You know... there is that old discussion about Wurm winter! Some of you hate the snow season because of its brightness, some don't like its textures, others feel impeded when doing their highly important Wurm jobs. But there are also many others who just love this time of year when the winter sun shines brightly through snow covered trees, making our usually dark forests shine and sparkle with incandescent beams of light! I am one of those: I love Wurm winter with its beautiful snow covered landscapes and forests! Here are some of the awesome pictures I took yesterday - and I would like to encourage you to add more! (I didn't want to spam the general screenshots thread with winter pics, so I created this special place for the beauties of winter.) Feel free to post more pictures celebrating the beauty of Wurm winter!

There are some people who say wurm's graphics are old and outdated. I simply do not agree with this opinion. One of the reasons I chose wurm over every other game because i felt it had more realistic graphics. Please Devs, for the love of all things sensible; if you do any updated interface/graphics, don't fall into the trap of making things 'cartoon style'. I love this game how it is in Winter .... Spring, Summer and Autumn.

It occurs to me that there is scope for some new skills in the metal working area .. There are many different forms of casting, some medieval even, many items which could be cast, especially thinking high difficulty stuff such as statues and ???? .... and there's scope for associated skills such as mould making https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casting_(metalworking) A quick search shows this ties in with several other suggestions as below and going waay back

Hi - I would like to suggest that one of the creative (and overworked!) Devs has a look at marble items to improve the textures and colours for consistency and/or variation of choices. There are 3 marble items here - bridge wall and marble slab paving: http:// Here again, the marble brazier and the marble horses/ planters do not match - either consistency needed or choice of colour/texture would be good: It would be great if the height of walls to be used between bridges could be looked into as well, as previously asked for: Many thanks, in hope....

If it were me, I'd remove failure entirely and allow imp sizes to drop to 0 (i.e., at some point you can't imp at all unless you get better tools/more skill). Failure seems a petty frustration in imping, since imping balance simply requires time. Imping a tool from X QL to Y QL with skill level A and tool QL B should take Z time, and you can implement Z time with larger imps and more failures, or smaller imps and fewer (or no) failures. Based on my own experience grinding mining before and after the Epic update, I know I much prefer small, but steady gains over larger but more RNG-prone gains, even if the overall gain for time spent is exactly the same, (and that applies to imping gains as well as skill gains). In short, failure feels like a punishment for playing the game, which isn't a good thing if you want more customers. By the way, any reason tempering fails so much? Whenever I'm doing any imping involving tempering, I dread it, because it seems to fail far more than any other imp type. And since water is 100QL, that seems odd.

Hi. Sorry, but I feel like ranting! Somewhat constructively. *gesticulates heatedly and puffs hot steam out of nostrils* We (a group of three wagons) just lost 3 x 12 x 15 dirt/sand when we loaded our wagons on deed and then went to work on a highway, off deed. (large crates from crate racks straight into wagons) This is not right! I don't know the exact moment when the decay tick hit us, but the journey was about 5 minutes and during that time we lost almost two crates of supplies. And it's not the first time. Dirt, sand, mortar, bricks, everything can and has gone POOF! Same thing for ships. Who thinks it's fun to lose several crates of mortar as soon as they leave the safety of the deed? Nobody does! Think about traders, think about those hardworking highway builders. Resource equals more than just money; it's life, it's time, it's... mental health! Please address this issue, I am sure it's not unknown and has been reported before. Thank you! /Shmeric

I stepped on a tile in the middle of nowhere while hunting and got this message: Congratulations! You have just stepped on and crushed an invisible wish granting fairy! Unfortunately, we could not save it, but it did ask us to give you this. Please redeem the coupon and enjoy. <here is the code>. Has anyone experienced this pop-up message before? I tried to redeem the coupon, but it says "This key is not valid or it has already been redeemed" (replacing any character in the code returns the same message). I tested the same tile with different alts (prem and non-prem) and didn't get this message, so I guess I was the first one. If not, could the lucky one share what was the mystery item? I'm really curious.

I have an absurd number of animals on my deed and I dont come anywhere near close to my ratio limit. In order to have wild animals become a problem, you deed must be loaded. There are three mechanics already in place to fix your issue: extend your deed, reduce the amount of animals you host on your deed to improve your ratio, or cull the local population of wild mobs. I understand that its an inconvenience, just as its an incovenience for people to encounter mobs on the wild while cutting wood: Its an inherent feature of the game and as a result of an intended mechanic. The solutions provided appear workable on the surface, but they are not. For one, as it was mentioned before, counting only branded animals on deed would be extremely exploited, where people could pen absurd amounts of mobs (cows and sheep for milking or shearing, bred horses for sales, workable breading programs, people penning champs and other rare creatures) without any consequences. Then they could simply brand their favorite mount and wagon pullers and never even come close to touching the ratio. This would render that mechanic useless. Then there is the problem of those who -do- want unbranded animals to get deed bonuses. The branding mechanic on Chaos and Epic is pretty much useless. And even if it wasnt, branding horses its moot since they have to be replaced at an alarming rate on pvp servers. Even on Freedom, people who do regular breeding rather not brand horses that are going to be sold/gifted. Its just extra work that in their eyes is not needed. This will be particularily more an issue when the animal cages come into play. This is a double edged QoL change, and this is why I dont see it being implemented. When the proposed changes bring the ability to exploit a game mechanic, you practically guarantee your suggestion is not going to move forward, and this suggestion did just that. And if you think no one will take advantage of such a thing, ask JakeRivers about his infernal farm of hops that caused him so much grief when the change to that mechanic happened. People in this game simply have no limit. In the end, having such a tight ratio is intended to force you to do your work. Just as I have to waste time and go through the hassle of feeding my pen training trolls so they dont bash out, so must you have to either keep your ratio down or regularily cull the local wild population. At least until a better suggestion comes to light.

I don't post in this thread very often (I do pop by to admire your guys screenies though!), so forgive me for spamming so many pics at once. These are from the Ultima Nostalgia project I have going on in Wurm Unlimited, the aim being to recreate Ultima Online as closely as I can. Yesterday I finally completed Dagger Isle and Dungeon Deceit. Here are some pics of those:

While I'm thinking about it, it would be cool if when you Examine an impable item, you get reports about imping viability, for example: "You see a lot of areas to improve on." "You have no idea where you would even begin to improve this item."

****Please see 1st comment for all update information postings**** Just a heads up, I am taking a break from Wurm to get my business off the ground - Jackjones will continue on with the map updates & is currently revamping it all together. So please be patient while he does so >>>>>XANADU MAP HERE<<<<< How do you get a deed added or removed? Adding your Deed You must be the mayor or have permission to request deed be added. Map updates will be made every month if not more often just depending on amount. Single click anywhere on the map. Your clicked map coordinates will appear in the lower left hand corner on your screen. This will be your deed's coordinates throughout time, map dump to map dump. Post these coordinates below and we will add them to the map asap. Check out full instructions here : How does this work? Removing Disbanded Deeds We will update the map every other week with any disbands, if you know of any who are on the map as of now please post so we can get rid of them. (It should be up to date with any posted on the forums since May) Adjusting a Deed If your deed is currently on the map, but the coordinates are off please post that it is an update "To deed name" and not an add so we can just adjust the current mark. Adding Market Annotations Markets are now able to be seen by a white border around their marker. In order to qualify as a market there needs to be a minimum of 6 stocked merchants. While small sales areas are lovely and a great assest to traveling players, at this time only those deeds who offer multiple merchant options will be marked special. This will possibly change in the future with coming updates/colors. Alright so this has bothered me nearly since I started playing Wurm Online, the lack of support for letting us having custom textures for the game. I understand that this is because that it could offer an unfair advantage in PvP situations, but I have a suggestion about that matter. If the support for custom textures were added to the game, there could be two ways to avoid PvP unbalance due to them. One could be that while on PvP servers that the texture's being read would be ones in a seperate graphics.jar that if altered, would not let you login to the game, or is forced update like the current scheme that works for the graphic.jar now. Another method could just simply be that you could not log into any PvP server while having altered textures, essentially blocking you from going there ingame, or logging in from outside the game until you update your graphics.jar. While I do know this creates more work for the already stretched thin dev team of the game, it could offer a bit more flare for players, and open the door to more community interaction for exchanging graphics.jar files or if the way the textures in the game were changed to allow this to be a bit easier to do, "texture packs" much like how Minecraft's community works on that matter. Gonna include a bit of a spoiler of what is already possible on Wurm Unlimted due to this feature being available there I know very many of you will say you don't think this is an improvement to the game, or even so far as to say it's ugly as sin to you, but to me... it makes this game, so much more cheerful for me to play in And I hope that this idea is considered, remember, any textures would be possible then, even more realistic ones... or even just wacky stuff for your own weird senses of humor

The Basics So one of the most common things new players want to do from the start of the game is to build a house. Building a house is no simple task for a new player playing Wurm. Currently this game isn't something you can just pick up easy and start without some long grind and insane crafting mechanics that puts off a lot of new players. I think the new player experience is something that should be looked into to make it easier and to educate players better. I have some basic ideas to help with this. Currently wood plank structures take to long to make and require many materials. So I have a solution. Allow new players including free to play build a new wooden shack, log cabin that requires hardly any materials and doesn't require planks or nails. Nails require iron and that is a chore for a new player to figure out, 20 planks required per wall is quite insane with starting characteristics as well. When I first started playing it took me days to build my house! I simply ask why scare away people? With that said, allow players to plan a 1x1,1x2, etc up to a maxium of a 4x4 log shack/cabin. (Maybe limit them here on size.) They will last longer than a tent obviously, be simple to create (requires no carpentry level), emphasizing easy creation timers like no more than 10 seconds per action. A place to store stuff that'll prevent theft which is generally a issue. I think you should only be able to create one per character as well. Allow the use of raw logs say 10 per wall, and mixed grass for a roof/floors, 5 per tile. These wouldn't decay on deeds if you build there. However it would have mild decay off deed. I think wood piles should randomly spawn in the forest maybe containing 2 or 5 logs each, maybe low chance at some kindling potentially. They should spawn rather commonly as well. I feel like this is a fairly simple tweak, the wood piles spawning shouldn't replace woodcutting, but it should help new players get a hold on the world around them without making them use Wurmpedia for every little thing, or remain clueless on how to highlight and fell a tree and logout. (Trees should have a highlight!) Keep the quality of them low, but the quality should have no bearing on the creation timers for wooden cabins/shacks. Also allow people to pick grass, it should work similar to "take," highlight the grass tile and you'll have some grass in your inventory this should give no skill. I'd also suggest to ability to find some early food and first-aid items from doing this like a pumpkin or cotton on rare chance. Cooking is another matter which I'll go into soon. Keybinds & Settings The default keybinds in Wurm are a bit odd if you ask me for the normal PC gamer! I can tell you a good amount of Wurmians do not utilize keybinds, I do think that's because of the the status bar. I'm not a fan of it either. However I don't really want to get into it a lot here so let's talk about take and movement. Maybe update the "take" default keybind so "take" is easily accessible. A great keybind in my opinion would be "Q" since it's near WASD - I would also remove the (turn left & right keybinds from A & D) as well. When I first came into this game I thought that was insanely confusing when you can simply use the mouse to change perspective. I spent a great deal annoyed by that until I figured out how to change it, back then we were blessed with the console. Right now we have a new settings panel, however there is also huge delay opening it which should also be fixed or better yet, incorporate it into the client instead of a random window pop up. I would also like to mention that you should consider allowing people to change from left mouse click to right mouse click to change camera perspective, most games use right mouse click! (Also consider adding mouse sensitivity options in the settings!) Make food simple Cooking was a huge update that I feel is a hit or miss for a lot of players. It requires some intense focus and it can be very time consuming if your going into it blindly. I still use a guide and notes for it myself! For a new player that has barley any idea on the basic systems of this game it's an absolute nightmare for them to make some basic food that actually feeds them. So I suggest bringing back entry foods like a potato or a pumpkin that give modest CCFP and a decent nutrition level - let's say 30% that doesn't take a half hour to eat and fills you up semi-decently, or require multiple servings. No affinity should be given. Eat a pumpkin in real life and tell me it doesn't fill you up! Back in the day pumpkin was a great item along with cotton. It was simple, and it worked. The UI & Tutorial As much as I want to discuss this, I feel like it's in the works already from information stated from devs in the past. Nothing much I can mention but the game totally needs attention for these two things. Have any other suggestions or room for improvement, thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Please comment thanks!

Some opinions on the topics of the last two videos: From Wurm Online | A Road to the Labyrinth [Bonus 13] New skills: I agree on both of your points: Yes oh yes! I would LOVE if we could write and read books, I really miss that aspect from UO. And you know, after playing that game for many years and out of all of the treasures and cool loot I had accumilated in the game worth millions and millions in UO money, you know what items in my chests were the most valuable in the end? MY BOOKS! Books that had been written for me and given as gifts. When I lost all my stuff due to a bug (and stopped playing after that), it was the loss of the books I felt most devastated by. And yes, naturally you could put books into book cases there as well. The way it showed visually was that the bookcase could have two states with two representing textures: empty or containing books. A practical and optimized way to do it. Here are some screenies: Love Letters See the little red books in the pouch below? By double clicking those open (I guess in Wurm it would be right click and "read"), the book would open up as below. Books were used for many many purposes in the game. People would make tutorial guides, write histories of places and people, write novels, use them as "letters" to give to others. In the case below, it was a romantic gift saying something along the lines of "here is the key to my heart" and then there's a little copper key in the pouch. Labels and Descriptions Or else in the case of this public aquarium, the little books on the tables had names, latin names and descriptions of all the fish (that I just invented myself). So immersive and fun! Public Library And yes, you could copy books as well, so before I opened a public library, I went around to all the other libraries in UO (I was certainly not the first person to make a library!) and copied novels and guides from the books I read there and ended up with quite a nice collection! Guestbook or "leave your order" Or in the case of this shop we had. See that book with a pen placed on top of it? That was a guestbook for visitors. Some books were the kind that anyone could write in freely, others were only writable by the owner. In our case, we could set the permissions. Then the book on the floor was so customers could leave orders. User manuals and Tutorial books Or how about this manual on how to use the public sauna I built? Some user manuals were taken from "historic famous NPCs" from the ultima games and were already pre printed and planted in the game, they could not be overwritten. Fiction, non fiction and Biographies etc Smut!!! And how about dirty magazines using ASCII code "pictures"? And these were just SOME of the many uses players had for books. So if Wurm devs just hear books and think: "Meh", think again! However I do agree with Adam's point as well. Instead of new skills, shouldn't we try to expand upon on already existing ones? In the case of books, you saw above just how many player to player interaction possibilities they offer, so why put that behind a skill and restrict the very thing that would promote players interacting. No, I wouldn't attach any skill to that what so ever. Perhaps papyrusmakers could also make books however, and those books could be sold for anyone to write into. Glassmaking About glassmaking, I somehow doubt we can have anything such as glass in Wurm, the game does not seem to support anything that has very much transparency (probably due to performance issues). Village progression Love that idea! Diving under the water I totally agree!! I even mention this in one my first Wurm videos about my deed. I think I said something along the lines of wishing I could dive underwater and grab clams from the seabed or something like that. Troll Huts, camps or small villages that spawn randomly and can be taken down I love that idea! From Wurm Online | Tis the Holiday Season! [Ep. 14] Will people use Saddlebags? Hell yeah I will! I never enjoyed travelling with a cart or wagon, I always felt so vulnerable when doing so since they move so slowly. So whenever I'm venturing farther than the border of my deed, I only travel by horseback or by boat. So for me, the saddlebags are like a dream come true. Brian remember that for you guys, 1. you're veterans of the game with high skills and good gear. 2. You're already completely comfortable with the game and know all it's ins and outs. 3. you guys are most often traveling together (at least that's what we see in the videos) so you can always work together to deal with mobs. So essentially, venturing out into the wilderness and defending yourselves against mobs is easy peasy and causes you no stress. But do you remember how scary and intimidating it is when you're a newbie? Remember how it feels to go out alone? Hell, even though I've been playing for many years already, I'm ALWAYS scared to go out adventuring, still to this day. Mainly because all of my wurm time goes to building and crafting and rarely to killing stuff. So I don't have sufficient fighting skills, I also don't own any good armor or weapons nor do I have the skills to craft them. So while you guys can whack a troll down with a blindfold, for me if I see a troll, I run away screaming. Different Wood Types As cool as it is that there are different wood types and as much as I'd like to see them returned if it were done in a smart way, this feature is not without problems The obvious one: smart use of the devs time + amount of textures we can have in the game. The visual aspect of wood types has always been a very "wishlisty" kind of feature for me. While I REALLY appreciate that different wood types having different functionalities, the visual differences have been kind of "meh". Maybe because the old textures were so darned ugly and I was kind of relieved when the new beautiful "standard" texture replaced those. Personally, I feel that there are so many other visual things that I'd much rather see devs working on and taking up resources texture wise than this. The thing with wood types is that for you to truly enjoy their possibilities, you need to know beforehand what each woodtype looks like on that specific item. What helps even less is that they didn't seem to have a very consistent or standard style and always seem to look kind of different on different items. (For instance cherry might look great on a boat, but like crap on a barrel) And if you're a newbie to the game and happen to pick a wood type that is mega ugly, it might be disheartening to choose the wrong one. Imagine just finishing your first boat after slaving away on it for days or even weeks, and then you add that last ingredient and boom! The boat looks like crap. I only say this because this is something I experienced a few times when I was still a noob. Once they replaced the textures with one standard one, it was kind of a relief since making a wooden item was not a case of doing my homework each time to hunt out the visual differences of the various wood types anymore. I could just make the item in peace and knew it would look good. Unless they make this affect every single wooden item in the game, it will also be distressful to not be quite sure which items will be affected by "the last wooden ingredient added" and which not. I guess it's a bit late to give these opinions, so if we assume by default that they are coming for sure, where to draw the line on which items get the treatment, which don't? My opinion is that by no means should all items have it. Instead, draw the line on the "vanity" and "personalization" aspect. So if the item is something that gives "showing off" value (carts, boats, wagons, wooden shields, wooden types etc) then by all means, allow the choice of wood type. But if it's something mundane like bsbs, crates or furniture, or something that is hidden from public view most of the time, then no wood types and instead just make sure that the standard wood chosen for that item looks nice. Hitching Posts Yes, this is still valid for the visual and immersion aspect. And functionality-wise, it would still be super useful for those players who don't own deeds, but would like ride to someone's deed, dismount and explore the place. And it would just look SO cool. Especially since Wurm always looks so dead due to lack of NPCs strolling around, so seeing horses hitched in towns would give some "life" to the place. PS: Ultima Online will be going free-to-play this spring, you guys should go check it out.

+1, always thought that food should fill a player based on weight alone. Nutrition, CCFP, and affinity should be the only thing based off that recipe system. Some people are trying to survive while others just thrive.

If they'd remove leaves from the trees that shed in autumn, I'd enjoy it more.

It's the spirit templars and ofc the option where don't attack hostile creatures is ticked. We have been breeding hell horses no problem but up until recently we haven't been taming them because we didn't want to use our breeding stock for pvp. Guards won't attack the other hell horses, only as they untame when the player in question is offline when it untames. So just to clarify. Spirit Templars attack the hell horse of an offline player as their hell horse untames. The spirit templar is ignoring all other hell horses and hostiles - that is working normally. We have lost two extremely important hell horses due to this happening

really i would hope the 30 day decay timer should be reset when on deed and only start again as it leaves. i do feel it's an unfair expense to have to take 5-10% more goods than required 'just incase' it happens before you make the trade. but at least it doesn't get a tick on deed, which it used to do for many many years. so something is better than nothing i suppose.

That definitely hasn't been my experience. We have NPCs who have been around for almost a year. It was only these two new ones that I altered in the database that disappeared, and I have no idea why. But NPCs usually don't disappear on restart.

I have had this happen several times to me. I have worked on projects in my perimeter, and open the crates... 270 dirt. I lost an entire crate of dirt from the 12 crates in my wagon. This happened twice. I have heard of it happening with wagoneers as well.

This is what stands in the way of making many things better in online situations =/ Take for example even big name mmo's like WoW, they balance things around it being fair in PvP, till they finally took a hint and have almost entirely split PvP off of PvE in the game now, was their best way to sidestep the issue... But I digress, I +1 this, even not for the reason brought up, we're getting into an age where anyone should be able to render further, with modern tech anyway, may as well let us be able to just to make the game nicer while playing, and as stated before, if you don't want to, you can turn the setting down.

+1 If and only if running away from them in a fight makes them ram you down extremely hard (5s stun). 10 ram hits resulting in a title "Stampede." Or anything fun really... animals are currently boring even trolls now.

Little statistics about how many users the program actually have, based on 2.8.10: In last month, around 300 unique users used the program in total In last week, around 150 unique users used the program in total In last day, around 50 unique users used the program in total These numbers are much higher than I expected, especially for daily usage. Including older versions and current trend actual numbers are most likely 50-100% higher. Thank everyone for your support! When it comes to development, I had to put everything on hold until end of January - due date for my engineering thesis is 19 January, so all my development time goes into finishing and polishing it. I expect DeedPlanner development to return back to normal after graduation.

This "bug" has existed since 1995, and has never been exploited, as far as anyone knows. Serious people testing the fix has seen almost no performance issues, and normal pc users won't experience any issues. As for Wurm servers, I doubt there will be problems as well, as only heavy (as in continous small) I/O operations will affect performance. Also, the worst bug, The Spectre exploit is much more nefarious and impacts Intel, AMD, and ARM. So the thread title should be changed. AMD is vulnerable to Variant 1, which is a Spectre exploit. As noted above, many contend that Spectre is not likely to see an effective patch any time soon, and some researchers claim the vulnerability exists in every modern processor architecture in existence. They also claim that fixing the issues could require a redesign of fundamental processor architectures Tilde: The world is not going under, 99% of users won't be affected at all.

New Head GM Good afternoon Sklotopolis! Breaking news, Sklotopolis has got a new Head Game Master. Since Engineer is working mostly on everything else but Moderation stuff on the server he stepped down from the Head Game Master position. Wreck has been part of this server for years now and has taken up most of the moderation work in the last months, because Engineer and Dominikk have been very busy with general adminsitration things, modding and real life. So it was just a matter of time until Wreck would fully suit this position and be ready for taking the Head Game Master position. We congratulate Wreck who has been appointed to the rank of a Head Game Master of Sklotopolis. Congratulations! Head GM Wreck

The final Random Enkounter of the year 2017 was held on Xanadu. This Random Enkounter has been brought to you by The Ocean. "Yes, you swim in it, you sail across it, you even drink from the edges of it, but remember this surface dweller remember it well, we creatures of the seas pee in it!" This has been a message brought to you by The Ocean! One day it shall rise! "Water always wins." - The Doctor Ihy and Taphera was the local active residents to participate. I wanted to celebrate by having them face 2017 challenges, but that would take about 4 months so might be a bit too lengthy an ordeal, so by the randomizer Ihy and Taphera faced 4 random challenges! #1 Is there an Eclipse in the sky of Wurm Online today? Taphera was deep in a mine and guessed no. If Taphera had waited only 8 minutes more to answer they would have been incorrect! #2 Get 20 stone bricks in 3 minutes! Taphera was unable to complete the challenge. The Mighty Seryl Night Light of Bug Zapping had to be tossed into the void. At first glance you might think it was simply a spider and cave bug repeller, but that is not correct, instead what it did was send out a bolt of lightning and instantly cook any spiders within range leaving you with not only an instant edible trail snack, but often leaving behind both charcoal, and either a lump of gold, copper, or seryl formed from the blast. #3 Name the Head Game Master of Wurm Online? Taphera had 2 minutes to answer but did not fall for this trick question and answered correctly in less than 15 seconds. #4 Kill all 17 Dragon Fang Beak Klaws to prevent 2018 from being delayed until January 3rd again! Ihy assisted as they apparently had strong reason to leave 2017 and would not tolerate it sticking around any longer than absolutely necessary. They made short work of the cogburnably* stubborn manifestations. For their 2017 Enkounter items! A set of rare horse gear! A storage bin full of building materials, and a hearty supply of sausage and egg biscuits with new years cake! *no that is not a word, please stop looking for it. However if it is a word....too bad! I used it here first!

It is only an issue because you are not willing to do what is already in your power to solve the problem. You were lucky that prior to the animal movement update you didn't have animals wandering on deed. Now you do. Animals are meant to move around. We have ways to limit their travel, use them. And also, how is your deed animal to tile ratio so poor in the first place that random animals are causing you such problems?

Thanks for your error report. Actually I can reproduce this error; it seems the WU server now exclusively locks the file stats.xml, so that WurmClock is unable to access it as long as the server is running. I will try to speak with the Wurm devs about this, and hopefully we will find a solution. In the meantime I'm afraid WurmClock cannot be used with local servers.
