This is a copy paste from a suggestion I made in another thread which gained some traction, to discuss the topic solely. Essentially aimed at increasing the level and difficultly of PvE by making the tracking skill more fun & interactive and useful for hunting mobs, either individually or in groups. The Initial Idea: The idea is that we could make monster "spawns" a trigger event specifically a result of tracking. For example, if you track for something eventually you trigger a spawn (creature spawns) a number of tiles away. So you get a fight on your hands. With a bigger rework this could lead to a progression based track, similar to archaeology caches, such as a hunter getting more and more spawns the longer you keep it going (in a single session). So you stumble upon a troll, track a camp with 2 more trolls, eventually find a cave entrance with a miniature stronghold of 20+ trolls. But only if you keep on their trail in a set amount of time. The player has the choice of when "enough is enough" and its getting too hard to continue on the trail, or can invite a hunting party. To prevent players tracking and "spawning" larger camps on new players we could add that the monsters spawned as a result of tracking are only aggressive to the tracker or anyone who attacks first - to prevent a stronghold spawning on a newbie in the area? My own opinion on this is: +1 to anything that makes PvE Interesting, I've found it mundane trying to find trolls etc to fight and skill my FS. -1 to anything that would impact newbies negatively. Implementation Suggestions: Make sure spawns are tied in with fight skill and tracking, and make spawns away from start towns and highways. A further option would be to limit how far these spawned monsters can walk from their camp, keeping them close knit to return with a friend when things get tough, but also ensuring a swarm don't wander toward new players. In my opinion tracked creatures should also be related to the terrain where possible for added Lore and immersion, trolls when rock tiles are within X distance, wolves/bear requiring forest (tree tiles), crocodiles, anaconda in desert etc... Graphics for Stronghold or small mob camps would be a nice addition too ^-^ In terms of rewards, I don't think we should add anything new other than what is butchered, but there is the opportunity to then take this further and have 95+ tracking, who clear lots of difficult mobs eventually spawn some kind of boss. (eg. Kill a Troll Stronghold, find evidence of another potential tribe to the north, where there's a Champion Troll and more of his friends). Possibly up to a Troll King for example, or Forest Giant protecting his wolf friends (which were coming in huge packs later in the content), obviously a rare spawn and requiring insane 95+ tracking skill. Removed Uniques from the scope of this suggestion following community feedback, however new "tougher than champion" monsters would be welcomed, as would "clues" as to a related Unique's location on the server. What do you guys think? I'll try to keep track of other ideas that the community like in this post too. Additional Suggestions/Responses: TBD - Add your views in the thread and I will collate here if they gain traction with the community!

A message different from the default "you stop leading the x" for when whatever's being led gets stuck on the corner of a wall/door and stops leading, maybe something like "x's lead gets snagged on the wooden house wall and is ripped from your grasp" so you actually know what the problem is instead of trying to figure out why your horse that's desynced 10 tiles away suddenly decided to stop or like, make them follow your movements better so they don't try to run through walls like morons

I see literally no downside except the implementation effort, which is up to the devs to decide. I think this would be a great use of tracking on Freedom and add the additional challenge some people yearn for; it'll also enable hunters to force some spawns without relying on or messing with natural spawning too much. (Tracked mobs could despawn if left alone for too long?) I think spawning Uniques is a bit OP though, no matter which skill; perhaps certain champion mobs in "final strongholds" were direct subordinates of existing uniques on the server, leaving some hint to its location? Something like Archaeology would tell you about deeds, e.g. "This hint suggests the creatures leader is located somewhere <NSWE far/nearby>".

+1 Fully support this idea. There are strong arguments against foisting certain gameplay on to others, and I believe this reaches a solid middle ground in expanding options. Hunting and tracking were disappointments when I started playing, and continue to be so. Archaeology seems to have ironed out to be a useful, and for many, enjoyable aspect. These same mechanics could be implemented in these areas as well. I would be hyped for some changes such as this.

Maybe when tracking rarely something could be found (a bloodstained cloth, a battered shield, the hilt of a shattered sword, etc). By activating these items and tracking with them a player would be led on a trail to an eventual location where the player would be 'ambushed' by a group of creatures(could vary depending on what was used to search) The object used in the search could determine the difficulty of the encounter as well as the QL of the object and the rarity. aka a very high ql supreme shattered sword could be multiple champion trolls with several normal trolls and a low quality bloodstained cloth may be a handful of cavebugs or goblins. Additionally, maybe like how forage/botanize was given multiple subcategories to search for, as your tracking skill gets higher, you could track for different things that could cause something to spawn. .

Sandstone, Marble, Slate forges, ovens, altars, coffins, tables... Could even be creative, heat faster, burn longer, hold more or other perks. Also a use for those pesky rare sandstone shards and bricks ?

Been thinking about doing that personal goal but just can't imagine pulling everything together? I've done that for you and collected up bits and pieces and can offer a complete package deal. All you will need to do is ferment the wine itself so very little work/time required. Will deliver everything to you for the all inclusive price of 45s. I can only keep this offer up for a day or two max so don't delay.

Lol that ship has sailed long ago. I totally agree that abandoned vehicles needs to be tackled with. I very much like the benefit of automated sale of them (although to be fair it could be achieved much more elegant with writs of ownership made on paper with ink that can be sold on merchant and used to reclaim vehicle). On another handed I have some wagons scattered on servers that I occasionally use for hunting and hauling corpses back to knarr, those may seem abandoned to someone but I sure wouldn't like them to be messed with, if they ever create problem I would gladly repark them on condition I am notified about it. I also think that we need to make more use for lockpicking skill on pve and this could be one of the opportunities for it, like when user haven't logged in for very long time faster decay rule applies like for houses and once it's over 70-90 dmg it could be lockpicked. Also tip for the OP, if some ships or vehicles are in the way of your deed plans I belive you can contact GM's and they would relocate the culprits somewhere near where they are not in the way

Yeah, I have no idea what you might be referring to... (these are all girls, btw) I call 5 speed grays "blanks," because of their tendency to differ the foal color to the other parent. Discovered this year-before-last, while trying to propagate jets. Ever since then, my herd has never been without em. And if you still need grey 5-speeds let me know, I think I have a few extras hanging around...

This would also be great. I love the idea of tying tracking skill more closely into hunting. The best hunters SHOULD also be the best trackers.

Update Jan 15th, 2019 at 01:54 GMT (UTC). I received an email a days ago from the Omaha, Nebraska funeral home that took care of Zorako and organized a proper burial service for him. The Chaplin apologised for the delay, but he was finally able to get down the Omaha National Cemetery recently (which is a long drive from the Mortuary to be fair) to get for us the promised photo of the proper head stone at Zorako's grave. http://prntscr.com/m6hrv4 Tom "Zorako" Hill has received a fitting head stone for his final resting place. I did send a thank you email back to the mortuary their time and effort. It was accompanied with a screen shot of the Zorako Memorial, which is located on FM East Highway, just across the road from where Zorako's village was on Independence, so show them how Wurmian's honour a fellow Wurmian, who was well respected and liked by all. My thanks to all who have shown their support during our time of loss and grieving. With a heavy heart, Hughmongus Co-Leader - The Albia Consortium (and a fellow veteran friend of Zorako).

We get it, you don't like the fishing system update. I honestly doubt knee-jerking, using hyperbole for days, and similar responses will magically make the devs decide to revert the old fishing system for you. Mount&Blade style combat would actually be cool, but this is obviously not a serious suggestion thread.

Laying our friend Zorako to rest. June 22nd, 2018 Amendment: See the end of report for a link to one of the TV stations coverage of the service which the Funeral Home was nice enough to sent me today as I was heading to the airport for my own flights home. Amendment: See the end of the below report for the link to the just received photo of the head stone monument that now marks our friend's final resting place. It was moderately warm overcast day today in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Among the 200 plus folks who turned up to say good bye to Thomas "Zorako" Hill, were three Wurmian's. Hughmongus, Zpen, and Finndar. Skyefox and Gold dust both wanted to be here but could not get the time off from their respective day jobs to attend in person. The Chaplin started Zorako's burial service by telling folks that it was the gaming community who did not give up on Zorako... that we kept pushing to ensure he got a proper burial service with proper honours for a war veteran and retired serviceman. As they could not locate an living Next of Kin for him, Finndar, Zpen and myself were put in the front row (where immediate RL family normally go). We, his friends from the gaming community, were were acknowledged as his family as he no longer had one in RL. Two local TV stations showed up cover the service and a local newspaper. They were blown away by us coming in from all over the world. From east coast of the USA, west coast of Canada and from Eastern Europe to give our good friend a proper send off. The TV press wanted an interview afterwards and asked who was the group's spokesman. Although I (Hugh) was the senior Wurmian present (one with most time in Wurm and who has known Zorako the longest), I deferred to Finndar as I felt it more appropriate that an American speak for a fellow American and answer their questions. Because of our persistence that we wanted to attend and pay our respects to our friend and see him properly laid to rest, the below appeared in local news services yesterday (Thursday evening). https://www.omaha.com/news/military/public-is-asked-to-attend-services-for-two-veterans-with/article_ceafef3e-9f68-55df-8805-6a4126ef079a.html Three different vetearan's groups and many locals turned up for the twin burial service, over 200 people. I took a few photos. I know Zpen also got some from inside the burial service itself. He will post these when he gets time to do so as he has the furthest to travel. http://prntscr.com/jy9oyn The place of the Burial Service http://prntscr.com/jy9p49 Two honour guards, a pair of US Marines for the Marine chap, a pair of US Navy ladies for Thomas. After the service we were told that if we cared to come back in a few hours his grave would be ready for visitors. So while Finndar and Zpen had to head for the airport to catch their flights home, I stayed after the service and waited until they had interred his ashes. I then visited Zorako's grave... http://prntscr.com/jy9yyv Zorakos in the back row, top of picture with flowers by his marker. I left this note http://prntscr.com/jy9o2i a personal good bye note from me and Skye and those attending, and on behave of "his Indy Family". http://prntscr.com/jy9qui Zorako's grave with temporay marker http://prntscr.com/jy9sc7 Zorako's name plate marker For friends of his who wish to stop by and leave flowers and pay their respects, Thomas "Zorako" Hill is resting now in the south corner of Section 1, per this map http://prntscr.com/jy9zrz Rest in Peace, Zorako. You will live on in our hearts and memories. With a heavy heart, Hughmongus Post Script: June 23, 2018 - here is a link sent to me by the Funeral Home, that leads to the local TV coverage of the funeral. http://www.ketv.com/article/2-veterans-honored-at-omaha-s-national-cemetery/21819448 Post Script: January 15th, 2019 at 01:54 GMT (UTC) - here is a link to the photo sent to my by the Funeral Home, of the head stone monument that now marks our friend's final resting place. http://prntscr.com/m6hrv4 Tom "Zorako" Hill has received a fitting resting place marker. I'm honestly heartbroken about how the fishing system works now. I know some people love it, and I know some people hate it, and I am honestly impressed with what the devs (R.I.P. Tich) have achieved with it. However, for my part, I miss that one activity that was so afk-able and simple in this game. I didn't get to do it much but it was relaxing and the new fishing system has not relaxed me a single bit. I'm proposing that we add the old fishing system in addition to the new one, perhaps as a new skill such as Angling, as an addition, and allowing players to fish in the way they prefer.

What the hell did you do to fishing?! My wife was always fishing a lot, and now suddenly all her fishing rods stopped working? She tried to make the new ones, but the process is so tedious, she's on the verge of selling the deed and her character... Who in the world came up with this piece of crap? It was one of the best ways to obtain quick food and feed for the animals, especially for new/low level characters, and now a mid-level character trained for many years can't even make a single fishing rod, because there's no option to craft some friggin' eyelet? When is the rollback happening? Because there must be a rollback of this disaster of a patch, right?

How could you not want alpacas? Alpacas would bring joy to our Wurm lives! Suggested habitat: Mountains and hills. Alpacas would be great mounts for mountainous areas with an increased slope climb rate (Perhaps getting stuck less than horses, similar to some WU servers) at the cost of decreased mounted speed. Alpacas would be faster than cows and bulls, but slower than horses but able to be saddled and bred, thus increasing their overall speed while still maintaining max speeds slower than horses. Besides, their bouncy runs shouldn't be underestimated!

Facts I Stole Off The Internet Alpaca vs Llama, So What's The Dif? Their ears: Alpaca ears have short spear-shaped ears while llamas have much longer, banana-shaped ears. Their size: Alpacas generally weigh in at around 150 pounds while llamas can get as heavy as 400 pounds. At the shoulder, an average alpaca stands between 34 and 36 inches, while a llama generally ranges between 42 and 46 inches. Their faces: Llamas have a longer face; an alpaca’s face is a bit more blunt, giving them a “smooshed in” look. Their purpose: For more than 5,000 years alpacas have been bred for fiber (and in Peru for meat as well), while llamas have been bred for the same amount of time as pack animals and meat. Their hair: The alpaca produces a much finer fiber than the llama. The alpaca also produces more fleece than its larger cousin and in a much greater variety of colors. Llamas also generally do not have as much hair on their head and face as alpacas do. Their dispositions: Alpacas are very much herd animals, while llamas are more independent minded. Alpacas also tend to be a bit more skittish than llamas, which are often used as guard animals for alpacas, sheep, and other small livestock. Apparently you can train alpacas to do tricks, but the more independent minded Llamas will be more likely to just spit at you. Alpacas are gentle and shy and can't protect themselves. Llamas are confident and brave and often serve as herd guards for alpaca breeders.

The reason for this issue most probably is the (inactive) highway below the bridge. The catseyes, though inactive, may prevent bashing of that bridge section. We will check later.

Remove the max capacity(or increase it) of source springs, but make it disappear, when someone empties it. Also after certain (random) time it autodisappears(to prevent someone "claiming" it by not emptying it). After it disappears, it respawns at random location on server. This way the source springs wouldn't be static source dispensers, but random "loot" you find during your exploration.. while also promoting exploration.

Not everything needs to be "According to reality" in video games. Take this example : just because you need to use the toilet in real life doesn't mean you should have to do it ingame. It's just a game...So that argument falls. Now, if you think being a reaper of kinds would be cool in the fantasy side of things, thats a good idea and shouldn't be discouraged just because its unrealistic...we have spells and dragons for crying out loud

I can't think of any other skill that forces you to read the event log for prolonged periods of time to grind it. I understand you could do the net fishing, but to my understanding, it's definitely no-where near as effective as a standard CoC fishing rod was before for skillgain. And unless it's been changed, I think you only have a 3-5 second window to snag fish, which I suppose sort of makes sense if compared to IRL, but then again, are we really striving for accuracy, or enjoyment?

Used to use the old system while doing other things, while being a very simple way to get some meals made with a new character. Forage a piece of cotton and find a single tree and it was good to go in a couple of minutes. I'd like the new system to be a buff to the old system, rather than a full replacement. Used to be relaxing, now it's a chore. Would be a fun system for catching unique/special fish, like on the special tiles or a way to boost quality. Would be interesting to see how skillgain compares, when accounting for all the extra prep time including creating/imping tools and gathering supplies.

My opinion of the new fishing is based on my alliance members comments. Made what once was a relaxing activity into something complicated. There are many aspect of this game I really love. But sometimes I wonder why the devs think they need to add so many steps to an activity. Where is the cut off between to simple and just being into pain.:P
