So, today was a big day! Sundisk and I joined Emoo in his weekly Wurm Wednesday stream to discuss the huge upcoming priest overhaul, which touches on almost every aspect of being a priest, we shared details about mechanics as well as showcased new spells and talked about balance, there's a lot to go over and we'll cover bits of it in here, incase you missed it, you can catch the stream here: Gods and Demigods In order to better streamline how player gods work, we'll be working on tying demigods (player gods) to the original gods more closely, demigods allied with a god will share many aspects, including prayer locations, restrictions, influence spell lists, and most importantly, demigods allied with a god will be able to have their priests link together. Priest restrictions In order to improve priest play we have loosened many restrictions from general priesthood, and also adjusted god based priest restrictions to, as follows: The following restrictions have been lifted from priests: Continuing structures, fences, and items Repairing structures Alchemy (including healing covers) Bashing structures and fences (includes structure roof & floors) In addition to this: Fo based priests (this includes demigods allied with Fo) can now do mining and all mining actions (Mine, prospect, tunnel, analyse). Libila and her template demigods can now operate war machines Magranon and his template demigods can now cut wood Vynora and her template demigods can now do all things digging, including Flattening, Leveling (including border), and Dredging This means playing as a priest solo is more feasible, and means working with lower quality tools than crafters, but still able to built a house! Rite spells We all know that Vynoras rite of spring is the dominant rite, who can turn down 5h sb? Not us! (Except me, because Fo is thebest). With this update we'll be setting Vynoras rite to be more of a baseline, with each rite giving 5h sleep bonus and a small characteristic improvement depending on the god. Gods and their Demigods will now share a server wide pool on these casts, so following/praying to a demigod will still provide towards the base gods total pool. The required amount of prayers will not change with server population, meaning an influx of players to a server will not increase the requirements, and there will not be a requirement of players in local to cast either, meaning better systems for organising them as the community events they were intended to be! Last but not least with rite spells, they will no longer require being on at a specific time! After the cast, players have up to 24 hours to pray and receive the bonuses, meaning if you were offline when it was cast, you don't miss out! New spells Along with a rework of most spell mechanics, new spells have been added: Cleanse: Fo spell. Converts 3x3 area of mycelium back to normal, cast on dirt will create grass Essence Drain: Libila spell. Libila version of life transfer and flaming aura/frostbrand, healing a small amount of damage and dealing a small internal wound as bonus damage. Less effective than LT or FA/FB, but able to do both. Focused Will: Magranon spell Magranons healing spell, drains stamina of the caster as it heals. Hypothermia: Vynora spell Single target cold damage spell Inferno: Magranon spell Single target burn damage spell Summon soul: All gods. This one we expect may be a little controversial, allowing a priest to summon a player to their location. It will require the person being summoned to accept the summon, as well as being PvE only. There's a large favour requirement and a cooldown so it's not one for spamming, but may help travel sometimes in certain situations! Resistances and cooldowns With all the new spells and reworking of the old, improving spell based combat is a big focus. With the previous mechanic of overheating proving to be somewhat ineffective, we've introduced both resistances and cooldowns on spells. Taking damage from a spell increases your resistance, and many spells have their own cooldown. Some spell types will share resistances, such as Worm brains, Hypothermia, and Inferno sharing a common resistance, and healing / life transfer has a total combined resistance, much like how light of Fo has worked. There's a lot more to share including spell specific changes which we'll be doing as it goes to public testing, we expect to be picking up with team testing soon! Newspring overhaul There's been a lot of voting for the Newspring deed redesign, and i think both designs have been awesome, but there always must be a winner, and this time it is Renate! Renates design carries a treetop wander feel, and I'm keen to see it in the game, we'll be working with him to get it all ready so expect to see results soon! There'll be a small update this week which will include the little unicorn and hell babies which I'm excited for, so see you there, until then though, Keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team

WHy should he? Prices are changing constantly cos of the personal goals and who si getting what tomes. He obviously will want the best price he can get and getting people to offer gives him a better chance than jsut laying down one price and at auction there is no guarantee he will even meet his reserve.

@RetrogradeI'm sorry but if spend significant time to make tools from specific materials like steel(not even mentioning skills for steel) for example, imp the ###### out of it untill I get rare/supreme one, imp the ###### out of to get it to respectable ql like 95+, grind the ###### out of it channeling on my priest like 95 chan for example, burn ton of favour untill I get it close to 100 power and I have 1/100 chance to shatter on fails which happens a lot even with high skill like people already said it's a serious problem. Some items also represents emotional value for as and are sometimes irreplaceable. I know a person who shattered rare shield of 90+ql on 90 skill on dispell ffs. Metalic liquids are fine beside being rare like like fantastics, but imo it should be used as alternative for priests with lower skill. I don't feel the chance of shatter is scaled with item material difficulty, item ql, and priests skill and I think a lot of people feel that way. Not sure why are you so convinced that random shatter is so good item sink and why we need such item sink. Do you really call ballance that I shattered supreme 95ql 2h sword on last from 4 spells with 90+ power I wanted on it with 94chan priest? Not to mention other rares I shattered with 90+ priests at 90+ ql trying to o get to atleast 95 power...

As long as priesting means no actual crafting, this will never happen imo dispel and forced shatter is a serious issue though

Well for once I am surprised, I hadn't expected the overhaul to have such a strong impact. These changes look like a solid improvement to priest QoL; I look forward to seeing what additional spells (and changes to existing ones) come about. The changes to rite spells in particular are really wonderful to see. There are a few points worth mentioning: The fo spell on show (cleanse) seems a bit underwhelming; letting it spawn random flowers would be a nice upgrade, or allowing it to spawn reeds/kelp when cast on water tiles would also be a nice change. "Healing / life transfer has a total combined resistance, much like how light of Fo has worked." - This worries me a little, since it is going to further nerf LoF if it shares its resistance pool with other healing spells. Does this mean that, if you are healed by light of fo, you may resist a cure light wounds cast afterwards? Enchanting is the lifeblood of many priests, and some way of producing metallic liquid using alchemy and a large amount of resources (thinking bulk such as ores/alloys) would add a nice new side market to the enchanting world. Makes it less rare, but I suspect it will always be in demand by enchanters wanting to hedge the odds. Again, a lot of new gameplay potential here for priest players; well done! I look forward to the testing period, and seeing what additional changes have been made.

No, that is pretty much everyone who does casting, even me on my two bit priest alts.

Fast, courteous service. Would do business with again, thanks!
  9. 3 points
Yes yes yes please allow Fo to create reed and kelp! It does not really working on their own.
  10. 3 points
That may be better than horrible, but it's still potentially wasting a lot of players' time, and that's not a good thing. Instead, if item sinks are such a big deal to have, make them fun: allow crafters to disassemble items for skillgain, or let priests unenchant items for channeling gain. I know that I'd clear out a lot of stuff if that were implemented.

I do think that there should be a lot less chance of shattering high level items. What really concerns me is that the chance of shattering rares, supremes and fantastics seems to be the same as normal items. I think that the chance of shattering these treasured rare+ possessions should be a lot lot less. Fantastics should never shatter at all. I have a supreme loom with no casts. At the moment I don't dare get it casted with WoA - the cost of replacing it just doesn't bear thinking about. A normal loom if it shattered could be replaced easily, even though imping would cost a few silvers, but a rare? a supreme? How do you replace a rare+ item with the player's sig? We have to think of the intrinsic value as well as the sentimental and hope value in these items before deciding to wipe them irrevocably from the database. We want to encourage more people to get their most special items casted successfully. It's good for priests and it's good for the player concerned. We have an opportunity to give players that 'feel good factor' of getting a rare item with good casts, not shatter their hopes and dreams with a lost supreme.

With a 95 channeling vyn priest in vyn influence with a 90ql altar and 100 alignment and maxed enchanting bonus, a normal casting session can EASILY see 20+ failed casts which is statistically only 1/5th the way towards a full run of a shattered item. No I clearly remember every single one that does not shatter because they still exist and I'm reminded of this fact every time I use them As an account reaches towards 100 channeling, they should reach towards never shattering an item, otherwise 70 skill or 100, it has literally the same effect

As far as the code and what the devs say, this is not possible. HOWEVER, Since we've heard this a few times, we need details to figure out what may be happening on very rare occasions. We have not been able to reproduce this at will. We have no data to see a before and after of this. Devs cannot see anything in the code that would account for this. If this did happen, we need details of dates, before and after examines and anything you can think of that may help in figuring this out.

I think the key issue here is that priests are not encouraged to grind and actually get better and instead they are encouraged to do something absolutely irrelevant to being a priest and enchanting to get an irrelevant item to bandaid being a better priest. It makes no sense, the same way that gold's shatter resistance isn't going to encourage making gold tools because gold sucks, even steel having a shatter resistance isn't going to encourage anyone not already using steel to use it because steel is such a pain to maintain

Just having the item rare should make it have less a chance to shatter also . Strange I always figured the metal type would reduce the chance , silly me thinking the devs would have figured or added that ... Its to bad during a cast you don't start to get a message saying you start to see cracks appear , giving you time to cancel the cast .. Some cast do take a little time and would make sure the person is looking at what there doing instead of watching Netflix or something else . Not sure if this would be possible .

Calling going to rift which is often at inconvenient time and hoping for a chance to get that misterious liquid which seems smaller than to actually shatter item a effort put makes me laugh, sorry had to point this one too. That can hardly be called putting work and effort. Putting work and effort is grinding NS skill, gathering some relarivly scarce or hard to get materials and making such potion for example or you know grinding channelling and imping item, that's putting effort but I guess we have different definitions of it. Really felt the need to stress this out after reading your post again.

Well your mystical liquid should not be as rare as making a fantastic item, its so rare in itself, I can't imagine using it simply to protect a rare item. Because of shattering most of my favorite tools will never be recast for a better enchant, I could not stand to loose them in such a manner.
  21. 2 points
But you are happy with the chance of shatter? It should be based on skill rather than shitty RNG

Haven't been here in over a year, Love what you've done with the place ?

Yeah disassembling rare pickaxe for example should give relatively significant skill gain in blacksmithing compared to a regular pickaxe to give people reason to destroy it(best thing is it fits lore completely, you carefully study someones extraordinary work and learn a lot from it), also 80 skill blacksmith for example would want bulk of 90ish ql picks in order to have viable grind this could even encourage trade and create market for normal items, or he can still imp all fashioned way for cheaper and longer to get same skill gain, I admit lot of numbers and simulations need to be done in order this to be balanced. Like I said before between the lines I doubt shattering is so efficient item sink, maybe there are some logs or data about how much rare/supreme items was shattered in last year for example so we know exactly?
  28. 1 point
Another thought: if it were my game, I'd not only remove shattering, I'd introduce the possibility of rare/supreme/fantastic enchantments (with an appropriate increase in cast power). (Metallic liquid could then increase the chances of getting a rare cast.) That way, instead of sitting down to a casting session with the fear of shattering hanging over me, I'd instead know I'd have a shot at something cool. That's the kind of long-shot RNG that encourages participation.
  29. 1 point
Yes there are already suggestions about disassembling rare tools by enchanters to get rare essence which could be used (several of them) for a chance to increase rarity or maybe can even be used for creating metalic liquids by alchemists. Plenty of things that can be done and thought of that are rewarding and serves as item sinks. I like idea about disassembling high ql items by crafters for skill gain also.
  30. 1 point
Increasing the availability of metallic liquid is a possible idea too yes
  31. 1 point
It's not a crutch, it's a protection against shattering. the argument that high channeling should remove the chance of shattering completely is something we disagree with, as a compromise for items that are truly important to you we have introduced a way to protect them, meaning you can remove any chance of shattering at the cost of work and effort. Otherwise, enchant without it and risk the tiny chance. Failing that, not enchanting the item at all (as enchanting isn't mandatory) prevents all shattering
  32. 1 point
One should not need a crutch such as that with a high channeling skill.
  33. 1 point
I don't know how you could hit 100 channeling, but even if you were 95, shattering a item should not happen, maybe even if you were 90 channeling, that is a serious grind in itself. Certainly the chance should not be 1/100 at 90 or more channeling.

Summon soul: All gods. This one we expect may be a little controversial, allowing a priest to summon a player to their location. It will require the person being summoned to accept the summon, as well as being PvE only. There's a large favor requirement and a cooldown so it's not one for spamming, but may help travel sometimes in certain situations! Welp, there goes public slayings. ?

According to Wiki, Catapults seem to be able to damage bridges (Thanks to Cenotaph for testing). Four Rock Shards did 8.0374664 dmg on a bridge of QL = 48.90988. Combine ammunition into 80kg shards in order to maximize damage. Quality of ammunition not only affects the damage, but keeping quality 25+ generally yields a chance your ammo is not destroyed. This allows you in demolition situations to collect spent ammo for using again. That seems very high dmg to bridges, , not sure whether it is the same ondeed/offdeed and PvE/PvP ...

I would assume, based on this, that all priests would be able to build/continue a treb. Good luck getting to 80 FC without being able to imp.... but hey.... a change is a change.
