Hi Everyone, As you may all know, with the release of coloured horses there was a bug in which some grey horses changed colour to gold buckskin (they were clearly as excited as you all were). To address this we did a quick patch that reset the new colour traits to grey. The intention was for this to only run once upon the patch and then it would be removed, but with todays maintenance restart it ran again, which removed existing newborn horse colours too. Fixing this may prove to be slightly difficult to do with code or an update, so the GM team is attending tickets to manually reset horse colours for any turned grey. In the meantime we will be doing a restart to remove the offending piece of code to ensure it does not happen again. To apologise for this incident we will be giving out an extra 5 hours sleep bonus to all players, as usual passing the 5 hour cap up to 10 hours if necessary. We thank you all for your patience while we handle tickets and return the horses to their new colours! Retrograde & the Dev team Edit: With a second restart sleep bonus has been set to an additional 5 hours, everyone should be at 10 hours now.

There will be information posted on this event, however we can see what was what in this case and will do our best to assist those affected. If possible, put in a support ticket with the name of the horse, deed, or location on the server that it can be found. Along with the color that was lost. We will check its info and confirm if it is missing its color.

Like the almanac, but for horses (or animal being bred) When a foal is born (or maybe before second young stage?), you take your reed pen, some dye and some paper over. Examine. On the paper, it lists: Traits... with a line appearing through it later if genesis is cast. Like this. Date of birth... with updated lifestage** Weight (random) Coloring Hot/Warm/Cold blooded Parents in green ink if alive... appearing in red ink later if parent dies. A picture of the foal. Could perhaps include a "set price" but not sure if that's pushing it. Might be nice for it to serve as sales catalog though. Also allows extended breeding histories. **courtesy of Brash_Endeavors

I beg to differ as I have personally been watching some new 1x servers flourish, while faster paced ones disappear after a period. Besides Mystic Highlands, which does quite well and is usually one of the top three servers, the newer Scarlet Cove and Stone Peaks both seem off to good solid starts with smaller but respectable sized communities. The 1x servers seem better at keeping players who want to commit to a long term experience (not everyone does, as some want only a 20-day addiction fix). We need a good variety and frankly we do have quite a lot of faster paced servers (people rip through those quickly though and generally do not stay as long, at which point you have an abandoned server littered with dead deeds). In any case, best for each server admin to go with the ruleset philosophy that they feel most happy with.

"We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are, One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." Ulysses - Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1809 - 1892 Hehe. My so favourite verse. Not part of your kingdom, but it's nice to see you sticking together both in good and in bad times. What a very sad morning I certainly hope the dev staff has a way to bring back the colors to the foals born this week as it was so exciting and happy an event ... Often you can find a Events.txt log file, under players and logs, that will record and confirm the original color, would look like this and would also include any traits you are able to read: [18:56:14] A foal skips around here merrily. [18:56:14] She has a normal build. [18:56:14] This creature could use some grooming. [18:56:14] Its colour is blood bay. [18:56:14] Her mother is an aged fat horse. Her father is an old fat horse. (But some people might not have logs toggled on.) If they are not able to revert back via a patch, it would be nice if GMs were allowed to "restore" these foals to their proper color for players who submitted a /support ticket. Certainly some people could try to "fake" an events log notice but since none of us really know whether head GMs have access to this data, and since lying about it might be a bannable offense, I think people would generally stay honest as a new color foal is not worth a ban -- given time they will all be a dime a dozen. The "in the field" GMs might not have access to the same tools, but could perhaps notify admins if they thought any support ticket might be a little dodgy. Otherwise it is one more Wurm heartbreak for players who often have put up with quite a lot of game bug heartbreaks over the years. (Speaking as one who went through one too many of those over the years).

Been a minute (few days) since my last post, so it's time for another round going through all the latest comments. So I ended up playing around with this for a bit, trying to figure out how to implement this exact thing onto dispel. I ended up with a few revisions that I attempted. At the end, I scrapped the whole thing and set it aside for now. While it's obvious that players want to be able to choose what type of effect to dispel, all the solutions for doing so have been pretty poor. I'm not willing to rush out a shoddy implementation just to "get it done" in this case. For now, Dispel will function as it always did. There's the possibility of revisiting this topic in the future but it will not be a part of the Priest Rework update. Makes some changes in the code. Nope. Definitely wont work on uniques. That's a pretty good idea with Oakshell. I'll ask the team if that's something we want to do. I'll be making a change to Purge shortly which will make it avoid dispelling karma effects. They're too costly to be removed so easily. We're still making some changes. Once all the changes are finalized (which should be soon), we'll have a finalized list of changes that we're ready to present. It shouldn't be too much longer. It does right now, but I'll likely be removing the ability for Purge to dispel those effects alongside Karma effects in the next update. I tried something similar to this in Wurm Unlimited. While people love it and use it frequently, I've found it fairly damaging to the economy. Players who have many resources are able to more easily and securely create "masterpiece" items. Instead of having to sit there casting on your supreme item, risking a shatter every time, you instead just cast on items you might plan on selling until you get a 100+ cast, then use the scroll to transfer it over. This removes a ton of the risk and provides all the reward to the player. Again, it feels extremely good from the player perspective because they strictly benefit, but it's a flawed design that will most likely cause significant damage to the community and economy.

Hello Wurmians, I created this spreadsheet for personal use a while back and recently shared it with my Alliance and the CA Help chat. It is based on the formula available on wurmpedia and regularly referenced in the CA Help chat. I believe it is self explanatory but you basically fill in the blue fields to work out either the optimal ore type to mine with your skill and pickaxe QL or alternatively use the other calculator to work out the best QL of pickaxe if you want to mine a specific ore! I figured it worthwhile linking here for the wider community, any feedback would be appreciated! But feel free to download a personal copy if you want to tweak it to your own taste, otherwise just fill in the blue fields to make use. Note: The "guide" part of the spreadsheet is somewhat opinion based and there are likely many other alternatives! ^-^ A Note on Vein Quality/Prospecting: Skill can only be gained when mining ores under 39 QL, however ores mined at the "cap" for their Quality (such as mining a 35QL ore from a 35QL vein) could have rolled higher than 39QL (such as 60QL mining action) and so would not provide skill gain - but would be capped by the quality of the vein and therefore result in a 35QL shard/ore. In addition to this, you won't get skill for any ores mined at 1.00 QL either as that is considered a "fail" action. The equations provided in the spreadsheet therefore focus on maximizing the amount of shards/ores mined between 1.01 and 38.99 QL, whilst also preferring longer actions for more chance at a skill tick. Note that is is still recommended that one should always mine ores which prospect as "Poor" or "Acceptable" as this leaves the higher quality veins for you to mine with a better QL pickaxe when you want to mine higher QL shards/ores to use. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1p_1hjgJcxYYicJlHbVVN2UU10DsVd6SvFlUudXCbYnw/edit PS. If many people are using the spreadsheet at once it is likely to be frustrating so I would recommend downloading a copy and I will update this post if a new version is ever released (unlikely unless lots of constructive criticism or updates to how the mining skill is gained in wurm). You can also open the google docs version & go to "File - Make a Copy" to have a copy of the google doc version saved to your google docs. If you would like to see more spreadsheets like this, feel free to ask and I may be up for it! Also I am totally cool with anyone else making similar or even using this as a basis for the other skills. Enjoy and Happy Mining! ? V

Oh you guys! *kicks the ground bashfully* I have to say that I'm thrilled to see people being so excited and enthusiastic about this! Thank you so much guys for all taking part in this conversation and expressing your thoughts and ideas! And just to clarify, my suggestion of special game mechanics for horses is certainly not original. In addition to the many times I've personally seen this suggested by other players in various places over the years, we even saw that the devs were discussing this as well back in the day (thanks again for that link Brash_Endevours!). Just goes to show how the interest in this simply refuses to go away! What is novel about my post however, is the idea of taking our existing horse model and finding additional ways to use it so we'd get even more variation. An implementation that would not burden the team too badly. The reason I keep emphasizing practicality in this thread is simply because the entire dev team only has one artist. One artist. For a whole MMO guys. One. Pretty crazy huh? So I wanted to really aim for a solution that would be as light as possible (work load-wise) and without getting into too much extra fuss. I'm sure that the list of work Saroman has, is overly long as is. How the guy has time to eat or sleep, I do not know. Anyhow, as I was looking through the images I realize that it might not very easy to see the differences between the body shapes, so I made this animated gif of the three types. Hope it helps! Now to respond to some comments. Aw nice to hear you feeling inspired Blooodscythe! I agree that the animal husbandry system is long overdue some sweet tender lovin'. Especially considering the fact that out of all of the things we spend time on in Wurm, animals are one of the biggest parts of it! I also agree that there is something very strange about the progression of the skill with the negative traits becoming a burden. It's why I stopped my animal husbandry skill gain and don't train it up! Indeed! Aw thank you guys, that's very sweet of you to say. Well just so you know, I have in fact applied to the wurm team 3 times already over the years but understandably, a game this size just has to be super careful about headcount and budget, so I understand why it hasn't worked out. Even we were very stingy about adding new people back at the big game studios I was working at even though they were on a totally different planet budget-wise. Maybe some day though, you never know! Araninke EXACTLY YES YES! This is precisely why I've been also trying to calm people down when they've asking for something even fancier, because the whole point for me to was to find a really quick, really easy way for us to have our cake and eat it. Knowing exactly that point, that it's easy to shoot down if it would take too much time from the devs who should be working on other things. Oh but actually Grumpled, you raise a VERY good point. Thank you for speaking up actually. I'm actually a similar type of person and enjoy it when a game gives me options to do my own thing, even if it goes against the grain, so I totally get it. It's true, maybe not everyone WANTS to ride a svelte hotbred horse to get from place to place. So maybe ALL traits are possible for ANY horse body shape, but you just have a higher chance of getting strength and stamina for heavy set horses, whilst speed and agility is more likely to fall on hot blooded types. This would give an additional challenge and long term goal to finally breed that draft horse that runs fast. If they look like they're merging into the feet seamlessly, sure why not. I'm just skeptical as to whether they would though or whether they'd look "pasted on", ya know?

We did have a market highlighting feature on Xanadu in the beginning. We removed it due to a political situation. However, we could implement something like this: The Deli map has some of the legacy code that can support deed outlining for markets. Question is.. you like the orange?

What inspires me? Wurmians, in all the years I've played, it's not the places, it's not the buildings, or the bridges, it's the people who make them, you are my inspiration, you are inspiring, from the new player who just entered the game, to those who survived Wurmageddon, for the stories, the tears and the laughter, to quiet times, and the raucous, you're all my inspiration, and the reason I continue to log in and roam the lands. I thank you all for just being there, for continuing to inspire me to procrastinate and wander, to see what you have built from the rocks, trees and dirt we inhabit, you're all the inspiration this Wurmian will ever need.

I think what has inspired me the most in Wurm over time was probably the thought of the much anticipated bridges. And the thought of them maybe coming into game sure inspired many of us! One of my earliest projects in Wurm was to build a temple, faking 4 buildings with rope bridges between them. It took me a long time to figure out the whole build and remove ladders procedure, so I probably worked on this house for towards a year on and off. When I finally figured out how to remove all the floors to create the hollowed part I ended up with one remaining floorplan I could not remove. So Enki came, and flew up and down the center of the building and I sort of tried to teach him how it all worked, not that I knew, then we had to ask for expert help, so Hesta came. She said it was not possible to build like that... Anyways, I built this somehow, and also later managed to disguise the remaining floor plan above the office. Totally untalented clip and also the only clip I ever made. Then stairs came into play and this house fell out of my inspiration. It was never adapted for stairs. Xanadu came in betweeen and again the thoughts of the much anticipated bridges kept my inspiration going. When they finally came in game I breached a huge bay, and now my next project is that (once in a Wurmlife) huge castle, faking the size by integrating bridges. Here the smaller of the two bridges across the bay, on this side of the island the water is more shallow, situated on the Glasshollow Linton Highway:

  48. 1 point
Why is that a problem? Doesn't sound exploitable in PvP, and against a unique, it's not going to do you any good unless your team can out-DPS the unique's regen, in which case, I don't really care what kind of healing you use. (And, you -still- gotta gather and manage that herd you're going to burn through.) From a player perspective, it feels like you're upsetting a solid, well-enjoyed mechanic to put the kibosh on a few corner cases, at least some of which regard unique fights, which are already pretty wonky gameplay. That is, you're damaging a good mechanic to heal a scratch on a badly-wounded one. BTW, any reason to not allow LT to target highest-damage wounds? Seems like everything else is. (Oh, and while I'm at it, would be great if we could right-click a player with cotton/salve/etc. and heal the highest-damage wound...)
