I am ready to submit the design. The Blackmoor Christmas impalong really took the focus and I was not able to spend as much time on planning. Madnath's help was invaluable, he helped shape this madness. https://pastebin.com/0BgeC5dM DeedPlanner is a great asset but it is unfortunately limited. Certain objects, such as barrel racks, eyes and corpses, were not available. Consider the decorations to be a rough guide on what we would want on the deed. To those without an imagination, I apologise. Thirsty Shark Tavern This building is dedicated to the brewers and drinkers of Celebration. The alcohol flows free* here and you will always have an ear to hear your tale**. Grab a seat and enjoy!*** Feel like entertaining? We have something for that. In the back of the building is a stage and chairs for a mild audience. Sing, dance, perform! Please note, we are not responsible for injuries from thrown beer steins. You perform at your own risk. * Only during happy hour which is 22:00 to 23:00, on the second day of Tears every month. ** Listener service only available to those with at least 5 orders in a single session. *** Please enjoy responsibly. Quiet Boar Inn You partied hard in the tavern and now it's time for sleep. Rent one of our luxury beds! We are required by law to inform you of a recent infestation of fleas and advise you to sleep with your clothes on. Rated 4 stars on Wurmian Advisor! The Church You wake up refreshed at our inn and you realise you made some questionable decisions in that tavern last night. Want to repent? Visit the church. Come for the confession, stay for the sermon! Still feeling those sins crawling on your back? Take a stroll through the graveyard and have an extra long pray at the shrine. The Archaeology Museum We get it, you want to know what treasures are buried deep but you don't want to get your hands dirty. Fabricant has graciously worked endlessly to create and fill a museum of archaeological discoveries! There's statues, strange runed items and not a single shred of his sanity anywhere in sight! He calls it a building of his pain and suffering which is just hilarious! A building wouldn't be able to contain all of it. Even the building looks like it is screaming, which is silly because buildings can't scream. Golden Valley Bistro Before you leave Tap Dance and begin your journey into the unknown, stop by the Bistro and grab a snack to eat! Inspired by the diets of those who lived on Golden Valley, raw fish and mushrooms are served every morning. If that's too fancy for your tastes, wait for the lunch service where we serve freshly made gulasch. The dinner service later in the day is the meal, a Wurm classic that's enjoyed by all. What meat do we use for our meals? We'll let you figure that one out. There's more to the redesign but I'll leave that for you to discover, dear reader. But I can just tell you here if you're not willing to open DeedPlanner. There's a crafting hall for those beloved smiths, a shipyard for those esteemed shipwrights, a fishing shop for those precious anglers, a library to store our precious knowledge and wagoner stations for those tolerated wagoners. If you have read this far, I assume you have not been convinced. I offer one final image to win your vote. An image of a stale meme format. Thank you for your consideration. Team Shark (Fabricant and Madnath)

The Full PvP ban is lifted. Thank you, Wurm Online Team If you find yourself falling to your death, please take a moment and choose carefully where you will die while on the way down. If you find your life flashing before your eyes on the way down and cannot see to choose a good place to die, then be comforted by the fact that you must have had a good and full life and are now free to respawn and enjoy the benefits of a new one. If on the other hand, you do not have time to reflect on your current life, then rest assured your death was quick if not painless. I was involved in the initial testing while Tich was actively working on the changes and some of the "complication" was under discussion amongst us to simplify. I do understand the struggles of taking over someone elses work and trying to make it flow without the option to reference back to them for assistance; please give this update a chance on BOTH sides as the ultimate goal that Tich had was to make changes that players could enjoy yet not be too simple to become boring. As with most every update there are kinks that must be worked out, please be patient and respectful, on all sides, and it can be worked through. 15 years of customer service here and though in concept the customer is not always right, the customer must be happy with the service or they become former customers which does not make a profitable business. Thank you.

We'll likely be tweaking a lot about fishing over the coming weeks, but one thing that I must be ABSOLUTELY clear about. This system was an overhaul of fishing to drag it away from something done while afk or idling. we understand some who used it exclusively as an afk system will be upset, but that's not going to change, the desire to bring in more interactivity and depth to this system was the driving point of all of this. Fishing was one of Tich's favourite things in this game, thus her being the first to 100 in it.

A basic fishing rod still exists, and still just uses a line and a hook, with options for bait. This means that new players can easily fish at low skill and still have the same level of interactivity, gating the interactive aspects of it arent conducive to helping new players learn fishing. The customer is not always right, and that argument does not carry any weight. As for the issues with catching delays that could be tweaked a little, bugs with damage and tackle boxes will be addressed, like every update with major features, there's usually a period of adjustment.

Full PvP Ban - 12/18/2018 ENDED - 12/23/2018 A Full PvP Ban is in effect until further notice. It seems mine doors have become very choosy about who they let in, including their own owners. Instead of overhaul, they should have retained the old fishing with some nerfs to the types of fish that can be caught the old way: skill "Basic Fishing". Then the new system of fishing with a new skill: "Sport Fishing".

For the record, I still had the rod in my hand after the break, it was the reel that broke and could not be replaced, as I had not made extra reels. With the time it took to make the first set for testing, I felt it should not break so easily and glad to see you are tweaking that. There is more that you should reconsider. One thing is hooking a fish. You have to watch the text to see something nibble, then quickly double-click. It is a level of interactive we do not have with any other skill. It forces you to play 1 character, or you not only lose the fish, you may lose your equipment. It is a bit too much in my opinion, and way too short a window between the text and missing the fish. Most of us play this game casually, and play multiple chars. This does not allow for either one, and I can tell you now to expect fishing to be left alone by a majority of the players. New players will make a net for small fish so they can survive, and leave the rest. I know Tich and the crew put a lot of effort into this, but that does not mean it was all a good idea. We will adapt, but unless you do a lot more tweaking, we will adapt by leaving the skill alone. Oh, and as to the stuff I could not find you say will generate over time. Why couldn't you have seeded that stuff like you did with artifact fragments? I especially worry about the wurms. I should be able to dig up a dirt and sort through it for wurms, no keeping tiles bare dirt and "waiting" for them to generate. Shriveled trees also do not last long, so why aren't they full of grubs as soon as they become shriveled? All trees have bark, and you don't have to wait for them to be overaged or a particular tree. And twigs, twigs are everywhere. These things were made difficult for no good reason, except to waste my time. These are more examples of how you didn't just make the skill interactive, but unnecessarily difficult. You want to know what needs tweaking, and the only way you are going to know is by our telling you.

I used to spend hours just standing at the shore idle fishing and chatting with my Wurmian friends, but this has now been taken away from me completely. I am not happy with the new changes - Wurm is a game where nothing is ever easy, and now the ONE thing that was simple has been revamped into one of the most complicated game parts. I don't see how that benefits anyone. I'm sorry but I just can't get on board.

They did announce this back when they altered the goals. That the system would get no more work becasue it was being ditched and there would be a limited time to complete the goals. I honestly thought with the 3 month limiter on it that the system was to be gone in 3 months from that point.

I spent some time over the past couple days with the new fishing system and I wanted to share my experiences so far. I haven't ever really invested much time into fishing since I started so my skill was 11 when the update came in. I started by making myself a rod, reel, line, and hook. It took a bit of thinking through the process to figure some of it out. For example, after trying to fit a metal reel into the rod with out success, I realized that the reel needs to be turned into a fishing reel first. Turned out that metal reels only make one kind of fishing reel (is it reinforced fishing reel??) and that type of fishing reel goes into a specific type of fishing rod (deepwater fishing rod??). Anyway, after mucking about with the different types of components, I settled on making a light fishing rod with a light fishing reel and a light line. It seems like all of these components have to match (ie the all have to be "light") in order to add them together. I was hoping that we would be able to mix and match these to a certain degree to increase the potential options. I made a wooden hook, mostly so that I could continue imping it as I was out by the water, and headed out to find some bait and a float. I found several shriveled trees and about 1 out of 5 of them had grubs. I used a low ql awl (all that I had on me at the time) and was happy to see that I was getting more than one grub per tree. I also grabbed any bark off of the birch trees in the area, also about 1 in 5 trees had some bark. Finally, I searched any dirt tile I saw for wurms (yes, they are spelled this way in the game) and was having good luck with the dirt tiles near the water, about 1 in 3 tiles had a wurm. However, each tile only gave one wurm . After collecting, I had 4 pieces of bark, 6 grubs and 7 wurms. I readied my rod, positioned myself next to a statue of Tich, and cast the line into the water. It took a few attempts and some asking in CA help to figure out that I needed to wait for the text in the Event window, then left click to hook the fish and wait for the fish to either be reeled in or escape. After my first successful fish (a 0.05kg roach), I checked my skill and it was already almost 13! I thought that was insane fast gains. I started keeping track of when the gains occur. It seems like you start gaining skill after you hook a fish and you get multiple ticks during the time that you are reeling in the fish. A single fish could potentially give you a ton of skill if it takes a while to reel it in. There was one fish that gave me 10 ticks. After about 30 mins of fishing, my skill went from 11 to 17. In total I caught 7 fish (i think), 3 of which I used as bait. The other 4 were all tiny. As for this poll, I chose that I like the system. What I like about it is that I have to learn new things, ask the community questions, struggle, and ultimately am rewarded for my efforts through skill gain and fish caught. There are areas that I think need a bit of improvement, and I am sure the devs are looking at how they can tweak the system to make sure that its flow is optimized. Here are a few things I found that need attention: Wurms and Grubs could probably use an increase in numbers. I understand that as time goes on, more tiles/trees will receive them, but I think that each tree/tile needs to produce more than 1 or 2 of them. Since bait gets used up so quickly, one will need a lot of it for extended fishing trips. The 3 minute timer after casting is too long. I know the devs wanted a more interactive system, however, waiting potentially 2+ mins for the event message is excessive. I often found that my attention drifted away during that time waiting for the message which caused me to miss it, even though I was trying my best to keep my focus on it. I suggest that the the time it takes for a fish to arrive should be something like 20 seconds, give or take. This would probably also require lowering the skill gain per tick to compensate and keep the overall skill gain in a given session the same. The reaction time required to click the button should be increased. As it was, even when I saw the message the moment it was posted, I still missed the window of opportunity a few times simply because my reaction time was not good enough. I feel like I am above average when it comes to my personal reaction time, and do not have too much difficulty with fps games like overwatch, so I could see how some people could get frustrated with not being able to hook a fish at all due to reaction time alone, especially after waiting 2 mins for the chance. There needs to be added incentive to engage in fishing. More potential resources (eg. Fish oil, eyes and other animal bits etc) would help. I hear clams and pearls are a thing....and I did have a clam nibble on my line. More stuff like this would get people more motivated to put in the effort required to fish. All in all, I really do like the system. I was thoroughly engaged with it and look forward to experimenting with it more. I think I know what this week's stream is going to be!

Relying on RNG to get skillgain so you can become better able to get skillgain is bad design, and that's what this sounds like. On the other hand, since you've added a twitch component to fishing, I almost feel like skill and skillgain should be irrelevant: you've deliberately shifted the skill to the player's mousework, materials preparation, and knowledge of fish. Right now, it sounds like you could completely disconnect fishing from the skillgain system. I'm reminded of the fishing system in Stardew valley: entirely dependent on player (not toon) skill, knowledge, and fishing rod QL. I also note that while bait would wear out in Stardew Valley, your fishing rod never would. Loading the fishing system with repetitive chores invariably decreases fun (why isn't fun the primary design goal?) As far as I'm concerned, the only things that should break in the fishing system are items that can be created at high QL. Randomly breaking imped items will doom the system.

It is overly complicated and probably serves well to pander to some people that would enjoy it, imping their reels and hooks and sinkers and going out with a tacklebox. What I can't understand is why the old method was completely removed. You don't always need hundreds of dollars worth of competition equipment to fish. Sometimes just a stick with a line and a hook does the job just fine. Not everyone is an enthusiast fisherman, some people are just trying to survive.

Just a few bugs relating to coops: 1. After building the coop, you have to relog to even get the "Load animal" option. 2. You don't get the "Secure" or "Plant" option after building/loading the coop. 3. You can set the permissions after building but will have to reset all permissions after logging as they will have disappeared. 4. You can't drag water from a fountain straight into the barrel of the loaded chicken coop. You have to carry/move the water first from a fountain into a separate container then drag it from that container into the coop. 5. You can only load one chicken at a time, meaning if you have four being lead you won't get the "Load animal" option until you let three go. You then have to load the chicken, catch another (which is a Herculean feat), load it, etc.

We have been clear since the changes to the personal goal system that they would be removed, and if you wished to complete them you'd be better off doing it sooner than later. The journal system is the replacement for the personal goals, providing structure and goals as well as rewards for achieving those goals. the first five stages are in with another round due early in the new year. Since informing people that the personal goals system would go, we did say we'd provide at least a months warning, and have given plenty of opportunity to complete them, as of now they've been attainable for 7 months, and by the time of their removal it will be near 9 months. If you've left it to the last minute there's still a little bit of time to do so.

There have been many seasons since the announcement of removing the goals system, never leave your homework until the last night! It is possible to harvest more than enough in one season if you want it bad enough and considering that the 3 month barrier was implemented to limit alts I doubt that the lack of prem is up for discussion.

In the tutorial screens concerning climbing mode, there is a text which says "Enable climbing mode by pressing NO_BIND .." , similarly in subsequent window. I assume that in some clients or OS (maybe Windows) a key is bound to TOGGLE_CLIMB while it is not in others (e.g. Linux Distributions or MacOS). It is somewhat confusing, especially for new (thought about, might be rather a client side problem, sorry) Btw., the menu bar on top of the screen is not activated for new players. Only those knowing it will have the idea to enter hud settings and activate it.

One more thing: At the moment, it appears that rewards for fishing were not altered. Thus the update, however well-intentioned, looks to the customer like a great deal of extra work for the same result. Unhappy customers shouldn't be a surprise. In a sense, the fishing update is only half an update: you changed the fishing inputs, but not the outputs. I'd recommend to the developers that -whenever- they make an existing system more complex, they also update the rewards. If you change both at the same time, customers are much less likely to see the change as more work for the same result, and they'll be far more likely to be excited to try it (see archaeology updates).

I'm finally finding tiles where I get the menu option Nature - Search for wurms. When I do it I get this message: [09:45:27] You do a rain danec on the dirt tile and a wurm pops to the surface, which you grab. That's cute, but incredibly stupid. Like I said, all I should need to do is dig up a dirt and search it for wurms. RL worms are everywhere, especially in cultivated soil like a garden or farm. Worms are the true rulers of the earth, they make the soil arable so you can grow crops and live. They turn over the entire surface of the earth to 6 inches deep every year, very slowly. They are as common as dirt and should be just as easy to find. I should not be waiting for them to "spawn" on tiles.

Do I still need to click on the "Basic fishing rod"? Because if I do, it's exactly the same as the other one. I LOVE the new fishing system when it comes to the new fishing methods (net, spear, the new multi part fishing rod with the floats and baits), skills, crafting, preparation for the actual fishing, The Tackle Box, keep nets etc. Everything is just great for me! I like the complexity there. But when it comes to fishing it self I HATE it. I'm fishing in RL and I never broke a Fishing Pole in my life. To spend several hours imiping a rod and line, and everything just to brake after the 4th fishing attempt (as another player reported) it's more than frustrating. Also regarding the fishing with the Fishing Pole it self - I think that I'm doing everything right and as you explained it, but I'm ending in the exactly the same situation as Hailian below. I see that some of the devs are WoW players and like that system in there, but this clicking on the float it's not something that works in Wurm and that it's liked by most of the players (as we can see from the poll). And Actually most of the players that said here that they like the new system, never ended actually fishing themselves in Wurm. after the new patch. Exactly my experience! Didn't catch single thing!

Yes, we should definitely stop him doing that, and please can we go back to the days of zero warning of any changes at all until they land, and zero explanation or feedback on how things are supposed to work. And I'll be ending my subscription unless the devs do exactly what I want, and kowtow to my aggressive pointing out of every little thing I don't like. Or not.

i dislike it. i liked the ability to mostly afk it while watching a movie or doing other random things, sometimes just stuff i had to do on an alt as well. the only good thing about the fishing update so far that i've seen is the ability to fillet fish and get skill, that's a good thing. many people were asking for this for ages. i for one don't understand why you would want to scrub the actually important info. i wont be giving this system a chance before it comes to WU, simply because i'm absolutely not interested to spend hours micromanaging the ###### out of an unnecessarily high number of sub components only to find out that the chance for them to break is over the top for the only fish i would be interested in.
  38. 2 points
cool but most people won't care, and any "new players" will never care what people do continue to care about is the complete destruction/remodeling of game mechanics that people have used for 15 years that are no longer available going forward there are tons of these cases and fishing isn't the first, and definitely won't be the last the very core of this game is BORING, get over it, thats one of the reasons why we have sub 250 active unique players in a game with so much potential whats next? can't mine on the same vein for more than 15 minutes at a time? can't imp at the same forge for 15 minutes at a time? can't chop the same wood type for more than 15 minutes at a time? whats so hard about implementing a leisurely way to skill gain these skills at like a 30-40% reduced rate in order to appeal to both sides?
  39. 2 points
Absolutely agree, there was a document with more information but it contained a lot of the technical stuff, we'll be scrubbing the tech stuff and a bit of the flavour for public availability. Sorry that's not done yet, but the initial fishing part is fairly simple once you get the hang of it, we'll be working on reducing some of the harder to figure out stuff (like high difficulty fish you'll never catch popping up)
  40. 2 points
WRONG!! When you decide that the customer isn't right, you lose a customer. I went through this before with Rolf. It got me a 30 day ban from the forums for arguing with him. But you know what? I was right, everyone else was just as upset about that update back then, and it got reversed, like I said needed to be done. I'm not trying to be nasty, I was actually looking forward to this update. But there are issues with it, and if you do not listen to us and fix them, you will lose players. Not all of us want to have something as simple as fishing take so much concentration to do. As to the basic fishing rod, it is more than it used to be, and if they still have to watch and double click at just the right moment, it isn't the same as it used to be either. I have to go along with what others are saying. leave fishing as it was, add in the new skill sport fishing for all this new equipment.
  41. 2 points
This forum chat is all about the problems with this update, so right now it makes more sense to keep all the problems here. As to the all cap at the end of a sentence, it saves me from having to make a separate post to you (It got your attention, didn't it?) As to having to pay attention, it may not be a bug, but the way it works now is a mistake compared to the other skills. Telling us we have to accept it is forgetting one thing, we are the customer, and we are saying we do not like it. Have you ever heard of the old saying, the customer is always right?

One thing I do wish to point out in regards to all of this, this was a system worked on by Tich who spent a lot of time encouraging wurm systems to be in depth and expansive. Fishing going from afk to interactive is a big change, and for those (who it seems are mostly the ones who afked it) it's going to be a large change to get used to. I saw the same complaints about the cooking system, where suddenly you had to work out which ingredients you could use instead of throwing it all into a pan, and you had to put more time and effort into getting optimum results so it's no surprise it's happening here, but I'm sure you all remember there was a period of both us tweaking and players adjusting their comparisons vs the old system, after that making it much easier to enjoy. Give it time, relax. After all, it's not about catching the fish in the end, is it? a simple little guide is: Right-click on a tile (or boat) to get option to start fishing. A timer starts waiting for you to cast. You cast by moving the mouse and when the circle is non-red, left-click to cast at that spot. 2nd timer starts (3 mins) during this time the following can happen After a delay, a fish will appear and swim to the hook where it will take a bite (the float bobs up and down as well as the line moves). You have a limited time to try to hook the fish. If you manage to hook a fish it will try to get away, during this time you may see the fish moving away from or closer to you. If the fish gets too far away, it will escape. If the fish gets close to you, it will be caught. There is a possibility for the line to snap (you will loose anything that was on the line as well). If you tried and failed to hook the fish, your fishing session is over. If you did not try to hook the fish, it will swim away, and after a delay another will turn up.

Ok, now I have made all the rods and went fishing. Tried all the rods, found most can be used from the shore, except for the professional rod and reel. Took it out to sea, used it 4 times and the reel broke. That reel took too much work to make and imp to 75 to have it break so easily. They should not be so fragile, change it back to just the line breaking. I'm imping everything over 90 now, and if it breaks again I'm out on fishing. Chlodovech is right, you took this from one extreme to the other. What the hell were you thinking? FIX IT!

I haven't actually gotten to fishing yet, still making and imping all the equipment so I can test. But I already have some complaints. 1. Grubs should not be that hard to find. I searched out to find over 100 shriveled trees and only managed to get grubs from 2 of them. They are BAIT, they should be easy to get. It is the fish that should be difficult. 2. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to find wurms on dirt tiles. tried every tool I had, no option to find wurms. No pick wurms option in the menus, nothing from forage or Botanize either. Again, they are bait and should be easy to get. 3. I've checked over 100 bushes, all types, and cannot find a twig. IRL I can go out in my yard right now and find twigs, and I don't have to look under any trees or bushes. A twig should not be hard to find. 4. I've made most everything, and now imping all the parts. The entire rod-reel-line-hook arrangement is more complicated than it needs to be for a game. I have to worry about all the parts wearing down at different rates and replacing them. The old line and pole maintenance was enough. 5. All in all I feel it has become complicated enough that it is a game unto itself. If you want to get good at it now you have to devote ALL your time to it and ignore the rest of the game. And I'm saying this as someone with 99.70 fishing skill already, so it doesn't make much difference to me on skillgain. You have made it unnecessarily complicated to cater to a small group that would enjoy it that way. Look at how much you can take out to make this more simple to do. That's all I have for now. After I get to really do some fishing with all these rods, reels, nets, etc. I'll let you know what I think of that.

tbh , pets in Wurm need a massive rework. Every kind of animal. Taming them just makes them sit in one particular spot and not ever do anything again. I find this quite disturbing dont you? Also when it's tamed, its attacked by every living monster under the sun.
