So I went to Xanadu to raise my woodcutting skill. I decided to go to my old stomping grounds, an area on northern Xanadu where no one lives, so I could peacefully deforest the place. I filled up a crate cutting all the trees on an old ruin I used to live near, and then it hit me... I could actually find out what the place had been! And this is when it started for me. I dropped my hatchet and mailed myself a metal brush and a trowel. I collected something in the realm of 40 fragments and started identifying them. Found a lot of junk, and a couple statue fragments, which I kept of course. Then I noticed something about recording stuff in a journal. This lead me to the wiki to see how this all worked (Yes I read the patch notes when they were released, but I didn't really care much for it.) Armed with the knowledge of how it all worked, I mailed myself some ribbons, leather and strings, and started making myself the materials I needed. Keep in mind I am in the middle of nowhere, next to disbanded deeds and nowhere near my home. I made myself a press, and used the string and my first page to make my book. From there I finished making my journal, and started making the 22 pages necessary to have a full journal. This whole process to most of my gaming night, but I still had some time to play with it a bit more. The first settlement I discovered was Port of Jericho. I don't have much information about it yet, just a name, but I will continue working on it. I can't remember anything about Port of Jericho, so it seems to be from before my time. After a little more time searching the area, I got another hit for Windy Shores. Now that settlement I remember. It was an open deed that was under construction when I lived in the area that annoyed me inmensly because it would trap horses that wandered into its deed (or your unbranded horse if you got off it on deed. Had to drag my cart because I lost my horses to the deed once.) So this is my first timer Archeology story. Why do I share this you ask? Because I had seen a lot of complaints about Archeology. People always complain that they don't get the fragments they need. I guess they are after rewards only. But for me? It was a good experience. I got to play the game as its meant to be played, taking a glimpse at what little lore there is to be garnered from this activity. What I got made me curious, and now I want to know more. So I will be busy for a while, like a kid with a new toy. Do anyone here know anything about those two settlements? If so, please share below!

This thread is more focused towards the Dev team than it is it's community but I personally wanted to start this to put my thoughts out there and maybe letting some of the other members of the community do the same. So far Wurm has been getting so many updates , it's really becoming more and more fun to play , I would personally like to say thank you for awakening the discussion about PvP and thank you so much for these last changes and updates. I feel like a child on christmas evening.

So my original "Okay" was to poke you to elaborate more, while also expressing my annoyance at another person attempting to blackmail us by threatening to leave. We get that a lot, but we have to look out for everyone and not just a single person and how many alts or deeds they have. I'd rather 10 people bring a friend because it's a little more enjoyable to run around and smash trolls now than one person keep 10 alts. Review what Sindusk said and see if you still have concerns that we're hurting the craft side of things here. And I'm sorry for simply replying with "Okay". You just have to understand how infuriating it is to have a single person attempt to sway what we do for thousands by threatening to rip their alt income from the game. Honestly, if it came to the point where we ever were in danger of not being able to support Wurm, I'd probably offer to go halvsies on it just to keep the game up. So threatening to leave like that won't ever change our minds. Yet making a valid, well-thought point will.

Ehh... I've been roving around in plate for a very long time. I've been looking for drake or scale, but I still twitch at the idea of paying real money for things in Wurm. I've been on board for these changes for some time, but it's more been no one has really been able to take the time to make them AND test them. I'm all for this simply because it brings more options to both players and crafters. Material types have a bit more say, so as Sindusk pointed out - it's not completely making one path or the other useless. It just means if you simply don't want to be one-shotted, you have more choices. The only crafter to have raised an issue so far has ignored the points made by Sindusk and instead decided to "sod it".

While studded and chain have the same base damage reduction now, there's a significant advantage to wearing chain: material. You can make chain and plate out of steel or moon metals to increase the DR further than what's presented here. If we were to keep leather and studded at lower DR values they would never be useful. It's also key to note that a 2.5% difference in DR is not "2.5% less damage taken" - these values need to be compared to eachother. 100 damage versus 62.5% DR is 37.5 damage. When it's 65% DR, it's 35 damage. You divide the two and end up with 37.5 / 35 = 1.07, or a 7% damage increase when going from plate to studded. What Retrograde mentions about the damage effectiveness, combined with glance, is exceptionally important now. Here's one of my spreadsheets (which was available from my datamining spreadsheet before i was a developer) that should demonstrate the difference rather clearly: The "Evaluated" section is the key point here, which demonstrates a full evaluation of each armour against all damage types, including the glance rates and damage effectiveness. It's also important to note that chain and plate are iron in this chart. Steel and moon metal materials will change them to potentially be better defensively than drake or dragonscale, but that's when the movement speed penalty kicks in. At the end of the day, every single armour that wasn't drake or scale got a buff. This means every player that doesn't own a set is going to be better off than before.

I love that we can now set our tables, showcase things around the house, so I'd like to suggest a new drinking utensil, a Drinking Horn. Made out of an animal horn, I think it would be a nice addition, as currently we only have a pottery beer stein or a skull cup. I think it would look good on a table, shelf, or full of our home brewed beer or wine

I could be outdated here, but branded animals have always counted towards citizens, no? Forgive me if I'm wrong on that front. Probably because it hasn't bubbled to the top as an immediate need so far. There's implications to consider, such as people griefing with deed placement. Though I suppose that's already possible. Why not expand over the section and bring it back in when you're done? That's what I'd do. Then again I also blew 40s on placing a deed three times. Essentially, this is one of those areas where there could be an argument for or against what permissions should be a part of the perimeter of a deed. Seeing as perimeter is cheap compared to actual deeded tiles. I'd have to look to see if a precedent is already set to allow for more than undeeded actions on a perimeter tile, seeing as the only functionality intended for perimeter right now is to reserve the space. Not control it entirely.

The aim of the armour rework isn't just PvP related, it's PvE related too. Drake and scale have long been considered the best armour, for pretty much every reason, DR, glance rate, movement speed. and was limited in its availability Their initial balance system was based around limited availability, with only one of each dragon/hatchling type existing per server. This meant there was a finite amount of hide out there, which changed when we released respawning uniques, and added more dragon types. Now you have an armour that is better across the board, with more sets entering the market every week, meaning that it goes from being something higher tier, to something that is more common each day, and still extremely better than other armour types. The aim of this is to buff the lower less used armours to shrink that gap between them and drake, and we'll continue to work on ensuring that the more commonly available armours are viable in PvE. PvE should be choice, not meta.

If a smelter is placed on a tile and I attempt to use the "Place" command to move it somewhere else on the same tile, I get the following message, as if trying to move it to a tile with another smelter: [22:26:57] You cannot place that item here, since there is not enough space on that tile. Presumably this happens with all one-per-tile limit items, but a smelter is what I can verify right now.

Many players might not know this, but when bulk storage (bins, crates, etc.) average the QL of items, they essentially "tax" you a certain amount of QL, gravitating toward the lower end of the average. For example, let's say you put two iron lumps in a crate, one at 10QL and one at 80QL. You would expect the crate to then contain two iron lumps at 45QL, but in practice it's closer to 40QL. Basically, it seems to treat the QL difference as 10% greater if putting in a lower QL item, or 10% lower if putting in a higher QL item. Either way, it intentionally results in a lower QL than the actual average. This results in situations where, if I have a pile of clay with an average QL of 75, and I throw it directly into a crate, the crate might then contain 72QL clay instead. I can bypass this by combining the clay into large chunks of approximately 75QL, but it's a bit of a pain. This "quality tax" appears to be some sort of holdover from when bulk storage was first introduced, but I find it hard to see what purpose it currently serves.

This might be interesting, making it a bit more rare to find than salt veins and perhaps spawning it deeper into mines, like add restriction it will not spawn x tiles from surface, so it can only be found by resoulute miners like the dwarves found mythril digging deep into Moria

As a returning Chaos player that started out on Independence in his early days before going to the (then) Wild server, I am very thankful for this update. My first pvp battle on Chaos (not counting falling at the hands of a spy alt) was in 40ql Plate armor. Being such a fresh account, my stamina drained really fast and I could not tank while being the slowest player in our group (everyone else in dragon armor). Let's just say I dropped like a sack of potatoes in that plate, which was then a necessity for weaker accounts for DR reasons. New players will benefit greatly from lighter, more competitive armor types to choose from. So will older players that don't want to create steel plate / moon metal armor / dragon armor for economic reasons. I'm currently going toe to toe with people in scale/drake while I'm in cloth in 1v1s on Chaos (and the occasional Gank), so I'm really gonna appreciate this slight buff to Cloth, haha. Very Respectfully, DA

drake and scale, as you can see, still have significant advantages, and I do agree with your point being a buff in other armours can feel like a nerf in high tier armours, but maintaining a status quo, or concerns of a market cannot be a deciding factor in whether things are balanced or improved, that forces a bad situation to stay bad because it benefits others. We know that some may feel their drake/scale has lost value because it doesn't have a significant edge compared to lesser armours, but they have bonuses such as movement speed, and definitely look way cooler. These armour values can be tweaked, part of the delay in this coming out was allowing for some back end work done by sindusk to make adjusting if necessary much less tricky, but our goal here is pretty simple, to make simpler armours more viable this also makes moonmetal armours more viable as well, which hopefully leads to moonmetal chain being more common in PvE, though I'm deeply disappointed the metal update changed glimmer from black to yellow, I wont forgive saroman until he implements purple dragons

I used studded armor from 2012 to 2016 and it was enough for everything (including champ trolls etc), so I speak from my experience.. drake and scale are NOT a necessity. They are nice to have, they still are, I bet people will still run around in drake and scale even after the change. Also this material type difference is completely irrelevant. To make a decision, what armor to use, you would have to make before going on hunt(or you carry around several sets of armor which you then change during your travel, as I pointed out in my last post for Sindusk), but even if you decide to equip yourself against one damage type, you will still meet different critters which do different damage. My point is.. whatever your reason was for doing that change, don't pretend it is for "fixing" PvE, you can't fix what isn't broken.. PvE side was fine even before that change. You simply created a problem in your mind, which you charged heroically to "fix".

It also has higher glance rates and higher DR against other attack types (the outlier being crush, which is a little obvious) It can also be made from other metals, which boosts the DR as well, being a significant advantage over studded, which cannot take the bonus DR from steel and such Iron plate will still be a bit basic compared to others, which is what those values are for. EDIT Realised I missed a bit that would have explained that Changes to damage type damage reduction modifiers on armours (lower % means less effective against that damage type, 100% = no modifier): Leather: 90% vs bite, pierce and acid; 110% vs slash and burn damage; 100% vs others. Studded: 90% vs slash and acid; 105% vs bite; 110% vs pierce and cold; 100% vs others. Chain: 92.5% vs pierce and cold; 107.5% vs bite, crush and burn; 100% vs others Plate: 95% vs crush and burn; 105% vs bite, slash and acid; 100% vs others. Cloth: 80% vs bite, slash and burn; 120% vs crush and cold; 100% vs others. Drake: 95% vs slash and acid; 105% vs crush and cold; 100% vs others. Scale: 95% vs crush and cold; 105% vs pierce and burn; 100% vs others.
  21. 2 points
that is BASE DR, DR is still modified by damage types, as well as glance types. This means that armours are still quite different, they just have a closer base. Body strength alone will account for a far larger difference in DR than armour type.

If you take a pumpkin, chop it up & bake it in a frying pan to make "Fried Pumpkin", you can pick the baked pumpkin for plantable seeds. This works with all of the vegetables you pick for seeds. If you take a corn, chop it up and fry it in a frying pan, you get "Fried Corn". You can take this fried corn & proceed to plant it. I'm not sure if this is intentional, wogic or an oops, but could be theoretically abused: Chop 100 corn & get skill, fry 100 corn & get skill & then go back and plant it as if it was normal corn.

The fact that you would think code added to the game is exclusive to your server, is the definition of bias. Maybe the terrain isn't better than Epic? Never played there so I really couldn't tell you. But we do have population. Which Epic servers currently lack. So at just that alone I think it's safe to say that yes, atm, Chaos is doing much better than Epic. Uhm... never? What's 2 or 3 years of work in this game? In Wurm-time comparisons 2 or 3 years is actually relatively short when it comes to obtaining a godlike PvP-character that can faceroll most people while blind. Easily achievable in that time frame. I've even done it myself. Stop trying to discredit those who actually put effort into the game by making these statements. Wurm was never a game where you can just jump in on your first day and outmatch 90% of your opponents. This sort of instant-gratification type attitude has never been catered to in Wurm and I really hope that it never will be. If you want instant gratification go play something like Clash of Clans or Fortnite. Of course they are. Why do you think they pushed so hard for the EPIC ARMOR CODE change, when no one who hadn't played on Epic would even be familiar with the way it worked? Captain obvious much? Why don't you, instead of trying to split Wurm's already-dwindling population up even further, attempt to move over with your epic buddies and consolidate your efforts to accomplish something useful, instead of griping on the forums about how the Devs are letting your already-dead server die.

We have a lot of requests for help by new players who find vehicles that are unlocked, hitch up some critters and drive them around, then disembark on someones deed, losing the vehicle. The Wiki contains several pages giving the good advice to not to this, but it seems that new players don't always read this, or find the advice before finding that handy dandy unlocked vehicle. I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a popup somewhere in the tutorial that could give this nifty piece of advice so that they are aware of it before even stepping into the game. I think this could save a lot of headaches and heartaches by new players.
