    It doesn't seem to matter how big the server, this type of in-game drama always seems to happen. Most people are sensible and don't build near others, or ask politely beforehand. Just take a few minutes to find a better place. For those that don't follow the accepted norms of behaviour, your only protection is to deed your land. I have to say, if I followed your posting accurately you did seem to get aggressive rather early on in the conversation which pretty much made the other chap dig his heels in.

    It's not your land to protect if you don't have a deed on it unfortunately. The saying is: Deed it or Lose it. Just because you live in an area without a deed, doesn't mean the area belongs to you.

    I would like to have chimney extension. When building forge or oven 1st floor the chimney comes up only halfway on 2nd floor. With Chimney extension it would look better and add more nice decorative means in wurm square shaped rock chimney heights up the ceiling 10 bricks 10 clay 1 mallet Just like Forge or oven.

There are dozens of superpower stories about teenagers, and that's fine, but this one is going to concentrate on middle-aged points of view. Some of you read "Symbiote", my first blogfiction, and suffered through a substantial writing learning curve with me. Others of you read a few chapters of Symbiote, and gave up on it, especially if you read them before the rewrite of the first book. (The first chapters of Symbiote, even after the rewrite, seem so weak to me now.) Others might have been turned off by the power-creep in Symbiote. That's a very specific thing I will be watching for in Reject Hero. Zeke will grow over time, but nothing like Bob did. In all seriousness, Reject Hero is better written. I'd love for you folks to stop by and take a look at what's there.

    I dunno - I love my Volcano Haulmak - We even made a Mol Rehan geological survey center at the East peak. I even started sanding it for a better view and might make a nice little cottage on the southern ridge so i can see HoM in the distance. I understand that every enemy kingdom sees it as an unfair advantage. It was never about the map damage its just about the moon metals and how Mol Rehan controls them. I do feel for you. The rods were unusable in the freedom cluster because there was no influence gap and its a non-pvp server - but they were used on Chaos cause there is gaps on influence and can be fought over. Sure the area is controlled by one kingdom does not mean they can hold onto the land forever. Recruit and attempt to take them from Mol Rehan

    So here's a little pet project i was working on for the last few days. It looks for tweets from wurm serves (like this one), finds those that deal with uniques spawning or getting killed, retweets/favorites them and displays them on a website for easy access. Twitter: https://twitter.com/TooManyWurms Site: http://wurm.bdew.net/ Known issues: Identifying currently alive uniques is somewhat flaky, if you see something that doesn't makes sense - please tell me Xanadu uniques so far had no tweets about them, so no way to track those for now. Possible plans for the future: Track who was part of each kill and display it on the website Make a scoreboard for who participated in most kills If i already process all wurm tweets I might as well look for other interesting things in them... Timers for global spells? This is currently freedom-only. I might consider a version for epic if there's any interest.

    (This is based on real ingame occurances) It is a warm, early summer evening when Ulviirala enters the Large Rat Inn to sit down at the bar, choosing a stool that has quite some distance to anyone else. She raises her hand to the barkeeper and he'd be right with her, to order a tap ale right away. The evening progresses and she doesn't really bother to talk to anyone. Of course the barkeeper knew that she had something on her heart from the beginning, but he didn't want to impose. After staring away at the bottom of mug after mug, the barkeep finally approached her.. "So, what's on your mind?", the barkeep asks. Ulviirala tries to look surprised, giving him the raised eyebrow, "What?", she says. She knew all too well that she wanted to tell this to someone, but yet she felt that nobody would believe her anyway. A burden on her mind that she would never be able to get rid of. "There's obviously something on your mind you haven't been able to get rid of yet, so what's the deal? D'your boyfriend ditch you? S'your husband betrayed you, or what?", the barkeep asks boldly and confidently. Ulviirala impulsively chuckles for a second and turns her head away. "No. It's not any of that." A moment of silence passes before the barkeep makes a brief gesture, as if to ask, what it is instead. Ulviirala looks back at him, and while turning away her head from him replies, "You wouldn't believe me anyway". "I've heard a lot of stories to this day, some I believe, some I don't, and some I still ponder about to this day... and those are the best. So what kind is yours?", he asked with a really brash attitude. Ulviirala looks at him, almost with a smug face, saying "You wouldn't believe it anyways". But in truth she was not trying to be smug, she was afraid. Afraid to embarrass herself, afraid to be the laugh of the town, afraid of the consequences, afraid of that people would even put HER on the pyre for reporting the strange things she'd seen. No, she couldn't ever talk about that night when they came out. When she heard the words echo through the forest at night... mistress libila hear my plea, I offer my body to the master but my soul belongs to thee... and the insistent yell of someone else... KEEP GOING... AGAIN... mistress libila hear my plea, I offer my body to the master but my soul belongs to thee... and then the death scream. Yes. Whoever was saying that... "prayer"... certainly died soon after. His death screem echoed through the forest at night. Followed by a hollowing "GOOD, NOW BRING THE BODY TO ME". She had talked to her neighbours who sure had noticed that strange behaviour as well, and she was able to gather more information about it. She thinks she has some idea of what is happening there, and a tiny glimpse of what "the master" is. But she didn't dare talk about it to the barkeep at all. "Just leave me alone!", she exclaimed, looking away and mumbling, "I don't want any trouble at my doorstep". And the barkeep sure enough stopped asking questions, and left Ulviirala drinking just until after midnight, drink after drink, until she started stumbling out of the inn without talking to anybody at all. There will be a increased speed as long as the summed QL is higher than a milestone. - Saddles seem to have the same milestones as horseshoes regarding their QL. - WoA shows an increased speed if the single enchant reaches a milestone. It does not add up. - WoA milestones are 50, 70* and 90* power. - Every milestone adds 0,72 km/h for hoseshoes, saddles and enchants. * Estimated by the wiki milestones since they seem to be correct for WoA. I hope that this helps with open questions and frequently started discussions.

    I have felt this way too in the past (currently own about 4500 tiles myself) When i start feeling like that though, I stop working on big projects, and then focus on small things, or even pretend the rest doesn't exist and just work on my house for a bit. Helps a lot, and if you're anything like me and other large deed holders... after awhile you'll miss the space and want it again. So as long as you can afford the upkeep still i'd recommend sticking with it and just focusing on a smaller area. I also at one point had so many villagers, nearly all noobs constantly grinding me down for help with this / imps on these tools / what or how to do this . . . yada yada . . so if that is part of it as well, just change your stance on things and force them to be more self-reliable. (I've found its way easier to offer old things i have laying around, rather than offering to create or imp things they need or have from scratch)

    To me that sounds like a reasonable amount of fighters considering how little loot they drop, and considering how much destruction they cause if they spawn near a deed.

    (this could possibly be a Xanadu-only feature) On Xanadu clay patches are extremely common, yet they are often as large, if not larger than clay patches on the older servers. While it's definitely a great thing that clay is easier to find, the ubiquitous nature of it is a significant issue on Xanadu. Several times a day we get questions in CA HELP from players wanting to know how to get rid of clay tiles. In my opinion one of the biggest issues with so much clay is that it makes good coastal roads impossible - something that is a real shame when Xanadu has so much shoreline. If you want to make a coastal road you either have to go inland around the clay (which can be a significant detour and takes a way from the "coastal" part) or you have to leave a gap in the road - the last option being very dangerous to people on foot. My suggestion is to make it possible to convert the clay tiles with an action that takes both significant resources and skill. An example could be that with moderately high paving skill you could use 5-10 concrete on a tile to turn it into a stone slab. This would make it difficult enough to discourage griefers and it would make it a huge effort to remove all clay from an area. Remember that it's already easy to "remove" clay from public use by simply deeding over it.

    What they said. Only the land you have deeded is yours, the rest is a free for all. In that chat log you posted I must say you did come over as somewhat rude and judgmental, you might want to work on your diplomacy skills because responding like that will pretty much ensure that people will do exactly what you don't want them to do. It's seriously counter productive to respond like that He even asked if you were planning on expanding, which shows that he could likely have been convinced to move his road further away from your deed. Instead you pretty much outright attacked him verbally. If I had been in his shoes I'd also have put a road next to your deed after getting such a response. Seriously put some work in your diplomatic skills.

    If there had been a third option to the poll Revert the volcanoes and give MR two acceptable items equivalent to volcano rods in return Then I might have voted, because as it stands its MR Keeps volcanoes, gets small gains MR loses volcanoes and gets diddly squat. means all MR will vote the former, everyone else the latter, hardly any real choice in there.

    This is a bloody great idea, and coming from a guy like X gees.....re reads the post. I have read a few random posts and may I say even though I am a noob I consider the changes to make wurm more user friendly a positive way to grow, regardless of skill level of the players. The skill curve catches up to us all in time. Just cant get over it was Xs idea , fair dinkum , and it looks as though some poms like it also. _+1 Cheers Dadd

    It is a lesson that only needs to be learned once and think it is fine once they get trapped then they will never do it again. If anything i think an invisible barrier that would not allow them in the top or sides would be better. Anyway -1 from me.

    I do love how you are all turning this thread into appearing to ask for a map rollback for the whole thing when it was stated multiple times that the volcanos being removed is what the vote is for. Perhaps its reading comprehension you lack or you are just trying to turn the thread into something it's not because the majority of voters so far have voted in a way that you do not favor. This thread and poll is about the volcanos which should not exist and no other kingdom can create, being cleaned up by the devs. Not about rolling back any of the map. Clearly some people have other reasons for wanting the volcanos removed (like balance, nobody else can make them now so why should yet another window of opportunity slip past), or more towards my problem with it and reason for posting, which is that if indeed they have been removed and are unable to be created anymore on this server, the two that were spawned when the window of opportunity was open, should be cleaned up. I wouldn't want to dirty what land we have with a volcano, if we got the drop when it was possible (our first dragon didn't drop anything) and someone used it here i'd have made the same post. The reason I waited so long to post was because I hoped the dev's would have fixed the mess by now. I tend to look beyond my kingdom when I post, I understand some people are incapable of that but the point stands, if they are unintended for this server, they should not be here. Just for the 20th time though - I want the damage repaired around the volcanos NOT a rollback

    We have a great permanent Newbie Village at Hills of Aenasan (just east of Freedom Market) now thanks to Rosedragon and Jenks =D who did not let the dream die. Great place to drop in unannounced and ask for help, a free cottage, and a safe place to get started! oops it is gone now but North Indy Academy is now open -- read about it here. We have a rebuilt Public Mine just north of Freedom Market thanks to Carnaxus and many other members of the community who repaired dangerous dropshafts, located new iron veins and installed forges. We have replanted trees around the starter spawns making it easy for players to make a starter cart and tools and even now a settlement stake and find their own spot. What we need now is a way to help returning "older" players who quit Wurm for whatever reason, and are on occasion logging back all across independence to find their friends gone, their villages gone, their stuff all gone, they barely remember how to play. What happens for those returning vets in the next few hours will probably determine if they come back to Wurm or quit it forever. This thread is for them, posting resources that the community has to offer plus a chance for them to post requests for help and information We have many fine established villages that take in returning players, but sometimes these players only need a SMALL amount of help with no commitments. LANGUAGE HELP Sometimes we get large groups of players from non English countries. They are often shy to ask for help in public chat. Here they can inquire who else speaks their mother tongue, or players knowing Polish Korean Russian etc can post their names and invite these players to PM them for language help. ROWBOATS Some players returning to Indy will want to STAY here (yay!) but a number want to rejoin friends on Xanadu, or at least find more active villages there. Many of us have extra rowboats around the deed, or enjoy making rowboats as a way of skilling up shipbuilding. Prices fluctuate but often these are worth only 50c to 1 silver (more now due to new server demand) and it would be nice to 1) offer these for sale at a fair price (with lock and anchor) to those who can afford it 2) Offer FREE ones to players not yet able or willing to commit silver coins to the game. Those who can afford to pay, should. But some of us might be willing to kick in fifty cents lost profit to sponsor subsidize a returning player? The boats need to be set to the returning player as owner, so they can cross into Xanadu, they should be willing to "come and get it" if it is free, and to spend the 2-5 hours themselves rowing over to Xanadu and looking for their friends. they should never reselldonated boats for a profit but instead "pass on the love" to other new or returning players. LOANER CABINS For those who decide to stay on Indy, but want a quiet remote area to reacquaint themselves to the game, I'm suggesting some of us make available 1-4 weeks free stay at a guesthouse where they can prowl around on their own, byuild their own replacement tools or rowboat, explore for a new homestead site, or whatever they like. Again these would be "but you got to get here on your own" arrangements -- some of them will love the challenge of running cross-country naked with only an outdated map, others might want a place easier to get to. LOWGRADE REPLACEMENT TOOLS These are not enchanted uber tools and in many cases, are just spare copies of the 10Q non improvable newbie tools, but even those might be enough to help a returning player acquire some iron, chop a few trees, and remake their own tools. They might only need a steel & flint, a hatchet , a pickax and a carving knife to get started. ADOPT-A-RETURNEE Some want more social contact, but not really a full village, so here they can ask if anyone will "adopt" them for 1-2 weeks to help them reacclimate to the game. This might be a little more hands on than just a loaner cottage and involve someone willing to talk them through how to play the game with all of the new changes. Homestead Location Services Some of us know of great spots that are a bit off the beaten road, and would be happy to guide someone to these areas. In some cases they might be close to starter spawn but in other cases, they might be an hour or two out. Many returning vets are happy to make a one to two hour run so long as they know there is a good open spot for them at the end of the run. A mine and a nearby guard tower are always a big plus! Yes they can always just ask for help in public chat -- some may be shy especially if they have found public chat too "aggressive" in the past, or asked for help and felt ignored, so this is a more protected private place for them to ask. Also if they ask for help ingame and get little response, people can PM them a link to this thread to maybe get additional help. Yes they can always just join an established village -- some are shy making a commitment with people they do not know, or they REALLY want to do it on their own just need a small jumpstart help. Current players can post here various resources they can offer ("I'll offer rowboats, you get them today but must send me the 1 silver whenever you can afford it, even if it is weeks from now" etc etc. Whatever the terms they want to set -- cash up front or a promise to pass the boat on to another newbie etc. If you are offering a remote area cottage, then pictures and a map might be nice plus whatever terms you want to set ("If you do not log in for 15-20 days, you are kicked off the writ") For starters, I have a couple of "temporary use" guesthouse cottages in remote areas where they can get shelter, trees, mine access, I will post some maps and pix later, bit post here a request if you are interested in a free loaner cottage in a remote "hermit" area, where you can be alone to rediscover the game. Another project I would like to do "later down the road" is to clean up some old abandoned deeds that might make a great "first homestead" for a new player but are currently littered with ugliness and broken mines. I enjoy digging up old concrete slabs and replanting it with trees, repairing old guard towers, I am sure others enjoy "fixing" broken old mines etc, so maybe we can also clean up some ugly areas down the road and turn Indy beautiful and slum-free once more.

    I fail to see anything in the description or the conversation that indicates any sort of Griefing, as defined in http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/7-game-rules/. Block Access? NOPE. Harassment? NOPE. Lockpicking? NOPE. Highway modification? NOPE. Heritage site modification? NOPE. KoS violations? NOPE. Blocking Merchants? NOPE. Seems to me this is a pretty normal case of 2 people disagreeing on something, but nothing on the level of griefing.

    Somebody doing something differently than you would prefer is not griefing. If the person was proposing to come and plop dirt all over your deed that might be grieifing. Queue 10 pages of hyperbolic and strawmen posts about grieifing and rules.

    Looks good, I realize the quoted bit is a bit tongue in cheek but ... I kind of doubt it's possible to do it right since everybody has their opinions and some are overly attached to them. For instance the bottom picture looks good but I probably would have gone up and over the hill more rather than cut through it. When I've made roads and where the terrain allows it I try to keep the slope transitions to around 5, keep the cut side slopes to less than 15 or 20 and keep the total slope to 20 or less. So I probably would have started climbing at 3 to 5 slope two tiles before where that first dirt pile on the right is, and slowly climbed to a point where I could gradually descend to the far side (about 3 tiles past the random item pile on the right). That would result in some cuts but they'd be shallower. The point above isn't that your road is somehow wrong, just that I'd have done it very slightly differently. Where the problems occur is when folks seem to think that their way is the right way. The road looks good in case somebody with reading issues somehow thinks I'm casting aspersions on it rather than making a broader point that there is no right (though I've seen some Wild BL roads that could be called Wrong).

Nachtmahr, 70+fs, Huge Axe Might bring some of my villagers with me this time if I can interest them for a few hours of sailing Just as bystanders though @Calypsoi I'm pretty new to those unique-slayings, but attended the forest giant one and the kyklops as well. To get to the location down there I'll have to sail for 5+ hours for sure. With Ruger organizing it it's worth the travel though, at least for me that was an important point. Anyways.. looking forward to finally getting a look at a dragon in wurm

    Anyways... yes clearly this is all a vast conspiracy that favors MR. Over the years Ive lost count of all the "windows of opportunities" that have arisen from actual reported bugs or a Dev later changes their mind that the intended behavior is actually OPed. Sometimes you gain from them and sometimes you dont. Many times reverting the result is next to impossible. EDIT: FYI I have no problems with more rod drops from unique kills. In fact I think the rods came from pve server uniques. Unfortunately I missed the hunts due to RL schedule

    +1 I just placed an altar using a tried and tested method of dropping the large anvil to predict where the altar would end up approximately. I dropped the anvil a few times to get a feel for where the altar would end up, but when the altar was made, it was right at my feet. Now i got an altar in the middle of the room instead of against the wall. Being able to move altars, even slightly, would be very helpful, especially since you cannot create them in a spot of your choosing to begin with.

    I have to disagree to be honest. This can happen with any highway, not just rolling hills. I feel having roads that roll with the terrain look far better than the 15 slop instantly to 0 slope, etc that you tend to see a lot. Mind you, it's also a matter of preference.
