Currently, there are many benefits to living along water. You can park your boats at your deed, there are specific crops that can only be grown at water level (reed and rice), kelp can be harvested from the water, and quite a few animals spawn in or near the water (such as crabs, seals, tortoises, octopus, whales, dolphins, sharks, serpents, etc). You can fish as well, for food. So it's not very surprising that everyone wants to live on the coast. What I'm suggesting is to add some crops and animals that are specific to higher altitudes, such as mountain goats (ibexes) and coffee. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organisms_at_high_altitude Ibex [12:00:00] The ibex is a wild goat that lives in high altitudes and prefers mountainous terrain. Ibexes would only be able to spawn on rock or cliff tiles above a certain altitude, or slopes above a certain altitude that are greater than 50-60. They would not be bound to this area, so they could potentially migrate and roam around underneath mountains/hills. Ibexes would be not be aggressive, but they would require taming to lead (difficulty of deer). Butchered Produce: 12kg Goat Hide .9kg Lamb Meats (sounds weird, but "Mutton" applies to both sheep and goat. Maybe change Lamb to Mutton in-game) 2 Eyes 2 Horns (I believe both males and females bear horns) Hoof Bladder Gland Ibex -> Goat Milk Goat Milk -> Goat Cheese Goat Cheese -> ???? Recipes! Coffee Tree Coffee Sprouts -> Coffee Tree Coffee Tree -> Harvest Coffee Beans (in season) Coffee Beans -> Ground Coffee Beans Ground Coffee Beans + Boiling Water + etc -> Hot Coffee FYI, Coffee is usually harvested in winter. Drinking coffee would give a timed affinity, a small amount of stamina (such as alcohol does), and a small amount of sleep bonus that lowers your /fatigue (like Wisdom of Vynora). Drinking it COULD also not allow you to sleep in a bed for anywhere from 30m to an hour IRL after drinking it. And just to further brainstorm, perhaps an actual farmable crop could be introduced as well, but I can't really think of anything that would work. Maybe quinoa (http://www.fao.org/quinoa/en/)? Thoughts?

Transferring large amounts of dirt, bricks, etc. between BSBs and crates is about as annoying as a mosquito in the ear. A little part of me dies every time I have to drag/drop umpteen thousand times while holding shift + enter as I can't see any good reason for this mechanic, apart from the link to body strength. Suggestion: Have transfer of any amount greater than what fits in toon's inventory trigger a timer. Length of timer is calculated according to body strength (or available carrying capacity) and weight of transferred items. Allow any amount to be transferred up to capacity limit of either container involved in transfer; higher amount = longer timer. Allow multiple transfers to be queued just like any other action. Edit: This would also eliminate transfer actions failing and needing to be repeated when you enter an amount that exceeds your current inventory capacity.

There are a ton of upgrades to chat I'd love to see, but this is just a little baby step. Won't make a huge difference, but every new player that starts the game is usually confused by the chat channel naming. Would it be hard to rename the Freedom to whichever server we are actually on? If crossing servers, just create a chat entry, saying "welcome to "x" server!", so people can see what server the chat was coming from.

Actually the tower and path is on the west side of sneaky peaky, you can't see the deed, but to the south way below the building was a deed called Our Wall, we had punched a tunnel through the mountain that came out above that guard tower, the idea was to build a platform on the side and catapult the deed from above with trebuche's, unfortunately 2 days later the deed folded when Jukimo lead a raid (small MR scout party with catapults) up the back entrance to the place. When I figured the only spot a tower would work was way below the tunnel exit, I built that path, it is actually quite a bit longer than what you can see, it winds around the top of the mountain. I used about 3 crates of dirt at the start and surprisingly most of the path was made just by flattening the tiles above it. Paved it with marble and lined it with moss and those chain link fences when it was all done. Built the bed and breakfast building for the hell of it after as the view was very nice from up there to the south, north and west.

Are you able to confirm whether the noise comes from: hard drive power supply (don't touch!) fans (and which fans) GPU "Grinding" to me sounds like serious hard drive activity. 3.3% is very little memory. In fact that seems impossibly low. However java -should- be using the most of any running processes -- I would be more concerned if anything else was even close to as high. Normal usage might be anywhere from 700MB to 3GB per client depending on what graphical settings you use. The more memory you have total, the more it is likely to be using. If the hard drives are grinding this should not be related to memory usage unless it is needing to constantly swap data from active memory (RAM) to the hard drives. That seems unlikely if it is only 3.3% usage. Even then, an actual grinding noise might indicate an impending hard drive failure. Hopefully it is .. well, whrrring and not grinding. But even that is concerning. This may not be it, but I would certainly want to rule it out IMMEDIATELY as an issue. If it started recently and is getting more consistent with passing time, you may have very little time to save your hard drive data. Identifying and troubleshooting hard drive noise issues Is That Grinding Sound the Death of My Hard Drive? Hard drive grinding noise? Normal sounds include: Whining noise during drive spin-up. Regular clicking or tapping sounds during drive access. Hard clicks when the drive heads park during power saving modes like Standby or Hibernation. Abnormal noises include: High-pitched whining sound can be an indication of abnormal function. Noises can be caused by mounting issues. This is due to either a high frequency vibration in the mounting hardware, or a potential drive failure. Repeated, regular tapping, grinding or beeping. External (especially USB-only) drive clicking or beeping at time of connection, often accompanied by non-detection problems. Some failure mechanisms may make a regular repeating beep from the computer's internal speaker. This may or not be hard drive related. Two hard clicks at start up and then a boot error message or system shutdown is a symptom of a failed drive. ***This is likely not related to Wurm or to Java, though you might be getting it more often if Wurm is constantly trying to access a dying hard drive. Especially if you play Wurm a LOT (as all wurm players do). It would likely be occurring with any game that places semi serious demands on system resources. IF YOU RULE OUT An IMPENDING HARD DRIVE FAILURE, then I would next want to investigate whether background services are doing an unusual amount of accessing of the drive. As I mentioned, Windows Update, Antivirus file checking are the usual culprits, though its possible that file indexing might do it too. Another important thing to rule out is possible malware issues if someone is trying to access/control some functions of the computer. it's also possible to happen more often if you are sharing a network with other people in your house/dorm and all the computers are networked together. Can I also get the specs of your computer. it might be a different issue for a more lightweight computer, than for a heavy gaming system with beefy GPU/PSU/HDD. For instance, if you have a geforce GT 240 or 730 (quite acceptable but still pretty lightweight cards), I'd expect it to kick up into heavy usage with lots of fans even in an airconditioned room and low settings. Cards like that weren't intended for gaming even though they can function fine as budget gaming cards -- it just means they need to work harder, which could cause a feeling of "surging".

Have you ever wanted to freeze to death, or contract waterborne diseases? Now you can! Things that keep you warm: Summer, daytime, fires (fireplace/campfire/forge/etc.), being indoors, wearing warm clothing, eating hot food and drinking tea Things that make you cold: Winter, night, strong winds, rain, swimming, high altitudes and standing on snow tiles Drinking sea water or lake water may give you disease status. This can be avoided by boiling the water. Water from wells and fountains is safe and does not require boiling. Other safe options are wine, milk, fruit juices, etc. Each crop has a growing season. These seasons are longer closer to sea level, and if you have north/south mode enabled, then growing seasons are much longer in the south. There are several configurable options, including being able to enable/disable the temperature, drinking water & crop growth features independently. I need the Forums opinion on something!! Not sure if this would be a good idea, or not, but... How many of us would like to rather type the emote command then click through the windows to get the one we want. Rather then Right Click>Emotes>Choosing Nice,Neutral,Offensive>Then choosing the Emote you want. Much easier to just type /wave [playername] if you wave to someone or /wave if you want to wave to everyone in vicinity for example. Let me know what you think and maybe we can get the common emotes to be issued by commands. Thank you for your time. Amd Ciryatan

A number of WU servers let players drag up to 1,000 items between bulk containers and crates. Even more of them allow dragging 100 at a time as well as a max of 100 items from the ground into containers. The problem with WO is more that you are limited to drag only the weight that you can carry between containers. Not really sure why WU servers can drag many 100's of items between containers and WO has not figured this out without associated problems that WU servers avoid but it sure would be a lot more convenient to up the draggings to at least 100. A very tedious process as it is and a worthwhile suggestion here basically. =Ayes=

I have a suggestion that would allow us to have our cake and eat it too. Could the dev's not make an action-repeat timer, that would allow a person to transfer a max # of carry-able items, and then repeat until the # requested has been transferred or there are no more contents to transfer? If tied to a stamina limitation, i believe it would work nicely I would imagine. I think a similar mechanic is used like Leveling for digging would fit the bill nicely

As I discovered when I played on Wyvern, which was one of the oldest WU servers around and sported a fair population of people. Granted, after it disappeared for a few weeks, someone else picked the server up where it left off, calling it Wyvern Reborn. But WU is not the same as WO. It doesn't have the same community that I've come to love about WO. I remember the nail in the coffin on why I decided to leave Wyvern and WU altogether and return to WO was I recommended to the chat there about having an impalong like they have here on WO and they looked at me like I had two heads. The idea that any fool would give away free tool upgrades was an insane notion to them and they blew me off... so I gave up and returned to WO, and never doubted my decision. We have an amazing community here and I love you all. TL;DL, Wurm Online has a better and more friendly community than Wurm Unlimited (in my humble opinion)... and we aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Lagging the server with crops was done by dropping thousands and thousands into a BSB at once, and is why "you can only move 100 items at a time" exists. I know this because I used to terrorize Exodus for a few minutes every harvest day. You've never been able to move more than an inventory's worth of items out of a BSB at a time, partly because the act of just "moving" the items instantly generates them, puts them in your inventory, and drops them into the other BSB. Removing the limitation of "one inventory at a time" would generate and destroy up to thousands of items at once, seizing up the server like the old wemp bombs. A timer-based suggestion (like the one in this thread) where the items are transferred in batches throughout the course of the action would minimize the potential for abuse and save folks a lot of RSI.

This is something I actually do when generating server maps for WU, so it wouldn't be impossible to incorporate in Wurm, the terrain textures are already available, they're just not used. And yes, it does add atmosphere. Make it so.

Version 1.3 released. Let me know of issues. Added ring - unkown from the create menu (#give 297). Can set it up just like any other portal, but this is portable. It is the normal ring, can even be a crafted one, but a GM has to set the data. Be careful with this, if a player tries start teleporting too close to the destination, they will get stuck in a loop (this is usually just a few tiles, but since it is out of GM control it may be an issue). Good news on that, it won't hurt your server, and player just has to relog, but who likes errors? -at some point I will add a check for destination and calculate that it is more than 50 tiles to stop this from even being a possibility, but for now still an issue. --This item requested by Batta Added Rift Altar as a portal, named Rift Server Portal. Works just like the other server portals. --This item requested by ago. Added a little more grade school math to make the portals put the player in the center of the destination tile rather than the Northwest corner. This should solve problems with walls and fences being built on the border of the tile being teleported to.
