How about to make half-tile triangle foundation? So that people can add some more curves to their buildings? Also being able to place two such foundations in one tile for more room shapes and roof towers. Another option is to make one-way sloped roofs and a way to pick their direction. So you can make medival style buildings near the wall.

So... I am currently in the middle of pruning/sprout picking 1000 trees/bushes. I sometimes think it would be nice if long grind sprees like this gave some form of fun payback. So I propose the addition of "collectable" items to the game; in this specific example butterflies. When performing any forestry action there is a chance (1/1000) to give a random type of butterfly to the player's inventory. I'd say about 12 types of butterfly should be a nice number. Butterflies can be crafted into special decorations, for example butterfly in a jar (crafted using pottery (till we get glassblowing)), or added to a butterfly collection plaque (a piece of wall furnature (crafted using fine carpentry)). That's pretty much it, they are there to create some extra furnature and give players something they may want to trade with their neighbours who use different skills. The key idea here is to add an item that has no intrinsic silver value that, none-the-less, makes grindy gathering actions slightly more rewarding and exciting. Given that QL need not be a factor, it may also benefit new players without hitting the silver pool. For those with no interest in them; they represent something to sell to others for a bit of extra coin. Other potential collectables include : Semi precious gems (mining, prospecting), rare flowers (botanise), fossils (digging), coloured fireflies (spellcasting) etc

One point I haven't seen mentioned yet is the recent change to these early skills. For most of the game's life, new players have been able to get berries and herbs of decent quality even with minimal skill. Within the last few months, these skills changed so that all of the obtained items have single-digit quality for new players. Most of them are 1 ql (and damaged), and very few are greater than 5 ql. The breakfasts and casseroles cooked from these fill less than 1% food, and with the recent massive cooking timer nerf, each meal may take up to 5 minutes to cook even from hot ingredients. Those who are recalling their own new player experience have not had the misfortune of experiencing the recently changed conditions. Edit: Another point I had intended to include: Before the 1.3 cooking update, casseroles had quality up to 2x the HFC skill, and stews had up to 3x skill. This no longer applies, and food ql is now capped at 1x skill. This hurts new players much more than it does experienced ones.

Stop and wave to every new player you meet, because you don't know who may be lonely and dying for someone to talk to. Just over this past week I've befriended two players who confided that they had no one to talk to or keep them company in-game. They were surprised and overjoyed when I waved to them first and then even engaged with them. One is a disabled player, for example. On a server that's fairly populous. Not sure if every MMO out there has this problem. My gut says "no".

Crystal Bay Estates - Finndar Hi Everyone! Patch day has come and gone, and the java update issues have been addressed. We're aware of the horse and cart issues, as well as the water sources, and will be looking at that over the weekend. There's lots to share this week, so let's jump in! But first... Valrei overhaul So we mentioned we'll be sharing some more details about the valrei system and the planned overhauls some time ago, and now it's time to share! So let's jump into it. We have some planned changes for Valrei, the mission system, and Epic in general. These changes are well underway and due in the next few weeks to a month or so. To start off, with the larger number of player gods that have been added to the game over the past few years, it is necessary to look at how those gods impact the Valrei board. Coming with this set of changes will be player gods being removed from the Valrei board once they are changed from demigods into full gods. When a player uses a Key to the Heavens, they will still be added to the Valrei board as a static entity paired to their god, but once their god wins a scenario may become a full god and removed from the board. When this happens the player god will still generate missions for players to complete, but these missions will not directly affect the Valrei board in any way or give scenario points. Scenario rewards are also being changed slightly. Coming with this update will be a requirement for players to be premium in order to be rewarded scenario points as well as karma upon completing a mission. If the player that participated in the mission is non premium, they will only be rewarded karma and sleep bonus, but not scenario points. At the end of a scenario, there will be 3 tiers of rewards The top tier will be available to those with the top 20% of scenario contributors, and contain the highest rewards of a single use tome, or a small chance of a Key to the Heavens or dragon egg for those in the top 5%. After this tier will be a second set of winners for the top 50% of contributors where there will be 3 prizes of a yet to be announced item. The final tier for the full 100% of contributors will have 5 chances for either the above unannounced item, or a moon metal lump. This will only impact the Epic servers, as Freedom does not receive scenario rewards. In addition to the above is a full rework of all mission types, difficulty and rewards. Some existing missions will be removed, some new mission types will be added, and we’ll be going over all mission types to make sure that their difficulty to complete, and reward amounts (of karma, sleep bonus and scenario points) scale properly to the difficulty of the mission. As a larger overall change to this system, the difficulty tiers will be changing from a system of 1-4 to a system of 1-7, where the difficulty of the mission is determined by the number of successful missions in a row for that god as opposed to the number of source items that god is currently holding on Valrei. This means as more missions for a given god are completed, the difficulty and rewards of the mission will increase. This applies both to Epic and Freedom, where an additional bonus on Epic will be increased help for the given god, reducing their move timer more depending on the mission difficulty. Similar to now, some missions will be available in friendly territory, and some will be available in enemy territory only according to the difficulty. As mentioned above, the sleep bonus and karma rewards for participating in a mission will be changing from a flat 1000 karma and 30min sleep bonus per mission, instead scaling with the difficulty of the mission with the very low difficulties giving less than the current defaults, and the higher difficulties giving more than the current defaults. There are also more changes planned for Valrei and Epic in general, but we’re not quite ready to release details of these changes yet. More info about these will come in the near future. All caged up A long requested addition is the ability for creatures to be loaded into vehicles, and I have a very special surprise this week, without further ado... That's right, in a coming up date creatures will be able to be loaded into cages, and onto vehicles! Different creatures will take different volumes, and they will need to be led prior to being loaded (meaning no ships full of spiders!) Upon crossing servers they retain all info about traits. Parentage and cared for status will return upon returning to the original server. Highway testing push we're gearing up our public testing of the new highway system in anticipation of releasing it with the next big update! We'll be looking at how best to organise public testing, but the best thing you can do is jump on the test server and play around with paving the catseyes and building highways! The ongoing discussion thread with the technical gory details can be found here: Wonders of Celebration Iberis (known ingame as Hexd and Mizova) is at it again! This time she's taking her sightseeing tour to Celebration and is looking for your input on what's great to see across the server. If you have a suggestion, or know a landmark she might want to check out, let her know! Community content This weeks community content is a video by qwizat, with a tour of his twin deeds eden and dune. His village is open to all new players, so if you're looking for somewhere to start your journey, contact him! There's a lot coming in the next few updates, and we haven't even begun to tease you all about the new skill coming to Wurm, what is it? You'll just have to wait and see Until then though, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.

+1 In addition, this could have server-specific varieties that can be traded about. Different names, same art. I.e. Deliverance Bluewing Butterfly vs the Xanadu Azure Butterfly, both use the same blue butterfly art. Then you could have a "<Server Name Here> Butterfly Collection"

This will be really good for hunts, it sucks going to other servers and not finding horses anywhere... yet in xanadu you just need to go to the water and see more horses than any other sea creatures.

Sadly, with PvP all but dying out, the huge institutes of recruiting kingdoms are leaving. I was lucky to be part of the PMK Empire of Mol Rehan. During my time there, from start to finish, we recruited, trained, socialised with, and met over 500 unique people from both PvP and PvE backgrounds. If the game has any chance of survival, these really need to be made a priority.

As most of u know i have been a very active player for years on the epic cluster like many others here. I still login now and then to see how its going on over there coz i cannot see the player numbers on the forums anymore. Its shocking how low the population is nowadays, its horribly low and there is no sign of it getting better it seems. Is there any plans in the works? Or is it just gonna bleed out? It really saddens me to see that the cluster i have been on for years is like completely empty. Anyone has ideas? Thoughts? Discussions?

If you are looking for a challenging and friendly environment, why don't you check out Hellebroek? Hellebroek is located on Exodus at N22 near the coastline (Avonlea Bay/Golden Woods) and accessible over water or land. We are members of the Alliance of Whitebroek, which also contains Whiterun (capital). The settlement has access to a wide arrange of raw resources as well as on deed as in the direct surroundings. That means less than 3 minutes traveling to extract them. A lot of Hellebroek still requires building, this is the perfect spot for aspirant masons and carpenters. Our agricultural sector offers many opportunities for breeders and farmers while our industry can equip and set up everyone as required. Interested or wanting more information? Contact Chlodovech.

Currently we cannot build flowerbeds on structure tile borders. I suggest to allow it to be built where fences are allowed in buildings. It would allow nice terraces like when built between the marble planters on the below image.

I'm having trouble getting my second monitor to work with Wurm properly. It seems when I try to play Wurm on the second monitor, I get extremely hyper-sensitive mouse freelook, meaning I can't turn without my player spinning 6 times in one small fragment of a mouse drag. My primary display is 4k, and the second is 1080p. The 4k is running on Display Port, and the 1080p is running on HDMI. I have a 1080GTX. Also, Aly is having troubles as well. Her primary monitor is 1080p (HDMI), with a second monitor at 1080p (HDMI) as well. When she tries to plug in a third (HDTV) running at 1080p (DVI from PC to HDMI converter), she gets the same issue that I have above on it, with freelook hyper-sensitive. She has a 1080GTX as well. We've tried all sorts of things, including smaller game resolutions, windowed, windowed fullscreen, fullscreen, etc etc, and we haven't come up with a fix yet. I also tried setting my sensitivity to .5, but that doesn't seem to work. When I try to look around, I can only make about a 15 degree turn before it just stops working. I'm assuming a part of the problem lies with the resolution differences, but I'm thinking the difference in port types may be a problem too. Anyway, a little help, please? Thanks! (There are some old threads on the subject, but they don't have fixes either):

Hey All, I was at the 7/21/17 rift on Cele the other day, and logged out with my horse hitched to my tent. I could have sword the tent was locked, but I guess I was wrong, because when I signed in this morning, the tent was gone (thanks for leaving my horse though). I know unlocked tents are 'fair game' on freedom pve (I thought I recalled locking it, but I was wrong). However, as a fairly long time player, I thought that the wurm community was more or less above just taking someone else's stuff when it's really obvious that the stuff is not abandoned (i.e at a rift event right after a rift ended). Anyhow, if the person who took it would kindly consider returning it to me in game, she would be most pleased. I know a few other players who also had their tents taken at the rift. I imagine they'd feel pleased if theirs were returned too. Blue Jenn Kellon Military Tent - 17.xx ql - 4.xx dmg Thank you!

Before tents were added, I use to suggest having cloth-frame walls - which could be erected, collapsed, or packed - for user customizable tents. Basically semi-portable, temp housing. Granted the current tents are more containers than shelters.

It's a screen shot thread. I don't play WO any more. So why would I do suggestions. If they like what I and others do on WU then they might add them for you. Like the wagon people asked for it for years only after I did one in max did we shortly see wagons. Then there was my walls textures in max then soon after we got some new stucco walls and some new wall types. Then there was the asking for years for crates for animals fo shipping but only shortly after I threw a video on these forums with a quick snap of a animal crate did you see it coming. Don't knock us WU players we have been helping send ideas to CC and have got some wheels turning.
  32. 1 point
Personally animal shipping merely opens up new markets for existing animal breeders. Though I'm more for it due to it opening up speedy travel and a more nomadic lifestyle... now if we just had bedrolls and maybe larger tents.

Usually when this happens right after a JAVA update, it is because you have a laptop with switchable graphics and your graphics control panel is set to look for JAVA in it's "old" location, and not under the new path for the latest java version. That means you usually need to go to Nvidia or Catalyst Control Panel and tell it to look for javaws.exe but using the new java version path which is probably something similar to this: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_141\bin\javaws.exe (the old location likely was set to version "131 not 141") I am not too familiar with windows 10 and not sure whether it has a slightly different default file location. If you get REALLY stuck, ask us for more help. Under your graphics Control panel > 3D Settings > Global, there is often also a way to tell it to ALWAYS use your gaming graphics card and never use the power saving integrated, though that will burn through battery much faster. If you need more help, explain how much of that you followed ok and how much step-by-step walkthrough you still need. the more specific you are, the easier we can help. It sounds like you had it set up correctly before but the update in the java version messed up the path so now it cannot find where javaws.exe is (which previously triggered it to use the gaming card, but now has it revert to generic intel drivers) That's good news because it probably means you have done this at least once before, but long ago, and just need a reminder how to do it again. it's also possible if you have a Wurm shortcut on desktop, there might be a rightclick mousemenu option to "open with NVidia graphics" or some wording to that effect. it sometimes varies but may look like this: If you still get the message <Pixel format not accelerated> you may need to go to your laptop maker, or to one of the links below, for proper drivers: ATI/RADEON: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download NVIDIA/GeForce: https://www.geforce.com/drivers DO NOT go to Windows Update and try to update your driver there, or let Windows auto update your drivers for you, as usually Microsoft will overwrite your special graphics driver with a microsoft generic version that ignores OpenGL features and only focuses on DirectX. If you already did that, you may need to go back to ATI or NVidia and reinistal drivers or look for a way to rollback your drivers. I am assuming this is a laptop with "switchable graphics" , which is sometimes a little trickier than desktops, but let us know if you need some extra help.

I doubt this will affect breeders heavily.... horses arent a huge cash crop in wurm, and if anything itll encourage those breeders to advertise more. If i go to exodus and my horse dies, now i can buy a fresh one and still take it home with me
  38. 1 point
didn't they mention you must be able to lead the animal to load it into a cage, hence no boat loads of spiders I have yet to see someone dominate a unique since I started, so I don't think that will be a problem.

This is something I actually do when generating server maps for WU, so it wouldn't be impossible to incorporate in Wurm, the terrain textures are already available, they're just not used. And yes, it does add atmosphere. Make it so.

Sharing some ideas from my server Foreverlands with WO and CC we need more decorations and color. To many rooms with multi story and mass cities not enough decorations and color to make rooms stand out. I'm working on a bunch right now maybe be live in few weeks on my server.

well there are a few great big steps here that sound awesome and deserve praise. Dev's hard at work again truly being barn burners of late. crating of animals super cool and desired by many...almost as exciting as the ability to plot course server hop. Secondly nice to see a first go at trying to tackle valrei game board, all the deities, and making more reasonable/fair the award system when doing missions..it was utterly random and bizarre at times before with people getting award doing very little in the mission or being in diff kingdom etc. Kudos for beginning to tackle that and iron it out some more.

When I started this game I was a HotS newb in Chaos awaiting death by more experienced players. Instead of building a deed or a house the first thing I built was a rower cause I wanted to go sailing. I finished my rower only to realize it was built in the Shroud Lake, not the bay that leads to the ocean. Wynd who started a few months before me came around and I thought, "great, I'm about to die and have my rower stolen or destroyed." Instead he grabbed a ship transporter and brought my boat to the water then told me, "Go for a sail, when you're done if you need a spot to stay at, come live with me." I got out into the water and was immediately chased by like 12 Drake Spirits. I managed to escape, but was immediately headed to his village to live. Nice strangers make this game what it is and prevent newbs from leaving. I realize this isn't entirely on topic. But figured I'd add it in. We all need to be nice to newbs(and everyone else for that matter) so we can grow the Wurm population.

Its not always the new players who are benefited from stopping to talk to them. I met Ayuna here in the forums when she was looking for a village upon her return to Wurm. I invited her over, gave her tools, weapons, armor and a place to live. I spent maybe two days outfitting her. I was repaid in a lot of adventure and fun. She took me on silly, but super fun expeditions, searches for lost stuff and just general "lets do stuff together!". She uplifted my spirit and gave me new things to do in the game. Sometimes helping someone can lead to a lasting friendship and change your perspective of the game.
