With the always lowering number of people on epic, something must be done to bring people back to our cluster. Many have seen how a new server attracts many players, so that is what i'm suggesting. Currently, there are 4 different servers on the Epic cluster. My suggestion is to fully wipe all 4 servers, then instead of 4, put in their place, just 1. Have 1 large server with 4 continents on it, they would still be arranged like they are now, with a middle continent and 3 surrounding ones for each original kingdom. The middle continent would be 12x12 and each outer laying continent would be 2x2. Reasons for this: Currently, the Elevation server is so small that within a matter of minutes, you can be anywhere on the server, this results in PvP ending up almost always with each side gathering massive reinforcements, which reduces the number of smaller fights. Most the maps have been devastated by Valrei events, making several areas unusable. Home servers have always been an issue with epic. Epic was supposed to be a PvP server, but we still have many players who live on home servers just for the curve and increased skill gain, by making them 2x2, it will reduce any room carebears have to live, and force most people to play on the large server. This will immediately increase the number of players on server that you can fight against. Finally, with said new server, change Valrei so it does not make trenches, pillars, craters, etc all over the server, as it only screws the server. Maybe fixing the wand of the seas so ti actually makes an island instead of a big ass hole in the ground So to recap, one server with 4 islands, main one is 12x12 and three around it like the old home servers, but each would be only 2x2. I belive with a new server with a lot of land to explore would bring more people to Epic, and possibly bring back old players Any other ideas would be good to hear about something like this. Note i'm only suggesting a server reset, not a skill reset.

You can't force people to pvp, while I have always disliked homes servers and wish they didn't exist those players won't suddenly be forced anywhere except out the door thus lowering epics numbers further. The Valrei events have been pretty much reduced to nothing it's the rod and wand that should be removed -1

What do you think about having a pve survival server kind of like challenge but more survival oriented? The way wurm pve is now is it easy to feed and care for yourself but what if they changed that making it so it was difficult. Maybe add in sickness and make it so you have to really strive to just get by let alone make shelters. Lets put more survival into wurm with a survival server. Feel free to expand on the concept as it is really raw but i think it might be fun.

we talked about it in Nov in this thread. I suggested a model with villages fighting back a troll/goblin filled, rapidly encroaching forest. Something where you live in a clearing and have to actively push out against an encroaching wilderness, deal with rampaging troll swarms killing your livestock, harsh climate including growing seasons and blights, starvation, limited trade and travel etc. Players should more or less be forced to cluster together for safety and mutual dependence. Solo play should be extremely difficult and very limited in scope (roving hunter or lumberjack on the fringes, no mountaintop hermit palaces with 2000 tile fields) I forgot to mention in that thread that I'd want to go back to using minimum distance between villages (several hundred tiles) but also rework villages so people can feel comfortable getting in close to each other for protection without the current deed mechanics getting in the way. Something like the higher tier purely democratic (all members) or republican (all members with land or all members of a certain rank) "village" pushing perimeter, limiting decay and having members, but tile ownership being subordinate "writs" so you might own and control only the land your house is on and a field outside town. All these changes would be to make villages more organic and user friendly but also to encourage people that don't know or trust each other to come together gracefully with a sense of security and without any one player "owning" the village. I'd love to sit down with a few people and hammer out an actual model of what a Wurm "real" PvE server would be like.

dont see many playing it. it's already too hard in the beginning, too easy in the end. I'd rather see something like Wurm Singleplayer, where you can modify everything as you like and then even do survival kind of stuff to suit you the best.

Well, just finished a few days of house work. This is from my lake deed near Greymead, Xanadu. The pics are dark, but I wanted the lighting glow captured. Tons of work to do. Landscaping, finish the stone slab floors on the main level (excuse the odd paving there now), decorate, more creative lighting, etc. I hope you like it. It is my guest house, so anyone is welcome to come visit and spend the night. The photo album here: http://s926.photobucket.com/user/sirvink/library/Darq%20Shadow

All of you going "oh gee not one of these topics again" should try thinking about that for a bit. Why do these topics keep popping up? - Because it's never fixed. Get Rolf to fix it and you won't see these threads as often.

I just had a few questions about understand the curve. I'd assume anything which has an effective skill has a curve, but how well does it work? Feel free to PM me any reply's you don't wish to share to the public, other wise maybe this thread can help people wishing to know the same things who happen to stumble upon it. Ok! Question 1: Animal Taming - According to the Wikipedia say Hell Horses are tamable at 70 Animal Taming. Will Effective 70 work? Or do you require natural skill of 70? I've been trying to tame something which should be in my current effective skill rate, and fail constantly! Is that just due to the difficulty of the tame? Or due to not having natural taming at said level? Question 2: Animal Husbandry - Is it possible to achieve a 5 speed horse with Effective 50 Animal Husbandry? Or do you require a natural skill of 50 Animal Husbandry as you do on Freedom? My effective Animal Husbandry is nearing 50 now, and I'd hate to mess up by skilling natural to 50 then placing my effective around 70. Everything else I use seems to follow the effective skill. Mining, Cooking, Blacksmithing, Masonry, etc. Question 3: Fighting - During the grind from 50 - 70 Fighting what do you generally fight for the best skill gains? I've personally discovered that Hell Hounds are amazing skill ticks! Then Crocodiles, Scorpions, and any Champion monsters provide the best skill ticks. Question 4: PvP - As a player who spent her entire Wurm life on Freedom until a month ago.. Is there any tips/tricks you wish to pass on surviving PvP and/or succeeding at it? I've watched YouTube videos to learn some of the basics, but this is more for the veteran or longer played players who just wish to share some of their knowledge they have learned through the years. Thank you for taking the time to read this and share your knowledge, I look forward to reading any reply's that may be posted/PM'd

    4. Combat > Join an established group > Kill the horse first, not the player > Know when to disengage, know your strengths and weaknesses, don't overextend > When under archery fire, keep the shooter on the left side of your screen; adjust until your combat tab gets spammed with "You instinctively block an arrow with your shield."; 50 shield skill (subskill for specific shield) is enough for this, although ideally you want as high as possible > Don't stand on AoE spells from your enemies > Don't talk in local > Aiming: lower center/left/right to slow the enemy (hitting the crotch is like a head shot), upper center for more damage (head/neck shot), lower right/left to stack wounds (generally a bad idea, but useful to know) > Don't do anything mid-swing (shield bash, focus, special move, aim, etc.) > You are more accurate when not moving - attempt to take advantage of this when possible (count down and stop before swing); this is not always feasible > Face your target > Don't run out of stamina - if on foot/boat, you will die because you can't block > Your ability to negate damage is your first line of defense, not your ability to reduce > Archery is mainly used on horses - you will usually glance if you shoot a player with his shield facing you, so it's usually only used against player while on boats (especially captain, since he is constantly draining stamina) > Knowledge of your enemy is key - know the accounts, know who is leading, know who will be the first to run and why/when they will do so, etc. - you don't need to kill them all if you can force them to stop fighting you (killing them is still more fun of course); > If you are raided, let allies know, bring a cart/wagon full of bricks to the structures being attacks and repair; AoEs can go through non-house walls and interrupt repairs; keep hitched creatures and other animals safe behind gates/doors; be careful and don't get hit by catapults (they hurt); you don't have to fight if you can outrepair the damage and prevent a breach of the structure surrounding the deed > copy-paste local tabs to allies - right click > copy entire tab, then in chat ctrl-v > check your nolo ring often, rename with cast and date at every check > don't talk over leaders, but speak up when something is important > just learn as you go Preparation > You need shield skill > starting from 1, use a 40ql shield of your choice (medium wooden is bugged and doesn't block properly, medium metal skill gain is bugged and slower than normal); do not improve the shield, just keep repairing - it will eventually get to 1ql, which is good for gains > CoC/BotD and sleep bonus are great for this > stand in front of a horse and just take hits in defensive mode - use a wild horse, not bred (bred messed up bashing skill) > when gain slows down, switch to normal; when gain slows again, switch to aggressive > shield bash at every given opportunity - the first 5 points suck the most, after that you can get some hits, 10 is where it gets easier > train in a large pen or open area with another animal out of melee range; target that animal while in combat with the training horse; alternately, put a chain barding on the horse > at higher levels (70+) you will get better gains from stronger mobs, assuming you can withstand the hits that aren't blocked > you need weapon skill as well - you should start with a one-handed weapon to go with your shield (usually longsword to start), then work on others (common choices are large axe, medium maul, huge axe, two-handed sword) > when hunting, kill everything > having smithing skills is great - you can make your own gear (and imp those shields - shield damage is ridiculous) > grind meditation, hate path for PvP until 60 skill, then switch to insanity and get level 11 > for archery, get all bows to 20 on a target (can finish to 40 overall on a target if you want), then shoot mobs (or alts, but that's always been shady) - good mobs to shoot are spiders, lava spiders, trolls, anything weaker than a bear (not bison, they suck); bears and unicorns are okay, but they glance somewhat often > for any kind of archery, use as high ql bow as you can get with nimbleness and CoC, bloodthirst if possible, 40ql war arrows (higher ql and enchanted are good for PvP but not required) with a high ql bow string > for weapon skill, life transfer and rotting touch are best, venom and bloodthirst suck, flaming aura and frostbrand decrease skill gained per mob because additional damage damage doesn't give skill, mind stealer is a great bonus, CoC increases gains, HD works on humanoid mobs > for PvP, weapons should have nimbleness, human's demise (NEVER use any other demise except dragon's), flaming aura/frost brand or life transfer, mind stealer is a plus here too (killing horses/hell horses/pets) > if possible, put web armor on your helm, chest, and legs, and AoSP on everything else - this makes it nearly impossible for someone to avoid taking both effects at some point when you are targetted (you can put WA on the gauntlets to increase chance of slowing opponent) > everyone dies, everyone loses - accept it and you will be fine

For WL, as low as 40-45 can start taming hell horses (age likely matters a lot). 50 is a start I'd recommend, but realistically you want 70 to get high tame faster. I have 82 actual taming and gave up getting 90 because taming hell horses was still so stupidly random. Taming them high is pretty crucial, or you'll risk them untaming at very unfortunate times (such as Namekat standing on the tile a wand of seas is planted on as his hh untames) 50 animal husbandry is required if you start from scratch yourself. If you are given horses with 5 traits already, not so much. Tbh when grinding fs, just kill everything, because even those seemingly useless mountain lions are still worth a fair bit for grinding weaponskill and a little bit of shield skill. If you grind purely for fs, you'll end up with 70fs and like 40-50 weaponskill, so you're not really done grinding at all yet.

-1 As pretty evident from the Affliction reset, it only brings a high pop for like a few weeks at best. It was 60-80+ easy at the start, but didn't take long to dwindle down to 10-30 at most. Same thing for Challenge really, 250+ at start, and it has 29 on as I make this post I do feel that the wand/rods do need to be removed from the reward pool, all we're doing is purposely wrecking hota now. MR used their rod first in an area that nobody really went, it didn't really affect much. Then a second rod was used by a bler in middle of steppe, it hasn't really changed much. Then jk used a wand near bl side to grief them, then jk used a wand near mr side, then mr used a wand on jk side in retaliation. It's pretty much getting dumber each time. I'd actually love for the items to be removed from rewards, and at the very least, the 3 wand holes made in the steppe manually fixed which would take dev time obviously. They just serve entirely zero purpose, and probably aren't even intended to make the holes to begin with. The rods are intended to make volcanos, and they spawn boulders of adamantine at least. But I'd be fine with those disabled/reverted as well.

Oke lets be honest here olmust everyone on the outer borders (like exodus) are all getting pretty empty and with pretty i mean i have more horses on my deed the people on exo this namely because i think that exo is too far away from the other servers.... So a small continental shift like putting xanadu in the middle and the other servers around it would be an ideal solution to more more servers running empty because everyone is moving to more central bigger servers like xanadu

Changes to mechanics need to be listed, I can get keeping " changed code XYZ to enable us to sniff out local hackers" but changes like " weapon X miss rate increased" and "hellhounds made stronger" need to be listed. I haven't seen much in the way of patch notes lately, prior to anything regarding challenge. Not only would it make Rolf and code club actually look professional, but it would help put rumors about X being changed to rest if what was changed would be listed.

Make a new type of bulk storage bin that can have multiple entries of the same type of item at different qualities. For example, lumps put inside the bin will be rounded to the nearest integer. I"m not sure if we should to always round down or use true rounding. Is it a problem is folks have 99 iron lump bulk line items in a bin(each line item can have many lumps just like current line items in a bin)? I recognize this would add additional bulk item entries to database but what I don't' know is when additional items become a problem. People will just build more bins to circumvent any limits that are put on it. And trying to put limits on bins construction so players can't overcome some other limit is...well....it just seems like a west of development time (referring to the limits on limits game) that is. Why? In the 90's mining a bin's quality averaging is to the point where I prefer to use my magic chest to store high ql lumps. This idea could be extended to ql's sorted in 10's. I keep about 10 bulk bins just so my ql's don't get average. These bins are no where near full. If many players are also keeping bins for different qualities then letting store multiples of the same item, for example 10 of (1-10, 11-20 ... 90-99) bulk plank items instead of one, isn't going to add as many new items as one might think. Add a new container or a way to toggle how existent bsb store items. And that is toggle between an overall average(what we currently have), round and average in 10's, or even round and average in 1's. A good concrete and visual analogy here would be separators placed in a box.

I'm getting the server lag quite a bit.. and It can't be me, or entirely. I'l have 2 characters logged into the same server at the same time. One function perfectly normal while the other lags to hell and back. Relogging or logging one off doesn't fix the issue... for me it's almost directly related to which character I'm on. Nomad lags crazy, but none of my alts have the issue... ever. Really seems to be something on their end, if it was my end then all my toons would be lagging.

The Militia Leader and the Nogump Given here be an account of the events day of the Ant in week 2 of the starfall of the Digging in the year of 1022. “Yo new guy, go get the militia captain!†The other men seemed to be laughing and several were exchanging bets. I looked doubtfully down the lane. The long road that went past a rather ragged set of archery targets was dubious at best and had a rather grisly deco going for it. The severed heads were staked on pikes, and accompanied by signs. Most said “Don’t touch the grape bushes.†Or they warned: “This is what happens when you steal grapes.†This particular sign had a severed hand dangling by a rusty chain. I gulped and looked past the signs to endless fields of plump, juicy looking grapes that seemed to be slowly swallowing the capital, fighting the local forest and town gardens for every inch of land. Very few of the citizens living there seemed to be in a hurry to try to fight the infestation though. Looking back at my comrades they shook their heads violently and pointed down towards the ramshackle and run down looking house at the end of the road. It had a faded wooden sign on it declaring it to be “Paw’s Brew: Est. 1012â€. From inside I could smell the vapors of cooking maple syrup and the lyrics of a baudy bar song being sung loudly and horribly out of tune. “Magranon’s beard and Libilia’s tears!†“The best beer leaves no fear!†“Cried the sol-dier! One round more and evermore!†Walking carefully up, picking my way with the greatest delicacy through overhanging grape bushes I rapped on the door. The response was a flung open door, and I tripped over my feet and sprawled over backwards as a foul smell of ground grapes and sticky, burnt maple syrup wafted out. A hulk of a man with a scraggly brown beard peered down at me brandishing a bucket. I looked up at him. He scowled daggers at me. “Can’t ya see I’m brewin boy!†Then he looked at my gear and then down the lane at the rest of the militia. “Ah, yea I supposed I did say to stop by today. Guess it be huntin day. Gotta keep the local woods clean of the drake spirits and such.†The door slammed back shut and I heard an almighty clatter of pots, pans, assorted bangs and splashes. At one point a disgruntled chicken flew from out of one of the upper story windows. The sounds of a doused fire, was shortly followed by the door being flung open again and the scraggly bearded man was leading a just as disheveled pony outside. The pony blinked a few times and looked around as if it wasn't used to being outdoors, or anywhere but its accustomed stable for that matter. The rider promptly mounted up and clanked in his ill-fitting and battered looking plate armor. “Well?!†Came the hollow voice from inside the helmet. I pointed at the rest of the Militia and he nudged his pony forward, it seemed to take the command as more a suggestion then an order and trotted meekly forward towards the rest. Running along behind him to keep up my own horse was waiting for me being held by militia members that were now laughing and exchanging coppers, winnings as it appeared. “This is our leader?†I asked one of the riders as we slowly trotted as a small, rag tag group out of the encircling fences and towers of the capital city. My partner just shrugged and we followed in silence until we got to the edge of the great forest surrounding the capital, and our leader called a halt. We listened to the distant sounds of battle deep in the forest. Somewhere a Gorilla was dying. This was quite typical. The constant invasion of fell creatures from the moon of the gods was a bane on the land. Typically though you stayed out of the way of what it spawned. Today however it seemed we wouldn't be running from the sound but going to investigate. Cricking his neck the leader slung a shield from his back and pulled a glowing sword out of his tattered scabbard and charged forward. The rest of us haphazardly tagged along with a total lack of enthusiasm as well as a great appreciation for our own hides and common sense. If he wanted to die first, I supposed it could do no harm to let him lead us. It wasn’t an eagle spirit attacking the Gorillia, by the holy three it was a Nogump! All of us skidded to a halt abruptly as the warrior charged forward and was promptly lifted in the air, horse and all and tossed down a nearby hill in a clatter of flying armor and curses. It was like watching a group of cave bugs scatter before the cleaners, as the huge monster pounded forward and swatted his ham fists and giant club at another militia member squashing him flat in a single blow. I was flung from my horse and thrown to the ground as my horse panicked and bucked me free. The huge creature loomed over me and prepared to strike. I rolled to the side and tried to craw away when a nearby tower guard that had been alerted to the violence pushed me aside and took the blow on his shield. Tower guards, being magical spawn of the land weren't known for being very bright. I however had the good sense to take off running. I was brought up short by a massive hand grabbing my collar and spinning me around. The leader was standing up, dusting himself off and holding up a small golden statue as he yanked on the ratty ear of something he had found in the ditch the Nogump had flung him. The gaping fangs of a massive mountain troll leered stupidly up at me before the leader gave it a kick in the rear and pointed it at the nogump where it promptly ran forward under some sort of spell. “Git ur butt back in there, we can’t outrun it, we have to kill it!†The leader screamed at me and darted forward, dragging me along. Throwing me to the side he pulled up his shield and started hacking away at the massive creature along with tower guard and troll. It didn't take long for the creature to smash the guard flat. The mountain troll lasted a bit longer. Not by much though. Finally with a scream of rage, and blood foaming from both its deformed mouths, it rounded on the leader just as he shoved his sword through its throat. Thrashing deep in its death throes about with the weapon sprouting from its neck the leader was thrown neatly into a nearby tree. I just stood there, frozen in shock as it slowly rounded on me, its eyed glazed over then it promptly fell over backwards with an earth shattering thud. Poking it with my trembling sword I surmised it was quite dead. With a shower of branches and a crunch of battered plate armor our leader fell out of the tree, and then shakily stumbled onto his feet. Blinking a bit cross-eyed at me he shook his head and almost tripped over the body of his short lived pet troll as he reached down and yanked the sword from the creature’s neck. With a grimace of disgust he pulled out a wad of cotton and wiped off the ichor before he slammed the sword back into its scabbard. Reaching to his belt he pulled up a wineskin and tossed it to me as he walked over and withdrew a short butchering knife. “Gump be good eatin!†He cried in delight as he plucked something shiny from inside it and pocketed the find. “Guess we got something in here to toss to the gods too er?†I was completely bewildered but, uncorking the wineskin I found the beverage within to taste mighty fine on the lips. I could tell my time in the militia was going to be interesting…

sword sheaths and guiges and for axes and mauls maybe something like this? i would suggest they would work like 1-slot toolbelts and containers at the same time but just for the weapon or shield it is meant for. the guige would have to be attached to the shield its used for aswell. all items would be leatherworking and possibly golden gemstone-encrusted scabbards for swords made by the jewelry smiths. secondly i want to suggest a one-handed spear weapon that only lets you equip a shield in the left hand, no idea how that would work with the coding just would love to see it if possible

Hello Holiday Wurmians! We have enjoyed a lot of changes to Wurm Online from the development team in the last year, and while the holidays are usually a time for festive activities, we have also had to endure some antics on behalf of a few specific individuals who have been very very naughty. We enjoy a great latitude of freedom in the abilities and creativity that can be achieved in the world of Wurm Online, but with that freedom, sometimes comes unintended results and situations where such an open system gets used against itself. This is not a failure of the system, but a choice made by individuals who actively work towards the harm of the game and its members. This is where the Game Masters come into action. We not only mediate the rules and apply them to all situations evenly in order to help with minor in-game issues that sometimes arise, we handle and judge the situations where the rules and even the game mechanics are used in a negative manner against our members. It is a fact of life that in any social environment there will be complications and mischievous behavior, however, sometimes someone comes along and crosses the line from bad social behavior to game breaking behavior. Recently, there have been a few individuals who have been abusing the mechanics of Wurm Online in ways that are clearly not intended on PVE servers. I am referring to the blatant stealing and theft of deeds and items from the resident citizens of the deeds. The mechanics that made this possible have very important functions in the lives of the citizens of those deeds, yet a few people have decided to use those same mechanics as a means of conducting PVP style raids on PVE servers and steal deeds and or items they should not have. This is covered by the rules. Cheating Definition: * Obvious abuse of any exploit, bug or other method of gaining skill/items that is not as intended. (macros are covered by the rule above) These situations clearly fall under this rule. We have reviewed a lot of information concerning these recent matters and have established a pattern of repeated abuses perpetrated by these individuals. After some consultation between the GM team and Code Club AB we have decided to remove these offenders from Wurm Online. Happy Holidays, Wurm Online Team

Hi, My wife and I recently spent our first week in wurm, and I went ahead and wrote a comic about our experience. I intend to write many more and post them to this thread. Thanks for reading! The next installment: A bit blurry, I apologize. Third installation: Homestead These things happen Fourth Installment: These treacherous peaks You must strike a delicate balance between flat land, and being near water. Well, actually... the majority of this stuff is. Hence the name and all. Sixth Installment
