    Exactly. That's the biggest reason I can't commit time to Wurm Unlimited. No way I'm trusting all my time and effort and money to some guy I don't REALLY know running some server out of his basement or whatever.

    Ok just in case anyone tires to turn this into something else, Chulirac is correct, Those in my ally and freinds are well familiar with my on again off again connection issues. I can stick around to sell off a portion of rather nice little collection of shinies if I want. And I can also pop in with an alt to say hello and harass long time friends if I want. I have friends on different servers I still plan on visiting and enjoying their wonderful vibe. I love the Wurm community. That said, no I am not going to WU, no I do not hate Rolf , no I do not hate Wurm. I love the game have been a long time supporter and will continue to be in what capacity I can (maybe hang on test server when I am able) No drama here, no big story , no pvp , Sorry guys it is purely circumstantial.

    Exactly this. There is MUCH more shenanigans going on in private servers than official servers. Not only that, but private servers aren't ran with a business model behind them, so while the lead admin of such a server might care right now about the players, he/she is likely to get burned out, stop caring, and either scrap the server or stop making update checks due to the fact that he/she has nothing invested in the outcome. I'm sure WU is great for those who really enjoy having their own private server, but it's silly to believe that any of those servers are more secure than the official ones. That's called wishful thinking.

    You have it completely backwards. The overall experience of player-run servers is generally always much worse than those run by a gaming company. You have kids banning you because they don't like something you said, or did, or just because they don't like your face. That kind of nonsense doesn't happen on official servers. Not in my experience.

    Looking at this thread again, I have to wonder, why is there no cash shop component to this? Why should an infinite clay tile be creatable by harvesting a few fruit trees, but a single, depletable vein of ore costs 50s? If we're going to reduce the impact of regional resources, why not stay consistent and make some money off it? Would also mitigate some of the impact to PvP, depending on your local credit card hero population.

    Wurm is pretty much based on Medieval Europe with some scandinavian influences (Knarrs and some Swedish mythological monsters). I think it could be really interesting to have more culture. Here are a few very interesting items from various real life cultures: -A Celtic Torc, which was jewellery worn by men and women. -A Macuahuitl. Hernan Cortes claimed these could decapitate a horse in one blow, and could match even the best European sword! There were many different types of blades too, for blunt, slashing, piercing damage... As well as "customisation" by painting it. -No picture, but Germans used armbands to denote rank. Leaders of armies/warbands/pirates were known as "ring-givers", which literally meant "leader" to them (it's called a kenning, two words fused changing the meaning). -The Khopesh was a brilliant weapon, and it could be used with the front or the back of the blade, as well as the tip or the blunt part near the hilt. Its curved blade makes it deadly against shields. -Almost everyone in Antiquity and Dark Ages Europe used throwing spears. -Sarbacanes and Atlatl's were also very useful weapons used by the Aborigines of Australia. -Germanic tribes dyed their hairs wild colours like red, blue, green or white. The Celts in Iberia, Gaul and Britain all had the possibility of dying their hair white. Romans also dyed their hair red, blonde, blue, or any combination of those. One Roman emperor dyed his hair a golden metallic colour by sprinkling gold dust on his hair! What do you think? Could we move away from European weapons and items to be more culturally diverse?

    if i didn't have the security of an official server i'd probably get back into mc's ftb and wait patiently for that forthcoming Cyberpunk thing. or maybe dive into shards online. as above, a big kudos for those that muck about with WU but there is no substitute for the permanence of official servers. If people prefer WU to WO then it's awesome that it was released. two different types of player. one just wants to have a laugh and one wants to have fun by investing time. my first `map wipe` was literally heart breaking, i'd imagine we want to spare people from that experience is all. Nice idea, I'm looking forward to the day my hardware can play a sandbox MMO in VR, I suspect that's excactly what i'll do when that happens.

    1 post account selling 700e worth of high end gear. Where did it come from? I start thinking about hacked accounts, or infiltrated deeds, due to a mistake in permissions. Even if a trade is completed cleanly, it doesn't mean it was "safe". These forums are a place where many high value trades are completed every day and there is a lot of integrity among the players. There is no need for stealthy tactics here.

    I'm going to commit a cardinal sin here in Wurm, and say that I actually enjoy sailing. Sailing is fantastic. Sure you aren't really accomplishing much by way of skills, but it definitely helps with your navigation and exploration abilities. Sailing against the wind is a nightmare, of course, but if you have proper wind speeds --or choose which days to sail based on wind speed/direction--then sailing is a lot of fun. It's the reason why I run a delivery contract business in the game. Sailing is just another example of one of those mechanics in the game that is very frustrating or dull to some, but fulfilling and exciting to others.

    New Player Scenario #1. Our new player finds an area he wants to settle. He needs flat ground to build his first 1x1 shack to survive the night. He then spends 10 minutes in CA_HELP chat just figuring out how to dig in Wurm because it's anything but intuitive. He's already frustrated when he's met by this in Events: You do not have the digging skill to dig here. He starts to look for a flatter area when a bear suddenly kills him. At this point he's wondering why he even bothered to log on. New Player Scenario #2 Our new player finds the remnants of an abandoned settlement. A large flattened area with paved slabs ready for building, and it even has cobblestone paths connecting it to the highway! This is great, he thinks to himself. I can make my first house here, and the area is so nice I might even deed it and live here while I learn more about the game.

    I refuse to believe what you had to say needed 2405 words, so I will skim. - Core game mechanics aren't going anywhere. Get comfy with your timers or go to WU and turn them down. - Price is in line with and even under modern mmos. - GMs are a lost cause unless the issue is clearly defined in the rules. This is actually in line with modern mmos, it is just easier to notice here due to the lower population. - Unless Rolf wants to offer me a paid job, I don't care about Rolf. I don't care about you either by the way, lots of people write essays here, you just have no concept of brevity. - Not everyone wants to play when you decide to check the /who. Not everyone wants to play every day or week or month. Not everyone wants to play with you. - Wurm Online isn't meant to be played one way or another. It is a service offered by a business. Many hermits are whales. Get comfy with the idea. - Whole point of paying for a deed is to claim land. You can't claim my claimed land. Doesn't matter if I am playing, I am paying. - "Griefers" aren't going anywhere. Change your definition, learn to get along, or git gud and fix what you don't like. Preferably with a big expensive deed. - Infinite space on WU. - We have had fast decay. It sucks. Its also more work for the server to do. - Don't bring up the economy in a frickin topic multiple posts long, what is wrong with you?! - GUI is one of those things you need to hack together in WU and show how it is done if you want to see change. -Isn't mythmoor the one people keep getting cussed out and banned on? Legitimate question because that is what I keep hearing here. Cute that you thought putting that in there was gonna get people joining up with you though. I really only respond for my own entertainment though. Rolf isn't gonna read your post and I feel bad for anyone on staff who chunks through it. Development is a dialogue with the consumer. Slow dialogue, slow development. You aren't helping with this. This post makes more sense in the review section for WU on steam than the suggestions section on WO.

    I always had a dream about making something big so i had Odynn to keep Calmport at ingame map T19 up and not disbanding, Finally i started building it, it dont perhaps seems so much, but the plan is to build a large marble bridge out to a made island out in the water, dont sound as much but i want to make a light house there and 3 Colossus, 1 looking East 1 Looking South and last towards West. the light house ill gonna try match the Colossus height if possible in middle of theese 3 ones, i will Dye them all, with highest possible rgb i can make, South will be Blue for sure, East and West i need suggestions, and ill prefeer rather easy colors, dont wanna do a dark purple or a orange one. I have started my Project with help from Odynn and Gemfinder and when the building towards Marble bridge and Colossus starts ppl are all free to help and be apart of it. Will post some pictures of area we do and are at, it will take some time before i can start building / raising island. Just got up a 100% work area. Ill keep posting and have ppl updated, i know many ppl are busy theese days and so on, But this is a fun project i am inviting ppl to join as soon i fixing the road - farm area and have calculated how much mats i really need, but ill gonna make this one just coz its a challenge. We started to work 2016-01-15 and we did this: Some Hours Later we was another point and i had started relocating mine entrence coz its in way of road leading here. ( u ppl know me and colors ill like them ^^ ) And when i logged of and posting this it looks like this, Relocated mine entrence abit flooded but concrete fix that part, Spirit castle up and courier 95 so now we can work more efficiently.. as it so far it dont look that special, but from that point where the marble braziers are i want to extend with a bridge need to plan and redo some, in my mine i got 6 uncovered marble veins so its enough ill should guess, ill try to keep this updated. And we have a added member to project Yggrasil, My irl friend Redreamer that started play this game and Really like it. Gone awhile now and i had a hdd chrash i lost all pics + new update had my buildings go poof with out any clue why, But my Shrine i am Built inside mine is still there and currently rebuilding castle, Some new pics, and i been busy with other projects aswell so it takes time.     Since we now have birdcages, I'm sure most of us would rather have something prettier than a chicken in them. Rather than ask for new birds to be created for breeding, how about just creating new eggs to find to make the cages. Go foraging and find a small blue egg, and when you use it to create a birdcage you get a robin inside. A small speckled egg would create a goldfinch. And a few other eggs for parrots, mynahs, canaries, etc. This way the devs only need to create the caged bird and eggs, instead of the birds in the wild to be collected and raised.

[23:10:23] The long sword blade needs to be sharpened with a whetstone. Nothing. No rare. Now I could understand if I failed to improve the item, but there is no reason for the visual/event message to show up if I'm just going to fail to make it rare anyway. My suggestion is this: Remove the rare roll message and visual effect on all failed rolls. Only show rare roll message and visual on successful rolls.

    Dont getcha pannies in a bunch. Quite a few things predate the time period of Wurm in technology, but does not mean they fit. For example, oil wells, hot air balloons, various navigational tools, sounding line, chariots, proper tacking, sea anchors.., I find that a large portion of people playing are educated or have at least watched history channel but there is an attempt to stay within the time period (while keeping things fun), but it is still a game and if Rolf thinks backpacks and glowing casseroles are good next to glowing iron then probably the way it is going to be (besides it is vastly more useful than the pain if you could not do it) The main point as Warlander put it is that we need uses for the ones we have first, seriously not much you can do with tin, zinc, bronze, brass, silver, gold, or lead already; with that in mind what would you use platinum for? It was discovered a loooong time ago, but the reason no one cared was they had no use for it other than a bit of poisonous jewelry; i do not think hydrogen fuel cells are gonna be a thing for a while in Wurm.

    Hi there, I am currently having ping fluctuations and packet loss. This means that the new graphics jar keeps corrupting and "jamming" halfway through. Could Code Club please host the jar files on an official torrent?     Don't delete your graphics.jar. Just close the client that's in "limbo" through the task manager. If that doesn't work, then can go through Nomadikhan's fix. But I personally know the closing limbo clients fixed my issue the last time this came up. If you go through Nomadikhan's fix, pretty sure you'll just have to download the entire graphics again, where as this would just make it so you have to do the filecheck again, I believe.

    While I personally like idea of new metal types, I think that more uses for current ones should be added first. Currently, there are only very few cases in which metals other than iron/steel are useful.

    Hello, Change which allows to build fences below water level is enabled on test server and needs testing before it can go live. We also shortened timers of stuff moving actions (like push/rotate/load/unload) both off and on deed, with actions on deed being near instant. From other changes - you can forage iron rocks on grass now and rummage flint from rock tiles (very small chance). Please also post any bugs, comments or questions you find here. Good luck!

    Since you've already done some messing around with tooltips, could you say whether or not it would be possible to extend the tooltip functionality to display an item's enchantment data? Would be a godsend to no longer have to sit there manually naming everything.

    Has anyone tested this recently? Friend of mine made a ql81 pile with 81 effective coalmaking. It was a walnut pile, so she was getting 89ql charcoal. Possibly it was ninja fixed.

    Creating hills and terraces from flatlands is not much different from a vice versa kind of activity. But the flatlands can be used for farming or building right away. I fail to see any issue, except:

    I will respond with the usual No to these lazy easy mode suggestions about returning the landscapes to their original appearance just because some players don't like the look of what others have done to transform areas for various purposes. Players are what shape these blank slates of servers created out of the nothingness by map generation. Travel to the more remote areas upon any server and there is little to impress anyone within this vast emptiness, other than the potential they offer to anyone that envisions what can be created by themselves out of them. Still, there is the option for anyone so disturbed by their transformation to put the time into reshaping them once again in their own image. This is the legacy left by former players long after they have departed. Please do not disturb and let their final flickering flames of reflection remain. R.I.P. =Ayes=

    Shiraek, Your place is a piece of Deliverance history, as I believe you placed it on the day the server opened shortly before I placed my own. For this reason alone it would be a sad departure to disband it. Possibly better to just shrink it down to a 1 silver per month upkeep and let it remain, since at that minimal amount it is not much of an expense to carry. This way you will at least preserve the built up area and have a small retreat where your fond memories may continue to reside. Safe Travels =Ayes=
