    Slain Affinity Greetings twentyeighteenians of Wurm! In this new year we have a change coming for those of us who enjoy the PVP side of things. It is no secret that there are those abusing various alternate player avatars for meta-PVP fight skill, and there is also the issue of abuse pertaining to killing alternate player accounts purely for affinities, so called 'affinity farming'. Changes are coming that will counter that activity very soon with the upcoming updates to the game. The new system will introduce measures against extreme abuse as well as create a new way for players to gain affinities both on PvP and PvE servers. These changes are expected to come into the game by the end of January. Until those changes are enacted we will be watching for anyone orchestrating ‘meta-PVP’ slayings for fight skill and affinity farming. Anyone found to be doing this vile ‘meta-PVP’ activity shall be banned! We have never been too thrilled with the ways a few people find to ‘game’ the system such as making deals with people to farm them for their affinities, or using VPN’s or proxies to the same ends. If it is not genuine PVP activity then do not expect us to look on it very fondly. As I said above, anyone working these kinds of ‘meta-PVP’ schemes for fightskill and affinity farming will be immediately banned from Wurm Online. Thank You, Wurm Online Team

    I’ll have you know I grinded to the top skills on Niarja, and I’ve been involved in numerous raids on Jenn-Kellon, and I have over 300 confirmed kill tabs. I am trained in catapult warfare and I’m the top archer in the entire server. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this server, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying that about me on the forums? Think again. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of priests across the server and your location is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm. The storm that wipes out the little thing you call your rez stone. You’re dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my beginner longsword. Not only am I extensively trained in weaponless fighting, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the crusaders and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable deed off the face of the server. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price.

    We've already stated that this will be looked into, I understand there's frustration in those who are abusing the existing mechanics to extremes though. We're taking a lot of feedback about it all on board and will have a solution that covers many aspects here, affinity farming, alt slaying for both fs and affinities, and affinities in pve. With that said, until this update comes out we will be taking a hard line against anyone slaying alts for affinities or fight skill, up to and including bans.

    I swear I wrote out a reply.. Okay, so this boils down to two scenarios 1) we announce a change is coming, and people rush to take advantage of this mechanic before it ends 2) we dont announce change is coming, the mechanic is abused, and people are frustrated because of no word from us. We've chosen to go with scenario 1. A change is coming, and a focus is on making affinities more engaging to get than just killing alts, and also reduce the ability to take this mechanic to extremes. with that said, to curb the inevitable rush to take advantage before this change comes in, we'll be coming down hard on anyone doing so, with the full understanding that they do it knowing the change is coming. The WSA will be up shortly, don't worry about that.

    Farming affinities from insincere pvp scenarios is not really a way for new players to catch up. What we will be doing is introducing a more engaging way to earn new affinities, while still allowing for affinities to transfer during actual pvp scenarios. You will still gain affinities from killing enemy players

    you can only have 5 affinities max per skill @MaurizioAMhow many converts do these alts have under /converts and trying to justify this as being good for the game with things like pumping money into it is just hilarious

    What amuses me the most is that you Ebo guys don't see anything wrong with that picture. That putting a character on a different kingdom and killing it repeatedly to farm affinities in such a blatant and absurd manner is completely acceptable and an intended mechanic. You stick characters in a safe cave and repeatedly kill them to circumvent an establish mechanic so you can get rewards you did not earn. Okay, yes. Some people do this as well. Freedomers sell affinities and come to chaos and kill each other for them, or their alts. One here and one there. Even some of the people here on this forum have done this in the past, myself included. And that has been pretty much the norm. For years. At least it was until you guys decided to go full metal jacket on exploiting for your benefit what was a normal game mechanic. If you had killed an alt here and there, people would had complained, but it wouldn't had been a problem, and it would had been left alone. But you took it to the extreme. You had to fill pages upon pages of tabs in a single seating. And then you complain about why the affinity faucet got sealed on you. Typical.

    Okay... I might be drunk BUT "while one person might be taking some affinities from another account they own that is so looked down upon" it isn't SOME. The last few days I've logged into wurm for like 3hrs at night on Launsel... those 3hrs are BOMBARDED with tabs of Ebo affinity farming of demondan and whomever. I mean 3hrs non-stop of just tab after tab for the last few days if not more. That isn't "some". Personally I don't care if someone buys an affinity here or there or pulls from 1 of their accounts randomly. But it is obvious when it is done more than a few times a week it is being abused and should be stopped, things need to be looked at and changed.

    +1 any change that stops this. Make it fair and how it should be. Look forward to the changes, this has been a subject I've been arguing on for a while now so i feel satisfied that we finally got a torch shined on a grey area. Alt abuse in ALL forms need to be taken down.

    When i started the game was told not kill alts because its against the rules. But time and time again i see people killing alts in chaos and for me it ....well makes me mad. Others do a lot of work to get skill...seems not all of are. Eaven killing for affinity gives u major FS. never done it my self but have seen ppl posting the ticks. So i ask can it be banned? or is it necessary for freedom to get them for marketing purpose? And before u start trolling me just have 1 affinity and will lose it when ....and if someone can kill me. If ppl need affinities because they are too lazy to skill they should not play the game. IF its not against the rules am gonna start too because its major benefit for the one who has them.     on epic gary has 160 affinities from pvp, at the start i lost more than i gained. i have probably the highest str on epic, at the start i had 30-40 while people thought i had 50+ this is known as "fake it till you make it" and make it by actually grinding. i got 90 med on epic where its way harder to grind than on freedom, oddly enough this was done by meditating like anyone else, i averaged 8 or so meds a day, and 80-90 alone took me months. my lowest shield skill is 90.32 and my highest is 99.98, how does this happen one might ask? by actually having grinded it and hunted with it, its not as hard as one might cry granted the shield training nerf was a bit of a bad move you don't have to cheat or exploit or whatever to get a great account. you don't have to cry that someone else did too to try to justify to yourself that it's ok for someone to do. people can and have been banned for cheating so odds are actually cheating is never a very good idea unless you don't value your account. also, because no one ever listens to this apparently, if you actually /know/ someone is cheating, you could uh, report them. there are several ways to contact gms

    i dont see a problem here... wurm is a game dedicated to rewarding the rich and screwing the poor... nobody wants to pvp because its all pay to win... not even slighly pay to win.... wurm is so far beyond pay to win its stupid... people can become instant pvp gods for 2500+ euros and never grind a single skill! just go to trades and buy a lambo pvp account.... the account selling is the underlying issue here... more affinitys and higher fs jacks up the price of an account considerably! many of the accounts i see in that list i have also seen in the past in the for sale section of the forums... there is no pride in wurm... you cant have pride in a toon you didnt grind lots of these people complaining about alt farming are 100% guilty of cheating and pvp'ing on toons they didnt grind... wurm is pay to win, sorry if that hurts your feels but even pve is broken due to the pay-to-winism that we call wurm

    I have to agree with Roninn here. Without clearly stating rules, competitive players (or players who just love progression) try to get the easiest way possible to proceed. Roninn's example is actually very legit, Shield training until 90 being easy and plenty of people "abusing it" becoming fixed. Those people stay at 90 and the newer players have to suffer from switching from monster to monster. It seems like its not completely abusive because you spend time actually using your shield. farming affinities from alts is very similar to that, no information about affinities is hidden, and having multiple accounts is naturally beneficial in wurm. Pretty sure more skills had undergo the same nerf. IIRC beverages used to be extremely easy to grind, but you just had to know how. making maple syrup or something of the sort by the gram because weight does not matter. Nothing here is a "bug," only methods to simplify the game. Those who found that out grinded their skill to 90 in bevs, and now the cooking system added more difficulty to making beverages. Same goes for everything with a cooking timer (more annoying for newer players). Even heard BC gains used to be easier, and then got nerfed. Yeah sure, the affinities apply to multiple skills, but the purchases made to get those skills are not much different than purchases to get other gear neccessary to perform grinds or pvp. Wurm is usually easier the more money you throw at it. Also, to all those that are saying remove the accounts that have been doing this, that is EXTREMELY immature. I expected more from a game that attracts a mature audience... Suddenly making up a rule for activity that has been going on continuously, and then stating that those who have done this before the rule was made should be punished severely? People paid for the benefits, and you had the option to pay for those benefits. Wiping their characters or simply banning them seems like the crappiest thing to do on players who are dedicated to the game. There should at least be a refund, these people have bills to pay . What if all the people who penned uniques and slayed them privately got their unique gear revoked from them after countless years and months of doing it, or even banned for ruining the experience for other players. Privately slaying penned uniques is not against the rules and neither is alt farming. But the majority can agree they are both ill-gaming methods. Note: If alt farmers do get banned, ban the private unique slayers. If alt farmers lose their skill, revoke all the dragon/drake related gear they have. Not fair if one happens and not the other.

    There is a time limit on Artifacts, it's called recharging. You have to do it every 2-3 weeks during certain periods of time. It was implemented when JK had all of the Artifacts and had no incentive to bring the non-PvP ones off-deed. If you were smart, you would figure out when these windows were, and as it drew closer, you would patrol around the WL or BL, as people have done many times since the timers were introduced. Quit trying to bring in other "issues" into this obvious problem that is being addressed, especially when they literally are already limited in the game by mechanics.

    To be honest, the strongest toons in the game are mostly on freedom, and didn't abuse FS / affinity farming. What does the strength / meditation / shield have to do with this new ruling, though?

    It's a bit of a grey area to me. and maybe a few others reading this thread.     Would be great to have a new vehicle - a mobile scaffolding. Could be operated similar to a catapult, height set by winching up and down. This way neighbouring mine collapses in high ceiling mines could be fixed restoring the original ceiling shape - and also creating high ceilings in already existing mines would be way easier than now.

    The other day I used my 95CoC puppet to bandage a wound, so I hereby demand that the entire dev team re-organize itself to focus on this priority 263 issue to save me from myself in the future. Due to the way puppeteering works I assume it's not uncommon for players to run around with their puppet as the active item, making accidental first aid use the number 2 cause of premature puppet deaths (trailing slightly behind Erotic Misadventure). Or perhaps just something like: if (bandage.getSpellCourierBonus() > 0.0F) { performer.getCommunicator().sendNormalServerMessage("DEAR GOD, NO, YOU'RE KILLING ME, WHYYYYYYY YOU MONSTER, WHYYYYYYYYYYY"); } I expect to have a dedicated team of devs working on this within the hour. Help me, Budda-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

    You do realise the PVE servers rely on the PVP servers for a lot of their trade - right? Also that most Chaos players travel back and forth and consider themselves just as much "Freedomers" as those that live there fulltime,they have their deeds and are apart of the community. The bulk market would suffer as would sales for tomes, scale, drake from uniques. Drake sets, platesets, weapons... you'd be surprised how many goods sourced on pve servers ends up on Chaos. Let alone all that bulk dirt. Your solution will cause more problems then it would solve imo.

    Unless I've misread it, it's only bannable until the update since the mechanic is changing and the temporary rule is to curb it and block people from rushing in as hard as they can before the update

    Just wanted to add that despite being in an enemy kingdom to many of this hunting group they accept and trust me, they are a great group of people and it is disappointing to see one or two individuals trying to slam a large portion of the community of Deliverance for what is essentially just greed. I remember the day I nervously asked if I may join when I first started playing Wurm Online and they accepted me in with open arms. If you play actively on Deli and are reasonable, friendly and not looking for trouble then this is a group that will accept you. The loot system is different, but fair. It means everyone who helped gets something rather then just relying on whoever has the most money to bid or the rng of who found something first. Everyone in the team is happy with how things work. I don't understand why people outside the hunt team critisize the way it works either since essentially it really doesn't affect them at all.

    Where is my artifact? Hello? :^) Just a reminder that TC are not the only kingdom that disagrees with the alt abuse going on in that cave lately. There is a large population of players that can clearly see the game is not being played fairly or the way it is intended and those players stem from all kingdoms (even the pve side). I've even heard complaints from players within your own kingdom. So lashing out at TC or a few individuals just because they are against what you are doing really is not all that fair. These people see a flaw in the game design and are trying to get it changed and fixed to make the server better. This is not some kind of personal attack. It's done now, there has been a ruling that it has to stop so let's just move on rather then trying to justify it by picking holes at unrelated aspects of Chaos (such as artifacts).

    Sure, sounds fair to me. Let's start with removing the skill gained from people who killed alts for FS (and affinities?). There's a lot of skill gain methods that were easier before, but harder now. There are also skill gain methods that are easier now than before. That's just how the game works. The game is not 200% polished. It couldn't have been 10 years ago, it can't be now, and it certainly won't ever be. That's not possible. You just need to adapt, and that's what players who have been playing for literally a decade have done. And to be fair, accounts that were able to take advantage of a majority of the skilling "tricks" you are talking about are almost a decade old already, and it would take the same 10 years of time to catch up to them now, even if they were to stop playing, simply because of the sheer time difference. That's what happens when you get 10 year old characters playing alongside 10 day old characters. You can't fix that, especially not in Wurm, because it would be unfair to those who have spent a huge amount of time on their account. With that said, there have been a motherload of changes, especially as of recently, that have made Wurm easier for newer players. The Tutorial, starter gear, huge villages on Freedom, Wiki, a massive amount of priests selling enchanted gear for next to nothing, sleep powder, toggle-able sleep bonus, 10 hours sleep bonuses, food affinities, skill grind charts, WU Datamining, Keybinds, dirt leveling, seryll, non-nerfed stat gain for priests, etc, etc.... I could go on. I think you just need to stop worrying about trying to catch up to accounts that are much older/more skilled than yours if you do not have the dedication/desire to grind, because there's more to the game, especially in PvP, than out-skilling your opponent.

    It is not about the affinities. People need to stop being so short sighted. It’s about how the game keeps changing to make things more difficult on newer players to skill. I wonder how many people have done AFK shield training up into the 90s for instance. It was not considered a glitch until much more recently. Good luck trying to do that now. This is about keeping a level playing field. The funny thing is I have not personally collected an affinity for quite some time it’s more the idea of the whole thing. How the strong players (cringe) like Bloodmaster have taken advantage of many skilling tricks possibly glitches which are no longer available to players. If you are going to change things like that you need to remove the skills that were gained by exploiting these tricks.

    when I got bloodmaster he was 47 body str and 1 affinity, maybe 2 and 78 fightskill but Now he has 38 affinties and 90+ fightskill from pvp and none of that came from abusing mechanics.

    Psychologically, it would make more sense to have the common or simplest tasks first. Have you ever had that moment where you take on a task and accidentally start doing the most common thing rather than aiming to complete the task? Happens to me frequently when doing homework for prolonged periods of time. I would be integrating one moment and after doing it 10 times in a row, I would keep doing it with the values given infront of me even though the next question is clearly asking for derivation. Pretty sure wurmians have spent more their time making planks, thus making more logical (not wogical) to make the planks. Besides... how the butts do you even make yoke with a saw, let alone by accident... Im not carpenter but it seems difficult o.o

    That is something I can agree with. Activate square pieces of cloth and right click ANY alcohol to make a bandage that is 1.5x better than regular cotton. Alcohol has "saved" man in many ways irl. Of course that would only make beverages cooler, not alchemy.

    Also had same issue as Maiya. Had the update, and was fine, but then logged out for awhile and got an updated driver for graphics card (NVidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti) and then could not play afterwards (white screen and totally frozen). I ended up having to roll back my graphics driver, and now I can play again. For what it's worth.

    Not seen an official response to this issue since Sept 30th. Is Wurm over? It sure feels like it for some of us. I spent a lot of my days/weeks trying tons of combinations to discover a solution, yet there seems not to be one. Hopefully the next patch is a solution? In the mean time, several of us are off playing other functional games. Don't get me wrong, I love the amazing progress devs are making, but at some point, it is really ok to slow down and focus on some game stopping bugs.

    i do agree the detailed healing is great. the potion could perhaps be consumed (heal a random wound?) or soaked into a bandage to increase its healing potential? increasing the use of alchemy doesnt mean stoping the use of healing. not to say those kind of potions might be heavy (possibly 1-2kg each), so cotton and HC would still be best, and potions usable as an emergency only. since you wouldnt carry 20 of them around.
