As it stands, the event notifications when someone pays you something are completely useless: Example: you sell 10 items by COD then you receive this message - [23:44:41] Your available money in the bank is now *******************. Now this message is completely useless because it implies that ( a ) you know exactly how much you had before in the bank ( b ) you know who picked what up and ( c ) how much they paid for. The only good message is that it tells you your current balance. Proposed changes: 1. One additional line in your event log, something like this: [23:44:41] [Nickname] has paid you [xx gold,] [xx silver,] [xx copper and] [xx iron] for retrieving [item name (enchants)] from the spirits. [23:44:41] Your available money in the bank is now ********************. 2. And if you were offline, next time you log in you should get a notification like: [23:44:41] [Nickname] has received [item name (enchants)] from the spirits. (thx Pandalet) 3. Mailing log: (thx Niki, Stormblade & Kadore) By right-clicking the mailbox there should be an option called 'Mailing History', much like 'Settlement History' where you can see the latest x amount of mails you sent and their status: [time][date] You have sent [item name (enchants)] to [nickname] [(if COD) for [xx gold,] [xx silver,] [xx copper and] [xx iron].] Then change the same line accordingly: [time][date] [Nickname] has paid you [xx gold,] [xx silver,] [xx copper and] [xx iron] for retrieving [item name (enchants)] from the spirits. or for non-COD: [time][date] [Nickname] has retrieved [item name (enchants)] from the spirits. or for send back: [time][date] [Nickname] has sent back [item name (enchants)]. or for 2 weeks expiration on same server: [time][date] [Nickname] did not pick up [item name (enchants)] so the spirits returned it to you. And a separate log entry (not change the same line) upon item destruction: [time][date] The spirits destroy [item name (enchants)] [because you did not pick it up in time] (or) [because it interferes with their inter island returns policy policy] Why add the enchants you might ask? Simple: easy log tracking and troubleshooting by players as well as GMs if something goes wrong.

Signup thread is now up: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/130745-goblin-leader-sunday-sep-20th-9pm-eu-3pm-est-noon-pst-signup-thread/ This is not a signup thread, just a heads up that it has been found and that we plan on doing a public fight on Sunday September 20th, probably at 9pm central EU / 3pm EST / noon PST. All loot will be rolled including the crown and tome charges (if they drop). A proper signup thread will follow in a few days, so no need to sign up here.

Perhaps it is worded strangely but its not nearly as scary as one may think. If you stack a queue of actions and go AFK, when that queue ends you will be standing there doing nothing until you return. When you return you will obviously be looking at your screen to begin new actions and thus would see any pop up or whatever. If you are standing AFK doing nothing obviously you wont be expected to answer a pop up. If you are not answering a pop up after 30 actions something will start to look suspicious. The 3 mins isn't some hard cap its just a general example to make sure that people are aware they need to not be stacking queues and queues and queues without at least glancing at the screen between. Hopefully this explains it a little better, things like shield training are not even actions so please don't panic it is only asking that people do try to pay attention between queues.

Perhaps if the gameplay experience was inherently more engaging versus lending itself so easily towards the queueing of actions whilst playing other games or watching TV, this would be less of an issue. I'm not condoning someone automating endless prayers or spell casts or any number of other actions of an exploitive nature, but maybe the game producers should better understand their own game and their customer base (not to mention communicating more clearly) before they do these things. There's a difference between casual gameplay in a game that has non-engaging mechanics and setting up botting apps to automate for hours on end - let's use some common sense. What happened to the common practice of issuing a warning (perhaps even a suspension of an avatar for a month, etc) before permanent banning, especially if you intend to scrutinize more closely? It seems more and more the goal is to drive people away than to draw them to the game. Feel free to flame away.

I had once thought it would be nice, once a month maybe, to have a Pioneer Sunday. A group of armed experienced players take a horses-and-cart (or many carts) with some jumpstart resources (bricks, clay, lumber, nails, barrels of water) and meet at one of the spawning areas, inviting all new players interested to come along. Find a spot (scouted in advance) where they can put a guard tower in the center and "rough prep" enough land for 3-6 homesteads, doing any hard/rough terraforming that might be completely beyond the ability of the newbies, but leaving untouched most of the wilderness. In the center, build a Community Hall 3x3 with a forge, loom, bed. Find a spot outside to place a well for community water, a single community mine. Maybe they find iron and maybe they don;t, its a start. A team of experienced stonemasons, diggers, woodcutters, miners and carpenters can do all of this in a few hours. Leave it mostly rough and unfinished however. Do NOT build any houses, fences, anything but a guard tower, a community center, a well and a mine. A "sponsoring" experienced veteran who lives roughly in the area (within an hour), holds the writ for at least 3-6 months to ensure it stays in the hands of someone who is permanent, but it is permissions to allow All Kingdom access. Preferable a spot remote or completely abandoned or at minimum, that has the wholehearted support of any existing deeds. Nothing that is crammed down the throats of existing nearby settlements. Any new players who want to make a new start there, stay behind. They can stay in the community Hall under the shadow of the guard tower until they build their own new homestead sites nearby. They all agree in advance to welcome any new neighbors to that spot. That was the deal. The veterans ALL return to the starting spawn with any new players who decide not to stay. The new players who stayed behind are now completely on their own, a new community bound together by their inexperience. It's not a single village but a homestead cluster of independent players. All of them new. If some want to team up and others want to stay solo, they all can. If some want to deed and others don;t, they all can. Everyone agrees to never deed over the COMMUNITY CENTER + well + mine so it can forever be useful to any passing traveler or new settler, try to keep them in repair as a local volunteer effort, and to try to resolve all future disputes amiably. There will be some disputes, eventually. There always are. That's their problem now and the veterans stay out of it. The next month, the veteran players pick a new starting spawn for that months Pioneer Sunday. The cart goes out again into the wilderness and spends the entire day there. A new community site to be built. Twelve over the course of one year. Different servers or regions each time. Would need one good organizer and a team of semi-local volunteers to work out -- dates, areas, advanced publicity. This is a little different than your idea (which is a perfect counterpoint) of individual veteran players helping individual new players, across all servers all regions with no schedule. Help a newbie find a spot, it can be 30-40 minutes away from your own place if you want no neighbors, but you probably know good places out there better than they do. One important thing I think for veterans to remember -- don't have hidden strings on your "gift." Don't expect them to be ever grateful to you. A true gift is one that has zero strings or expectation, it is truly a gift and not a vague favor you can benefit from later down the road. They don't have to like you, of feel indebted, or even remember what you once did for them. It's a real GIFT.

Three minutes you risk being banned, now off the top of my head what people would likely AFK for long periods of time for would be... Shieldtraining Fishing New accounts using any form of skiller tools (and in some cases normal tools) Towerbashing Spawnbashing Wallbashing Minedoor bashing Fighting very weak but commonplace mobs such as towerguards Someone panfilling large amounts for you Repairing Meditation in an attempt to get a question Lockpicking queues Reinforced cave wall disintegration It's just a bit odd, literally what i do with 9/10ths of my time in wurm is basically me shieldtraining, or raiding (which involves fighting a large amount of commonplace mobs, catapulting, bashing walls/minedoors, picking into doors/caves and safemine disintegration.) As for shieldtraining, I have a timer set to every 10-15 minutes that will let me know when to come back and repair my shield and get stamina. For raiding, its very common for entire 20+ man groups to literally queue up 5+ actions that last for 30 seconds for 4+ hours at a time, repeatedly. Quite literally I spend the majority of my time ingame AFK unless i'm actively grinding something like a smithing skill for instance, or im in active combat. My entire playstyle is tailored around my ability to go AFK to study and/or work from home.

On the contrary, it's great. In old times ONE person could wall in an entire island and it was technically their's. People would build a 1x1 house and a 300+ tile long fence to utilize the rule's loop hole to take control of very large areas of land... and because it was offdeed, if you bashed it (since offdeed there's honestly no way of proving ownership) they'd GM you and you'd be temp banned or worse if it was a repeat offense. "Deed it and own it" aka "deed it or lose it" is THE fair way to allow palyers to own land. So you tell me... should a player own an island because they deeded it or simply because they were the first person to completely wall it in?

Initial purpose is a way to convert wood scraps into a usable lamp fuel via a labor intensive means, but later it opens the door to other distillation Could be included under Alchemy/Natural Substances, or seen as an entry level into BREWING skill HISTORY OF WOOD ALCOHOL In their embalming process, the ancient Egyptians used a mixture of substances, including methanol, which they obtained from the pyrolysis of wood. Pure methanol, however, was first isolated in 1661 by Robert Boyle, when he produced it via the distillation of buxus (boxwood) It later became known as "pyroxylic spirit". In 1834, the French chemists Jean-Baptiste Dumas and Eugene Peligot determined its elemental composition. They also introduced the word "methylene" to organic chemistry, forming it from Greek methy = "wine" + hȳlÄ“ = wood (patch of trees), with Greek language errors: "wood (substance)" (Greek ξÏλον, xylon) was intended, and the components are in the wrong order for Greek. The term "methyl" was derived in about 1840 by back-formation from "methylene", and was then applied to describe "methyl alcohol". This was shortened to "methanol" in 1892 by the International Conference on Chemical Nomenclature.[41] The suffix -yl used in organic chemistry to form names of carbongroups, was extracted from the word "methyl". How to Make Wood Alcohol Through Distillation All of your scrap wood and paper clippings can be turned into a fuel source that you can use around your home. Distilling wood is an excellent way to turn old scraps in to something useful again. Methanol or wood alcohol is the liquid chemical that wood gives off when it is distilled. It is used in antifreeze and it can be used to produce biodiesel as well. Other People Are Reading How to Make Homemade Hard Liquor Homemade Methanol Things You'll Need A fire pit or propane burner A large metal pot with a lid Cooking thermometer Metal tube Wood and paper shavings Metal container Instructions Obtain a heat source for your distilling. This could be a fire pit or a propane or natural gas burner. You can also use an electric burner. Mount a large pot over the temperature source. Put a thermometer in the pot to track the temperature of the wood and water mixture. The thermometer will be important for making sure the temperature of the mixture stays at the right level throughout the distillation. Obtain a condenser tube and drill a hole in the lid of your pot that is sized to the tube. A condenser tube is a metal tube that the alcohol travels through as it evaporates. Attach the condenser tube to your lid. Attach the other end of your condenser to an additional pot or bucket that will serve as your holding container. Ensure that this container is covered to prevent the loss of alcohol. Place your wood shavings in to the pot and fill with water. Heat it until you reach 78.3 degrees Celsius and keep it at that temperature. As the wood breaks down, it will release alcohol into the condenser tube and slowly drip down into your holding container. You can distill the alcohol again to improve its purity. Tips & Warnings Perform this procedure outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Wear protective gear and stand away from the pot while the wood is distilling.

New players... There are quite a bit of new people coming into my local from time to time, and then the occasional posts asking where to settle (i prefer this over the term 'deed', since the word deed means a document. Living on your deed, is kind of... ruining it and making the ink smudge, but enough fun). They all have requirements, some don't know what they want, but we can help them. Others go as far as wanting to stay in a shack, away from any deed. I have helped a few by inviting them to my area and showing them the lay of the land, where mines are, where water can be found, forests and dangers. With this post, I want to invite any new players wishing to find a place, to contact me in game if you need help. I know large parts of Independence now, years of galloping around helped. While I prefer staying closer to the inside/central parts (I can get to slick, cybaru, gumbo, black dog, FM, DFM, steppe in relatively short time), I won't mind helping with the more southern areas either. I also want to invite other players to do the same in their areas, maybe list yourself on this post, or a post like this, so they can find us, PM us and we can get them sorted. Some think they need to live by the coast, when inland living can have great rewards and vibes! So we can help them understand what they need and if they really need to live near 50 tar tiles. I know of so many great places in my area, and I wouldn't mind neighbours around the hill. Raw and wild, or flat and previously terraformed. Foresty, sandy, rocky, let me know. I am north of dragon fang mountain, so not too hard. I might be available some days to pick you up in the large cart of doom, and bring you over too. But do move in, Independence *bias!* awaits you.

I don't see it listed in the changes, but can we revert the change to number alignment in windows (ql, dmg, weight, etc)? It makes no sense at all to line it up to the left. At the very least, give us a toggle to put it back how it should be. Image for those who haven't seen / don't know what I mean:

Have to agree with Prof here. If the game makes you stand and watch an action timer for 3 minutes per action and you can queue 5 actions then you need to change that action before you request us to come and look at it every 3 minutes. If you require attention in the game then you must give more immersion rather than stupidly long action timers. As an example as a new player you find 3 very low ql highly damaged backpacks and you want to repair them, that is over 5 minutes of actions timers as a new player
  18. 3 points
Wait a sec, so I have to keep looking at the pig or cow or whatever while shieldtraining? 3 minutes is too short of a time. Like propheteer said fishing, destroying, and other action queing will make no sense now. If i am running a second client while shield bashing on 1st, that's risky as well? A big question here is: Players will atleast get message from GM to verify if they are macroing or not? Or will the players be directly banned if they go afk for 3 minutes or longer while shieldtraining or something like that?? Caus they might be watching at the screen the whole time, just not moving. Need confirmation if a GM message will come to verify whether the player is macroing or not.

(Updated as of September 9th, 2016) I have taken over maintaining the community map from Capi. Please post your deeds in this thread, also for now I will take submissions via PM. If you send your submission this way I cannot guarantee I will remember it Please read the following rules/guidelines before you post: You may only submit deeds that belong to you, and that you have explicit permission to submit. Submitting purposely erroneous entries will result in me ignoring anything you submit in the future. Tar and clay pits that are submitted to the map must be usable by newbies and the general public (Generally at least 2x2 tiles, and flat.) Mailboxes must be accessible by anyone who wants to use it. Please submit changes using the community map X/Y grid. Images pointing out the exact location on the map are welcome. You are encouraged to: Report disbanded deeds that are still on the map Report spelling errors. (I speak american english, don't pester me about spelling "harbour" as "harbor." Although deeds will be however you spelled it in the game ) Submit newly constructed public highways for inclusion on the map. Submit public tar and clay pits. Map updates will now just be in .jpg using the updated map dump. http://www.karthcraft.net/pristinemap/CommunityMapPristine.jpg

Marlon, At first glance your idea is a positive one but I prefer to handle each individual individually and not make a blanket advertisement of being the person to come to for finding a place to settle within the Local area. Brash's suggestion is a pretty nice one for those who want to devote time to it and yet it requires future oversight in at least pointing new players to that spot so that they can settle there for a time if they choose. I did something similar to this on Deliverance behind my deed in a free area by making stone wall enclosures without gates that new players or anyone just had to build their own gate to secure it. Then they could build anything they wanted inside of it. The mine was right next to this into the mountain and I had cobble roads running throughout so everything was accessible. A Guard Tower for help was next to this on my perimeter. Still, it required me being around a lot to make it known that these spots were available and answer some basic questions. Being that Deliverance was fairly new at the time and this was close to the starter Village of Green Dog, many players did settle there for a time to learn the game and then move on as they desired, some even to their own deeds. Eventually I diverted my attention elsewhere, new players went to new servers opened and I just deeded that whole area since there was now so much open land abandoned nearby. A been there done that kind of thing for me which I don't have much interest in doing in the future, other than on occasion with a newer player whose plight appeals to me on some basis. Both your and Brash's ideas are good ones though and hopefully will produce some positive results. Happy Trails =Ayes=

How about the GM staff work with Dev staff to find ways to make the actions you are threatening to ban people over more interesting and less time consuming so people don't feel compelled to go afk during them? Being that Wurm is such a low population game, less than 10,000 active players, choosing to ban players as your primary form of discipline for going afk is a horrible decision for your business model.

Bsb lets you click send without choosing anything since something is chosen by default... I hope this one will make you have to choose to send so we don't have to worry about a send button appearing on where we click while doing our daily activities Edit: It would also be nice if the window is easily distinguished from our already opened windows (maybe colourful and such) so we don't have to spend more time looking at windows than playing the game

I currently have 28.299 points above the meditation skill required for the level I am attempting to reach, so how's this supposed to work? It would be nice if there was an actual developer response regarding this, and not just player rumors/trolling that it might have worked for somebody. If it's not supposed to work at all, remove it from the game. If it is broken fix it. If it is supposed to be as rare as being struck by lightning, let us know. How hard is this? It is extremely frustrating to have something in the game that most everyone I know considers to be completely broken, and have no response from the developers.

Hello, Im DocStine, during 2013 I Was/and hopefully still am known by most veteran players. Shrimpiie, Fatboy(the real one), Emass, GreenHulk, And many from exodus to name a few. I am not as hardcore of a player as I used to be, I will only play about 1-2 hours a day on average, so I mostly bring a humorous but sometimes serious nature, and mostly a social aspect this time around. I Also intend on earning my premium through jobs and chores as i feel this adds a motivating goal to be social in Wurm. I was Also known to play on Affliction under the Horde banner for a while until I disappeared from Wurm entirely for these last 2 years. No skill is a horrible skill to me so any job or service you wish to add to your village/town/city I shall be honored to provide. ////{;;}\\\\ I also bring my pet spider, his name is "ohmygodthisthinghasverylargeteethandmademyheadgonumbwhenitbitme" Thank you "Doctor Stinekrig"

One of several examples of Wurm Wogic. Generally the "sharpening" action of a whetstone in smithing works fine for immersion when the item being imped has an edge. Unfortunately it breaks down on items and weapons with little, if any, edges to be sharpened. Can be quite a stretch to fit it into the immersion, So I suggest changing the terminology to something more along the lines of Honing or Filing. Even a blunt instrument can have stray bits of metal to file or hone off.

What keeps me attracted to a server is pretty much what people already said: History. The landscape that was touched by many people who lived there and is constantly changing with new ones coming, staying or leaving again. And of course it's the people. My partner and me started on Exodus and spent the first day running around, searching for a place to settle and, of course, constantly dying to critters. Never ever have I seen so much fenced areas with all kind of domastical champion animals Eventually, with a nice person making me three nails for my first cart, we found a place to settle in a a crater. There was already someone living there, but he didn't mind us living next to him. Two guard towers made it a wild and yet peaceful spot to start out. I still have screenshots from that time, full of nostalgia^^ Some weeks later we decided to join a village before making our own and were curiously looking through the forum to look for a german one - so we got in contact with the deed owner of the former Bergdorf on Deliverance. He was so kind to collect us at the north coast on Exodus and brought us over with a rowing boat. What an adventure that was for a young wurmling... crossing a server border xD It was a beautiful village, yet lots of trolls in the area. And we didn't stay long. Only a few days later we met an rl-friend who brought us to Independence. Originally it startet as a visit, but we decided to stay. Independence became a good home over the months, although we moved around quite a bit, founded and disbanded two deeds before finding a place to stay. We've met a lot of good people around there, most of them being people who have played Wurm for years, and a lot of nice places too. I remember that one resting tavern that I accidently stumbled over. It was sooo beautiful - not just a room and a bed, but with lots of furniture and rugs. Really comfortable. I have no clue if it still exists or who made it (or where it was located, to be honest)... and sadly I didn't make a screen of it. But the memory is a good one. Later I traveled back to Exodus to take a look at our old home just to see that our former neighbour had left or moved, walls still there but slowly decaying. I could still see some of the walls we build there too. It made me sad but it was also exciting to see the place taken back by nature. I also traveld over Deliverance a bit and saw quite some beautiful big deeds and the boat bridge... but although it's a larger server, Independence always felt like the most living server to me. I'm now actively playing in the epic cluster on Affliction, and it's an interesting contrast to Independence. First of all, it's Libila's domain, of course, so it takes some time to get accustumed to all the mycelium for a former freedomer Eventually, you learn the benefits of it... and come to see that without all the green nature it's still a very beautiful place. Since it has fewer players than other servers, the land might appear wild and untouched in many places, although there are already some ruins, either next to the starter town or out in some places so wild you would never expect them. It has been very exciting to see the land change... the places I used to hunt a while after the new affliction server went live look totally different by now. Huge grasslands have been covered by mycelium or changed to a huge forests. The people are paranoid and yet not so different to freedom if they come to know you. Although you should learn not to easily trust everyone you meet and build lots of walls to prevent someone from breaking into your deed.

Anyone new on exodus wishing to start a deed I would be more than happy to find them a good spot to start out at or drive them around till they see something they like, location is everything and I find new players all to often plunk the stake down in the first spot they discover to later learn resources they need are no where near there new deed. I consider resources #1 then appeal of the location for #2, no point in making a deed if they place is ugly or too far beyond terraforming to make it livable.

My frist day back I had 2 hell hounds, 3 wolves and 1 bear in my village. I haven't seen anything since. Plus, last night, I fell asleep playing (had the laptop on my lapdesk in bed.) and I woke up and was still alive. I was actually surprised since I was just standing in the woods.

Magic chests excist for a reason, however i don't see the harm in adding 5 more slots to PVE (and PVE only!)

Interesting graphs :3 the side by side analysis of servers is good, likewise the PPMT metric. As for marketing, we're looking into doing some basic, highly targeted marketing centred around our social media platforms. If it's successful, then I'd like to make a habit of keeping it ticking over regularly. We'll never do big bursts of ads - it wouldn't be right for the game - but regular, small and targeted ads could be very beneficial.

Thank you for the graphs Bdew! As for making a marketing push for Wurm, I really think this would be best done after some of the QoL improvements that we've seen in the news. At the very least, not until after the new permission system has been fully tested and rolled out. I think we all know how it feels to lose things in this game, and having a more robust system would help new players enjoy the game more. We're also making some good progress on the wiki, which also help with new player retention. As for the PvP/PvE debate... we are all one player base. We can travel freely between PvE and PvP, we can contribute to either, or both. We focus too much on what one side does to the other, and not enough on suggesting general improvements for everyone who plays this game. I've seen precious time and energy wasted by both sides of this debate, spent on nothing more than down-voting and arguing with the other side. Well this game needs both sides. Maybe if we stop burying the proverbial hatchet in one another, we can see about better changes for everyone.

Well i guess the only way to combat them is to just not answer the price checks and then they will stop asking, lol Edit: No offence to the new people trying to actually get a price check but using the search here on the forums is a much better way to learn the pricing of things.

I can somehow improve a wooden spindle with a log... In fact, the idea I can improve anything with a log... I can carry a felled tree, but not a crate...

I really would not have minded giving away a horse. I give 4 speeders to my new villagers. It was the fact I spent more time than I should have after I was tired and needed to be up for work; then having someone act patronizing and self entitled, that ticked me off and made me think, "You know what, they haven't appreciated any of my effort, I'm done being nice." I have to kiss ass at work all day why do I want to come home to enjoy a game and do it there too? As a side note, I have been told 50c for a 5 speed is quite cheap. As I've said, he can come by and pick up another horse and saddle for free, so why is this still an issue? Believe me, I have no intention of doing what someone asks without questioning it first ever again. Boy have I learned my lesson there!
