I think it's fair to comment that steel ones can be used in a forge along with (currently fountainpans/satchels) and have typically gone for around 40-60s each Best of luck.

Hi everyone, and a belated Top o' the morning to you all! Another week has passed in the world of Wurm, and that means it's news time again! This week we look at a new moon in the sky, upcoming changes to the tutorial server, and announce the winners of our social media comp. But enough of that, the news! Patch Notes: That's no moon... Oh wait, it totally is Several keen astronomers have sighted a new moon in the night sky! After a long period of time in the blind spot Haven is now visible, and with it some exciting changes! We plan on introducing more information behind the mystery of Haven as time goes on, but the first change is slightly obvious given the examine text... Golden Valley 2.0 We have started working on the foundation of a new tutorial and will be replacing the Golden Valley map that is currently live. Currently the project is still in its early stages, with planning and preperation being done before introducing the new map. As Golden Valley is also the login server, migrating databases is a little tricky, so due to this we will simply be changing the map with all items and buildings remaining. We will then have the current tutorial operating while we build the new tutorial behind the scenes. Current "Golden Valley" accounts will be teleported to the tutorial while we work on the new tutorial, and any deeds on the server will be disbanded. decay will also be raised in order to clear remaining items and buildings out. From there we will begin work on building the new tutorial. Once the new tutorial is finished, Golden Valley accounts will once again be able to roam. This will be occuring in the next few months, depending on how quickly planning progresses, and will include a week or two warning prior to the actual change. Once we retire the current map it will be available to download for Wurm Unlimited servers, it will have all roads and terraforming/mines in it, but no buildings. Stepping up. As mentioned last week, Solmark has stepped down as Lead Forum Moderator, to enjoy a peaceful retirement as a CA. I'm pleased to announce that Firestarter has filled the shoes of LFM, with Pandalet taking over as Assistant LFM. We will continue to work closely to ensure that practices remain as transparent and smoothly operating as possible. State of war! After a month of jumping in and out of PvP chats, I have finished my PvP review and forwarded it on to the development team, who almost took my hand with it! We will discuss this most likely on Monday or Tuesday, and have something ready to put forward next week in regards to changes and outlines, so stay tuned! The sky is falling! This week saw a fix for caves that had large spaces with floors that weren't reinforced. This affected a few players negatively, and was quickly removed. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and I have arranged with the GM team that any heratige sites that have had veins appear from this issue can have them removed via support ticket. Please note this is for heratige sites only. Wurm Unlimited giveaway! Over the past two weeks we've had a giveaway for Wurm Unlimited keys to celebrate offline mode. The number of applications has been amazing, and I'm pleased to announce the five winners are: Don S. Mirka T. Bruce H. Erik B. Sylvia F. If you didn't win (which according to the maths is well over 99% of you) Wurm Unlimited is currently 40% off, it ends soon so get in quick! Weekly question Weekly screenshot This weeks screenshot is from our CA Seedlings St Patricks Day sale. Seedlings sold Green forester hats with a competition requiring players to submit screenshots of themselves wearing said hats (damn commercialisation!) The entire thread can be found here! That's it from me this week, I hope you all have an awesome weekend, and may the rare rolls be ever in your favour! Retrograde and the Wurm team.

this has taken me a week thus far, that's from sun up till sun down, for the past week. around 100 hours (and yes i have no life lol) 3000 stone bricks, probably double that in stone shards, 3000 mortar, probably double that in sand and clay, 500 odd thatch for the roof, (the roofing styles in this game doesnt keep the rain out) around another 500 clay for the walls inside, (timber framed walls as opposed to stone, still like to keep the natural feel of timber in there) around 200 beams made from trees that i harvested. the staircase that will lead from the front entrance to the upstairs comes in at around 100 pieces marble floors (still unfinished) around 180 - 200 pieces and at least 3 times that in mining it. then comes all the luxurious furnishings to go inside , so still alot of work to be done, yet, but i thought i would show you all what i've got done so far. comments and suggestions welcome on how to furnish it, so it screams high status.

Would be nice to have somewhere in the mail GUI where you can see a history of all mail sent (With item, ql etc) from your char (say... 4 weeks) along with if that mail had been accepted by the recipient. I believe all the information should be there, juist would be nice for us people selling things knowing that our mail had been accepted or not.

I was screwing around with client authentication today (trying to figure out why i couldn't log in to one specific server), and discovered something... Find your WurmLauncher folder (should be under steamapps\common\Wurm Unlimited) Create a file named steam_appid.txt inside WurmLauncher folder Write "366220" in it (no quotes) Run WurmLauncher.exe (not from steam library!) ??? Alts, alts everywhere! steam_appid.txt file, with 366220 inside (wurm app id on steam) in WurmLauncher folder disables the relaunch-through-steam check in WurmLauncher.exe, and allows opening multiple clients easily. Yep, that simple Technical details: During startup wurm calls SteamAPI_RestartAppIfNecessary which checks if the client was launched through steam. If it wasn't (= was manually launched from the .exe) this function returns true, causing the client to terminate. A new copy is then launched by steam. For whatever reason, if you have a steam_appid.txt file this function will always return false, allowing the client to proceed without being launched through steam. Since the check for multiple running copies is in steam itself - it's never checked and you can run as many instances as you want. Server list stuff and authentication doesn't seem to be affected by this (as far as i can tell). Disclaimer: I have no idea what effects this might have or how legit Rolf or Valve would consider this. Use at your own risk. Added, from here: https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/drm So it's seams to be meant for testing i guess. *shrug*

Would be great to have a new vehicle - a mobile scaffolding. Could be operated similar to a catapult, height set by winching up and down. This way neighbouring mine collapses in high ceiling mines could be fixed restoring the original ceiling shape - and also creating high ceilings in already existing mines would be way easier than now.

As far as I know, the current Friend ranking system doesn't do anything, so I think a simple tweak to the Friends list that would make everyone happier would be setting varying levels of detail in relation to your online and server status according to what Rank of Friend they are. I think this would help people who do not want to have other people constantly knowing what server they're on, or what server you were last on. Plus, it would make the current ranking system more useful. Trusted Status: Can see if Online/Offline Server: Can see what server you're on, and what server you were last on if offline Last Connected: Can see when you were last online Friends Status: Can see if Online/Offline Server: Cannot see server you're on, or the last server you were on Last Connected: Can see when you were last online Contacts Status: Can see if Online/Offline Server: Cannot see server you're on, or the last server you were on Last Connected: Cannot see when you were last online Other Status: Cannot see if Online/Offline Server: Cannot see server you're on, or the last server you were on Last Connected: Cannot see when you were last online Thoughts?

Updated to here. If you aren't seeing the changes reload the page. Thanks to some dev help I removed another 20 or so disbanded deeds, mostly in the east. They may help some more later but I know there's lots more. Please help me keep the map accurate and post any disbanded deeds you know about. In the future I should have a twitter monitor set up to help me with this ongoing problem but for now I really need your help and and I appreciate it greatly. I have some exciting updates coming to the interactive map and I can't wait for you all to see them. Stay tuned!

Now here's a blurb for the box; This game has the most immersive and complete virtual world i have ever seen. Seriously, i don't know a single MMO that manages to simulate an actual living, breathing and changing world like Wurm.

If something shows as a bag it means you don't have the texture files on your client for the model. I believe for this to work you also have to have the client modloader installed on your client, and have the serverpacks.mod enabled. I don't use hitching post myself, so I am not positive though. But the serverpacks mod lets the server download needed files to the client, so it seems likely.

Heh, the more I read about players' view of the old tutorial vs the new one, the more I realize that I may be the only person in Wurm who really, really likes the current tutorial. To me, there is something magical about this starter village that exists on Golden Valley right now. I started the game with the old tutorial, but made an alt when the new one was built. Perhaps my perception was skewed at that point, because I knew a lot about Wurm already, but looking at the cool design of that village and reading a note that everything you see here can be player built made my mind boggle. Talk about sandbox! I can make all this in the game!? I can have it how I want it!? Wow. The pop-up boxes also worked for me, as I visited different areas to explore that GV village. I guess it was just my kind of a tutorial. Ever since then, I have seen many people state how the tutorial before the current GV village was superior. The usual arguments revolve around the fact that the old one was much more interactive. The new one, instead, is a showcase of Wurm but it doesn't allow one to actually experience what's about to happen. I can understand those points of view and I can see what most of you mean. I suppose interractivity is the key to the new player experience, especially in a game that doesn't hold your hand after you join a server and where you need to know a thing or two about how to survive and make that first shelter. Very good points. I would, therefore, like to suggest a compromise between the two tutorials. I think all the points that people are already bringing in this post are very valid. The tutorial must be interactive and it must allow you to make that first plank, to let you dig terrain, to show you the uphill and downhill speeds, to teach you how to use a sickle to replant a tree, to educate you about how to use differrent terrain (sand, clay, peat) for various tasks and to just give you a lot of actual hands-on, as opposed to viewer experiences. So, I am on board here. An interactive tutorial, like the one we had before the current GV village is the key. But here is my suggestion. After the players go through all this, perhaps they should turn a corner and then suddenly, after all their experiences, find themselves in a GV village similar to what we have now. This would happen at the very end of the tutorial. There, we can place a sign that says, "all you just learned, plus many more exciting activities, will allow you to make villages like this. All you see here was player made". The idea would be that after experiencing Wurm first hand and learning how to use tools, you suddenly see where all this can take you. Your imagination is the limit and the very few suprisingly simple tasks that you have just been exposed to can lead to something you may have not even imagined. Welcome to a sandbox world. Let's combine the two into a mind-blowing welcome to Wurm.

Great news on the new tutorial, in my opinion the old one with the activities actually shown to the new players was much more intuitive. I HAVEN't seen the new moon yet, will clean the lens of my spyglass...

Thanks, good feedback. Maybe the dehorsing and throwing is a bit extreme. Just seems silly, albeit admittedly great fun, to kite a large group of mindless predictable AI around in a circle while someone caps.

This is a copy/paste from a bug submission that can be found here. " They can attack and kill you while they are hitched but you cannot attack them back to defend yourself. Parking them on top or near someone AFK and killing them with invulnerable hell horses is crap! This needs changed. If a creature aggros you, hitched or not, you should be permitted to kill it." (from bug report) I believe the fairest fix to this is to make a hitched hellhorse behave like a normal hitched horse/bull/bison and that it not be an aggressive creature that can initiate attacks because a hitched horse is not able to be attacked on Freedom even if it attacks you. They can be used to kill AFK people is my primary concern. The death caused by hitched hellhorses was accidental and not intentional but if it can be done accidentally, it can be done intentionally. With the potential there for griefing, I feel this needs serious consideration and a prompt fix. EDIT: I have never been attacked by bears or trolls used as cart pullers but if they are aggressive and invulnerable also, they need this fix as well.

HI all, This was reverted in todays update, cave tiles will no longer collapse in sections such as these. The existing cave ins are still there however, so please do make sure to mine them out while they are singular to avoid changing the ceiling or floor shapes
  34. 1 point
Yes, plenty of ways to grief other players, however, I do not believe it to be intended that hitched aggro animals should be immune from auto attack back if they attack a player. It is up to the DRIVER of the vehicle to ensure his animals stay well away from the weapons of the other players if he insists on driving a vehicle with aggro animals, not the other players who operate around said vehicle to always be on guard because the mobs cannot be touched when they attack a player. Imagine the uproar if someone parks a cared for and hitched hellhorse on a spot and just forgets about him, effectively tying the whole area up from anyone deeding there, for as long as the horse shall live? Nobody can touch the horse, he is immune from ever being killed. This does not seem viable to me in a survival game where players have the option to auto fight back when any aggro creature attacks them. If the mob happens to be hitched, it should also be open to be attacked back if it attacks a player first. Obviously, since this can lead to other griefing where you can just walk up to the cart and just wait for the creature to attack you then you can kill it, and steal its gear, the only viable option is to make hitched aggro mobs, NON AGGRO while hitched.
  35. 1 point
I'm just saying they either need to be non-aggro while hitched or we have to be allowed to defend ourselves. I prefer not to kill someone's pets but I also prefer not to lose hard to recover fight skill to a god-mode horse. I would rather go out in a blaze of glory for the losses than to just go out in a blaze.

@ ^ video There's definitely some merit in this notion. I've noticed that on occasions that I've been emotionally reserved, I can choose to involve myself, and the emotional reward is majorly heightened. Who screams on rollercoasters or fairground rides ? You might not be scared, I never am, but choosing to express yourself vocally - to be involved in the situation, enhances the experience even if it's only to laugh at yourself for behaving in such a ridiculous manner. And of course, being involved in a negative emotional situation, by the same mechanic, sucks you in and makes you feel stuff against your will. Forcing yourself to do what you hate to do is MASSIVELY draining. And being stuck in a situation where you have no choice but to do something can drain you to the point where you physically cannot force yourself to even move, let alone live up to expectations. This notion is to turn that mechanic to your advantage and force a positive reaction. Though this would appear to only be useful if you're not at the stage where 'I'm lying here, and no matter how much I coax myself or order myself, I can't move'.

In wurm, one of the things i have personally always done is mix other things in with the action timers. I've learned to program, ive studied for courses ive taken/am taking, around in premiere or photshop. If you mix the active parts of wurm with the active parts of other things, there is very little downtime.

If I understand it correctly, steel weapons are more durable than iron weapons. And that's fine and makes logical sense, but given the effort required to make steel, it seems like a pretty weak trade off. Not to mention, because steel is physically a harder metal (and thus more durable), it would also mean that it can be made to be sharper. Thus, it should at the very least have better armor penetration. I'd like to suggest that steel weapons get a little armor pen to go along with it's durability. As it stands now, steel weapons are pretty rare and I think that's partly because they are such a pain to make, given their benefit. As an example, in a recent attempt to make bulk steel, 1200 iron lumps were consumed to produce around 100 steel lumps. That's a lot of iron, enough to make a 12x's more iron weapons as compared to steel. But steel weapons are not 12x's better than iron, and I didn't even mention the coal that was needed (which is brutal by itself). Durability is trumped by the amount of iron and coal you need to make that steel sword. tl;dr: Steel weapons should at the very least penetrate more than iron in addition to being more durable.
