Ok then, if never-turn-into-weeds crops are not going to happen how about the ability to *enchant crops*. This would work the same way as enchanting grass and use that Path of Love level ability with the same requirements. Lets say the crops would need to reach the Ripe stage and then they could be enchanted which would freeze them in that state. The (Ripe) notation on the crops would then be replaced by (Enchanted). Animals would then also be able to graze on them with the same ability as enchanted grass. They could not be harvested after being enchanted but could be removed in the same way as enchanted grass. Perhaps their soil color could have a very slight greenish tint then but not so deep green as enchanted grass, or the soil color could remain the same. In all other ways enchanted crops would look like regular crops but just have the (Enchanted) label. This would seem a good idea to me as it both gives another use for the PoL enchant and the requirements make it so that it would be very time consuming to enchant vast farms. That being rather pointless anyway as the crops could then not be harvested. Still, enchanted crops would probably be used on a smaller scale as well for their permanent decorative effect. This may also create more of a demand for enchanting services or at least needing to have a Premium character who has this ability. Mainly I see this as a nice alternative for animal grazing and deed crops decoration. =Ayes=

@Niki I am a very social person. I have been playing online and doing most of my social interactions for the past two decades through chat rooms/voice chat (other than work.) I am also a very curious person and I often try to understand why people behave online the way they do. Here is what I have learned over the years. 1) The online social interactions have changed a lot. Back in early 2000, voice chat was not a thing. Everyone communicated through text for the most part. Sure some guilds had their voice comms such as ventrilo, but they were not widely used. In fact, I went through nearly a decade of FFXI never even hearing the voice of my best friends. I only knew them through their avatars and their text. Now everything is different, but many of us who grew with the text based culture have clinged to it more than the many milenials who play games nowdays for whom voice comms was integral to their gaming. 2) The text client in Wurm is pretty terrible. The letters are tiny and complicated to resize, and many of us arent that young anymore. I struggle to see what the heck text here says. Since I spend most of my time on voice comms with friends, I simply don't read local or game chat. At all. You can ask Gladiator and Deskjet how many times they have wasted their effort with sending me PMs. I don't realize I have been pm'd until hours later. Now they know better and just ping me on discord. 3) Some people are not forum persons. They only go to the forums to buy something or to look for information, if that. I know friends who have hundreds of pms waiting to be read because they don't know/care about it. 4) Perhaps they don't speak english. This game brings communities who are not english speakers. At one point I had a chinese guy living next to me. He never responded to my greetings and acted the most strange of ways around my deed. Until one day he said "no english china". 5) Some people just want to see the world burn. Maybe a friend of him told him one of those stories about you. Or maybe someone somewhere complained about one of your sales and they swore eternal hate towards you. Some people are just plain dumb or don't give a rats ass. 6) They could be botting. Maybe the person doesn't respond because they aren't there. Regardless, there are many reasons why the person doesn't respond that have nothing to do with being rude or hating you. My suggestion to you is don't take it personal. Keep in mind this is a game, and people can't hear you type. If they are sitting on their keyboard pressing their "dig" key while watching Netflix, there is a very high chance they won't see your pm until hours after the fact.

Sometimes you've driven your cart/horse straight through a wall, or things just aren't where they should be, and you need to completely relaunch the client. A simple command to forcefully disconnect and reconnect would make it a lot easier to deal with.

There is as much need for sigs on fences as there is on houses, its none of your business who built it, unless it is blocking access to your deed or a building off deed, then that falls into the category send in a support ticket. That is pretty much a cut and dry case. If the fence is off deed and you don't like it there is a easy means to remove them with no need to cry over it, just do it.

Yeah... Dialogue with the -1ers isn't terribly likely, always kind of unfortunate but no longer surprising. /shrug. I have no problem at all letting people know what I've built. Not out to bother anyone, anywhere, so... +1. In fact, if my fence did cause another player issues, I'd rather they have the ability to contact me and have a friendly chat about it. Not rocket science.

I'm playing Wurm in a passionately passive way, meaning my clients run on tiny windows arranged on one screen while I do other stuff on the other screen. This makes me miss a lot that's going on. One of my previous neighbors found it quite amusing to see if I'll answer in her passing by with a wave or not (I'd like to say it was about 50:50, but I may be even more scatterbrained than that.), and we became good acquintances eventually. I don't think we would have interacted as much outside of exchanging greetings (Small things like you give me X, I give you Y at some other ocasion, little favors that aren't treated as trades but mutual benefits and favors) if she had got offended over my doing other things. I do reckon the person in your particular story really seemed to go out of their way to ignore you, but wether or not it's a prolonged phenomenon, this isn't worth getting personally insulted over it, because it's either not concerning you personally or as Etherdrifter said, they aren't worth your time. And probably don't want to be. And nobody has an obligation to be "worth your time", aswell. I don't mean to be the ###### you maybe think I am for not having greeted back once(Which I don't mean in a facetious way, it may have happened knowing myself), but the whole premise of this post seems really misguided, because it's literally a non-issue imho, let alone a major one. And if you think this diminishes how great the community is, try playing in one where you'd wish people could shut up for once. I'll take the silent stranger any day over a toxic loudmouth.

This is great where nobody needs the landscape left as it is, but it could be potentially problematic to public infrastructure that is used but not deeded. For example huge scale one-off community projects like canals would need protecting somehow long-term, so that the sides do not collapse rendering the canal impassable by some boats. We can not deed the whole canal. We would need to mark the whole length for preservation in some way. The higher level players that create this kind of infrastructure usually move on in the belief that it was a tough job that won't need to be done again. What we don't want is a huge maintenance burden on the little guys that use the canal every day to get to their deeds, long after the infrastructure was put in place for them.

As some of you may know I and friends worked on the Glasshollow Linton Highway for most of last year. After that I have had this little project on the side, namely a tunnel straight forth to south from the bridge system that leads across the bay.. With some help from a few friends I have now made all the initial work but the veins remain to mine out before it can be catseyed. It is strongwalled and paved and open for manual traffic. The tunnel starts at the coastal deed Lavender Bridge (J10) and ends at the inland deed K Ten Project (K10). Both deeds are connected and findeable on the highway system and community map. South end connects to the hwy that leads from West Coast to Hell Hound Trail and Linton. This tunnel and bridge system makes up for a nice long straight afk drive thru 3 tiles of the map, from center of H10 to center of K10. There is a total of 49 17 veins in the way of the catseyeing, with some additional goodies on the sidewalls. I would very much welcome skilled miners and tunnel makers to come help me finish this tunnel and open it for wagoners! (If you come, and mine out a vein, please post so we can scratch it from list! ) Here is an updated list of the remaining 14 veins that are still in the way of catseyeing: iron 97ql 9839 sandstone 66ql 7829 iron 90ql 5764 iron 78ql 4255 tin 77ql 8552 iron 74ql 8840 sandstone 48ql 9309 sandstone 43ql 9122 sandstone 51ql 7631 sandstone 28ql 7025 iron 42ql 7526 sandstone 78ql 5178 sandstone 65ql 7414 sandstone 21ql 8438 sandstone 81ql 9580 sandstone 77ql 8818 iron 93ql 5636 ( on the K10 deed) There are still other viens on the sidewalls, the updated list is in the spoiler. Also, I have no idea how much still remains in the veins, the numbers are what was in them from start. I'd be happy if someone came and prospected them for exact numbers!

You do realize all this talk about people "crying," which comes across and is likely completely meant as pejorative, just as easily applies to you. For instance, you're crying over a name on a fence. Think about that. It's your name, and you're crying over it. Why are you crying over your name appearing on a fence, that you built, with good intentions? The issue is much like this thread. You build a fence. It's in my way. Rather than give a hoot about anyone else, I just pummel it, because I only care about me. You come along, see your fence has been pummeled. You only care about you, so you rebuild. Up the QL this time. Maybe put a second fence. I come back along, I see that nuisance of a human being has only cared about himself when clearly the world revolves around me, so I pummel the fence. yadda yadda. Your world is very tiring, inefficient, and just generally a pain in the arse. Me, I'd much rather just have a chat with someone before getting into all that wasted time above. Presumably someone built that fence for a good reason.

I was watching the faction fight video on the sneak peek on the new tutorial. Now the basic idea is to teach new players the game. With that said everyone has different learning styles, ext. I was a little surprised there was no text to speech option. Maybe something to think adding one day.

I'm not speaking in any official capacity, but having attended impalongs as imper, and Shrimpiie's in particular: 1) I always used my own tools, and have never seen them being provided. That'd probably be too much overhead. If you lack a tool, someone may have spares though, I think it's best to make sure you're fully armed though. 2) Since they are your own tools, and your own time that you spend pro bono, I think that's up to your discretion. I use me best tools to imp as many tools as possible, but if you wish to use skiller tools and be slower but get more gains, who are we to tell you not to... (Unless you become unreasonable slow and inefficient due to fails and interfere with faster impers? That's a nuance I'd refer to Shrimpiie for.) 4) There's usually a team of priests who use the teamchat to coordinate the cooldowns. Those are 3 hours for everyone individually, at the same time a listener has a cooldown of 30 minutes. That means one sermon is held every half an hour, and you yourself can hold one every 3 hours. In teams of less than 6 (active) priests, it is important to pay attention to your own cooldown and not be tempted to sermon too early, giving you no gains and resetting the cooldown again (I think?). Ingame timers are your friend. A queue of names is maintained and copypasted throghout the team chat, usually using "/me" for highlighting. The next sermon time is announced as "xx:<mm>", denoting the minutes when to start. (It's literally just 'x' for the hours because it's different timezones and they'd just be confusing. They only look at minutes.) Just get invited by someone around the altars, ask to be added to the list, the coordinator ought to post an updated version with you appended at the end or inserted into a free slot in between. The coordinator ought to call out priests on their turn if they don't react, but if they do, they should announce that they start sermoning in the team chat (Also via /me). When you are done with a sermon, post the line of your faith gain from the event tab, and make sure your settings will allow for them to show. It's nice to see how well the gains are, but it's primarily to know the precise time when to do the next sermon, as it is in everyone's interest to utilize the time as tightly as possibly. An updated list should then be posted with the next sermon time infront, with your name moved to the end of the queue. Also, in the spirit of using the time efficiently, if you go AFK please let the coordinator know so they don't have to ask 5 minutes for your and then move you at the end of the queue, although sometimes people are nice and just bump you to the next slot if it was at all possible to just let the next person do the sermon. (Depends on their cooldown.) For 3) and 5) I don't presume to speak or have literally no say in it.

Firstly, holy smokes what an amazing presentation of all the info and rules! Little icons and everything. Magnificent work! If that says anything about how well the actual impalong will be organized, this seems like a cannot-miss event! I'm getting my stuff packed and will be on my way soon. Some newbie questions from an inexperienced impalonger: 1) Do I use my own tools to help with imping or are some provided? 2) If I'm meant to use my own tools to imp, should I bring my very best tools or my worst ones? 3) If the item I brought to be imped gets destroyed during the enchantment process, am I allowed to put a -new- item of the -same type- "into the cycle of improvement and enchantment"? Just wondering because we are not allowed duplicates. But what if I really really need a good hammer for instance. 4) Could someone remind me of how sermons work? I've only been to one once and can't remember. 5) Lastly, could I get a room please!

So watching the fishing video, while it looks way more fun than the current system a huge concern was raised for me. The biggest problem with the current system is fish are essentially useless. They aren't a good food for HFC grinding nor are they used in any top tier recipes like full house pizza. So if I am doing more work per fish it might be more fun, but what is the take away in the end? Hopefully this is something you've already considered but if not it is something you need to. To this end I suggest a couple things: 1. Fisherman's stew Oven + Cauldron + Stock + ONE OR MORE Any fish (Whole grilled, diced, steamed etc.) + ONE OR MORE Any veg (chopped) + OPTIONAL salt People would actually make this as listed because it can be made in a cauldron (64kg capacity) and easily allows for 30 ingredients meaning FHP level affinity timers. As a liquid though it has alternate storage options. Primarily it can be stored in a sealed barrel and you can fill waterskins from the barrel/reseal as you need it. This is a highly useful storage with the downside it must be contained within a container at all times. So people would actually use this recipe but there would still be benefits to using FHP. 2. New recipes using things only found through fishing. Things like pearls could be added as ingredients extractable from things found while fishing meaning there is a certain value in fishing for the sake of unique crafting materials.

Out of curiosity, how would say an erosion of 1-2 slope every 2 or 3 months in an untouched area of land negatively effect any active players new or old? Imo WO would benifit from a system similar to the one Sindusk demonstrates for experienced players, returning players and new players alike. There's many ways to look at implementing a system like it to avoid destroying old areas players enjoy visiting or passing through on occasion.

I agree about people having different learning styles and I think a text to speech is something that could be very helpful for some people rather than having the first impression be that the game is just frustrating. Also on the subject of a new tutorial, I saw one WU server that had an interesting approach to the learning curve in their starter town. Along the walkway from the spawn point were various "stations" with a sign for what it was about and then the player had the option to try it out if they chose to, such as how to dig, chop down a tree, make a kindling, start a fire, dig a clay, make a bowl, cook a meat, etc. I remember when I started, the tutorial did include a few such things but it got removed. Still, it was very helpful to me. Also on a personal note, I think things like hands-on milking a cow and things like that would be helpful. Not so much that it's something they'd need to learn immediately but for getting across the idea of the kinds of things they can do for their first impressions of the game. When I started, it was the little things like that that grabbed my interest. It seems so silly now, but I was so wowed when my friend handed me a bucket and told me to try out milking a cow. Rather than just being told we can milk cows, it was the hands-on experience, the sound of milking, the resulting bucket of milk, then being able to turn it into a cheese, I was like Oh Wow, how cool is this. lol. Yeah, silly now to be so impressed by milking a stupid cow and making cheese, but it contributed to my first impressions of Wurm and my getting hooked early on, which is (or should be, I would think), the goal of a tutorial and newbie experience in the first place.

A simple enough idea, no clue how hard to implement. Old deeds and roadways, unused and unseen to be slowly weathered away. Old teraformed land with high slopes, gradually have dirt slide down after not seeing any players for a set period of time. Deeds and roads disapearing back into the landscape for new players to explore. Imo the littered landscape keeps new players from enjoying what wurm is. Run in the forest and make it your own.

I quite like what Sindusk described. (I feel like I'm repeating myself... just said the same thing in another suggestion thread) As long as there is an option to prevent it from happening. Pave the sides, for example. Eventually the pavement will disappear so something that has long been abandoned will be subject to this erosion, while spires that see active use remain unaffected. Making your "permanent" mark on the landscape is a stretchable concept anyway. At any point a player could come along and change it. Sacrificing this aspect, which only works depending on your definition of "permanent" is a small price to pay for the ability to actually move around in certain areas in my opinion.

Since the mod was brought up (the one I made for exactly this purpose), I feel it's valid to provide some context. Basically, when I first generated the map for my unlimited server, it was riddled with horrible bumps and hills all over the terrain. It looked incredibly unnatural and was terrible to travel across. 10 slope up, 13 slope down, 11 slope up again. It was miserable. After some time, I managed to design a system that would naturally terraform the ground back into a more natural state by detecting severe deformities. It does this by moving dirt using logical amounts of slope differential between two sides. If you're looking at a hill that's 10-15 slope each tile up to the top, it's going to be entirely unaffected. If someone digs a 20 slope ditch on a single tile corner, the system would detect that and start moving dirt from the top down into the pit. It's actually somewhat difficult to describe how the system works, but it doesn't just "flatten" the world or make it look miserable. It also doesn't impact building sites, it doesn't work on deeds, and since its implementation there have been no complaints about the map terrain or existence of the system. The best way to describe it is probably a demonstration. This is the gif I used when I posted the patch notes to my server:

I am not for "unused" road pavements gradually decaying away since whoever codes this must determine what "unused" actually is. There was and maybe still is some code that does this already but I really don't even like that because if you travel down some of these "unused" roads you will find that they lead to some interesting places. I particularly remember doing this years ago on Independence where seldom used (the term I prefer) roads led down to peaceful abandoned coastlines or remote high mountain perches that were previously settled by others. Even these remnants of old settlements only indicated by terraformed areas are intriguing to ponder and sit awhile within their tranquility undisturbed by the presence of others. Now with archeology those who use it can even get some indications of what had been there long ago. I would not like to see some game mechanic erode all this past away. It is easy enough for players to remove or transform these places if they for some reason object to them. So as always I am a No to this type of eradication of the past for the sake of convenience. =Ayes=

A nice idea Seriphina. I think 100 rares to create 1 rare bone when sacrificed seems reasonable as it will take quite a long time to amass that amount and it will finally reward those with something more useful who save them for this purpose. I don't see the need for a metal altar to be used though as any type should be good enough. It will take up a lot of alt storage though, heh. =Ayes=

I really hate seeing the phrase "damaging to the economy".... Asking the players of a long-term game like Wurm to risk massive amounts of time and effort on RNG is, in my perspective, abusive and disrespectful. I'm not blaming you for your point of view, but I consider it penny-wise and pound-foolish. If it were my game, all critical RNG would only be for success, not failure (like rarity). If the game needs item/enchant sinks, make them fun, not ragequit-inducing. In short, lack of players is -far- more damaging to the community and economy than players actually having fun enchanting.

A name on a fence does not help you bash it faster; does not help you fly over it, or walk through it; all it does is tell you who that ass was. And then what? You curse them in chat? You're still going to have to bash it old style, or open a ticket. Same as now. Nobody's defending the griefers. I'm defending my freedom to remain anonymous when I want to build a fence around my deed and not have people know I live there.
  47. 1 point
You dont own a mission structure so theres no victim to blame. You think people wants the name of whoevers fencing it so they can be friends or something? No that persons going to be abused verbally because he pissed people off, and then we'll have a victim to blame. Theres building a 1x1 shack theres tracking theres being in local theres bashing walls theres war machines theres terraforming to a high slope, theres so many options that already work just fine yet people are too lazy to find who to yell at or take any attempt to prevent it so they ask for this dumb suggestion
  48. 1 point
Literally could just build a 1x1 shed next to it and leave it unlocked and the griefer will get banned if he blocks the shed off. People aren't defending their actions, they're saying to stop being lazy and use the systems in the game that you have access to. It's off deed so its not owned by anyone and blocking with fences is allowed. All this suggestion would do in this case is start witch hunts against someone because they don't agree with what they're doing, not that a 1 skill alt could put the last part on, so it doesn't even do what its intended to do.
  49. 1 point
With all the alts in this game, how do you really tell who the structure belongs to? If I build a shrine and fence, is that ok? If my alt builds a shrine, but I fence it with main, is that ok? What if I sell the alt, can I keep the fences up? If I deed over a shrine I had not built, is it ok to fence off my deed and the shrine within? Point being, the griefing rule is in place and if you find yourself in a "I'm being griefed!" situation, then each case should be reviewed separately. You can't generalize it like "This fence is not allowed because I want to get to the other side, now!" Besides, if someone really wants to grief you like that, then the name on the fence is really not helping to solve the issue. Off the top of my head, build the fence 99% and add last piece with trash alt. What would the name label say?

There is a place in the sandbox for open douchery, it's called PvP servers where, if you go out of your way to antagonize other players, they can go out of their way to antagonize you. On PvE, that kind of stuff is hiding behind mechanics to take away from other players' experience, hurting the game as a whole. Furthermore, allow me to enlighten you: Play Nice Or We Will Rip Your Heart Out (griefing)Definition: Activities that are not constructive and with deliberate intent to do harm to others.A ) You may not block access to deeds, merchants, or structures not belonging to you.
