One year ago today, on 26 Dec 2016, I installed and logged-in to Wurm Online for the first time. I lasted maybe 30-45 minutes before I logged off and said "no thanks". But something made me log back in a little later, and it stuck. Over the past twelve months, I have enjoyed the company of new friends, both on my home server of Independence. and elsewhere. The WO community is strikingly friendly, helpful, resourceful, and skews much older and more mature than other MMORPGs I've played in my lifetime. I have encountered players who play 12 accounts simultaneously and power game to its fullest, and I have encountered folks who spend so much of their time just helping others to achieve their goals. I think this is a very giving community, and for the newbie who sticks it out, there are a lot of great things to be had in Wurm Online. Special thanks to all the people who answer questions all day. Whether they're staff or not, a lot of folks have spent time to help me along the way, patiently answering question after question, explaining concepts, and sometimes re-explaining concepts When I was starting out, people like Archaed and Hannaliese and Mitzie were so generous with their time with me, and I thank them. And for fun, an excerpt from my very first /tell conversation in WO, with @VirusMD: Logging started 2016-12-27 [04:45:57] <Virusmd> i take it your new, what server are you on? [04:46:38] <Finndar> Been playing 6 hours, yes. Independence. [04:46:51] <Virusmd> you got friends there? [04:47:47] <Finndar> New to the game. I don't know anyone. [04:48:32] <Virusmd> you try asking around for someone who operates a deed for newer players? [04:50:26] <Finndar> Dude, I barely know what I'm doing here. There is SO MUCH to learn. Just taking it one step a time right now. [04:51:30] <Virusmd> ok well indy is the oldest server, its the most used/populated generally so there should be alot of ppl there willing to help you out, a good step at this point is a safe place to base from [04:51:41] <Virusmd> use your freedom channel, thats server specific. I offer space to new players, but im on Pristine, its not hard to switch servers thoe [04:51:52] <Virusmd> im sure you noticed how easy is it to die early on [04:52:30] <Virusmd> it is alot to learn, its fairly intuitive once you get the basics down [04:53:33] <Finndar> Death and I - we are well acquainted today *laugh* [04:53:35] <Finndar> THanks.

Today I was thrown over to Elevation again and found a community of people busy at work polishing walls. Allenfulblade, Annyil, Gamba, and Jaz participated while the rest went back to polishing walls. They had to endure 4 harsh and unusually cruel challenges. Challenge #1 Inventory Item time! Does any of them have a long bow in inventory? Arghh! Of course they do! Oh well, random! Challenge #2 Make 20 felled trees within 4 minutes! They were surprisingly good at this and completed it in just over 2 minutes! Wish I could get them over here to make firewood for the winter. Challenge #3 Name the company behind Wurm Online and name its CEO? They knew right off that it was Code Club AB and Rolf Janssen Challenge #4 Fend off 3 waves of Rodent Infestations or they will eat them out of house and home and their houses and homes! Wave 1 - Field Voles! These armored rodents were little match for the fighters as they were determined not to let the fresh coat of paint on their houses get scratched up. Wave 2 - Gophers! These frantically nosy critters liked all the soft soil around their homes and were eager to dig around and suck all their stone work into the earth below where they could use it to sharpen their teeth. Alas... they were quickly dealt with by the group. Wave 3 - The Arachnorats! Oh boy oh boy oh boy.... these 8 legged rodents just love chewing on second story roofs as that was a very comfortable height for them. With a huge swarm of them attacking at once, Allenfulblade worked to pull some off of the group, but his survival was in question. While he worked to lessen the load, the rest of the group strategically retreated to a mine to heal up and work on some strategy. Gamba just barely survived the retreat. Even while the others were trying to sew Gamba back together again he was busy thinking about how good some Arachnorat stew would taste. Allenfulblade became separated from the group and was fighting off 4 of the sizeable rodents by himself. Gamba tried his best to help when he got there, but without a horse, his sword just could not reach up high enough to hit the beasts. Jaz and Annyil finally made it around and saved Allenfulblade from having his brains sucked completely out by the ravenous rodents. The group then tried to split the Arachnorat infestation up and take them out as efficiently as possible, unfortunately they survived... I thought for sure at least Gamba would be killed .... The group celebrated prematurely not realizing that another group of Arachnorats were laying in wait somewhere. After a short hunt, the group found two of the Arachnorats hiding among the camellia bushes laying traps in hopes of eating the group one by one at a later time. Finally one Arachnorat remained......somewhere..... The hunt was on! It turned out that the final Arachnorat was on the run, heading south to get more reinforcements. They engaged it on the peat field and put an end to the infestation. For now.... For their random items, a table, some bowls, a rope tool, a bunch of fence bars, and slabs of marble, some rugs, and some spaghetti and meatballs. All the makings for either a petting zoo, or a nice outdoor Italian bistro. "<Gamba> my only reward is knowing i didn't die a horrendous death" Sigh.... I will have to try harder!

For those who haven't seen, Finndar took up a massive project, without any fanfare or self-promotion. I think he deserves a pat on the back. The next time you're in Dragon Fang Pass remember all the work that he put into leveling and reinforcing the entire thing.

Finndar..... you are way too modest mate! Your contributions to the community on Indy are becoming legendary. WIthout being asked, you showed up and offered to help me with the "twinning" of the East Crystal Highway from PsychoDads down to Oak Harbour in preparation for the new Cats Eye system last May. Without being asked to do so, you installed a massive CEH (Cats Eyes Highway) network on the east of Dragon Fang Market side thru to and including the Grand Steppe. Without being asked to, you upgraded and improved the Dragon Fang Pass Highway cave tunnel. .... and those are only a few of your contributions sir, which make you such a wonderful member of our community. Thank you for being such a helpful and most generous soul. Warmest regards! Hughmongus

WurmMapGen Interactive tile map generator for Wurm Unlimited servers Download latest release | Install instructions | Github repository Based on WurmMapGen by Garrett94, this updated version adds a lot of new features and configuration options, coupled with a major rewrite of most of the underlying code. I plan to add even more features and options in the future, based on my own ideas and on suggestions from the community. Instant search - Find deeds, players, structures... Real time player markers - If enabled, shows where every player is on the map as they move around. Uses WurmWebRMI. Extensive configuration options - Choose what data should be shown and how the map should look. See all configuration options. Multiple marker types - Don't like the markers? Use labels instead! Read more. Modern UI - The UI is constantly being improved based on player feedback. If you encounter any bugs, be sure to report them either through the forum or as an issue on Github.

Ok, so through several days of archaeology and restoration, I finally get my hands on 3 x butchering knife blade fragments. To make things more fun, I took a recently recreated branch and recreated crude knife to make my handle. [23:46:08] You successfully recreate a butchering knife blade from the fragments. [23:46:39] The bent blade of a butchering knife. It could be improved with a lump. [23:46:39] A single zinc rune of The Scavenger has been attached to it, so it will reduce weight (10%) and increase size (10%) [23:46:39] A single lead rune of Magranon has been attached to it, so it will reduce the quality change when repairing damage (10%) [23:52:02] You get a branch. [23:52:04] You get a crude knife. [23:52:09] You start to work with the crude knife on the branch. [23:52:15] You create a shaft. [23:52:28] You drop a branch. [23:52:32] You start to work with the crude knife on the shaft. [23:52:39] You create a handle. [23:52:51] You drop a shaft. [23:52:56] You drop a crude knife. [23:53:02] The handle and the butchering knife blade contains too little material to create a butchering knife. You need to find larger parts. This is a sad day, since the runes really seem interesting, yet likely the Scavenger rune is keeping me from completing the knife. *edit* Any chance that recreated weapons/tools can be complete instead of a blade? Then we could keep the neat runes that come on them.

Been having to use this command a lot lately clearing a mine i'm working on and its great but there's several irksome things i would hope would be easy enough quality of life changes. 1. Add a keybind 2. Make it independent from mind logic (i.e. let us discard 100 at once if we want) 3. Allow it to be done outside inventory on items that are on the ground. 4. Let us do it from horseback/vehicle. The pain of having to stop, pick up piles and right click discard 8 at a time (less for the average player account) and repeat process repeatedly feels needlessly tiresome. Pleases and thank yous.

I've updated the generator and tweaked a few things... Can now pass name of config file as parameter to the jar, should make generating multiple maps in batch easier Added focus zone markers on the map (currently no build zones show with a transparent red color - other zone types can be tweaked in CSS) Added highways view Updated the colors for all new tile types I'm currently using this for my servers, you can see an example of all the features here - https://otherlands.bdew.net/map/walden/ Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gbamfmkyroz4cxy/mapgen.jar?dl=0

Today the Random Enkounter randomizer landed me on Xanadu where I found Theicefox feeding his herd of cattle with hay, or a hay substitute... After giving him the full disclosure of how to play he had to face 4 random challenges! #1 Get 26 logs in 4 minutes! With 2 minutes and 57 seconds to spare he succeeded! #2 Tame 3 animals within 5 minutes! This was not much of a challenge! The animals were all right there within arms reach! He passed this challenge with 2 plus minutes to go! #3 Where do the gods call home in Wurm Online? He knew the answer to this one nearly instantly. #4 Defeat the three waves of demons! Wave 1 - Cave Demons. This wave proved to be a decent challenge as he had to call in a priest to reattach his missing body parts. Wave 2 - Web Demons. The second wave proved to be even tougher than the first as the clutch of Web Demons were expert marksmen with their attacks. I was beginning to wonder if he would even stand a chance at wave 3 and I had no idea what would be in wave 3 yet! It took quite a while to dispatch these Web Demons, and it was a good thing he had all those animals on hand in his yard for spare body parts as he was losing his left, right, and below. Wave 3 - Ice Demons! If you could see the fanged smile on my face when the Ice demons arrived and he had no choice but to seek safety and try a new strategy! "<Theicefox> in the words of indiana jones... Why'd it have to be snakes." "<Theicefox> ruthless reptiles!" In the first hour of battle only one of the Ice Demon brood lay dead on the ground! As the battle continued hour after hour, I wondered if his healing supplies would hold out, and if his priest would give up and leave him to his fate. Day passed into night, and night passed into day as the battle continued. I even saw one of the Ice Demons take a nap in the middle of the melee! That could not be too encouraging for Theicefox! He may not have most of his original parts now, and he may have gained a tendency to moo now and then, but eventually, through sheer determination, he bested the Ice Demons! For his random items he received boxes. Useful boxes too! In fact one had dirt in it, one had some gold ore in it, another had peat, and another had some bricks. He also got a stool, a mallet, and an anchor. Plenty of stuff to set up a small pirate boutique on a tiny island near the shipping lanes. He also received some cheese, and bacon, along with an extremely fine fork!

Since most people add as many ingredients as possible to increase difficulty most meals are way to big to fit in the picknick basket. This is fairly often on my mind and increased volume for a basket that would hold enough for a family lunch in the park seems logic. +1

Fixed with this patch: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/160032-patch-notes-23dec17/ Notes can be 200 characters long without being removed now since the fix. You may still need to use some shorthand with your notes in order for them to fit, but what you can type in should be saved.

I come to Wurm for a relaxed atmosphere and the fun of medieval times. I don't come to ponder my very existence and it's correlation to biblical events or whatever you were on about. I get it's for entertainment but most of that just didn't make much sense.

I don't think the caravan station art is in WU yet, is it? Never mind, it is. Hmm, i'll consider it.

Awesome job Bdew. Due to it functionality being based off the highway system I would recommend changing it slightly. Instead of building a portal build a caravan station. Same function just different graphic and name. If possible, change pop up to say ride with caravan to instead of teleport.

5 hours sleep bonus due to the skill rollback from last update has been awarded to all accounts Player god missions should no longer spawn on Freedom. Instead of being individually added upon branding, creatures will now have a special role for citizens with brand permissions on a deed. This will mean a citizen leaving the deed will revoke all permissions on branded creatures. General Fixes Bugfix: Permission window for bison should now correctly say Can Lead instead of Can Ride. Bugfix: Fixed the issue with slay champion creature missions not advancing. Bugfix: Libila animal sacrifice missions removed from Freedom.

if you have a 3x on a skill on epic it will not update on transfer until you remove it. If you have 20 blacksmithing on epic, die and rop to 19.75, cross back to freedom, grind blacksmithing to 100, and go back to epic, it will be 19.75 until you remove the 3x and cross again. This is specifically to avoid jumping across to refresh.

My guess is: When you right click your body in your inventory tab, you have the ability to create a "group", which you can rename as whatever you wish. It creates a container type effect in your inventory, allowing you to organize your inventory better. Anyway, someone (accidentally or purposefully) activated one of these "group" containers and used it to bash floors with. In turn, it seemed to have altered the ql of the "group"/container. The bugfix, I assume, is prevention from allowing you to do this altogether.

Investigating on old disbanded settlements has a chance to yield unique items What is an "old disbanded settlement" precisely? Is there a time frame for it, as in time since abandonment? On old servers, everything is old disbanded settlement if you look back in time far enough.

Yeh, I remember those days. I also remember it not making a blind bit of difference to my survival chances because, back in those days, I couldn't ride a damn horse. Either way, if I was carrying over a certain weight, I was a dead man, whether I was running along a road or through a forest. Actually, back in my day we didn't get such nice free equipment or even the damn aggro reduction buff so death was a frequent visitor till we got the tower up. In fact, walled off "deedforts" (also known as dead zones) were more of a problem than a forest ever was, at least from my point of view because they often looked like safe havens and turned out to be anything but. It didn't before and it is unlikely to do so now.

/me looks at his shovel with zero enchants and tries digging Hey, it still works, even without magic! I hope this patch is helping the Wurm enchant&bulk market. While I do understand that many people have spent a lot of effort and time to "get that perfect tool", it still should not last forever. Nothing should! Next on list: develop climate change and hurricanes to help with erosion (for real, that'd be fun).

  42. 1 point
We really don't need to know that each bsb shelf is the same wood as the bsb rack itself or that each shelf is a bsb shelf, we pretty much know this already. When we rename it could we have the shelf show just the name we want instead of adding it to the end, this makes for some very wide windows when opening these racks and I rather see everything nice and narrow.

PoK Brainstorming Fresh Page Deletes the target's current affinity and allows it to return naturally as a new random. Requires confirmation from the target. Does not work on targets with more than 1 permanent affinity. 1 day CD. Effectively the same as when a freedomer goes to chaos to die once to remove an unwanted affinity, but without the death part or giving the killer the old affinity. Forgetfullness Causes the target to forget their weapon skills (including weaponless fighting for animal targets) for 5 minutes. 2 hour CD. Would likely need a code split for pvp. I don't pvp so I'm not sure how over/under powered this would be. Inspired Learning When a "moment of inspiration" happens, the player gets a skill tick for the skill in question, no matter the outcome of the action. Passive.

hi could you maybe make all abilities work somewhat like this? basically split every ability up in 3 ranks, with every rank making the effect stronger or adding new bonuses just an example for the rage ability being something like this Rank 1 - 2x bonus to bashing, no bonus to siege engines Rank 2 - 3x bonus to bashing, 10% bonus to siege engines Rank 3 - 4x bonus to bashing, 25% bonus to siege engines or the attention to detail ability Rank 1 - +1 radius to prospecting, +2.5% higher chance for rarity rolls Rank 2 - +1 radius to prospecting, +5% higher chance for rarity rolls, +1 cr Rank 3 - +2 radius to prospecting, +10% higher chance for rarity rolls, +2 cr these are just examples would be more work for devs but would feel great for when you're progressing and getting better/unlocking something new every level

Love path I suggest to remove tile enchanting from meditation and give it to every player through some other means, be it runes (if rift resources stop being limited) or something different. The reason for this is all other meditation abilities are focused on the character, while enchanting is focused on "deed-building". It isn't anything game-breaking so could easily be made available to all. I know there're some people offering this as a paid service now, but they're very few and usually don't travel far for that anyway. Path switching While 1 week instead of 24 days is pretty good, I want to sugegst a new mechanic: instead of leaving path and then choosing a new one, meditate on a new path tile to get an option to switch to this new path, losing half your levels (rounding up or low). For instance: Switch at lvl 6 of path A to lvl 3 of path B Switch at lvl 11 of path A to lvl 5 or lvl6 of path B
