I'd like to point out that this is a request made after spending a LOT of time sailing and traveling the lands of Wurm. It's a rather simple request. Like with fishing, could we perhaps be allowed to drink via clicking on our ships/boats? It's sometimes not possible to actually disembark and find the proper tile to drink, neither is it possible to drink in another way if you're not near land and are looking to, for example, fight something or tame something. It would be a huge QoL thing for me personally anyway

Look, we're running as fast as we can, and we can't turn the hamster wheel and completely rewrite the server code at the same time. ...also, I got the giggles, and now I can't remember what I just changed in the code.

Kids these days. I tell ye. Okay okay. Want a description of the Xanadu server architecture? ...well, I snuck up into Rolf's garage and took pictures of the Xanadu server during peak times.

I often plant birch trees for several reasons: 1) They are the prettiest tree so good for landscaping, adding a bit of white accent that no other tree can do 2) They grow very fast so good for tree farms (I believe they grow and spread even faster than pine?) 3) They already do have one unique wurm game mechanic: Birchwood will burn longer than an equal weight of other wood There are other trees that lack any distinctive feature (beyond looks), such as Fir and Linden trees, so if you revisit birch sap, please consider them too. Sap and bark usefulness, however, I am all in for, especially if certain trees have some unique usage. Both sap and bark have numerous uses especially in a survival game, so not sure why Wurm has always ignored their usefulness (beyond maple syrup). Birch especially is a very useful tree for the properties of its bark and sap. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_bark https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_sap https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_syrup https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch_beer If we are "Singing A Song OF Birch" here, Birch actually has many superior uses making one of the most useful of trees: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch#Uses Birch bark could be used to make crude rope for catching animals, primitive beds, temporary containers, clothing, and even fragile canoes for newer players. Bark of some trees has even proved an emergency (and not very nutrtional) food source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bark_bread If Wurm decides to branch into HEALTH, WELLNESS & MEDICINE then bark is a useful ingredient for mayy medicines, soaps, balms. A starter medicine might be something used on animals that need help recovering from disease. However, Wurm has progressed I think betyond it's "survival game" roots, and is now more about building / crafting than raw survival. Collecting birch bark simply for kindling does not provide much interest in a wurm world where players can easily mass produce bulk kindling form their 453,873 wood scraps, and lighting a forge or oven with kindling is 100% successful. However, it would be useful in a survival setting where players are struggling even to light a campfire. It might be nice to someday have a wurm server, "Survival Island", with no boat access only new characters, that focuses more on very primitive starting-with-nothing survival gameplay. Birch sap and bark susrvival uses would be especially useful in such a place! Linking to very old 2012 thread of mine,

Better looking alternative for steppe-like tile (no bushes and trees). Not replacement but something similar. Drastically reduced tree and bushes spawn and spread Any grass tile without tree or bush for longer then x days can became meadow It means that if you put effort once and maintain area for some time, cutting all trees and bushes, you can have meadow, where trees and bushes will have reduced spawn rate, thus don't need to maintain it constantly. Meadow won't push trees back. It means that if you plant a tree on it, it will last. Also for bushes. Also maybe an option for increased non-aggressive animals spawn?

New weaving subskill (ideal for a new survival server). A combination of ART, AESTHETICS and UTILITY, weaving can provide many attractive uses to new and old player alike. Weaving would most likely be a TAILORING subskill, though I suppose it could also be a primary skill. Main resources: Wemp, cut grass, wild reed, scrap wood, tree bark, branches, hide strips. It has its own unique tools, starting with fairly crude tools and working up to advanced ones later. Intermediate and advanced weaving are more about ELEGANT AESTHETICS than pure survival, but the starter crafts are all things for basic needs and survival starter tools for the skill: crude loom, crude weaver tools Starting at its lowest levels, BEGINNER WEAVERS manipulate materials like mixed grass, wild reed, birch bark and soaked wood scraps into objects to both decorate and make their life easier: A survival shelter, less useful (non portable) than a tent, labor intensive but something a new player can easily make to store a small amount of objects (100 items) and also gain a reduced 50% sleep bonus while starting out. Decays in 72 hours so it needs to be rebullt often if a new player is using it as a starter base. This could be especially useful on a survival server where players start with no items, but has also some use on established servers for brand new players: Woven sealed containers -- once sealed cannot be reopened without destroying, but when sealed provides a nice shortterm way to BUNDLE and PRESERVE resources such as clay, logs, food ingredients. Prevents decay for 72 hours, then rapidly decays. Road builders and miners can also use this on the fly if they want a temporary way to bundle and preserve fallen trees/logs and stone shards until they can return to gather it up: Crude armor and clothing Woven ropes and twine are made to construct fish nets and small animal traps (after 48-72 hours, collects small scraps of game meat, generic bladder glands teeth fur and hide, need to be combined to get useful ao\mounts): chicken and small game coops/cages/pens (also nice for raising domesticated rabbits) Rugs, simple beds and furnishings: Wicker no-nails-required sheep and goat cart Simple woven and bark boats for new players to explore (not durable or repairable, needs an oar to paddle) Woven hobbles (keeps horses/cows/bison/sheep from wandering) Higher levels of the skill make beautiful rattan and wicker furniture, chimes, beautiful clothing , art wall weavings, dried flower arrangements Perhaps even a wicker floating island! also ... CLOAKS! MASKS! SHOULDERPADS! HATSIES!

Tasting alcohol gives you a message indicating QL, phrased as being the strength of the alcohol, e.g. "mind-blowingly strong". However, QL of alcohol does not affect strength of alcohol mechanically, this being only determined by the item template's defined alcohol strength, multiplied by some constant factor. I'm not sure what's intended here, so I don't know if the text is wrong or the mechanic. Either would be fairly easy to fix, whether it's modifying the misleading text, or factoring QL into strength. In addition, alcohol strength is not scaled depending on the size of the drink. As most of you know, a reed pen or 1mL measuring jug of moonshine will get you just as drunk as the standard 200mL sip. I believe I mentioned this to Tich during the cooking system's development, and it was acknowledged as an issue, but that was the last I heard about it. My suggestion to resolve this whole thing? Scale alcohol strength with quality, and make sure all stamina/drunkenness gains are scaled by weight of the actual sip taken. The former would resolve the misleading text and give players more reason to create higher-QL booze, and would make alcohol a bit stronger in general, meaning it will actually be possible to get drunk without using reed pens or measuring jugs. The latter change would just make sense, and remove a very counterintuitive and unbalanced mechanic whereby a single liter of wine provides you with 1000 drinks. In general, the focus would be more on producing and using high-quality alcohol for stamina/drunkenness, as opposed to manipulating what is arguably an exploit in the game mechanic via pens/jugs.

So everyday on Xanadu we have back up at about the same time.. Everyday Shydow has to say it was back up lag when he is on.. Everyday it seems somebody asks wth was that LAG spike. So im asking for a simple fix. At about 5 minutes to BACK up we get a Quick ORANGE on Screen and in EVENT box a notification that BACKUP will be in 5 minutes and last approx 3 minutes. Thats its nothing fancy but very helpful for those of us that get busy and new people that think (and yes I have had this conversation) that the server crashed or client crashed etc. Make it happen for each server ( no idea if they all back up at the same time or not) this is called Q O L. Easy add on.. Easy fix. Please +1

Xanadians... I've said it before and I'll say it again... if you can't stand the lag, get off of the server and go play on an 8x8 map like Cele, or Pristine. Can we hide this thread now? Thanks.

This suggestion can be shot down with common sense - stick a small barrel / container in your boat and fill it before you leave, drink from that.

Yeah I have that mod on my server but it isn't awarding the karma. Plus I would prefer a way for all players involved in a fight to get karma. Thanks for the suggestion though

Wurm Online is a product that has grown organically and in unexpected ways over more than a decade of time. With projects like that, it's almost inevitable that things could have been done better in hindsight, or that a total rework could hypothetically improve things. However, the amount of work involved means this is very rarely feasible, especially for a small development team.
  25. 1 point
Who cares about a few seconds of lag when anything you want to achieve takes months anyway? This is why we love Wurm. Use the servers perks to your advantage: have a huge storage (or architectural madness) deed on Xanadu for the lower monthly upkeep, grind there for the lower SB consumption. Go for hunting and other activity type funs to smaller servers. All you need is a boat...

A pic showing the description of the other item?
  27. 1 point
I think for someone asking 10g for something with this many questions we could see a pic along with the description from the item. Also, 1 of 7? Rare Mask of Rebirth - Legacy Item (1/7 in the game) ➜ 50 Silvers Not sure where that figure came from since they were also given out in the latest event. Mine isn't rare but I do have the item and bones certainly aren't rare.

It's really not that difficult: the more people and items on any server, the more lag. Xan= big, more populated, and more items. More lag. This is why so many vets avoid Xan whenever possible. Smaller server, less people, and fewer items, no lag. I'm on Indy, not even in a remote area, and I have no lag. Go to a rift on Indy during peak times, when population in a close area jumps and you'll see some lag, but typically manageable. Anyone with any bit of gaming experience knows this. *edit* And as for your demand: I work in IT (security side). I see customers like you. I tell them the same thing I'm going to tell you: buck up, it's I.T. You can demand all you want, but some things are not that easy to fix. You have to weigh the benefits vs. the problems. If you can't deal with the problems, then there's always other options. In this case.. sayonara..

Back on Epic before the reset I used to have a tiny island, and on that island I kept multiple types of every tree, people thought I was being dumb, and did not believe the wood type "myth" outside of willow for fishing poles and bows. Well I always made sure to make tools out of certain wood types, burned certain woods, made piles out of oak etc. Turns out I was right. Birch trees are not useless, but adding birch sap as a maple alternative would be neat.

Although I have no witty suggestions for the title names specifically, I would like to suggest combination titles. In other words, if you manage to attain two similar or related titles, you then gain a subsequent title that represents the combination of the two. For example, someone with a title in carpentry and fine carpentry might well be given a title representing these two together. Someone who is a master of shipbuilding and fishing might then be deserving of a combo title then referring to their overall greatness in all things water. A carpenter and a blacksmith title combine to make a "Builder" or "Craftsman". You get the point Thanks guys and here's looking forward to some new, cool titles!

So? Then just implement the tools, every other player is now a dev or a GM. The time should not matter in such cases, I lost my money.. even if it is 2 years later, I still want my money back. Wouldn't you? And put yourself into my(or any other customers) shoes. "Sorry, we can't help you" doesn't cut it. If you close a ticket with such a phrase, there is another customer, who has been left without a solution. You are there for the customers, not the other way around. EDIT. For example, looking at OP, if you simply had given the guy an anniversary reward (as I understand, someone just sent one from their personal stash), this topic for example wouldn't have ever appeared. Maybe even opposite, we may have been reading a praise addressing the staff. And it wouldn't have cost you anything.

+1, but I would add that meadow tiles would not spawn within X radius to trees also. It wouldn’t make sense to have a bunch of meadow tiles surrounding oaks and willows all the time IMO i like the idea of more variation in the world though.
