The launch of Epic's new Elevation map also coincided with a decision to give Wurm PVP a try using my PVE shipbuilding premium alt. A week has now passed and it's been an interesting experience so far. The key theme this week has been building up the deed. In many ways the experience is very similar to the PVE experience of building a new deed although one very important difference is that 30+ people are working with you on building up that deed at the same time. The threat of a possible raid by an opposing team seems to be a strong glue that binds individuals together. There are more examples of people helping each other then you typically see in PVE. Also of note is that buying gear with silver is almost impossible to do. Items are shared and freely given instead. The interesting thing about working together so closely is that this seems to result in a much more village/community game then you find on Freedom currently. Perhaps if PVE had mob invasions that required more focus on defenses or working together then something similar could be achieved. During the week a few small skirmishes happened along with a PVP raid from an opposing kingdom. When the raid occured fellow villagers scrambled to the alert, standing beside their comrades and contacting offline villagers when possible. Within 30 minutes the raid was over and the "loot" made available to the village. On a personal level this week has been about building the basic skills on my character. As I type this my body control has just reached 20.81, another .19 and I can ride a horse! Fighting skill is now at 1.07 so I am still some ways away from killing a spider or even a lowly wildcat on my own. It's been fun so far. It will be interesting to see what next week holds. ~Nappy

Hey everyone! We are now very close to the release of bridges which should be in around a week from now. Most of the development team have been focussing on them and making sure that all models are in place and bugs are fixed. They are on the test server in full so if you could join us there and help with final testing that would be greatly appreciated! There are also a few more map dumps released today, and an exciting new GM treasure hunt! Here's the news in full! Bridge Progress Bridges are still on track for release either next week or the week after. Most of the bugs we know about are ironed out now. All of the bridge models (including during construction phases) are now implemented and ready for release so that's one step forward. If you would like to give bridges a try and help us identify any remaining bugs, we urge you to spend some time on the test server. If you notice any bugs send in a support ticket on the test server and the developers will be notified and work on a fix. We are especially interested in bugs related to travelling across bridges on carts, and entering houses from a bridge. Game Master's Treasure Hunt In light of the recent success of their treasure hunt on the Exodus server, the GMs are organising another on Release - including some twists! There will be two "branches" to the treasure hunt, each with separate prizes and clues, starting 12 hours apart from each other. There are 16 prizes on offer for each branch. Half of the prizes are chests - each containing a set of fancy items, including a supreme/rare tool... but the other half of the prizes are signs, that will give players a mysterious key when examined. 72 hours after the start of the second branch, a chest will spawn at the server's starter town, Sloping Sands. Inside will be a significantly larger prize than what was on offer in the other chests - but only ONE of the keys given out will work. So you can claim an easy prize (if you can find it,) or pick the riskier option with a chance for something much bigger! The first branch will start at 2:30pm GMT on Saturday 25th April (tomorrow,) and the second will start at 2:30am GMT on Sunday 26th. Each player can only enter one branch and win one prize from each branch, and so there will be a large number of prizes to claim and starting at different times too. I thought about not telling you anything else to pay homage to the spirit of the treasure hunt, but you can find more details in the official thread here. Large Maul The art developers are pleased to reveal the texture for the new large maul model revealed last week. Please note this is still a work in progress but it is pretty close to finished now. New Map Dumps Carrying on from last week, I am very pleased to announce two more map dumps. You can now view the Celebration and Exodus maps. We have also updated the Elevation dump to have the correct map. You can also view the old Elevation map too! The full list of map dumps can be found in the official map dump thread. Rolf's Birthday And last but not least, it was Rolf's birthday yesterday! Grattis på födelsedagen! (And don't forget you can make cakes in Wurm!) That's all for this week, Happy Wurming!

    >Anyone else see a pattern of not releasing a product until it is in good shape and isn't going to break the game or create serious headaches that make people upset all weekend? Yes, I completely agree with you. Good on CC for releasing it when it's ready, and not before then just to satisfy demands.

The Oafish Maze is a puzzle* and maze experience situated on an 18x16 deed carved out of the local birch forest. Approximately 1.2k sprouts were used in its construction. A chest containing instructions lies just inside the maze's front gate, which is located on the deed's north side. There's a beginning and an end, but uncovering the maze's deepest secrets will necessitate exploring it fully and decoding an ancient message. The Oafish Maze is now open to explorers and should remain that way 24/7/365. There are certificates of completion to be retrieved at the end. (Please forum-PM me if you get that far.) While visiting The Oafish Maze, be sure to greet the resident Champion Unicorn, who wandered onto the property quite mysteriously during its construction. For days, he roamed the maze, eventually trampling down an area (now paved) where he lounges about and waits to be fed potatoes. *The puzzle is down for the moment. I may reopen it later. You can still go from the beginning to the end. Construction spanned from January - April, 2015 and is covered in this WIP album. I know this has been brought up before, but it bears repeating. Meditating and religion should be completely separate. This is one of the more fun meditating abilities and it's ruined by this requirement.

I've only used the hammer before the fantastic update until the ele reset where I got to see what it's like now. After grinding it a lot more, I'm still convinced that all it is is playing the lottery on hitting? Like you're the guy in the back wheezing trying to fling this thing around missing everything until suddenly you whack the guy in the face and you hit him so hard his mother couldn't identify him anymore All I could really think for epic is that I wouldn't really want to bother using it, just grind the skill so I can say I have it, and use a weapon that actually hits rather than one that I pray will hit before the guy dies, and not just "oh the other 3 people here hit him 2x each already, let me just whack the last 15% of his health off in one blow". So at the moment I feel the hammer is mostly a chaos issue where fights tend to stay up a bit longer with people running fast in drake/scale into doors and stuff, where a large hit actually matters (are people exaggerating dmg? people with 50-70 body str using it are only doing like 15~ dmg wounds to people with gone and 30~ without, maybe need more testing). The damage could be toned down and the swing timer really needs some love. Some don't like my idea of an aoe usage, but if you tone the dmg down and then clicking use does a 5-10 dmg wound to enemy in a 3x3, using a charge and with a 2(?) minute cooldown like pillar spells is that really bad? Less op dmg wise than they are now Haven't used the sword much, feels pretty much like a huge axe with a fancy skin? Seems fine to me

Before selling it (if you ever do sell it), be sure to organize a photo op. session where folks can come and have their picture taken with this weapon. Charge folks like 1s each. Or maybe even have a day where you'll Spar anyone with it. Them being totally unarmed and no armour on. Folks would pay good money to be stabbed with that thing.

once again, people don't understand/outright downplaying the snowball effect, namely this poster here. To those who don't understand, no matter the skill level or effort of the other group, or the gear, if you have 4x the numbers as everyone else you can just sit there and do nothing and the artifacts will drop in your lap. (you could quite literally do this with naked 20fs alts with noobie shortswords.) Thats a game design error that encourages snowballing.

I like how this is evolving. It seems we will be able to make artifacts more interesting and balanced. The way I read it up until now: Artifacts shouldn't just periodically respawn in the ground Could use some improvements as to how charging works possibly add a max time limit Shouldn't be saved when dying or teleporting Needs some damage tweaks - such as with crits and damage stacking Add some more interesting functionality When it comes to them being put into the ground it must add something I think and locating them seems to be too annoying. Maybe making it possible to locate items specifically would make it less unpopular? Or we could put them in a treasure chest (maybe with a tough lock) if that's more desirable. Or some other solution.

Hey everybody! So I've got my Tosiek priest stationed in Deliverance and am willing to convert you to the faith or make you a priest, or help you set up your altars. I won't charge you for conversion if you come to my place, or if it isn't far away, however I'd ask a small fee for travelling depending on the distance when having to travel to you! Just pass me a PM for more info or requests. Thank you very much! EDIT: Before being able to be converted to Tosiek, you need to... ... have -1 alignment. ... have at least 1.5 body. ... have waited at least 7 days after leaving your old religion.

if this happens, then the limit on making locks should be capped at your skill level then. 99lock smithing = 99 ql locks max. 50 lock smithing = max ql 50. and lets take it a step further, and also only allow you to place that ql lock based on ur skill level. so you cant place a 99ql lock if you only have 50 lock smithing. need a lock smith to place those pesky locks. makes sense to me. +1 to the idea with my input. -1 if not.

At the end of each part of the hunt there are 8 chests that will open immediately, and 8 keys. There are 17 total prizes. 16 in chests that can be gained immediately (8 per hunt). and 1 that will be opened by one of the keys. Opening a chest will end the hunt for you. Taking a key will end the hunt for you. Players have to make a choice, a reward immediately, or a chance at a prize in the final chest that won't be accessible for a couple of days. There are 32 potential players that will have something at the end of the hunts (16 from each) 16 will have a guaranteed prize, and 16 will have a chance at a larger prize. Just to be completely clear, no-one has any idea which key opens the final chest. I had enki make me 16 identical locks/keys. I know which lock is on the chest, because it was marked, but i made sure the key wasn't. If not all of the keys are claimed, there is a chance that no-one would get the grand prize. I don't even know which hunt the winning key is at the end of. This hunt got a bit out of hand actually, lol. I was trying to make it more interesting by having 2 hunts at different times to spread the fun of solving new riddles, but halfway through i came up with the keys and the final chest idea and added it, which has made it a bit confusing to be honest. The next one will probably be less complicated again.

BIG BLOODY BUMP.. Fix this come one... im fighting a venerable troll and i get a lagg spike of 30 seconds pluss and end up with 20% health left.. How bloody hard can it be to fix a lagg issue? How long have we have to wait in silence knowing that you guys still havent got us an update. How much players are paying for a game and still dont give us information about this? I dont care about what needs to be changed about atrifacts.. Get ur problems FIXED first then change things.

Very simple, just post something crazy or funny (crazily funny?) that once happened to you in Wurm online. I will start. It was nearly a year ago, it happened a few days after i returned to playing after a few months of inactivity. I had no home and nothing to my name except a couple of yellow potions and a long sword and some spare change. I needed iron one day to build my house so i ended up surveying an enclosed location around the only iron mine that i remember, it wasn't deeded anymore but it did have fences and a gatehouse. I noticed that it was unusually empty than i remember when i checked it the day i returned, there was barely anything except for a forge next to the mine entrance and some empty BSBs. Since the gatehouse was unlocked i just assumed the owners moved on and took liberty going in and mining some iron, i used to forge and made myself some nails, but to my surprise just as i was about to leave, the two 'owners' got back (i heard the gatehouse door open), i took a peek and sure enough, they were there on their wagon and blocking the only exit out.. I freaked out and quickly snuffed the forge and hid every trace that i left, i couldn't let them find me because i was worried about being mistaken for a thief or whatnot, they didn't see me but they started chatting me up on local as i could see them coming my way, so i hid graphically 'inside' the forge but as i was still showing up in graphic a little bit, i used one of my yellow potions and (luckily) turned into a pile of items graphic image, which is significantly smaller in size than the human model. Sure enough they passed right by me several times as they went in and out of the mine, i didn't want to log off because i was worried they may lock the gatehouse and pretty much lock me up inside, so i waited the next time they went inside the mine, and made a run for the exit, basically a pile of items running as fast as it can right out the door. I felt like Snake from Metal Gear for the rest of the day Side note : i found out they were indeed moving out and they were just loading all their left BSBs and they later even took the actual forge that i hid inside, which thankfully i cleared just a few minutes from them loading it up and mosey-ing out town.

One time I had a bear targeted at the white light and then got pulled into an emergency meeting at work. Because I had the bear targeted some no-name scrub from JK who was there to priest killed me and I didn't autodefend. There was then a panic'd race of MR trying to track him to get my gear back and JK trying to get to him to protect/fight us. Luckily he was such a noob that he somehow managed to run to the doorstep of my deed where we killed him. RIP me They still don't let me live it down

Orb: Unless being the loneliest terrorist in town is your gig, this thing is worthless. The damage is pretty unreliable (though, nice when it does hit), but not worth a 50% chance of losing a fighter, and possibly their gear and the orb itself, every time you use it. Currently this is gathering dust, even though we used to carry it everywhere. RIP hot potato. THIS IS ME GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEEEEEE

So... willy waving and cat fighting aside, I'll add in my overview of the artifacts, in regards to the original question posed by Rolf; The actual difficulty in holding the artifacts depends purely on whether or not the holders use them or keep them locked up. In the latter case, ofcourse, they can be kept near on indefinitely. The enemy must either manage a raid on a stupidly large, well defended deed (which is less viable simply through the fact that wurm crashes when local numbers get high and when templars swarm), or must recharge starve the holders. If the artifacts are being used, they are more viable to obtain, at least for certain the weapons, which have very high appeal in pvp - in this, I think we can all agree. The key is to really encourage using them in pvp. There is little reason to bother with the crown, rod, mouth, ear, eye or charm. The finger is great, in some situations. Vyn artis: Ear: I personally really like the ear; I've gathered hundreds of gems from it for our priests to use - the going off-deed to use it is just a minor frustration that solves nothing. Though, I tend to carry it and use it constantly (I've noted greater success with it when in enemy influence [several 99+ql gems gained whilst actually fighting]). But it doesn't bring anything to pvp, so there is no drive for me to take it to help there. Eye: instant cast of locate soul and locate artifact (though it has a disproportionately large chance of locating itself I feel) can be useful, but at once an hour, you will most likely not bother and just use priests as you'll likely have to do multiple casts to break through nolo jewelery. Completely useless if the enemy is nolo casted. -- As a note, the eye also casts nolocate on vynora followers. Mouth: 1 hour of SB and a full refresh every 12 hours. The refresh could be useful, but really, it's just a sleep bonus provider. Nice, but nothing spectacular and again, no reason to really take it off deed. Fo artis: Charm: Great if you have someone needing to ride a hell horse who doesn't have the taming. Aaand that's it. So sure, some reason to use it, but once you get the taming skill, it's of less use. Rod: AKA, dumbbell of dumbness. It weighs 5kg, adds a 10% pvp damage bonus, and it's use is forest giant strength cast - if you're a fo follower. Else, it casts phantasms on you. Extra damage is always nice, but only likely to make the difference between kill and escape on hops, and I personally can't be bothered with the extra weight to carry it. Finger: Fantastic item, but only likely to change the course of a land fight if the right person is carrying it. It doesn't help anyone who isn't being targetted. On boats however, it works a treat, as you can share through the boat hold. We usually have this out with us for pvp anyway. Mag: Sword: Big and stabby, huge damage, much burn, wow. Needless to say, it's worth using, and 2h sword skill is easy to raise. We usually have someone playing with it. Hammer: My fav, I usually run around with it if it's available when I join for pvp. Damage is lower than the sword and scepter, but the LT is great for countering the other artifacts or even regular 2h weapons. Having it's own skill is an oddity however, and does draw this down behind the other two weapons somewhat - also the fact that damage mod on it is often wasted on tiny wounds, where the sword and scepter make full use of their damage enchants always. Needless to say, it gets used. Crown: If you're not fond of your face and don't mind being the birthday boy at the local burger king, it's great. Sure, 1CR isn't much, but it's something. The dominate use might be handy if the crown was on a non-priest, but really, it's nothing special. Would be more useful if it simply acted as a 90ql glimmer helm with the CR bonus, even without an active. We use it sometimes, but to be honest, the face-shots are not worth the risk for the gains. Lib Artis: Scepter: Easily the best of the 3 weapon artis - the damage is comparable to the sword, but has the advantage of being 1h. We use it a lot. Scale: Awesome shield, plays great dubstep if that's your thing, and zombies are always fun. We use it a lot too. Side note: The scale and crown untaming your current pet whenever you equip and unequip it sucks, and is another major drawback to those. This effect (as stated by the lovely orange text you get) is only supposed to happen when it's dropped. Now, on paper, you're only likely to see the 3 weapons, the scale and the finger outside of deeds and available as loot in pvp (though in practice, we often have most of the others too). This is very bad for having them available to change hands, and is in my opinion, one of the core changes that needs addressed. Give us reasons to have them out and about - not specifically in actual combat, but as utilities. Simple things like making the eye a guaranteed locate, regardless of nolocate, would vastly increase the value of that arti. As has been stated a lot, they are unique items, and unique (and useful!) functions should define them, and give them reason to be used. Any artifact that can just be used on deed (or just off deed), is rarely going to change hands without a great deal of luck or sheer time sitting idle at the altars.

Orb of Doom -- Good, but honestly has such bad indication when used. When you right click use, you have no 30 second timer until it explodes, you don't have any clue if it backfires (doesn't say), it's honestly very confusing to use unless you have used it before and have practice. It should show a timer bar, and maybe a bit less damage dealt, like 25%. Crown of Might - Only gives like 1 CR to everyone in same kingdom around the person wearing it, but really 1 CR is nothing. I don't know if everyone understands the CR calculations, but 1 CR isn't not overwhelmingly amount of a variable to really change much of a fight. Any buff is an advantage I suppose, but really it should be at least 2 CR. The use of the crown that 'dominates' creatures is a bit useless. It was only good to do on dragons, but that's no longer allowed. Rod of Beguilingigngling (or whatever) - Gives 10% bonus damage if held in hand. Really, 10%? I don't know if you realize but 10% of 10 is 1. So if you hit someone for 10 damage, if you had the Rod you'd of only done an extra 1 damage being 11 damage. That's really not worth it. Of all the artifacts this is the worse. Should bump it to 25% or change the use completely. Scale of Libila - Good. Warhammer of Mag - Good. Sceptre of Ascension - Good, the use or whatever I thought was blowing up WL, seems silly. Sword of Magranon - Good. Ear of Vynora - Good, but I don't understand why you have to be off deed to use it? You just walk outside, use it, and bring it back in. What's the point? Eye of Vynora - IMO the locate artifact ability use it has it pretty stupid. You can just do it easily with priests, and I feel such a rare item should offer something that priests can't do. Perhaps it can detail more information when it locates an artifact like the sense of power it has, and last time used?

With the addition of more borders, it would be wise to implement a no-crossing when enemies are in local mechanic as that is bound to be abused like it is on Epic, in different ways, but both achieving the same thing.

No one's ever conclusively proven (with actual data) that any of these things impact casts. I think that might be part of the problem. We don't know what works, and there's no official word (that I'm aware of)? For all we know, we're grinding all kinds of totally irrelevant things on our priests. As for the fear of higher end stuff being for sale for cheaper... the only people who fear that are the tiny minority with uber priests. I would imagine the majority of the playerbase and the game would benefit if moderately skilled priests had some value. I would be might be tempted to re-prem mine, for example. As things stand, when the price of a (nearly useless) priest alt rose from 5 to 8 euros, I dropped her.

I don't think this is the case at all. You may or may not have intended it, but that's a very biased viewpoint. MR seems to have a ton more players than JK, mainly lower level 'pawn' type characters recruited from Freedom who join just because it's the winning side. And I don't mean pawn in any negative sense of the word. JK has fewer, better skilled players. Plus more experienced veterans. Most of the reasons I see as to why things are stagnant is because that's exactly the way MR wants it to be. This will sound incredibly typical, but the current MR and its administration is the worst enemy I've ever had the displeasure of fighting in this game. I'm not trying to insult any particular MR guy or anything, some guys in MR don't seem so bad. But their whole style of fighting is just horrible. They're the sort of enemy who'd rather avoid a fun pvp filled raid in favour of a 30-40 raid force raid in which the defensive side has no hope of getting any pvp or defending and MR just wipes the town off the map. JK never really favoured this tactic at the peak of it's power, why get rid of your enemy outright when it's more fun to let them regrow and raid them again? Or like the way MR pick on BLers, (black lighters in general, not just BL for Black Legion) because they see them as easy kills, but heaven forbid should a BL guy kill an MR and get good loot off them, they'll come back with 20-30 people and grief the crap out of them, as if they're trying to teach them some sort of lesson? Just looks like extreme butthurt, it's better to be humble to a loss than to be arrogant. Not just that ofcourse, the raids that last several days, Ebony Veil for example. Their whole kick kill thing and how they start a smear campaign of anyone who defects from MR to JK. That Naio MR guy pretending to be a newbie wanting to join JK on Pedro then once being accepted, stealing a load of stuff and taking it with him to MR. Logs of Naio on Pedro bragging about it: [09:31:21] <Pedro> so long and thanks for all the fish [09:31:54] <Riceri> moving? [09:32:07] <Pedro> going going gone [09:32:29] <Sharkin> Elaborate! [09:33:28] <Pedro> pro tip: if a character that has access to all of kyara leaves the server, you might want to change some of the permissions [09:33:55] <Greyhound> Ok, so you been in Kyara stealing stuff? [09:34:21] <Kunibert> Pedro that we always do but we didn't know XXX was selling pdro [09:34:30] <Pedro> only 2 carts full and a corbita's worth [09:34:35] <Kunibert> until you get over [09:34:48] <Greyhound> Hope you have fun with what you stole Nadroj outright stealing the Candee account. Their whole silly elections for chei thing, they actually take it seriously and try to slander other nominee's names, like the accusations against Nadroj of logging in old forum accounts and voting for himself or something. It's just messed up, I'm not trying to say JK is perfect in any way at all, cause it isn't. But when you have MR on chaos, the bar isn't set very high at all. Why would you enjoy fighting an enemy like that? All enemies I've fought before them, sure there was the usual animosity, but I always felt like they were the kinda enemies that'd play a game of football in no-mans land on xmas day with you. Current MR however, I'd just be expecting them to replace the football with a bomb or something. I've digressed massively, my main point is MR seem so dead set on mechanics being ingame that ensure an ultimate win for them. Like having artifact users stacked with tons of bonuses on them to ensure winning through imbalance, loving SoTG, loving not having to chain towers and being able to just plop one next to an enemies deed and cut out all the work of pushing your influence there through hard work. And then when anyone tries to change things to improve the game you do your best to try and discredit them in the hopes Rolf or any devs will overlook it and their voice be drowned out. This may seem all pretty biased, but it's how I've felt ever since the fall of LO and I saw it was just the newer MR left. LO were a much better enemy to have than this current generation, because they didn't take the game and winning so damn seriously, having fun was the more important part.

The OP gives me an awesome feeling of nostalgia of the first time I tried out Epic. Anyone even slightly curious about the 'other' side of Wurm should absolutely hop onto Epic for a weekend and give it a bash. I've found I prefer the longer game of Chaos, but it's much easier to get a quick start off in Epic and feel like you can contribute sooner.

Have RoD give 5 hours of SB as well as spread myc. Holy crop remove myc in Fo domain. And on the topic of removing altars/building out own, would like to comment on how long it takes for a WL altar to remove myc, I built WL altars around myc areas in JK land about 3 months before ele went down, that area still had not reverted to grass lands before the server shut down.

    1. MR can be beaten. Their ###### mechanics that they rely upon cannot (see: Tyre). Then, they go email Rolf to get themselves buffed by giving him incorrect information because their mechanics could not save them. 2. This isn't Chaos only. It affects Epic, Chaos, and Challenge. Try again.

Somehow I feel like this is an epic glitch. My friend commanding a cart just that the cart is bugged out for me, and I can only see her being pulled by the two horses, halfway stuck in the ground.

You'll eventually notice that the different subcultures on Epic are very similar to that of the other servers. There are those that have the ability to spend loads of time grinding lots of skill. There are those that will hardcore grind on weekends. There are the casual players. There are builders and fighters. There are griefers and landhogs, hoarders and hermits. Then there are the vast majority of players that will do a combination of all of these, if granted enough time. Over time, you'll make friends with plenty of people, and you might even hate a few. You'll watch friends become enemies, and enemies become friends. From time to time you'll see the entire kingdom show up for events and mega projects, and you'll also see some ridiculous projects built by lone players. Hell, there might even be a couple times a kingdom will team up with another to enjoy the game. You'll have as much fun fighting and winning as you will fighting and dying, if you can keep the proper attitude. Just remember to have fun.
