There's nothing as welcoming or reassuring as the warm face of the new GM models.

For those that don't know, the old original Pryath is back in game. And now back in forums. I've been back for a few months now and have been having a blast! Special thanks to Solmark and Fev who were kind enough to let me back into the account. I've been hanging out in my old stomping grounds at The Damned on Chaos in JK. And I can often be found on Deli at Wildside.

Man, my reading comprehension is terrible. I totally misread the original intent of this posting as not that of seeking player advice or alternative methods of dealing with a "newer" issue of bison trampling/eating pretty much everything to the molten core of the planet. Nor that of trying to promote theorycraft discussion over animal behavior and best practices land usage. But rather that of demonstrating to the development team in textual and graphical form what the new mechanics actually look like and the resultant player remedy investment required. I will utterly strive to read more carefully in the future.

I don't even know what to say about this video, But I felt I had to share it... This really makes one question, where do we stand today... [media]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7dLU6fk9QY

I think the video is based on a massive false assumption: as if issues like selfishness and want of an "easier way" didn't exist before technology came around. We need to stop trying to blame things that are a single change (in this case the ways in which we communicate) and start to actually take responsibility for the fact that we're human... we're programmed to be greedy and selfish and to have ambitions to be the alpha human. Technology is just an extension of our ability to do that. If evidence like people "texting instead of going out for lunch" was true, then why do we still have restaurants and businesses that thrive on people going out to do things? It's simply not true that technology has really changed what we do, it has simply changed our methods of communication. Someone texting at the dinner table? All that they're trying to do is climb the social hierarchy through their phone opposed to face to face, the only new thing is the way that they do it

Suggestion to add a larger version forge that takes 3 or 4 times the materials of a forge to make. It should also be graphically much larger than a forge to give forges a use in decorating homes. Make it medium->hard to start to build (30-40 skill?). Allow it to smelt 50 to 100 ore at the same time. Preferably more than less. (this is the BIG point in this). Please. -------- UPDATE: To outline what I've gotten out of the suggested improvements stated in this thread, - The smelter takes 30 to 40 skill to start and continue. - Serious amount of materials to build, up to 5 or 10 times the regular forge just to not make them mass produced. - 100 ores fit in it. - One per tile. - Graphically large. - Burns a lot of wood quickly. Some suggest up to a full 100 kg tree to fuel it completely. - Smelting time quality dependent, just as forges. Faster the higher the quality is.

Human beings as a species are horrible, as individuals we're tolerable. Whether we take ourselves the extinction and the planet with us, really in the scheme of the universe is irrelevant and insignificant. People have imagined importance to give their lives meaning, but really everything we've done and everything we will do does not matter in the slightest. I just try to live my life as best I can and be kind and enjoy myself

Just a couple of thing to make ships more effective and usable. Quality has an effect on top speed. At the moment ql just decreases decay rate and anything above 10ql will float. If current maximum speeds were set for a ship/boat of 50ql. Above this the ship speed would be increased slightly, below it would be decreased. This would also give good shipbuilders some renown and maybe a little more income. Allow a raise/lower sail action. At the moment boats/ships have 2 speeds. Wind and Wind plus Rowing. Have different states of sail between fully lowered and fully raise. 3-5 "levels" would be enough to allow better control for navigation when coming into dock and also entering/navigating canals. There is nothing quite like spending a few minutes push/pulling your Knarr down off a cliff because you entered the cave entrance with the wind behind you! Or beaching every few minutes in a blackness of Colossus Snake Canal on Inde for the same reason. I believe that both of these would make travelling by sea a much more pleasurable experience. So please for the love of Vynora consider these ideas!

I just put some baby bison in a field. Two needed genesis spell. I cast the spell on one, and went to sleep. I am meticulous about making sure there are no packed dirt squares in my fields of animals. When I went to sleep, this field had no packed squares. I wake up and think, ooh I can cast genesis again, I log in, and this is what I see. This is NOT fun. Every day just to make sure the fields are ok it takes at least half an hour. Now I have to unpack THIS many squares every day?? These animals are not going to live, sometimes I have to miss a day. I do not understand how anyone can think that with what leisure time I can find to play Wurm, I want to spend most of it unpacking dirt squares. I get it already! Cultivate, plant, pick flower. How many times a day does anyone think people want to do these SAME EXACT ACTIONS. I do not know anyone in my RL who'd play this game with all the repetition. If my sister or brother knew I was actually considering spending the time to unpack these squares, I think they'd stage some kind of intervention. This is not a way to attract more players to Wurm. It's a way to get me to rage quit though. There's enough repetition already, there doesn't have to be more that can potentially kill animals if you don't make it onto Wurm every 8 hours. PLEASE fix this.

Like everything in Wurm, we just have to find creative and fun ways to work around it. For example I made a bison-inspired drinking game last night. Brush the Bison. Rules are pretty simple, using a brush of a QL no greater than 30 and no WoA enchant, successfully brush a bison that's in a wide open area and free to roam. If the "groom" action gets interrupted, you have to take a shot. yeah....I was late to work today.

Conquering the whole world is not end game? Then what is? Hacking the game code and erasing it?
  15. 2 points
There is an endgame, most people just refuse to play it. It's creating your own pvp kingdom, building the land, expanding to conquer the world and defeat all enemies.

can already cast enchants like frostbrand + flaming aura on arrows, and sometimes it's just too much work, especially in PvE +1 for the idea, but I dont see anybody using them as even regular arrows are quite expensive already.

Hi, although we're working mainly on fixing bugs and stuff like bridges, more decorative items and preparing for the Xanadu release right now, I just want to acknowledge that I hear what you're saying about the Epic cluster. A lot of the mechanics are supposed to work like you want: Rock-paper-scissors is already there but apparently not noticable enough. The battle camps and towers are of course supposed to be vital points for conquering and capturing land does have good effects for your kingdom. There is also the HOTA and the scenarios and missions that are ingame with rewards but apparently aren't incentives enough right now. From the OP: involves a huge emphasis on territory, expansion, and incorporates some type of campaign format for warfare I'm like 'that is the idea already'... Scenarios are the campaigns. You're supposed to want to expand and keep your territory and one of the reasons for this is that it should be easier to do missions if you hold more territory. Apparently that's not the case, at least not the perceived situation. also the entire map would be covered with chokepoints/capturable areas That's the idea behind towers and battle camps. The more territory you have the easier you should have to get the resources you want. However, they don't provide resources themselves. The HOTA does though, but apparently that is conquered all the time by one side. Taking control of the towers and the battle camps surrounding the HOTA would make it easier to gain those resources. Anyways, we should be able to have a serious discussion about all this in a while and hopefully some improvements before the summer. What I'm saying is that we have quite a lot of disparate functionality to play around with that we can make compact and shine. Keep posting suggestions for how to make them play together nicely here.

Put it on the east side of freedom1 and west side of freedom2. And fix Cele<>Chaos connection while you are at it. And to all those screaming about economy - 99% of the player base will not feel the difference. The 1% rich players that will can adapt or die become less rich, we shouldn't hold the game hostage for them.

To add to conversation, let me quickly descrbie my noob experience in Wurm. I was in no hurry to join a deed. Simply, I am not the kind of person to join the first place that would invite me and I also wanted to explore the land a bit more to learn what was out there and what would my interests be. With that in mind, my friend and I set east along the main road from the spawn point and travelled across the populated lands. Two newbs with short swords but big dreams. Our immediate world revolved around marvelling at what we found as we went along, and more importantly - survivial. This meant getting good at running, knowing where the nearest guard tower was and finding a way to feed ourselves. Not soon after we departed, we made a campsite near a castle and a forest. We set up a "noob shop" there, meaning we kept a fire going, gathered firewood and some raw materials, and spent our days fishing, foraging and scavenging meat. We couldn't kill anything yet, but we were near a guard tower so with the kind help of the guards, we stayed safe and fed. Literally all of our efforts went towards survival and making some basic tools. About a week after (we only played a couple of hours a day max), we ventured forth to a nearby market village along an important canal. It was there that my friend unfortunately stopped playing. Not to be deterred, I explored the lands around the market for a week or so. I found an abandoned house and ended up armed with a long sword and a better shield. I also found a few useful items, like a frying pan and a much better fishing rod. As much of my exploration was done by water, I gathered enough courage one day to swim a bit further away towards a mountain. At the foot of it, I found a tunnel. I crept up this long and winding tunnel with trepidation, but eventually I emerged on the other side of it, to find myself near the top of the very mountain I swam to! What's more, I quickly found that that there was a village there - no longer deeded and in early stages of decay. It was completely abandoned. In the middle of the village stood a guard tower. Almost on a whim, I decided to stay on the mountain. There were many decaying houses there with anything I could possibly want. There were tools, storage bins with food and raw materials, heaps of cotton, altars, chests and even a path down to water. For a new player like me, it was an enchaning place. It was completely abandoned - not a soul for days, even weeks. I lived like a hermit there and my only companion was the everpresent howling of the wind. There was trouble around as well. The area was infested with mobs and I was in no shape to kill any of them. My daily routine revolved around logging in and then clearing the immediate surroundings with the help of the trusty guards, helping them to get some combat skill. I healed the guards after every combat, to keep them alive and to practice First Aid. I didn't even build a house... I just lived in the ruins of one that was already there. To this day, I remember that place fondly. I stayed for nearly three months on that mountain. When I finally left, I had a great number of tools, a set of leather armour that I made for myself, a bunch of cotton and supplies, and a number of rising skills that I worked on almost daily. It was time to move on and I was ready. With a plan in mind, I left the mountain and travelled back through the market town towards a deed of a friend that I made in the past. Once there, I settled on his deed... not as a villager, but as a guest. I stayed in his rest house and for the first time I slept in a bed. I was moving up in the world! I set up a workshop in a decaying shack just outside his deed, where I worked daily on my skills and my first boat. Compared to the mountain, life here was very safe. I had a spirit templar just a few tiles away and bunch of towers in the area if I wished to venture out. The mob spawns were very light and those that did spawn were often weak enough for me to kill them on my own - which really started taking my fighting skill on its upward path. I chatted with my friend daily, got a bunch of help when I needed it and learned tips and tricks about life in Wurm. This phase lasted almost two months. Finally, my boat was ready. Of course, I built it so far away from water that it took some time to drag it to the shore, but the world was now open. Keeping the deed as my base, I now spent most of my days on the water. I would take two or three days trips around the server, exploring potential areas for a deed. I lived out of my boat and with some fighting skill in my pocket, I was able to see all the places I identified as possibly interesting. So many great places! When I finally found the one I wanted to deed, I spent a few days exploring the area, talking to my potential neighbors and measuring land. When time came, I planted a deed and became landed gentry. In the next few days, I moved all my earthly possessions from my friend's place to my new deed and the rest, as they say, is history. Why have I described my beginnings in such detail? Well... I hope that any new players that read this (and who haven't fallen alseep till this point yet) will realize that there are many, many ways of playing Wurm. Joining the village right off the bat is one option. But there are many others. For me, the journey was trully magical. I have arrived now and my daily world revolves around terraforming, mining, tree cutting, feeding animals, hunting and enjoying my land. But I would have not given up my early experiences for anything. I did not join a village at the start. And I don't regret it one bit.

One of the things that I've noticed over the years is that Wurm gets a substantial population boost each time a new server is created. Another thing I've noticed is that almost everyone wants to live very close to water. Also, people consider a server full when there is no longer any reasonably easy to build on land next to the ocean on said server. I cannot imagine that by this time Rolf hasn't figured this out. I suspect that this upcoming server is going to be an archipelago map, with a few big islands and lots of small ones, and a whole lot of coastal land. If it's not, then I'll be baffled, but I've been baffled before.

Wurm has limitations - just take a glance at the Suggestions forum. I think every MMO out there has these. To take something and make creative use of it, with all of its half-baked beauty, is a way to bring spice, sizzle, oomph into the game. It doesn't even have to be roleplay, nor does it have to be done with Premium time. Would some of you mind brainstorming with me to find these? --- Example idea: Travel from place to place in a wagon or large cart, selling tea and juices (or giving them away for free) to the people in Local Chat. (They are usually friendly and dying for distraction from the grind.) Catch up on some gossip, make some friends and leave a smile on their "juice-stained" lips. Idea # 2: Travel the same way, advertising various goods to the locale, which the said locale may be in need of. Sometimes traders and merchants are too far away, as are resources. These can be sold or bartered. A traveling merchant?

Rather not even bother? Climate change, environmental protection, renewable energy and reduction of unhealthy chemicals are some of the most discussed and prioritised topics in the world the last 50 years. Not 3 decades ago THE WHOLE WORLD agreed to stop using CFC products to save the ozone layer. When have you ever seen the whole world agree on something?

In my design I originally had the West side perimeter under water, however sine you stated that N,E,W are all landlocked I changed it to mirror the East side perimeter. I left a couple small spaces on the East side near the Inn and Stables to do whatever you please with in the future. The various buildings for the deities are intended to have altars in each of course, for praying and for sermons. Hope you enjoy. If you have any questions or would need help planning any of the higher carpentry buildings, please do pm me. EDIT: Two of the roof pieces of the inn were causing that annoying bug where the roof model is screwed up, so I took them out to make it look more solid. Those roof sections are intended to be there, I promise! lol Also, the path to the Garden of Fo is supposed to be a diagonal path, however that model doesn't exist yet in deed planner.
