Hi everyone! After a few hiccups we're pleased to see the new huge update live! There's all sorts of things, from highways, to crate racks and new fence types, so let's get to it! But first... Patch Notes Highway update We've been busy setting up all starter towns with the catseyes and waystones. They will extend into the perimeter of all starter deeds allowing you to connect them to your highways. The highway rules will continue to operate for a while, we'll give notice when we begin to phase them out and replace them with the updated ruleset to incorporate catseyes. Map dumps! As promised, we have the new map dumps to coincide with the release of the highway update! The map dumps were taken earlier in August and we're currently looking at adding a new dump type into the roster showing off highways in the next rotation! The folder of all dumps can be found here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6J_aGQ6URL8UURFN2VadWxtSWs Unstable client With todays update the unstable client is very close to launching as the stable client. While we will offer the stable one temporarily as a legacy client, it's really important you test this as soon as possible to avoid any major issues when we switch over. For info on what feedback to leave and how check out this thread here: Blossom voting The blossom starter deed design contest is now open for voting! I think all designs look awesome, and I'm keen to see how wins! check them out and submit your vote here: Battle bards! This week I was shown a little podcast by a group that covers MMO music, and this time they checked out the Wurm Online soundtrack! From Gurubear's quirky songs to the atmospheric soundtracks by Tom E. Morrison, Check out the podcast here: https://biobreak.wordpress.com/2017/08/16/battle-bards-episode-103-wurm-online/ Community content This week the factional fight guys check out one of the surprise additions to this weeks update and talk about how it impacts the game for them, what's your favourite part of this update? That's it from us this week, we'll continue to monitor the update and take any action necessary over the next week. There's plenty more in the works as we've hinted at before. What is it? You'll just have to wait and see... Retrograde & the Wurm team

I want a rack that you could place at-least 3 Bulk Storage Bins on. I think that would be a fair amount without going overboard, it would also help with the clutter problems some people have (like me).

It would be a great thing to be able to rename the shelves of the awesome large storage units - just like we can do it on larders. It would further add a bit to their usability.

I'm gonna counter this new rule with an old old old rule. People are responsible for their reputation, and as was mentioned in this thread, there are more than a few jokers who find nothing more amusing than griefing perimeters which has a way of ending with a ruling against the deed owner for some reason (including one known repeat offender given CA rank and whatnot, don't PM me about it unless you're someone in staff willing to properly look into it for a change). You wanna use a certain highway? Don't piss off people in the area. Wrongly KoS'ed? You had no plans to stay in the area to do bad stuff anyways and anyone can outrun a templar.

Not a biggie at all. Was wondering this morning if it's ever confusing for new players that a lot of veggies (and cotton/wemp) have a "pick seed" option, but pumpkins have "crush." Add to that wemp crushing gives fibre, as opposed to wemp pick seed. I would imagine crushing a pumpkin would give me pumpkin fibre/crushed pumpkin. If only for the sake of consistency, I propose a minor cosmetic change in the menu language from "crush" to "pick seeds" for pumpkins to bring it in line with other items.

There is quite a significant change between the old and new rules, the section on KOS from the current highway rules: and from the new rules: Spot the difference? Under the old rules the the highway could be on the first tile outside the deed, under the new rules it needs to further away. For some situations this difference will be a big deal - it might be difficult to move a highway due to geographic restrictions (squeezed between the deed and mountain for example). I also the village setting: I hope this now defaults to prevent highways - otherwise it is highly probably a mayor who is currently away, and has people on KOS, could return to find themselves with problems caused by somebody upgrading an existing highway that runs within 3 tiles of their deed. Just noticed rereading the doc that there should be a message to prevent this from happening, if there is a KOS list, but still think the default should be to prevent the building within 3 tiles.

So, Rhea gave me an idea. She mentioned in the Tapestry Competition thread how frustrating it was to limit the contest to ONE ENTRY per person, when the very nature of the contest got us all juiced up with crazy ideas. So ... consider this an OVERFLOW thread, of all the things we WANTED TO ENTER BUT COULDN'T, because of the rules limitations. "Mystic Unicorn," inspired by a WU project: This a variation of a 2014 post I made about Deity themed tapestries, which Evening's incredible tapestry reminded me to work on again, it is a collection called "Four Deities", which is based of digitally altered screenshots other players have taken over the years of the God Avatars in the game. "Birch Trees On Red Tundra" IF YOU HAD EXCESS IDEAS THAT YOU WERE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER DUE TO CONTEST RULES -- POST EM HERE!!!

As I continue work with the Ultima Nostalgia project (in which the entire server is one huge deed), I'm getting more and more requests on YouTube and elsewhere from people who would like to live in their own house on the server. I suspect that a lot of these people are Ultima players who have never tried Wurm before but who would be willing to buy Wurm Unlimited to live in a place that looks like UO and is populated by other Ultima fans. Obviously, since they've never played Wurm they don't really understand how deeds work. So I've tried to explain the problems of letting them live there. This got me to thinking about permissions. We can set permissions to houses, carts, boats, fences, mounts etc. But what if we could right click and set permissions to TILES that are within one's deed? This way, deed owners could: Create various empty plots - allowing "anything goes" so players could build a house from ground up, farm etc and anything they wished - so sort of like a mini deed inside a deed. Create a public mine that allows players to mine and pick up ore, but doesn't allow them to load a forge onto a cart Create wood chopping forests, keeping the forests and trees of the rest of the deed safe. Create public farming land And I'm sure there are many uses that I'm not even realizing at this point It would be up to the deed owner to mark these areas somehow with fences or signs Right click tile... Set permissions from a popup Coordinates of tile can be seen in the title to ease remote management Tile could be named to better keep track of which set of tiles (Plot 1, Plot 2, Public forest, Public mine etc) they belong to PS: Before posting this, I checked to see if there were any other similar posts, and I'd just like to point out that Enigma_Prime is suggesting something similar. Please go and check out Enigma's post as well. I decided to make a separate thread about this since what I'm asking for is slightly different, has different mechanics etc

We're nearing the final phases of the 4.0 client as the unstable client, with the shift from unstable to stable occurring very soon in the near future. Before that happens, we want to give you all the opportunity to trial the client and provide any and all feedback on performance you can! When reporting issues, you'll need to provide a few details Computer specs (RAM, Graphics, Processor, Operating system, 32/64 bit) Client logs (this also shows us settings) Screenshots of any visual issues If you do encounter issues, we'll be working on addressing them and may need your help testing them out on our test server too. Remember, this is your last chance to trial the client and provide feedback on issues before it becomes the stable client, and while we will have the current stable client available during a limited time as a legacy client it's better to find out some issues now before they impact play! Get the client here: http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp

I think it is not really a bug but a difference compared to the stable client. The water is way more transparent in the unstable client than in the stable one. It is a bit confusing looking at the shore from about 20-30 tiles distance it is quite hard to tell where the water ends and where the land starts if the slopes are low. Also a bit strange too see the deep sea bottom being very sharp and clear. During the night shallow water is quite invisible due to the same reason.

So im rolling along thru the southern desert, and what is that i see over a small mound of sand, it looks like the top of a pile of items! From what i can tell someone died out there and lost a significant amount of shiny stuff. Without going into details i roughly found: 1x Supreme tool 3x Rare tools A set of WOA Horse Shoes A set of slightly damaged medium q studded, with med AOSP. and about 10 other misc tools. Unfortunately it looks like most of the tools were purchased i could not find a consistent creator among any of the gear for clues to ownership. If you believe this is your gear send me a FORUM MESSAGE with a list of the tools mentioned and ill gladly return them. For now there all safely tucked away. It was very likely in the last few days, its a fairly traveled area, also if anyone happens to have seen the corpse earlier could maybe PM me a name?

While I understand that there are recipes that can use Olive Oil, when a recipe calls for 'Cooking Oil' I cannot use it. I think that should be changed. Stop the discrimination against Olive Oil!!!!

you can destroy the catseyes and remove the tiles. Destroying one removes the links and they decay rather quickly when not complete (green linked)

The new mechanics prevent highways from being made impassable, while they can be dug they cannot be dug further than 20 slope (28 diagonally, 14/14) meaning that at all times it remains able to be walked. This means that a highway protected by catseyes cannot be destroyed without removing the catseyes. The rules had a lot of grey areas, and created a lot of paperwork for the GM team, who had to spend a lot of time running around and chasing up modifications,. This places more control back in the players hands, allowing them to build these roads and protect them without requiring the GM team to constantly monitor them. This is a mechanical replacement for the rules, and we're aware that there will still be some need for rules around highways in regards to griefing and destroying them without reason, but every 2 tile wide road will no longer be protected and the amount of GM paperwork will be reduced, allowing them to spend more time helping players with other issues. TL;DR There will be a transition period, and some rules against needless griefing will still remain. Not every 2 tile wide road will be protected and GM's wont be needed to okay their modification or removal.

I was just representing the hole in my understanding should it hold relevant repercussions. as i said, many of us have designed our deeds so that our highways are not on-deed but are on the perimeter. i believe that a great number of complaints will come from situations such as this. *tips hat*

Trellises. Brian you asked whether we were aware of the whole trellis ordeal. Nope! I was just like you, just thought of trellises as pretty wall decorations. I had absolutely no idea about the whole growing and harvesting / almanac thing. But so great that you guys made this video as I'm pretty sure there are a lot of us who didn't know either - and well now we do! PS: I really love it when you guys ponder these types of things out aloud, as I think for a lot of us, we are "alone" in our wurm fandom and can never chit chat with any of our MMO friends about these things, so watching you guys talk about it is almost like being able to be part of that conversation.

On the subject of the UI I thought of something similar to Kegan. Have a tool active and left clicking something will perform the primary action for that tool and object. To change the action hold left click and pause briefly will open some menu whether it's the old right click menu/ radial menu/ mouse gesture menu, and allow a different action to be chosen. Now just left clicking will perform that action until you change it. for example activate a sickle and left click a tree would default to Harvesting. To change to Prune left click and hold briefly will open a menu, left clicking "Prune" will perform the Prune action and set Prune as primary action. Now just left clicking a tree will repeat the Pruning. I'd also like to say how much I hope that keybinding actions remains part of the interface that would be a big loss should it go.
