I was hoping to let this run to the end. Auction is over due to a buyout offer that we simply couldn't turn down. Possibly only one of as many as you could count on one hand have been gained in past years.. The Chaos Troll King, slain by The Crusaders on the Day of Wurm, Year 1067. Butchered by the Wizard Chief Xsamuraizx the Maginificent Holiness. [12:54:54] This looks like the collar bone from some animal. These are said to provide luck. This is a fantastic example of the item, with fascinating design details and perfect ideas for functionality. Start Bid: 350E/3.5g Reserve: Hidden 25E/25s Bid Increments 1 Hour Sniper Protection. Private offers accepted, bids will be posted here with the buyer remaining anonymous.

Today marks a sad day in the history of Wurm. One of the oldest standing deeds on Serenity has fallen. The Department of New Player Assistance has always existed in some form since Epic opened, always dedicated to helping people out. Oftentimes people have said the only reason they stuck around past the first few hours was the help, advice and assistance we gave them. Sadly, a small group of people decided they wanted the 2 silver coins in the token, and easy loot and easy kills with no opposition whatsoever. In doing this, they've now destroyed years of work. To those who did this, I honestly hope you're proud of yourselves. To those who've been a part of the village over the years, I offer my thanks to you, for helping to shape DNPA over the years. Your work and company is very much appreciated! Jul 12, 2017 2:31:23 PM upkeep disbanded The Department Of New Player Assistance

I've had occasion to be helped by Shrimpiie in his capacity as GM. I appreciated it at the time, and I still do. I think it should be emphasized, especially to anyone new to Wurm or thinking of joining, that the GM in question is not being reprimanded for his actions as GM. Reading Enki's description of events, Shrimpiie did not in any way abuse or misuse his position as GM. No player was negatively affected by his being a GM. This is not at all a case of a GM acting poorly as GM. Such has been seen in quite a few games, nightmare scenario all players dread... not the case here. Player acted as a player using a player account. Said account is also volunteered as a GM. This brings the added scrutiny of a staff doing their best to keep everything above board. As Captain of the ship, Enki had to cut loose a man who fell overboard for the sake of the ship. In this case, the man fell overboard not due to a failure in his position on the crew, but as a consequence of a personal decision unrelated to his duties. I believe, if anything, my message to any new players or potential players would be to look at this as evidence of the abundance of caution and value this staff places on any whiff of impropriety. I hope Shrimpiie gets the chance to enjoy the game without the extra responsibilities he volunteered for. While I would normally rip a prawn's spine right out, skewer them, and toss them on a glowing hot grill, I think I'll let this shrimp go right about his business. Now who's up for crabs?

Internal Shakeup Today I had to remove one of our Game Masters for violating our internal code of conduct concerning actions they had taken in the past. I had only recently been made aware of the action committed, and while the action itself was outside of the game and ultimately resulted in nothing as far as I know, the fact that it happened was not something I could support one of our team members doing. I have long held internal guidelines of conduct to which I hold our team members to a higher standard than I do our players. The action that took place I would not have even concerned myself with if it had been a player that committed it. It is public knowledge what happened now, so I can say that the action that was committed was that one of our members who was a brand new Game Master at that time in 2015 was given access to a third party kingdom forum by one of their disgruntled members. Their regular member forums were accessed by him. He did not hack, he did not break any rules, he simply did something that had the potential to gain an advantage over an adversarial party in game. As I said, had this just been normal people I would not have cared one bit. His work with us has been solid in his Game Master responsibilities and I have nothing but good admiration for the energy and effort he has provided us. For now though, he understands his mistake and accepts the consequences. To stop the rumors... NO, he is not banned from Wurm Online. NO, he has not been "fired" He violated no rules, he only committed an out of game act that I could not support and as a consequence I have removed him from his responsibilities. Perhaps down the road he might be willing to return with a better understanding of what I expect of our team members. For the time being other team members are stepping up to help cover all the internal management and duties that he performed for us. Thank You, Wurm Online Team

Honestly before taking on a new big 'End Game' type project ( rifts or whatever ) I'd like to see old issues fixed completed and looked at. PvP - Way to many issues that folks are talking about, not to mention Epic cluster. Balance of priest and meditation ( also being currently looked at ) UI ( in the works now ) Retention of just fresh new players, how to introduce them to the game and keep them playing After the current and old projects are completed, then would be a good time to say 'Ok, now what?' Somethings i'd personally like to see, new champion animal types, crabs, turtles, heck even sheep lol. New mini uniques like a Crap Boss, Wolf, Dog ( please no tomes or dragon blood type crap off these ) New uses for the tree types or even bushes. New Animal traits that give benifits and the bad traits make more sense ( unhealthy gives less meat or hide or whatever on butchering ) But in my opinion, End Game to me means, I log on, go raid for 5 hours, then log off for the rest of the week. for me If i wanted to go do that i'd log onto warcraft ( or any other handful of games ) Wurm is about hard work, creating something from nothing, taking days, weeks, months, years to complete, then standing back and going 'Dam I did that.' not standing around 40 other folks waiting for some boss to spawn.

The most surprising part of this story is that an undefended deed sat on a PvP-enabled server for long. Epic really needs some help.

As Zenity mentioned, Joanavon was the founder of the iteration that we've just lost. Following him was Tacitus, then Covenant. Apart from those, the most notable names that I remember from my time there were Mirax, Viti and Lyhrinae. They'd always jump at the opportunity to help someone out. I can honestly say that some of the best people I've ever met in this game have resided at DNPA.
  19. 2 points
I was part of that deed during my very short try of epic. Great people, and sad to see it fall.
  20. 2 points
Sorry for the loss as well. I've prolly made a few jokes (good ones and bad ones alike) about the DNPA when I was still Eobersig at Orchard Bay, but overall the DNPA was a good place and keeping it going so long is an achievement of it's own. Well done to you and Covenant and Joanavon (spelling?), the initial founder if I remember right?

aka no answer xD. Could read that from the pms, that it was the 3 of them, rings made in secret or what was shrimpiie told. Too lazy to look it up... meh. Kuuddos for Enki doing the right thing, don´t know how good shrimpiie was as a GM, but as a player on chaos he was toxic, he and necro where the 2 enemy players who were the ones no one liked and everyone disliked. Most other JK/TC i really have no bad feelings for. But meh, who cares anymore. Good news is im getting close to 50 AH.

DeedPlanner 2.8.7 released! Changes: Added wooden portcullis Ground renderer optimizations (ground rendering is roughly twice as fast now) Fixed 2d renderer frustum culling (4 to 10 times faster 2d rendering in most situations) Fixed 2d renderer bounds (no more black space or unaccessible tiles on the right map edge depending on aspect ratio) I still see lots of room for optimizations (which I found necessary after seeing how badly DeedPlanner performs on really large plans), but 2d performance should be good enough already to make editing the large plans comfortable even on very low-end machines or making it possible to run program alongside, not instead of one Wurm window. Wooden portcullis got added to bring the program compatible with exporter again, exporter update will follow soon.

That all being said, if you would like me to look at customizing the mod for you to make bury have a configurable parameter so you can modify global bury bounties up or down your choice based on a multiplier, I could possibly do that for you in the next week or so, if Walker isn't around.

I'll add this to Budda's work in progress for creature movement. Only he can figure out what he's doing and where and why. Since the last patch I've been running in circles too

Note to GMs -- Our attempt to create gold pavement by using "Change terrain" to change the ground to gold mine doors resulted in about 1 in 10 of the tiles becoming black holes that caused players to fall to their deaths. Not the result we were looking for, lol. Ironically, not a bad metaphor, either.

Probably should throw another shrimp on the barbie if you catch my drift.

Actively promoting and aiding in metagaming activity should never be allowed as part of Wurm, let alone a GM and the lead forum moderator. People such as himself should have better morals. This was a well justified response by Enki, but i think it should be left at that.

I'll just climb up there and solo it, it's fine.

It did have active players, or at least one, and it's alwyas had around 2 silver, to prevent large losses if drained, 300 silver would not have prevented it falling, the upkeep was topped up to keep it over the 30 days regularly. The problem, and it's a problem for almost every Epic deed, is the low population, especially when raiders deliberately -pick times when population is at it's lowest. I accept that it's demise was inevitable, because no matter how high you build the walls, how strong the token walls and gates are, without players every deed will fall, perhaps we should put them all out of their misery?
  38. 1 point
whats equally sad is that just empties out epic even more, it really is a dying cluster esp when only one active kingdom (which even half the remaining active BL group fled to) for the tomes but dont care about the game as a whole jsut being greedy :/
  39. 1 point
While it's certainly sad that we had such little numbers to be able to defend, what I'm still trying to wrap my head around is what the group stood to gain from doing this? It had already been looted to hell and back, all valuables on deed and on active villagers had already been taken. It's not a case of attempting to gain land like on Elevation or Chaos. There was literally just under 2 silver in the token. Was it really worth the time and effort to get that? Was it really worth detracting from the already dwindling numbers as villagers cease to log in because they can no longer provide any sort of match, or defense, against the attacking party?

setting aside the whole "sandbox = no end game," 90+ skills and godly gear isnt really end game imo. End game is finding a shelter and living near every resource needed to grind skills. After finding a clay pit, getting a 2x3 house with forges, fencing animals in and etc, all you do is sit around your deed to grind it and then go out to hunt over.. and over.. and over again (unless you go have fun and do some other things to mess around, but this is just skill related). I don't think the issue is people reaching 90+ because odds are they are either just gonna mess around or go towards 100, just like people at 20 either messing around or heading to 90. Setting aside the whole skill thing, Any additional goals in wurm should be somewhat minecraft/landmark related. Instead of just getting stuff to satisfy yourself, it would be nice to make areas to game, but wurm doesnt usually promote that. I made a suggestion to make chess piece statues just to make a really cool chess stadium (wasnt gonna deed it, just like 70ql walls and occasional repairs) and most i got was a meme saying "lol wot" and a "why not?". I was gonna make another suggestion but then wondered if it was even worth posting seeing that people just want to make life easier, not add anything fun. The suggestion was to change yellow potions to be specific groups of potions. Furniture potion would turn you into furniture and animal potions will turn you into an animal, if theres anything else im missing it will turn you into that other group. Then adding both potions for like 5c on traders so they can be bought at anytime. Lastly, make it so when a player mouses over the piece of furniture or animal they see it as a furniture or animal, including the menu. So a person disguised as a chair could be sat on, a person who is a chest can be opened (but empty). Why did i want this?? Prop hunt.... I wanted to make a huge mansion filled with furniture and then hold events (that nobody will probably come to) and play prop hunt. Would this count as a new model/assest?

I somehow made the wrong kind of T-arch yesterday and wound up with Trim. Ran to the forge and made a pair of pliers... voila. Plain stone as I originally wanted without destroying it and starting over. Wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it was nice that I could do it. I think the same is possible with those fancy looking window things right? +1 for the suggestion. I'd say maybe a heavy/large maul to bust a hole through stone, pottery, etc. Maybe a saw or hatchet for wood/timber walls? (or new item, wood chisel? I digress...) I'd also suggest making it go both ways. 5 bricks + 5 mortar to fill in a window, activate trowel. 5 planks + 1 small nails to cover up window, activate mallet. 5 clay + 5 grass to cover up window, activate mallet.

Probably not the right place for this, but wanted to say something. Amazing work to those who contribute these community-benefiting projects to Release. Haven't used the NE bridge yet personally, but the Mercury Lake > West Coast canal is perfectly done and a huge time saver. Great work folks! Am constantly reminded that I was lucky to pick Release years ago
