    Hello everyone, Aske and I have been working on something in the past months and the project has concluded this week at last. This is where it is located: There are a few touches that need finishing, but it is fully traversable. It's not highway compatible due to the project start predating the highways conception alone(-> plans could not be made with catseyes in mind), so in the times to come where "Find Route" might make pointing signs obsolete, this is your super not-so-secret tip for getting over the mountain, instead of around it. The western half was done by me and consist of a serpentine road climbing the mountain and leading into a tunnel (Lights are to be provided still, and some veins to be excavated.) An ants view from the beginning: The eastern part is arguable the more impressive one and was done by Aske - I think pictures speak much better for this arrangement, as my words won't do it justice. I merely donated the (or at least a substantial amount of) stone bricks and a pinch of dirt, but everything else from procuring all other materials to assembly was done by him. And the eastern start is not as hard to miss. And it goes on like that for a while We haven't settled on a name, really. Guess we're both pathologically pragmatic. But perhaps the community will be better at finding a name for it. Hope this will open up more travel between the Summerholt area and "North of Whitefay".

    There is no excuse to be so lost you can't find your way anywhere. 1 - you can use a compass 2 - there are community maps 3 - highways with waystones all over the place now 4 - can also use a dioptra if you really stumped, they are light weight 5 - ask for help in freedom Pay attention to your surroundings and you will never get lost in the first place know the land marks. A part of wurm is the adventure of figuring things out, a interactive map removes that.

    Stop talking. You are bad for any chance Wurm may have to bring in new players. Don't want to use an interactive map? Pay attention, this is complicated. Don't hit M. Can't handle that? Ok, no problem. Open your console, that you can surely handle, and type "Bind M" then hit enter. Now you can hit M all you want, and you won't see the map. In the meantime, when a new player like CrazyDad takes the time to post a simple suggestion that shouldn't be considered all that nuts or far-fetched by anyone with half a brain, how bout we don't tell them to go back to WoW and instead try to behave in a way that welcomes them into the game?

    +1. They could put a toggle on it. That way, those who insist that getting lost and having to figure it out is "half the fun of Wurm," can continue to enjoy getting lost and figuring it out to their hearts content. I see no reason to insist that everyone in the game must be forced to "enjoy" what they enjoy. In fact, I'd be willing to wager that that mentality on many things that people make suggestions about is a large part of why we can't keep new people who try the game and the population doesn't grow, even though Wurm is a niche game, and why WU attracts so many, even veterans.

    This is a work in progress, more stuff coming in the feature. Allows you to spawn a "Custom NPC", which work similar to vanilla NPCs, except: They don't talk... for now. By default the won't move around. Can be set (Manage->Movement) to wander inside the territory of a village or a house. NPCs that end up outside their area will teleport back. If you want to move an NPC, set it to "Static" first then summon to the wanted location. Their face can be customized You can directly change their equipped items (Manage -> Equipment) Can be told to turn towards you or come to your location Data for NPCs is store inside your world folder, in a new folder "npc_data", the files can be edited by hand but don't do it while the server is running.     The End, please close thread GOING OUT OF BUSINESS END OF MAY AT THE END OF MAY 2019 I will be closing down business. Sadly though horse breeding for the market has been my profession for many years now, the population is simply no longer large enough to make it worth the effort in my opinion. I spent 6+ months working hard on getting all the new colors, but there doesn't appear to be much of a market (for my server, my deed location specifically) even for them at very reduced rates compared to other sellers. So I will sadly close my sale pens down at the end of May. In the meantime, the only new foals/horses that will go in after my 'presale' pen is empty will be new colors and maybe some ebony blacks. I would like to thank everyone who has been a customer over the years, it has been a lot of fun as well as work If the population of wurm should increase significantly in future I may well open up again, but in the meantime if you are ever in need after my pens close, there will always be a freebie pen for 4 speeds and maybe even 5 speeds in future. Pristine also has another horse market that I can highly recommend (the only other that I am aware of as well) and that is Virusmd's place at Dragon Beard Markets at T17.     Announcing an upcoming PvP server. This will be stand alone server and will be something completely unique I believe from all other servers out there. I will post the release date when the map is ready to go. Current high level plans are posted below, if you want to give it a try then keep tuned. With 1.6 being promised for weeks now hopefully it will be released very soon. As of right now the plan would be to release the server after 1.6 so the round is smooth with no interruptions. If no word comes about the patch in the next week or two then we will move ahead with a release. /fingerscrossed they can get it released and it will be out of our way. Fallen Wonders (Round 1) 2k map Skill gain 0 (Exception will be faith)/ Action Timer 5 No Skill Loss on Death Starting Skills 70 Characteristic 50 Starting Gear 50ql light-weight plate, 50ql longsword, 50ql large metal shield, 50ql Large maul (all no drop, no damage, not improvable). Since it is no drop don't want it hindering your ability to get new armor so will be 1/10th weight of normal plate. Starter weapons will remain normal weight because light weight weapons can really unbalance a weapon. NO CRAFTING NO CHAMPIONS NO HOTA NO DEPOTS Deities: Fo, Mag, and Vyn All champion mobs have random loot drops of higher quality All custom mobs will have loot table with random chance of unique loot, low chance of drops but will mostly be rare+ items that drop. I ran a PvP server a while back and was told NO GMS. Well we are trying something completely new and we want the server to work. So there will be GM interaction. We are not there to settle disputes or anything only there to do the items listed below. Which will be basically logging in and checking on things once a day. GM administrated kingdoms by two GMs that will not have any player characters. GM Built Deed for a base of operations for the kingdom members. GM logs to be posted weekly in forums to ensure fair play. Administration to keep the kingdoms as balanced number wise as possible as well as ensure war declarations are handled correctly. Bounty mod will be running for normal coin. GM placed merchants with speed mounts available for purchase with normal coin. Prices will be set at the start of the server and will remain constant. Supplies for both kingdom merchants will be done at the same time with the same types and amounts. Two kingdoms/One deed each. Each deed will be a PvP free zone until someone lays siege. End Game (Round Ends when complete) Lay Siege and destroy the other kingdom. A player buys a declaration of war and declares war. The defender will choice the time to defend the siege. The defender must choose a time within 24 hours of declaration. The time chosen must be within 72 hours of the declaration. 12-hour notice must be given for siege time. This ensures someone doesn’t just wait until all are offline and says ok we will defend now. If the defenders do not choose in 24 hours the battle will start 12 hours after the 24-hour expiration. You cannot declare siege while under siege. During the siege, 2 hours, no pvp zone will be removed and a battle will take place. You must kill the defenders and take their flag from the deed keep and return it your keep. When this is done the round has been won. The defenders can end the siege early by capturing the opposing kingdoms flag. Defenders capturing a flag does not count as a round win but only ends the siege quicker. If the attacker fails to win there will be a 48-hour period that they cannot declare war. This allows for the last defenders a chance to declare and not have one side who is constantly attacking with no chance of being attacked. The winner, kingdom member who purchased declaration, will get permanent colossus placed through the next rounds and all winning kingdom members will get a special title for being part of the winning kingdom next round and on Wonders if you play on there. Variety of open source mods will be used as well as mods we are currently developing and tweaking for the server. A full list will be provided prior to release date.

    I'm sure that I am not the only one who has thought this, and probably not the first or last to post it here. But can we please have interactive maps? It makes it so much easier to tell where you are and where you are going. If you want to get realistic with it. Then make the maps so they have to be made and only fill in when you visit those areas, but please have the maps he interactive!

    -1 Since when did a regular paper map tell you where you currently are? Maybe a city, town, state name, but that's what the Public maps are for, or your alliance marking, you can even add annotation your self to your map. Get lost, get found and/or find your way home is one of the greatest things of this game. Always and adventure to go a different route.

    Hi HughMongus, Small update, Havilah is now connected to Wolpertinger Ranch There will also be a conection from the highway near Holmside (new deed made there "Turtle Passage") that goes through the mountain and ends up at Trutle Bay (Lake Tortuga) very soon. I also expanded the highway up north together with Pangaron to end up at his deed Insanity Pond.

    Haven't you guys heard? They are so pleased with this creature movement as-is that they are now pushing it out to WU in the next update (where any fixes going forward will be another 6 months to a year before WU sees them). Anyone who complains about it or tries to point out that it is messed up either gets ignored or completely invalidated and treated as though they're just complaining about nothing. I gave up quite some time ago. I can only hope that the brilliant modding minds in WU will be able to reverse or counteract the really messed up parts of it.

    the rift is right outside the mine exit at the bottom of the accessable area. Further up there is a pen and even further an area far from rift for safe repairs and such. I put a colossus brick on the highway at the place to turn off

    I would like to welcome Inkosana, Gravitar, and Hoseph to the village! We still have room for more villagers! Our current projects are knocking down our current 1 lane bridge to the mainland and replacing it with a 2 wide so we can finally hook up to the highway, creating more farmland for villagers, and teraforming a larger / closer area to be used as a village tree farm. So we are, in fact, alive and well! (well being a relative term) Feel free to message Naiani, Shmeric, or myself with any questions you may have!

    How do you people get lost, with highways in the game, people naming guard towers with the ingame co-ordinates, and free locate souls on any branded animal?

    Plenty of -1's on here. How many people here ONLY use the in game map and not the community made map? the community made one has enough info for a person to find where they are EASILY. Making the map not interactive just makes players like him have to open another window in order to continue enjoying the game. Getting lost in wurm was only enjoyable when i was a noob that had plenty of time and had to run away from certain mobs. Now if im lost its just a killing spree until i find my way home. Nothing really fun about it unless i meet new people (Which i don't need to get loss to do) Also, the fact that the wurm map is an image of the initial world is completely disorienting. Theres no "key" showing what color means what type of land. Even if there was, people sometimes change the land like desert to forest. Theres also landbridges that are easily seen in game, in community maps, but are simply not existent in the in game map. All that map does is allow you to orient with mountains and lakes, which gets isnt amusing after doing it 2 times. I don't say "YES I FOUND MY WAY" i say "YES IM FINALLY DONE" when i make it to sermon parties or other events. +1 to an interactive map. If not showing where you are, at least update the image. im honestly shocked the community map posts have so many views yet people in the suggestion forums say no to an easier map to read in wurm

    Ah the first days in the Wurm Economy. Very nice post, I almost shed a tear My story My first was close to that too. Fortunatelly for me, the neighbor used to provide free high quality meals in a barrel outside his deed cause the center of Independence was packed with newbs like me. At start I needed clay for my oven as I was told to become a cook cause it supposedly was very rewarding job. So I needed clay. I got my clay (he had it fenced so we couldn't access it) in exchange for coding help with a side project of his. I offered more coding help to give me a rake and two horses for my cart but once he figured out I had gone premium he asked me for my one silver and my referal which I stupidly gave away for two non-traited horses. Job 1: Light cargo delivery with sailboat. When I figured out I was pretty much useless in wurm economy and that it would take a very long time to actually get the skills to compete with the established skillers, I decided to sail the seas and deliver goods around. Since I had no money to buy a knarr and a sailboat I decided to invest real money in it. I got 15 silver, which back then was 15 euro I believe. Back then, there used to be a ship building company or something, actually very few builders could make big ships so I had to wait in line for a boat or, as one of the master ship builders told me, I could think of some other type of deal. I ended up bribing to cut in line and get my first Knarr in 5 days before the orders of his other customers. It cost me 17 silver to get the knarr back then since the bribe was also included which meant I had to put another five euro in the game. After I purchased my boats I quickly found out I could not move a knarr around due to skill requirements. So I had to wait till I had the right skills. I started doing sailboat delivery orders around Independence's inner sea and when I got comfortable moving in and out of canals in all Independence. As side project I grinded the mind logic required for commanding a knarr and the body strength required to move it around. After learning all Indepndence I started doing sailboat item orders across servers since back then CoD was still a bit pricey especially if you had to move multiple items. It was good money and it became even better when I took on delivery jobs in Chaos. I remember delivering 2000 arrows to a guy in Kyara, spooky places. Job 2: Sea taxi Another good money making business was ferrying alt accounts of people across servers for sermons. For about two months I lived in the sea, no deed, no nothing. I'd hang by random people's deed for grinding and then hop on my boat for another transport. Job 3: Brokering goods Another one was checking the local market for items and transporting them to people that needed them across the servers. I'd buy the item myself from my stock of silver and then resell it to people that didn't have access to the market. Job 4: Reselling goods A guy I once met, he had a merchant in Freedom Market and he would check all other merchants for underpriced goods. He'd then buy them and list them for sale on his merchant for a slightly higher price. It worked good actually and he paid me to do the checks for him when I got familiar with the market Job 5: Tricking GMs into moving other people's boats (Don't try this at home). There used to be this scenario. People wanted to expand their deed in sea. But some random guy would have his boat parked there and quit the game so the deed owner was agitated on a boat being in waters he wanted to transform into land and build on. The GMs were usually declining requests to move the boats of a stranger in sea even if the water was now under the deed area of another. So what we did was terraform the area and fill it with dirt. Then the guy that had the deed would fence the boat. That's where my part would come. I would pretend to be the cousin of the boat owner and the cousin had to go offline for like 2 months because his parents had him grounded from wurm. I'd start a fight and insult the deed owner. He'd call the GM. I'd complain that the deed owner fenced my cousins boat intentionally. The GM would then proceed to move the boat out to solve the dispute in a beneficial way for both parties since both were paying customers. I usually requested 10c for this service. I found customers by checking twitter for new deeds popping up and if they were around waters I'd suggest the owner this sort of trade. Job 6: Salvaging deeds. Twitter is an amazing tool. It gives two powerful messages. When a deed is created, when a deed is disbanded. A new deed is usually built on top of land that has been under partial reconstruction. The new owner has not all his things secured correctly. He might leave an open cart outside the deed and go to sleep to continue working the next day. Or forgot to move some materials inside deed and so on. When new deeds would pop up, I'd sail there if no transport job was open and check if I could get something. The same would work with deeds disbanding. This was a bit tricker. Since there are others doing the same, looting disbanded deeds, I could not always go there first. So what I did was write down the house walls quality and damage and the deed disband date. I'd get a rough estimation of when the house walls go down and I'd be the first one to get into the house a month later to get the good fat loot that first-day salvaging crews could not get ( can't catapult the house in freedom hehe). Job 7: Heavy cargo transportation. Anyway back to main story. Finally I managed to command my knarr. I got my first big-cargo transport project which I failed hard since I managed to stuck my boat in a canal that was too narrow and too bugged for a knarr to move in and out. It took the GM 6 days to respond and fix my issue but since I was moving veggies if I remember correctly, the product got decay and I had to pay the securities to my customer. Things went good but just sailing around although rewarding it got boring after some months so I eventually settled down. (It didn't last for long though as I moved to chaos pretty soon and never came back ) The moral of the story There are always creative ways to make money in wurm but the right changes should be made to enable creativity to enter back into the game. The last four to five years the game has been moving away from diversity of options and into a very predictable gameplay style that favors instant gratification. To be honest, I enjoyed the game much much much more when I was a noob and was making my first steps in such a competitive market-trade scenario. Wish these days would come back

    The second day after I started the game (day two) my benefactor drove me to Xanadu from Independence. I wanted to go at it alone and get to know the game without normal help. After premming up and selling my referral, I had a grand total of 8.5s +1 silver since I purchased 1 month and 1 silver pack for 10e. My deed costed me nearly that much. After planting it I was left with about 10 copper (tiles purchased). I distinctively remember starting with a fence. I needed an area to sow my potatoes I found on an abandoned fsb which I took with me on my backpack. I saved some to cook myself some food to survive. After playing several hours, I was hungry so I cooked myself some meals with the help of some CA person. Thats when I found out it was useless since about 5 meals didnt even make a dent on the food bar. My first purchase ever was a meal. After being asked 10c for my meal, the person found out how new I was. He sent me two meals for 3 copper to hook me up. That lasted me a few days. My next purchase was sheets to make my first bed. I had no cotton and no skill. After that I was pennyless. My source of income became selling bodies to the deed token. 10i a piece. I scrounged enough money to buy myself some last minute necesities, but as a skill-less newbie I had literally access to nothing. After a few days of getting nowhere I bought 10 silver from the cash shop, which ended up dwindling into the market. But what if I had no rl money to spend on silver? What if I was your average player that pays for subscription and just play the game? Everytime someone says the game should be nerfed here and there to make the market suitable for a newbie, I remember myself subsisting on 10ql tools and having a hard time imping them to maybe 20. How many times I wanted to quit. Unless you can find a way for people to sell 20ql blank tools, the market is not for newer people. It just isnt. You need at least 70 in any skill to make a tool someone might even look at buying blank. You need at least 70 channeling to enchant. Anything anyone will pay for reliably. Its not a new players market. It will never be. The only way to introduce new players to it is by making it more affordable, and most people wouldn't let that happen because of their profits. Players come in, try it, and quit because the competition is months/years ahead for both buying and selling.

New actions to bind: ACTIVATE_TOOL_NEXT – Activates the next tool to the right in the toolbelt. ACTIVATE_TOOL_PREVIOUS – Activates the next tool to the left in the toolbelt. Both actions will cycle through the toolbelt when reading the respective end (next 1-9 back to 1, previous 9-1 back to 9). Holding ALT while scrolling will now cause mouse scrolling to ignore UI elements. NOTE: If the current live client is launched these actions and keys will be removed from the player configuration and will need rebinding upon launching the preview client again.

    The god of Wurm a.k.a. Bloody Drongo a.k.a. Emoo vs a lead developer a.k.a. Budda Hi everyone and welcome to another Valrei International! It's been a huge two weeks, with the metal crafting update, metal colours, AND dye-able armour! These are some extremely long awaited systems to be introduced, and I'm thrilled you're all enjoying them so much, from sails to scale, tools to, uh... everything else, these updates have everyone tinkering away and it's awesome to see. While it is something that's been long awaited and requested, it's by no means the only things on yours and our lists, and we'll be working on those systems and getting them out as soon as possible. So we'll be mostly recapping the past few updates in this weeks news, considering major content has dropped we'll be tidying up a bit (And releasing WU beta, I promise!) and taking our next steps too. But first... Patch Notes Mac client issues As many mac users know, we've been having ongoing issues with the client running on mac, and we believe we have found the cause! We had hoped to have the fix available for todays update, but unfortunately some last minute errors delayed it, but we will have this out as soon as possible for you all!. One thing that will not be possible on the mac client will be the accessing the settings via ingame. It's a part of why the issues were happening, so you will need to adjust settings prior to launching the game. That said, we are working on a system that eliminates the issue for good, but it's slightly more long term. We do appreciate your patience in this, and hopefully the new client will be out before any updates. The importance of bugs (or at least reporting them!) In all software forms, bugs creep in from time to time, and it's always a developers goal to reduce their impact and eliminate them, and this is no different for Wurm. We've seen a few circumstances where people have complained about a bug in a random thread, or other channel (IRC, Discord, In game) and question why it hasn't been fixed, and one reason for that may be that that's not where they are reported! We have a dedicated forum section for bug reports for many reasons: 1) It keeps them all in the one location. 2) It allows us to address each bug individually. 3) It allows users to check if the bug has already been reported. 4) It allows us to update the status or confirm bugs being eliminated. These are all extremely important factors, as our dev team monitors them specifically, checking for issues arising and adding them to our internal tracker. Now I know some bugs have been around since the dawn of time, (and rumour has it that Wurm was created in order to put those bugs somewhere), but it does not mean that they are not ever going to be fixed or we don't care. Reasons that would slow us down in addressing bugs are: 1) Not enough information in the bug report 2) No way to reproduce the bug and identify why it happens 3) Low impact, and it simply gets pushed down the list as higher impact bugs take priority. What you can do to help with these is simple, when reporting a bug, make sure to do it in the right place, and make sure to include as much information as you can, and please do not use the in game support system to report bugs, if a bug is sensitive in nature, or potentially abuse-able then a support ticket is best used, but if you use the support system to report other bugs, do not take offence if a staff member directs you to the forum, because that is the place to report them It is also very important that you report the bug on the forum yourself, instead of having a friend or staff member report it for you. The issue may be happening to you specifically, or the server you are on, the colour socks you are wearing or even what you had for dinner. The key here is that if a dev needs further information, the person who experienced the issue is the one they need to reach out to, not a friend of the friend who saw it or the staff member who heard about it second hand. If you still don't feel like reporting a bug, then there's no grounds to complain about bugs going unfixed, it's a group effort from players and developers, and we're shifting some attention to focusing on long-standing and important bugs over the next few weeks and months, so please, help us as much as you can, so the only bugs in Wurm are the six legged kind. Dye-able armour Hidden in a link in a previous Valrei International, dye-able armour is here! The types of armour that can be dyed are: Shields Helms and hats Chain mail Plate armour White cloth Leather Studded Leather Drake Hide Dragon Scale Here's a sample of some awesome dye jobs, from gorgeous to "your clown car uber is here sir" There's a lot to style yourself with now, so make sure to get out there and try it out, and to encourage that, we'll be giving away something shiny! Competition time! We'll be giving a rare long sword, and shield, made from the metal of the winners choice with 90 enchants to the best coloured armour picture, judged by the dev team. We'll be judging on colour, how it matches your armour and equipment, and how much it makes Saroman groans when he sees it. We'll be announcing the winner in the next Valrei International, so submit your fashion here: WU Beta Yes, we know it's late, with the metals and armour dyeing out, we'll be shifting all focus to getting that beta out for server admins and modders to break, it's been delayed a little longer to include the metal types and catch all that stuff, there's a lot in it and I know we've been rather slow in getting it out, but it's worth the wait, I promise! The next projects There are some projects in the works, and we'll be pushing forward with previously mentioned ones as well, the UI update being a large one, as well as animal crates and other things hinted at here and there. I for one am hoping it's more unicorns, I'm a big fan of unicorns and always ask for them! So get dressed up, slap on your most eye bleeding dye, and take pictures for us to mock enjoy!     I guess the reason it was reported in the Server Bugs section of forums is because people would like this bug brought to attention and fixed. There may be workarounds to it but it should not be necessary for people to constantly anticipate possible bugs and accept it as part of the game mechanics when in fact it is a bug.

    Its nice to have the village plan itself but it is missing something. And that something is the mined out caves under your deed so i suggest maybe adding that too the export function so that we can have a better view of our mines under the deed. It be perfect for those who sell deeds and want to show the on deed positions of veins without having to spend a lot of time and effort mapping out their mines.
