Settling the Dust of 2016 Greetings and Happy Festivations! This last year has been a long and dusty road, but we have made it through and are preparing to tackle a new one. At this time we start beating out all that dust we have picked up on the trail over the last year and need to close out some of the rockier parts of the old year. I refer directly to the Niru incident. Officially, we are done with this individual and all of the accounts and items that were associated with the individual are and always have been the property of Code Club AB and may be used, dispensed, or removed at Code Club AB's discretion as defined in the EULA that everyone agrees to upon playing Wurm Online. After a long period of open claims being taken in by forum thread and forum pm has finally passed I have decided to finally begin closing this chapter. First, a handful of claimants who lost items and properly noted their losses to us when asked will receive items that we were able to seize in Niru's possession. You will not receive all of your item losses, only those we were able to successfully show were yours. Second, we will be conducting an auction on all of the items that were seized with no proper claim received for. This will start with a listing of items for overview, and then after a week, an auction/s will commence. Third, all of those who lost silvers in transaction with Niru and properly posted a claim in the forum thread or forum pm will receive a percentage of their losses back. The proceeds from the auction will be returned in percentage to those with silver related losses. I cannot stress enough not to get hopeful and expect a full recompense. This is not a reimbursement and I am not setting any new precedent as this is normal procedure for us to attempt to return losses seized in regards to scams. I will not entertain any attempts to apply this situation to other cases in an attempt to retrieve long lost items or accounts. This was a special case of scamming and is in no way similar to other cases such as bans due to rule violations. Thank You, Wurm Online Team

As many know I held a secret Santa this year which by the way was amazing. However, about a week ago I adopted a nublet, he had lost his old account info, was on a new char. I offered him a home at my place with whatever help he needed in good faith. I had a sword that had been donated by Reegsman, 81ql and my bf and myself enchanted this and a few others. This particular sword came out with a good ms, nim and a 100 coc on it. I put it in my 'SS' chest hoping to find the right person who needed just such a weapon, sadly I didn't. I noticed yesterday it was gone and being the derp I sometimes am I wondered if it had been mailed by accident, in which crap happens and I'm ok with it. But I also had this noob tell me he adored fighting, just so happened to get his fighting account back and quit my deed and the sword is gone... I have confirmation by a GM I did NOT mail it out by accident and that this noob has it in his procession. He was given a chance to come clean, he outright lied. While yes he did have access to the chest and that was my fault, I don't pretend otherwise, he knew very well those items weren't to be touched and had been given a weapon that I could enchant in the near future for him. [18:02:11] <Pagani> Is there any chance you borrowed a 2 handed sword from my house? [18:02:12] <Demontamer> shoot [18:02:26] <Demontamer> no u gave me a 2 handed sword [18:02:35] <Pagani> can you examine it? [18:02:44] <Demontamer> let me see if i can get on it [18:03:56] <Demontamer> what am i looking for [18:04:04] <Pagani> examine it [18:04:09] <Pagani> is it enchanted? [18:04:25] <Demontamer> no not that i could see [18:04:27] <Pagani> k [18:04:47] <Pagani> Also 2. Are you coming back to this village? [18:04:56] <Demontamer> prob not I'm not looking for sympathy or a replacement. I want the community to know he took it and he knew he had no right, access or not and LIED to cover it up. Main char: Demontamer Alt: Dragonsummoner Last Known Location: Xanadu, new springs.

Update After recovery, we had a long talk...the sword and myself not the thief. We spent the day (cause swords are quite resilient people thankfully) working out some issues from the above mentioned swordnapping. By the next day and a good rest in a comfy coffin he felt a lot better. Yes he identifies as a male, don't judge. Anyways, I had a forum pm from a good trusty name that gave me some information. The sword and I discussed it, we felt it was a good choice. The receiver is apparently good natured and loving. The sword offered to stay but after being cruelly taken from his warm chest and taken to bacon knows where and touched by icky thieving hands, I felt it best he get a start on a new wonderful life of troll ass kicking...or maybe some lions to start.... With a grateful gleam on his blade, he agreed. We parted on the best of terms, he even forgave the thief (I'm kinda good with therapy tactics) however I can't say the same. The sword would like you to know he appreciated your interest and concern in his pain and story but wants you to know he is happy to go on with his new life. Happy hunting Sword, we will miss you.

Please can we change the programming so that animals can cross server borders? I'm sure it's been said before, but I'm mentioning it again because it's quite a big thing and would be particularly helpful to breeders such as myself not having to start again on every new server we go to. I understand the programming part is easier said than done, and obviously this isn't going to happen overnight, but I'm hoping this issue could be given a higher priority in future. I suppose it would make sense for creatures that can't swim not to be able to cross, but we should at least be able to lead creatures over on a boat like we can do to different parts of our own servers.

Being a new player myself (Arakiel insists I am new even after a month) I find this ridiculous. I have received incredible help and an amazing reception by the people of Wurm. Seeing stories like these kinda make me wonder why. There is nothing quite like getting your ass handed to you by a wolf and having to run crying like a p...y to the nearest guard tower, then licking the red off your healthbar for the next few hours. Day before yesterday I saw my first shark. Wondering if I could take it out, I sailed towards it and whacked it over the head. Being the newbie I am, I did not notice I was at the border of the map, and either that shark or the game mechanics kicked me off the boat. The shark beat me around like a redheaded stepchild as I tried to board my ship to sail away but kept getting knocked off. I managed to board the ship and set course to some random island and immediately zoned, ending up with 3% health. Thankfully Vernex was nearby. Within a minute I was back on the Celebration server and sailing back. He intercepted me and used cotton to bind my wounds. Why do I tell this story, you ask? Because if I had been a thief, a brute, or a Shitler I would had died cold and alone from bleeding wounds. No free 100ql enchanted sword is worth loosing that. Experiences are the reason we play the game. Never sacrifice community for a few silver. Unlike silver, you can't get community back.

Over the past year I've seen a few good PvP servers pop up and last for 4-5 months and crash out or become stale due to poor admin choices or poor player management skills when it came to exploits and toxic players ruining a server. The ideal server to me would be something similar to what Desolation 3 had, faster skill gain up to a certain point, body stats slow down at a certain point etc. A decent 2048x2048 map with cool choke points surrounding a HOTA area. Making drake/scale available to nearly everyone, keeping it simple with only 2 kingdoms with the option of one PMK. removing or limiting the options for champion players (maybe do something like when you go try for prince/emperor, Mag/Vyn/Fo have certain criteria you need to meet besides 50 faith and the required SD/SS/channeling) Just some ideas I've been kicking around.. I have a small group of people who would actually be interested in starting up a PvP server and actually take the time to properly test among the PvP community and hear feedback and apply it to the server. I would like to hear some of the ideas other people have! If you're interested in joining me and a few others, or would just like to talk about potential WU pvp servers just drop me a pm.. Post it up!! *note: I'm not directing my first line at any particular person, its just my observation/personal opinion*

Have you ever wanted to freeze to death, or contract waterborne diseases? Now you can! Things that keep you warm: Summer, daytime, fires (fireplace/campfire/forge/etc.), being indoors, wearing warm clothing, eating hot food and drinking tea Things that make you cold: Winter, night, strong winds, rain, swimming, high altitudes and standing on snow tiles Drinking sea water or lake water may give you disease status. This can be avoided by boiling the water. Water from wells and fountains is safe and does not require boiling. Other safe options are wine, milk, fruit juices, etc. Each crop has a growing season. These seasons are longer closer to sea level, and if you have north/south mode enabled, then growing seasons are much longer in the south. There are several configurable options, including being able to enable/disable the temperature, drinking water & crop growth features independently. Every time winter comes around in game I find myself playing far less due to eye strain and its really starting to get annoying how ignored this issue has become. I would settle for an optional setting that just cut back to the amount of snow to something like this:

Many moons ago I started work on a boat cave on my Xanadu deed and main home. You see I have the odd crazy idea in Wurm and after building one in Fippy's Harbour on Deliverance I had always wanted to build an improved version when I found the right spot. My Xanadu deed is basically a bit of land at the bottom of a cliff and a hill with an Obelisk on it. So my mine is the main work area for my characters, always expanding... until now that is. No more tunneling for a while after this. I had a small workroom that was great for a while, with a grand plan for a fancy cave that i could move my workshop to. I don't get a lot of time these days (2 kids) so it was always a big task for me and originally the plan had a canal off the first cave with a 2nd cavern. I decided that i'd be better having the one cave and expanded the one i'd already mined out, to include workshop and storage sections. Anyway, enough rambling. I'll post some pics and then a link to the full Gallery at the bottom, in case anyone is interested in seeing more. I will add that the door is open for anyone wanting to go in and have a look around. Full Gallery - Bradda Cove - Boat Cave A lot of pics, so sorry if too much, but had to put a range in.

Great mod. Here are some tests I did on a test server. I was standing a long time warming up to Very Warm, then went outside with no heat source: Autumn (23.00 night) - from Very warm to taking damage - 5 min Autumn (09.00 sunny day) - from Very warm to taking damage - Infinite (You are very warm, and this is unlikely to change.) Winter (23.00 night) - from Very warm to taking damage - 3 min. Winter (09.00 sunny day) - from Very warm to taking damage - 16 min. Spring (23.00 night) - from Very warm to taking damage - 5 min Spring (09.00 sunny day) - from Very warm to taking damage - Infinite (You are very warm, and this is unlikely to change.) Summer (23.00 night) - from Very warm to taking damage - Infintite (You are very warm, and you are getting warmer.) Summer (09.00 sunny day) - from Very warm to taking damage - Infinite (You are very warm, and you are rapidly getting warmer.) Autumn and spring nights seems abit too harsh, but the rest seem fine. The heat source seems problematic. I was using a QL 50 oven. Putting a full log in there gets you to warm up, but after a short while, it no longer warms you up - even though it says there is plenty fuel left and it will burn for a long time. I'm guessing the oven was doing the same as a QL 1 oven would do....and when this low QL oven is running out of fuel, it no longer warms. The QL 50 oven on the other hand has lots of fuel left - but no longer warms you up anyway. If all ovens/forges etc will burn like a QL1 version, there will be a massive need to fuel with logs.

Large magical chests? I just use storage alts, way cheaper, just as easy to move and unlike the chests the alts don't decay. No risk of theft either if you don't share the password or hash. Just stuff the alts full with a couple of backpacks or satchels and you can store a ton of stuff on them.

I've outlined everything that has been kept out of Wurm Unlimited in other posts. At launch, Wurm Unlimited did not include the coupon system, macro prevention system, as well as other anti-cheat and payment systems. That alone sets a precedent that Wurm Online and Wurm Unlimited will not be clones of each other. The rift system was kept out of Wurm Unlimited, and now we are being selective over the recipes being included. Note: They haven't been stripped out as they were never included to begin with. You might say I'm picking out context, but you're using context to make an argument, as well as strong words such as "legal". The reasons we are not releasing all recipes were also made clear. There are several, but two factors are to prevent ruining of the player experience on Wurm Online - something several of you have blatantly expressed an interest in doing, and that some recipes were never intended to be distributed to WU at all. There will be Wurm Online recipes. That's a fact that's not up for debate or argument. As I did with the Rift system, I remind you now: Wurm Online has every right to "mod" it's own game (in a sense). Just as server administrators may write custom content with no obligation to release it in full, Wurm Online may also have unique content. As for the delay, it's more complicated than just some "json". It's implementing systems to ensure that we can make this update - and future updates - without causing issue to existing server configurations and not requiring end-users to have to do anything technical to apply the update. In other words the update has to work, be configurable, and ensure zero data loss. This goes for both recipes (ones users may write and add themselves) and the schemas. There will be no more commentary on what or why things are included or not included. I'd rather put my energy towards finalizing the beta and pushing it out than arguing that which will not be changing.

Breaking news! We interrupt your normally scheduled programming to bring you this important breaking news update on Shrimpalong 2016. Caught on camera !! Not too bright thief absconds with the contents of yummy picnic basket! This image was captured by Shrimpiie's security cam. Newly installed after several complaints, picnic baskets, set down for just a moment, later found emptied by disappointed Shrimpalong participants. This 'not too bright' thief was heard to say in local chat even... <actual recorded audio from security system>... [00:38:42] <Teeebomb> oh is that [00:38:46] <Meyfei> yup xD [00:38:51] <Meyfei> a setup! [00:38:52] <Teeebomb> ... a picknic basket? Not only can this 'not too bright' criminal not spell (has dumb fingers), he/she failed to notice the containers, fully loaded with free food, not 2 tiles away from the actual crime scene location! This is an actual photo taken by Shrimpiie's security system (if you are looking away from your monitor, you need to see this, look now to witness the exact instant the suspected perpetrator commits the dastardly deed): If anyone can ID the suspect from this image, please contact Shrimpiie or any of the event organizers. Crimes like this, will not go unpunished. Or, as Shrimpiie was noted to say, in local chat: "[00:13:06] <Shrimpiie> fgbsjfdhgbjfdukjefrdgbgfvdmlkcasmaskv" <if anyone can decode this obviously crustacean diatribe, please do so as all of us are wondering...> Thank you Shrimpiie, an awesome event :-) ...and special thanks to Meyfei for handling the security that brought us this very revealing shot. A crime just bearly gotten away with. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Wurming...

I can pretty much guarantee that the vast majority of dead planters were the ones I had in the 20-25 QL range, as opposed to the ones I had in the 50-55 QL range. If they don't lose QL when "unplanting", this actually has a benefit: When you plant the herb in them, the QL becomes the average of the planter and the planted herb. So, you can do this: Plant 90QL herb in 20QL planter to get a 55QL herb planter. Herb dies, leaving behind a 55QL planter. Plant 90QL herb in 55QL planter to get a 72.5QL herb planter. GOTO step 2 So, eventually, all my planters will be closer and closer to 90QL, even if they started off at 1QL, since I'm picking 90QL herbs.

Pretty sure as of now, WU will only get 80 or so recipes. So for the majority of the WO recipes we won't be able look them up in WU. Who knows when it'll be okay to share them here. I feel it's smarter to just go elsewhere to share them. And we can do that NOW. The president of useing moderation to prevent people from sharing information because it might inconvenience another who lacks enough self-restraint to not open a spoiler is really a sad thing to see.

i would rather want to see some form of consistency of ql and optics through all the furniture (all high skill items, the same wood look/colors etc. and same for lower ql category) I like the rustic style of bed, but I don't like it how tables and chairs barely fit to them.....or how more fancy furniture is so dark and slick it doesn't fit at all with anything else than the pieces that came out together with them....(namely, things like cupboard, coffer, bedside table). Wurm could really benefit from decorational item overhaul with one art direction.

big -1. most of the new furniture have that generic IKEA look. Beds are one of the few left that have different wood textures. the one you have chosen is probably the most ugly one. apple and cherry look very pretty.

True indeed, its very fun to explore, but I wouldnt mind if some of the sub-ingredients got "spoiled" (well, I dont need them anymore now since I found out most). Stuff like gravy, vinegear, bacon, pesto, passata, white sauce, stock, ... Those in itself dont ruin the fun of exploring when shared I think. You would be amazed how much those ingredients are used in recipes, so there is still a huge lot to explore Then you have the wacky ones like coconut and pineapple, those are like some of the old puzzles in click-and-point adventures that dont make sense at all, unless you start analyzing the words (in those 2 cases, it would have been more usefull if they made sand foragable for real coconuts and pineapples :p) All in all, so far I can appreciate the lack of sharing on the forum, it actually is fun throwing stuff in different containers and lore-ing till your right mousebutton breaks. But again, to many times the basic sub-recipes put a stop to my exploring, since some of them didnt realy resemble the real life way of cooking it (even if all the ingredients are available in wurm), I had to dig through logs of when the cooking system went live (since people were sharing hints left and right then) or hope someone was online who felt like sharing tips (I found a few very helpfull people in that case, not spoiling the entire recipe, but helping me on the way).

I live in mid-northern Sweden, and I can't really support that claim. Only time I've seen people wear goggles outdoors during winter is when slalom skiing, and that is to protect the eyes from snow getting in them. Another thing is that just because the suns UV light is reflected in snow, it doesn't mean monitors showing Wurm snow will blast your eyes with UV. That being said, there's a great program called flux you can download for free which allows you to lower the amount of blue light displayed by your monitor, depending on the time of day. On my laptop I have this enabled 24/7. I would reccommend something like this if you feel like Wurm winters are making your eyes sore.

We can share, it just has to happen somewhere else or in pm. Sure, its dumb but we can't force Wurm to comply. It's a much better idea to focus our sharing efforts in areas where Wurm and its officials can't interfere.

Even with a mod loader, I would not personally put data in the code. It may seem a bit more work, but separating the data from the logic is a basic principle of proper programming. I was trying to find some quotes from respected folks in the area, but my searches didn't really yield much. Essentially though, the reason for it is that you should write your code so it works regardless of the data passed in. The example above of the towel, what if I wanted to tweak the description? I'd have to edit the code, and just in by doing that I could add bugs and problems to the program. If it were in a JSON file, the program should be robust enough to detect my fat-fingered typo and perform accordingly. Now before people start going on about how the code doesn't follow this at the moment: We know. It's been on our wish list for a long time, but to fundamentally change how the code is written would be a huge undertaking. Tich saw a use for json here and ran with it, and I'm pleased with the results. I will say though that a year ago I'd have agreed with you. I've spent the last year not only supporting Wurm, but also working professionally in the field. I've had to handle (and fix) junior code all over the place. It's taught me quite a bit. So even if you use the mod loader, I'd still highly recommend using the json files. The extra layer of complication is the code itself. An error in code can lead to indeterministic results, whereas an error in your data should simply lead to the data being sanitized at best or ignored at worst.
