they care that the game can profit more with this system instead? Ha, no way. Yes I agree, simple as it has always been when it comes to the ability to make a RL profit from playing the game and those will use it to their advantage with whatever tactics they can get away with. Otherwise everyone should agree that Drake and Dragon scale sets should be available to be purchased in the Wurm Shop. Great idea! Simplicity exemplified and executed. =Ayes=

Cat's out of the bag now. Slipped on its own butter instead of escaping. Actually early on in this thread you incriminated yourself by providing details of what you did instead of just remaining silent and letting others assume wrongly or creating their own imagined circumstances. I do like the random chance of a unique spawning at a rift event -would increase participation -is a well known place throughout a server with enough time ahead to know about it -makes sense as rifts are sort of our endgame content and already spawn very hard creatures -rifts are supposed to be invasions, wouldn't mind if the uniques in them would be like corrupted versions of current uniques

Rewarding people who don't even make an effort to be present is ridiculous to me. Those present should be rewarded. Those who help kill it should get a chance of a drop. Hell, I'd make it that if you don't help kill it, you get nothing, thus stopping alt hoarding. Just look at how other games do it.
