Info below is outdated. Read further in the thread for more detais. Downloads here: https://github.com/bdew-wurm/threedee/releases Super unfinished, no prototype yet. Might or might not ever actually happen. Right now it's just that one table, i turned it into a container and the first item inside will be shown on top. In theory i can extend it to other items, but they need to be manually chosen, container-ified and the Z offset determined experimentally (since the server doesn't know anything about models it can't know how big a table actually is). The item can't be pushed/pulled (will always be on center of the table), and for now can't be rotated (though i hope to remedy that). Bigger tables maybe will get 3 slots for items, like left/right/center.

As I continue work with the Ultima Nostalgia project (in which the entire server is one huge deed), I'm getting more and more requests on YouTube and elsewhere from people who would like to live in their own house on the server. I suspect that a lot of these people are Ultima players who have never tried Wurm before but who would be willing to buy Wurm Unlimited to live in a place that looks like UO and is populated by other Ultima fans. Obviously, since they've never played Wurm they don't really understand how deeds work. So I've tried to explain the problems of letting them live there. This got me to thinking about permissions. We can set permissions to houses, carts, boats, fences, mounts etc. But what if we could right click and set permissions to TILES that are within one's deed? This way, deed owners could: Create various empty plots - allowing "anything goes" so players could build a house from ground up, farm etc and anything they wished - so sort of like a mini deed inside a deed. Create a public mine that allows players to mine and pick up ore, but doesn't allow them to load a forge onto a cart Create wood chopping forests, keeping the forests and trees of the rest of the deed safe. Create public farming land And I'm sure there are many uses that I'm not even realizing at this point It would be up to the deed owner to mark these areas somehow with fences or signs Right click tile... Set permissions from a popup Coordinates of tile can be seen in the title to ease remote management Tile could be named to better keep track of which set of tiles (Plot 1, Plot 2, Public forest, Public mine etc) they belong to PS: Before posting this, I checked to see if there were any other similar posts, and I'd just like to point out that Enigma_Prime is suggesting something similar. Please go and check out Enigma's post as well. I decided to make a separate thread about this since what I'm asking for is slightly different, has different mechanics etc

I feel that many people play this game for the novelty of how WURM works and the fact that you have pretty much full freedom to do what you want when you want with specific limitations. However, it has been my experience, regarding WURM, that there is an issue with player community. The players themselves do what they can to promote community and the devs have done a wonderful job improving this area yet to me it seems that it still lacks the "Let's be togetherness". I believe this idea that I have about the ability to "sell" property to players if they wish to be a citizen of a settlement can help with this shortcoming. Selling property with preset permissions that come with being an "auto citizen" lets individuals get to know others by proxy of purchased property. Essentially the community stems from being neighbors. One of the walls I have found as a deed owner is the fact that I have to "get to know" anyone and almost everyone that I add as a citizen. I would have to spend a considerable amount of time with an individual, as a deed owner or an individual that is capable of inviting strangers to a deed, in order to fully know if they are trustworthy enough to not seriously grief/damage everything on my deed before giving them the permissions that they want as part of a deed. All the while the individual wanting the benefits of my deed, and the community that comes with it, will have to wait that considerable amount of time to do pretty much anything on deed while they craft and build things off deed (wasting their time in my opinion). This may not seem like a problem with settlements that have a population less than 5 however when it gets to the point that the settlement has 10 - 20 or more then it gets annoying. As mentioned before as a settlement mayor it is hard to justify the time spent getting to know all the individuals that want to enter my deed. It is time better spent enjoying all the facets of this game that I have yet to do. This is only my opinion but the micromanagement style to deed owning is arduous. This issue is reduced a little with the ability to sell property that I allocate on my deed. As the mayor (or anyone authorized to do mayor things) I can then set certain permissions that automatically take effect as soon as they buy the property (and become a citizen of the settlement) just like it is set up now. The benefit of this situation is the individual that purchased the property can do what they wish, how they wish within the confines of the purchased property and its set permissions. The ability to sell property on a deed alleviates the issue of "trustworthiness" of the individual and enables them to gain the settlement benefits they so desire all the while putting a bit of currency in the coffers of the deed (the purchaser will still have to adhere to and be aware of any taxes that come with being a citizen). It is no secret that WURM also lacks anything that can be considered an economy. It has been mentioned by the players and the devs uniformly that the trading system between players is... clunky at best. The idea of selling property will benefit to the inevitable solution by creating a bit of "cash-flow" through the settlement. The Mayor (or authorized citizens) plant a property marker, sets the price and they are done. As soon as another player "purchases" that property marker funds are debited from the players account and the deed coffer is credited. Now this is in no way to be a huge effect on the problem but does introduce motivation to both purchase and use in-game currency. So this is all good but how would a system like this be set up? Good question and I have thought about this quite a bit: 1) Mayor (or authorized citizen) sets up permissions for a "New citizen" just like they do now. This will be what they are allowed to do anywhere on the deed (Pick-up items, not pick-up items, Lead, not lead, dig, not dig, etc.) 2) Set up a "property profile" for different types of property (what the purchaser is allowed to do within the confines of this type of property) Similar to the "New citizen" permissions however will include subjects such as maximum slope allowed or maximum building height for example. 3) Purchase a property stake from a trader (or make one. this would be entirely up to codeclub) 4) Place the property stake. Now this seems simple however I have thought about just letting the "marker" be in the center like the deed marker but considering you are dealing with a much smaller area (I'm thinking minimum 5x5 tiles with a one tile [or more] perimeter) Having a marker in the center where you cannot build anything would be annoying. So the solution would be to place the marker and have a UI that would allow a 0 to be placed in the fields asking how far north/east/west/south you would like the property to be with a minimum of two fields filled in and a mandatory perimeter (minimum one tile). 5) Apply a "property profile" to the marker and “citizen type” they would become if purchased. 6) Set Price 7) Player purchases property That's it. As soon as the purchaser buys the property they are now a citizen of the settlement (which is set with the "property profile") and can freely build within the property limits (also set in the "property profile"). From here on it is up to the new citizen to get to know others do good things for the settlement and gain more permissions or higher citizen ranking along the way. I admit there are a few more questions that need to be answered that are more difficult to deal with and ultimately, if this idea takes off, would have to be debated. However this is the gist of the subject. Some questions that I had a hard time confronting: 1) If an individual purchases property then quits playing/doesn't follow the rules/irritates the other citizens; do I as the mayor have the right to revoke their citizenship and take their property? A: If the property was rented you could as deed owner refuse to continue contract after expiration. 2) If, as a mayor, I have the right to take their property how does codeclub prevent mayors from stealing your game currency by booting the citizen out as soon as the transaction is complete? A: The mayor would be bound to a "rental contract", as it were, and be unable to cancel the contract until the agreed upon time is met. The deed owner would also be unable to disband the deed until such time that all rental contracts are expired. This would alleviate this issue. 3) Would a purchaser have the ability to purchase more property and if so how would I prevent them from “land-grabbing”? A: All properties are by contract and a default of one contract per toon. It would be between the deed owner and the renter to allow for a bigger plot. 4) Would a purchaser have the right to develop the property then sell to another? If so does the second purchaser become a citizen? and to this if so then what level of citizen? A: No, however one could allow the rental contract to expire therefore allowing another individual to rent the space. 5) Can purchasers "sub-lease"/share the property? A: No 6) After purchasing; would the purchaser be able to add others to the property and set permissions for them? A: No EDIT: It has bee pointed out by Vanyel that renting spaces would be more viable and I agree. EDIT 2: If you like this idea you may like this idea as well

I would like to make this post to follow up on something, Wurmhole brought up in his thread: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/154981-a-new-player-experience/ I've been playing this game for just about a month now, and I have had quite the journey. I started based on the recommendation of a close friend, and decided to drop a deed in the middle of nowhere because I like my privacy while getting to used to a game's mechanics. My friend sponsored the deed for me, so I could go into the entire experience with 20 Silvers for my deed creation and things didn't seem too bad. I started with mining, and when I couldn't find iron for a long time I asked in CA HELP what I could do and learned about rummaging from 3 different people. Later, a developer himself messaged and explained how rummaging works for getting iron in the beginning. Additionally, I was contacted in private by two more people who asked where I was at and offered to get me started with some iron and basic things for free. Unfortunately I was too isolated to accept this offer, but I was amazed at how much support the community provided. When buying premium time, or trying to, I was unable to do so and kept getting an error when trying to pay. Again, my friend jumped in and got premium time for me. At that point I decided I should try to get to know this community a little better and applied to be part of a deed with a new alt I created so I could be social with one and hermit with the other. Again, buying premium did not work so my friend got it for me. (Yes, I have provided the funds for her afterwards.) I applied to join a village that seemed promising with RP aspects and a lot to offer, and got accepted, so I went to the closest starter town and began my march to that location about an hour's walk (mostly on roads) away. I got there and contacted the mayor through forums, as he was unavailable in-game. After waiting a few days without being able to catch the person, I started getting a little impatient. After about two weeks I finally managed to get one of his villagers in local, who explained he isn't playing a lot at the moment, and also described having the very role I had been accepted for as well. Two days after that I became frustrated and asked the friend who brought me to the game for an invite to her deed and made my way over there. At the same time, I discovered that the spot I had chosen and spent a few days getting to for my own deed was miles and miles away from any clay, and too far out to get anyone there for a mailbox cast. After a few weeks of struggling, I have disbanded the deed two days ago. Fortunately my friend willingly accepted the both of my characters into her deed and I am living with her now. On the way there, I got hopelessly lost a fair number of times, a few times finding my own way again, but mostly being supported by random people who saw me in Local and immediately said hello and offered guidance. I was provided location information, a link to the community map for Xanadu, and even a free ride over to Newspring Island where my friend is located. All of this by complete strangers with no obligation at all to aid me. Some gave me free meals, others offered advise, and a few just provided encouragement but all of them were friendly and immediately willing to help out a new player. I discovered a passion for mining, so my friend gave me an enchanted pickaxe (teaching me about enchanting at the same time), and when I tried to buy a fast pickaxe to make my life a little easier, I got a 33% discount from the seller just because. This way I was able to afford a really nice pickaxe and didn't even lose the entirety of the 2 Silvers I was gifted when first buying premium time. People from my new alliance have since answered every single question I have had, making CA HELP almost obsolete, and the village I have joined provides anything I could possibly need. In my opinion, Wurm Online is a very difficult game to start with, and 16 euros every 2 months for every character seems like a lot of money and definitely makes you think twice. Spread out over two characters (and I have been told most people play more than that!!), that equals a fee of 16 euros every month just for playing the game and all its features, not including any deed maintenance or in-game currency. I have read debates about the cost for premium time here on the forums, and my opinion is clearly: It is expensive. Is it too expensive? I do not feel qualified to tell. In the end, I bought it and I will most likely continue to do so for as long as I enjoy the game. Back to the original point, it is a tough game to get into, the tutorial provides very little guidance as to what to do and I actually accidentally skipped a large part of it because I didn't realize I had to trigger the actual parts of it by walking near it, making it a less than ideal scenario for such a challenging game. Nevertheless, with almost constant support of the players, I was able to accept the quick loss of my first deed (it was just too challenging to be out there all by myself) and find something I truly like doing. For less than a month's playtime, that seems acceptable. Have I fallen in love with Wurm Online already? Perhaps. But one thing that is certain is that I have definitely fallen in love with the generous staff and the amazingly supportive players the game has to offer. Of course there are things, such as the tutorial, that I think aren't quite inviting, but in the end what kept me interested through my first month was the continued assistance and encouragement I received from almost everyone I met. Due to this, I can not say that I agree with the new player experience being unfriendly. If anything, it is very warm and welcoming in most cases, I dare say. Certainly, Wurm Online is not the most "new player friendly" game I have ever encountered but after looking at the game mechanics and the kind of people who play it, I am not sure whether that might not just be a good thing.

In addition to this, may I suggest that when dropping several items close to a tile border, have all the items pick a tile and form a single pile rather than split up. This often happens to logs when chopping them sometimes leaving a single log on one tile while the rest end up on another.

This would be absolutely amazing! I was killed by so many things so far that I have stopped counting and I have absolutely no idea how to get started. Since we can make an empty almanac and write on paper was thinking about the addition of just normal empty books that we can write in for notes, stories, treasure hunts, etc. Same concept as almanac, but make the book so we can title it (rename) and then put paper in it to write on. Would give little more worth to paper making skill also. Keep the part were we can make folders and we can use that for chapters. Can go even further and let us put books in a bookcase. How about if you have very high paper making skill (80+) then can copy books.

I'd love to see different stone choices for the forges, ovens, smelters, fireplaces, kilns, Guard Towers, mail boxes, fountains, wells and anything else I'm missing. The rate Devs are going on adding these new materials to things, I'd honestly be surprised if they don't have this in the works, but just in case they don't, here is the suggestion.

The farming page states that getting info from a cultivated field, only comes starting at level 10 (farming skill) and onwards. This is not true. At level 5 (farming) i can get a mousover -when standing on a plot- which states: - the type of crop - what stage it is in (freshly sown halfway or ripe) - wether the field is tended or not. This seems quite different from the info stated here: https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Farming , subsection "Examine details". Cheers, Krets.

On the subject of the UI I thought of something similar to Kegan. Have a tool active and left clicking something will perform the primary action for that tool and object. To change the action hold left click and pause briefly will open some menu whether it's the old right click menu/ radial menu/ mouse gesture menu, and allow a different action to be chosen. Now just left clicking will perform that action until you change it. for example activate a sickle and left click a tree would default to Harvesting. To change to Prune left click and hold briefly will open a menu, left clicking "Prune" will perform the Prune action and set Prune as primary action. Now just left clicking a tree will repeat the Pruning. I'd also like to say how much I hope that keybinding actions remains part of the interface that would be a big loss should it go.

A missing model won't prevent a mission from being completed. If a mission is active for a certain structure, it means the structure is still around. Remember, an epic structure requiring a ritual does not have to be ONLY a temple. I can be an obelisk or a foundation pillar for example. (Foundation pillars are built underground). Just keep looking - or ask in your freedom chat if anyone knows the location of the structures for the missions.

This can be used for sharing texture changes such as the wagon designs (which totally look like 80's van art!) and such. So show off your designs! If you have these textures available to the public feel free to include any and all info you want

Yes you want to use the local machine's IP address (aka behind the router). The internal vs external is really for machines that have multiple IP addresses assigned to them like many servers do. Otherwise you are just using the local internal address because your local computer has no knowledge of what your router's external public IP address is hence the crashing.

Well, looking back at my first days in Wurm, here is my story - funny and a wee bit embarrassing : It is the day of Tears in week 4 of the starfall of the Leaf in the year of 1017. Young Yaga, totally unexperienced and confused by this new world of Wurm, is trying to find his way from a strange place called Greendog through the dense forest to the northern shore of the freshly born and almost empty island of Deliverance. From time to time he passes one of the very few settlements and notices mysterious translucent shapes, looking like ghost warriors. "Spirit Templars" they are called - but what are they? Avatars of the godlike guardians of peace (aka "GMs" )? The ghosts of other players who have been killed? Being all alone in this country, he has nobody to tell him... And then, in the middle of a threatening forest, trying to avoid the many hostile and deadly creatures roaming the lands, he suddenly hears a voice saying: [10:30:49] <Spirit templar> I'll take care of Young black wolf! So, there seems to be someone out there trying to help a poor newbie, after all! What's the polite way to react? Here is what Yaga replies: [10:31:13] <Yaga> Thanks Needless to say, he never got an answer from that templar!

The third day in Wurm I was wondering how to make enough irons to buy a new pottery bowl from a merchant after losing mine because I ran right up to a troll because they had cool graphics...but that is another story. I found an iron vein and very excitedly told people in my local that I can now make my own iron coins!

My first week in Wurm, I went on a Grand Adventure up in a remote winding mountain road with twisty turns marked by stone demon statues. Then out of the blue, I got a text message in my Event window: A Young Fat Cliffchaser grazes. I turned around and ran without stopping until I got back to the bottom of that mountain. I had NO idea what a 'cliffchaser' was, and I really did not care to learn. I was pretty sure it sounded like something that would eat me. It took me several weeks before I realized it was ... a baby horse. Another time, I was pushing my way through an Olive grove, when my mouse highlighted an object somewhere in front of me but behind the trees: "Jackal." I thought for sure there was a jackal just ahead of me, and again turned and ran. I ran a LOT, those first days.

I usually agree with pretty much everything you guys talk about. But on the topic of UI, this time I'm gonna have to disagree, as UI is something I'm very passionate about. Part of my job is doing UI for games, so I'm pretty fussy when it comes to UI. It can literally make or break my game experience. And I ain't even talking about usability and UX, but even the visual look alone can distract me to the point of not being able to play. A good example is LOTRO: I would love to play it, but I cannot stand the UI, just can't bear it. Then again I love the UI of SWTOR and Albion Online, and their UIs are so nice that they seem to almost compensate for some of the down sides of those games. For some reason though, I've never minded Wurm's UI too much. Sure, it could do with some sweet and tender lovin' in how it's skinned, but I really really REALLY enjoy the size and functionality. To be honest, I'm really nervous if they're going to overhaul the UI, because I'd be devastated if it would then lessen the charm of the game for me. On the points you guys raised: Improving - I would not want improving to be restricted to crafting stations. In the real world, people can improve and polish items in various places and wherever they wish to do so, and so it should be in Wurm as well. It's one of the nice things you can do to bide the time when waiting for something at another location. That said, I have nothing against having crafting stations in addition to being able to improve like we do now. As a nice addition to the utilities. I do agree however with Adam that they should modify the crafting interface to support improving as well. Drag the tool in one slot, drag batch of items that are "in turn" to be improved with said tool in the other slot. Sometimes I've even tried to do so, forgetting that the window is for creation only. Displaying items in boxes/inventory etc - Due to the huge amounts of stuff that we handle in Wurm, I think the solution we have now: lists accompanied by teensy weensy indicator icons - is for sure the way to go. It simply could not work any other way. Second life is in the same predicament, and they also have lists and folders, however they don't have the benefit of the indicator icons. And speaking of those indicator icons, can I just say that I really appreciate the fact that they are tiny pixel icons? I hope they never change that. As soon as you bring antialiased indicator icons, we would lose a lot of usability and readability. That said, some of those icons need to be polished a bit to be clearer. The benefit of lists is also that it's the only way to keep from covering too much of that game area. Target window - this is actually very important to me and to anyone who is vulnerable to die out in the wild. You guys are such veterans and can kill anything, so you might not remember how important it is to have that window open and to be able to spot when a mob is aggroing you. As normally it's empty and when a mob aggros you it appears in the window. This is much needed when exploring through the wilderness! It also helps make sure that you have the right mob targeted in battle. Select Bar - This is one window I'm not a fan of. I never use it, as I prefer activating my tool, then right clicking something to see all my options. It feels so immersive this way. If actions were done through icons on the screen, it would be less immersive and lose charm. I also hate that there is no option to disable it by right clicking like there are other windows. Not more icons, less! Outline from hovering over items - You know, sometimes I turn this outline off when I want to make an especially pretty video (and for those that don't know, you can turn this off in the settings), but I soon find that when I get back to normal game play, I absolutely must have that outline. If you guys feel that you only need it for terraforming, I challenge you to do an entire video with it turned off. ;-) So yeah, I hope we never lose it. I do agree though, that it's not the prettiest implementation. My guess why we don't have purdy glows or highlights is possibly performance issues. What I do like about the outline though is that it is a godsend for trying to select something that is hidden, for instance by grass. It does a great job of very clearly showing what you're targeting. What I do agree with however, is that the style of the UI could be pimped up a bit, but I would not heavily change the structure, just take what we have and slightly polish so that it looks more friendly and approachable. I also agree that there are some panels that are not necessary.

Just watching the video. As far as the mouse look click on objects interaction you can add a wheel menu and then when you click on an object a menu opens and mouse look stops you then move the mouse to the option on the menu you want then let go of the mouse button and it closes the wheel menu and goes back into mouse look.

[11:19:33] The items silently disappear from the spirit cottage. You expect them to arrive in less than ten minutes. Thank you!

This could be improved with some rock shards

It would also be great to use as load/unload areas in harbours (not needing to allow load, pickup etc on whole deed). These tiles could have a special outline colour when hovered over by the mouse for easier management by deed owners/officials
