Why should I be PENALIZED for being an older player? Why does the fact that I've played this game for 5 years mean I can't use my old char? And just for a week? It's lame and should not happen. It's not that anyone is going to grab all the good land, but why do I have to start a new char to get on the first day? This rule accomplishes only 1 thing. For that first week, if any deeds are placed, they will be paying for ingame silvers to get it. As to Rolf's other excuse, that the server may crash with a large influx of players, that's a problem he really needs to fix before he opens the server anyway.

Some people may remember a thread I posted last year regarding practice dolls and weapon damage: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/73915-practice-dolls-and-weapon-damage/ The short version is that I came to suspect the damage melee weapons take per hit on a practice doll is actually their base damage value (relative damage per hit before factoring in modifiers). I tested and listed those values in that thread, and they seemed to correspond fairly well with combat damage. With the changes to damage output of some weapons since then, I decided to test the damage weapons take from using a practice doll again. Since the old thread was archived, I had to create a new one to post, though. As before, different wood types did not make a difference in these values (tested with the 14 tree-based wood types), and there was also no difference in these values for iron and steel weapons of the same type. The values were also the same for rare weapons as for normal ones of the same type. A steel staff still has a higher value than a wooden staff (They're probably considered to be different base item types.). While some weapon types still have the same values, it is worth noting that the values for some weapon types have changed (in some cases, significantly) since my previous thread on the topic. Anyway, here are the new observed values: Practice Doll Weapon Damage Huge Axe: 0.600 Large Maul: 0.550 Halberd: 0.450 Scythe: 0.450 Spear: 0.450 Two Handed Sword: 0.450 Huge Shod Club: 0.400 Long Spear: 0.400 Maul: 0.400 Steel Staff: 0.400 Axe: 0.325 Sickle: 0.300 Longsword: 0.275 Small Axe: 0.250 Small Maul: 0.225 Short Sword: 0.200 Belaying Pin: 0.100 Wooden Staff: 0.100 Butchering Knife: 0.075 Pickaxe: 0.075 Carving Knife: 0.050 Hatchet: 0.050 Shovel: 0.050 Hammer: 0.025 Plank: 0.025 Saw: 0.025 Shaft: 0.025 Mallet: 0.015 Rake: 0.015 Leather Knife: 0.000 Scissors: 0.000 Practice Doll Weapon Damage (Two Handed Weapons) Huge Axe: 0.600 Large Maul: 0.550 Halberd: 0.450 Scythe: 0.450 Spear: 0.450 Two Handed Sword: 0.450 Huge Shod Club: 0.400 Long Spear: 0.400 Steel Staff: 0.400 Wooden Staff: 0.100 Plank: 0.025 Saw: 0.025 Shaft: 0.025 Practice Doll Weapon Damage (One Handed Weapons) Maul: 0.400 Axe: 0.325 Sickle: 0.300 Longsword: 0.275 Small Axe: 0.250 Small Maul: 0.225 Short Sword: 0.200 Belaying Pin: 0.100 Butchering Knife: 0.075 Pickaxe: 0.075 Carving Knife: 0.050 Hatchet: 0.050 Shovel: 0.050 Hammer: 0.025 Mallet: 0.015 Rake: 0.015 Leather Knife: 0.000 Scissors: 0.000

Indeed it does. But nothing in Wurm is clear. I focus on other parts because there seems to be a tendency to go back to some obscure thing in the wording as being intended while the clear things were not.

Realizing he was being outdone by what was rightfully his meal, the wolf sat down on the roof to formulate another plan. It was at that moment that he realized that he was sitting on a thatched roof. "Straw!" the animal jumped for joy, "Your roof is made of straw! Now we are talking. No wood, no nails, just plain straw. Prepare to be devoured!" With renewed vigor, the wolf grabbed his troll club and started bashing the roof. Using gravity with each stroke for more power, he pounded the hell out of the roof for the next ten minutes till finally - exhausted - he sat down. Taking this opportunity to examine the goal of his aggression, he narrowed his eyes and looked carefully at the straw. "You... got... to... be... kidding... me!" his arms fell to his sides, "I do less damage on straw than I did on wood!" In fact, the club itself looked worse for wear than the roof. "Would you be a dear," the piggy turned off the last lamp in the house, "And stop making all this noise? I am going to bed." "You know what," the wolf suddenly jumped on the ground, throwing the troll club against the house, only to watch it bounce off harmlessly, "Screw you! Screw your walls, screw your roof and screw your entire house! I've had it. I am outta here. Pray you never meet me in the open forest!!" With that, without looking back at the low quality shack that was still peacefully standing in the forest behind him, the wolf walked over to the next pig's house. Once there, he sat down, closed his eyes and meditated for a while, calming his nerves and his heart, but unable to quiet his ever growling stomach. Finally, in relative control of himself once again, he opened his eyes and looked at the second house. "You gotta be joking..." he muttered to himself, "This one has a fence." Encircling the house itself was a wooden fence protecting a wagon and a few farm tiles. A locked gate, clearly marked by a cross-beam, was the only way in. "Little pig, little pig, let me in!" he shouted. "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" came the high pitched reply. "Of course," the wolf sighed to himself, "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow the house down!" Aware that he hasn't eaten in some time and determined anew, the wolf took the troll club once again and started bashing the fence with furious anger. He was at it for a good five minutes, absorbed in his task and making some decent progress for once, till suddenly a voice startled him from behind, "Excuse me, wolf, what are you doing?" Standing behind the wolf was a human, a female human to be precise, wearing a Horde of the Summoned tabbard and a drake set. "Who are you?" the wolf asked harshly, giving the newcomer an unwelcome look. "I am a game master." "A game master? Who the hell called a game master?" "I did," the high pitched voice from inside the house replied. "You called the game master, porky?! Why would you do that!" "Well," the woman interjected in an even but very pleasant tone, "This is a legal enclosure. You are not allowed to bash the fence." "I am not allowed what!?" the wolf suddenly felt a massive surge of anger shoot through his veins, all his predatory instincts spiking at once, "I am a friggin' wolf! I can do whatever the hell I please!" "Incorrect," the game master replied in the same pleasant tone, raising a finger, "This is a legal enclosure and by the rules of this server, you cannot mess with its fences or walls." "What sever? What rules?" the wolf suddenly faced the game master in anger, but evoked no reaction from his adversary, "Do you know what I am? I am the wolf! Yes, the goddamned wolf! A WOLF! I don't play by the rules! I do as I please. I eat pigs. I eat grandma. I eat Little Red Riding Hood. I terrorize entire forests! Dammit, woman, are you not aware of the wolf?! Have you not read anything at all? What planet are you from!!" "I am sorry," the game master replied in the same conversational tone, "Rules are rules. I cannot make any exceptions for your status." "My status!?" the wolf started loosing control of himself, foaming at the mouth and shaking with fury, "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? It's all here in the script, dammit. Look!" Pulling a parchment from a pack, he pressed it right in front of the game master's face, "Read. Here, see? Wolf, three little pigs, huff and puff, chinny chin, dinner, pork! It's all here in black and white! No mention of any friggin' legal enclosure!" "Listen pal," the game master's voice suddenly turned stone cold, "I have told you what you need to know. Once again, this is a legal enclosure, you are not allowed to mess with it. Take a hike or you will be banned from the server." "BANNED!? How are you going to ban me?" the wolf threw the script to the ground and started jumping up and down on it, "You know what... nevermind. Screw your legal enclosure and your rules. I am done here. I can't take this anymore! I am moving on!" Without as much as a second look at the game master and the house, the wolf marched in fury towards the third and last remaining house. He ignored the customer satisfaction survey that suddenly appeared in his support window and with eyes fixed on the prize marched in big steps and with an incredibly loudly growling stomach towards the final pig. He passed a moss patch and a desert, barely in control of his angry, shaking body. With a look in his eyes that could kill at a distance, he finally reached the final house... ...only to find that it was a three story, stone brick mansion, surrounded by a high iron fence. The troll club slipped from the wolf's calloused right paw. Hysteria overtook his senses. His vision clouded and his nostrils flared. Insane rage took over what remained of his clear thinking. "Little pig, little p... ah screw it!!" Loosing the last shred of self control, the wolf gnarled his teeth, coiled all his muscles and screamed in guttural rage as he put his body in a gallop and charged the high iron fence head on, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!" He never made it. The templar of the deed he was on intercepted him just a few meters from his destination and took him down in a few strokes. When his body was butchered in the morning, he produced no meat and no fat, but only one, calloused paw. His hide, however, looked great as a wolfskin rug inside the third piggy's mansion.

It amazes me how much people complain these day. We still get one of the cheapest pay to play mmo's, if you decide to have multiple toons and deeds that you responsibility. We complain when things change and freely embrace it when we get something new with not much thought about apart from "awesome, but when are we getting....". So entitled we are. Spell cast just posted so many very we balanced points. 1 Week to wait? game breaking. Why should new players get a head start? are you going to give them you farwalker amulet? We seem to be ok with things that are in the game that advantage ourselves and cry when they don't. Instead of complaining about it adjust to it, nobody is wiping the servers, nobody is killing your children and so on. THing like this are not game breaking. I see nothing Rold has done that really need so much complaining about and If you feel that it really is that bad perhaps you are that frustrated that it time to move on, but from where I see it, you are just shooting yourself in the foot as you will be the one missing out. Even the previous issue we have had lately people threaten to leave, Im pretty sure they are still here. As far as costs and conspiracy theory's of how Rolf does things to try and make more money? He has to make money. fair enough nobody ever wants to pay anymore then they are currently paying. But it always happen. You cant say you arent use to it in everyday life, get use to it here as well, its not going away. I really find it boring to keep hearing "Daddy took my toys away" even though Daddy keeps giving us more toys all the time.

couple of points to make.... for those concerned about money coming in from epic... as i understand the post here : http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/100528-news-update-work-and-progress-week-17/?p=1016960 specifically the line: "When it comes to connecting the old servers we will wait at least a week after initial release" I believe as a player that that means that none of the old servers will be connected, epic or freedom. the epic servers certainty should count as old in this case. as far as people worrying about all the good spots being taken... you're joking right? the server has the land area of 16 chaos or indy servers. i did the math in another thread, cant remember which one, but this SINGLE server has just a little under 4 times the land area of all of the other servers currently in wurm combined. i dont think all the good spots will be taken that fast, travel times will ensure that. and finally, not every server needs to be a new start with all 0 skill characters. This is new land added to an existing world, I dont see anything wrong with existing characters being welcome there even though i dont plan to move myself. Incidentally, (just had another thought and went to check my memory) in his post here: the thread about traders rolf said: I dont think i would assume that there will be traders on xanadu for people to make trader deeds with. Xanadu is a new server after all, not an existing one and could be a place to try out some of those interesting ideas he mentions.

Since we received a lot of feedback requesting that you shouldn't have to purchase premium time in order to create deeds on the upcoming Xanadu server, I asked the team whether they saw many issues with letting non-premiums do that. As it looks right now we couldn't figure out any show stopper really, and it would make it a lot easier for people to settle down and enjoy the game. One reason we have not allowed it before was that when a never-premium mayor account is deleted after three months of inactivity it causes lots of problems if the settlement remains, but other reasons could be deed griefing and hogging resources cheaply. From the feedback and preliminary discussions we had in team that should apparently not be an issue. So basically, the current plan is to allow non-premiums to start a deed. This helps you experienced players place a deed without having to prem up and hand it to your main account once the borders open which is the main thing we want to solve.

Xanadu is big. So big, that I hope it has biome zones like a planet. In the north, its colder and has fur trees and birch trees. In the far northern coast, the land should naturally revert back to tundra tiles. In the central region, it should be temperate. On the far southern edges of the server, make the tiles auto convert back to desert or steppe. I'm hoping there will be steppes several times the size of independence, and maybe a desert that is 36km across or something crazy like that. Imagine getting lost in a sea of sand, with no forested mountains in the distance. Each biome should have different resources, so you play the game differently. In deserts and steppes, there is little wood so you have to make houses out of adobe. Perhaps growing crops in the desert is impossible without watering them with water from wells. Biome specific plants can be developed, like dates in the desert. In the southern hot portion of the map, there even could be a rainforest region several times the size of Independence. of course, every biome has its own native fauna and flora. With the addition of more alchemy potions, certain ingredients could be found in only certain regions, which makes them a valuable trade commodity in regions where they aren't found. Remove these items from the mailing system to maximize this effect.

Hello, in the light of the changes that will happen in 2 weeks, I seek an official resolve to the following problem: I own 2 deeds that are divided by the minimum distance of 10 tiles (5 'free' perimeter tiles on both) that cannot be joined to 1 because wurm does not allow asymettric deeds N-S and E-W.I have built tall stone walls between them where I have my farm as well as some other things. Until now the space was a legal enclosure. With the removal of the rule anyone can bash into this 10 tile space, destroy/farm all my farm tiles, dig down, cut my trees, make a tunnel entrance, enter my mines (between my own deeds), lock BSBs (even on deeds) and destroy the mines in all ways they want, I am on PvE. Please give me a reasonable* defense for this situation? Thank you, Thor *Asking me to destroy my walls, rethink my farm, hire mag to collapse and reinforce my mines is unacceptable, I did not do anything wrong, i worked with that game mechanics offered (and still offer as nothing changed).

HotA is like a capture the flag event, you try to capture pillars with your alliance while stopping others from doing the same by well.. pvp. I think it will be great if we can have HotA area on pve server with different ruleset, like when you are beaten, you won't die, you just teleported out of HotA area and can't enter until session end. Beside that, maybe different, lesser prizes so it doesn't compete with the pvp one. And also remove current HotA area ability to build things on it xD .

Unfortunately not true, deed, fence lock, and keep everything in a building and then you are protected from most griefing. I still dont understand why someone who deosn't have a permission on my deed can lock any BSB or FSB they feel like. And that is just one example.

Most of the drama you see is a reflection of the complexity of the game. Apparently minor tweaks in one area (say animal ratio) can have truly unexpected consequences in another. Humans are excellent at group sourcing to find the path of least resistance. So when 1 person out of a 1000 finds the weakness in a plan, reports it and everyone jumps on board saying "Yeah that's obvious Rolf's an idiot". Or when they say 'he could just' they don't realize that what's trivial to conceptualize can be nearly impossible to implement depending on how things are related in the DB or the structure of the DB schema. The rest of the drama comes from the fact that no two players want the same thing, everybody you see liking one particular idea will be a mix of liking and hating another. So every change gets that fraction of the player base that hates it hopping up and yelling about it with another group that likes it so ... constant drama. He has to try to navigate solutions that will both fit his idea for the game (because it is his game) and annoy the smallest number of people. Does that mean that Rolf does a fairly good job of testing, nope, testing has always been an issue (though the player base doesn't exactly help when given the chance). Does that mean he's never made some really bad mistakes, nope he has. But the actual forum drama is entirely a reflection of the cognitive dissonance of the player base, their inability to differentiate their short term personal interests and the game's long term interests and their inability to describe things in objective non-hyperbolic strawman ways. In other words, no you didn't pick a bad time, it's always been like this and always will. The forums of every other MMO are largely the same.

That is my plan but I want information on if NEW deeds will be 1c per tile. His post says expanded more than once. It says nothing of new deeds. I am not going to pull up two 70 euro deeds and put down a 140 euro deed twice the size because they now believe that 10 tiles between them is griefer zone errrr public lands. I am willing to adapt but I want full disclosure first. I love Wurm but I throw more money at it than any other game I have ever played and lately it seems that every time I turn around I have to throw even more at it because someone wants PvP rules on Freedom with PvE protections. So I plan to do this, Scarface, but this is my last straw. I already disbanded one deed and it is not going back up. The premium alt that held it not going back premium. The premium alt that holds the second deed is not going back premium via purchase of premium as it will be paid for by ingame silvers. I fully intend to deed it, but Wurm is the one losing it. It just lost upkeep on a deed and 2 premium accounts because I have to merge all my holdings into one to protect my investment. The gain in upkeep for the tiles in the middle is nowhere even close to the loss of two premium accounts. Reason doesn't work. Maybe these numbers will. If 50 players with 3 premium alts and 3 deeds no longer buy premium for 2 alts and disband one deed that simply cannot be made to fit into the new larger deed, how much is lost in revenues? People say deed it or lose it. They say support the game by premium time and deeds. I did. Now the game does not support me. So now I won't. 23 euro doesn't sound like much of a loss until you multiply it greatly. Plus, if I am not able to take advantage of this discount, Wurm loses one more premium account fore certain and possibly two more who share the deed and will not be getting a 140 euro deed and the chunk of monthly upkeep to maintain it. That is just one deed/player and friends.

When I first started playing Wurm I was amazed at the deeds other players had built and I was motivated to build similar things myself. If I had started on a new server without any experienced players around, I would likely not have lasted very long - but others might feel different. What concerns me is that the first week, new players on Xanadu will experience large empty deeds with no players just waiting for the borders to open - not the best way to showcase a game. PR wise, I would do it the other way around - let experienced players be the first to enter the server, give them a week to establish themselves (and let them test performance issues since we are more forgiving) then open for new players. That way new players would hopefully experience a server with lots of activity and lots of experienced players to ask for help. Just my 5 cents.

You've heard that Rolf wants a PVP only game and thought he'd never make that mistake twice? Well without the FCC, freedom sure looks like it's headed that way.

The idea behind removing enclosure protection rules was stated by RedBaron to be to preventing the walling off of large tracts of land. As I see it removing enclosure protection does not prevent this since players are still free to do this same thing. The only difference is that the GM's will no longer have any concern or participation if these enclosed areas are bashed into, since it will be an allowed aspect of the game. What this really accomplishes is removing the GM's time investment that would otherwise be devoted to this issue as it is at present. This reason was also mentioned before as being the motivation behind this change, which as I see it is the heart of the matter, since these types of enclosures can still be freely built after they are no longer protected by GM enforcement. I think it is rather foolish to believe that anyone will keep valuable items within enclosures after this change comes into effect. No doubt newer players will continue to keep their mediocre horses within these types of enclosures but those who have a bit of concern and common sense will simply put them inside their house when they log off or even leave them hitched to carts outside where they can't be messed with. The people who break into these type of enclosures will be mainly the miserable types who want to bring others down to their level, as they will prove the old adage to be true of wanting companionship there. Or perhaps those indignant ones who challenge the thought that others would dare have the temerity to wall in this land that they want to pass through without impediment. Then no doubt there will be those feuding neighbors who will then have the opportunity to go at it with each other without any disruption from those GM's of a more reasonable nature. Still, if one takes the time to enclose perimeters with high QL walls there will be few willing to take the time to bash them down to merely get at some trees inside or growing farm crops. As it is, on one of my deed perimeters trolls are bashing down fencing a few times a week anyway. I just have to check around the perimeter every day or two to rebuild them. Nothing much will change if someone wants to take an hour to break one down themselves by hand tool bashing and I doubt anyone will be dragging a catapult around to take the faster route to destruction. Initially the pure griefing dementos will get their kicks and play like uncontrolled and undisciplined children, breaking into enclosed areas to do some further destruction but this will loose its allure over time and they will move on to new more thrilling mischief elsewhere. Then things will return to much as they are now, with only the diehard feuding neighbors continuing their fight for supremacy, one over the other. All much ado about nothing and those who enjoy what the game has to offer will continue to be rewarded for their efforts put forth, with perhaps some minor distractions from those deviant types that inhabit the darker recesses of the mind. Happy Trails =Ayes=

This has been suggested to death iirc (i may be imagining things) Seryll textures for weapons But, with the above update, I think it's a great time to suggest it again. If a weapon or piece of armour is rare/supreme/fantastic, it should glow as such while equipped Thoughts?

You should expand the animal breeds a little more. Like adding in ducks that lays eggs for cooking (along with the chickens), sheep for wool, goats for various things, moose for the same thing as a bison or horse ( maybe even mounted antlers for candles or what not. Male deer with antlers that can be made into knives or other things. You should add more variety for the places. Make it to where they are maybe rare to other islands but not other certain islands. For example; a moose is more for mountains and swampy places that has a cold temp to it like Alaska. But you won't see a moose in England or Russia (I think). So it'd be interesting to have for a merchant ship sailing from one island to another selling their goods.

Sorry, I have to agree to disargee...again. All the points you bring up really don't really concern me too much, I guess it's perception and a also that this to me is still a GAME. As I have said nothing is game breaking for me and until it is I'll still have the same opinion. Drama happen mainly here on the forums. Look at the hundreds of people that don't post or never comment. There are 98 replies here, many many of the same people over and over and it has 2200 view and a lot of people don't even read the forums. I guess what im trying to say is... I go out to breakfast and many customers order the same meal. Some people complain about the toast not cooked enough and other think it really not a big deal and eat it just the way it comes. It wont destroy my day. Occasional I don't mind it under toasted. I know everyone love the game and complain cause they care, but to me it's the degree of the changes and what warrants large amounts of complaining. But that's just me.....

Audrel brings up a very good point. The brain dead, over repeated remark of "deed it or lose it" is a crock of bullshite! Have personal witnessed to many times this unpunished griefer method of putting locks on bsb's on someone elses deed. Challenge anyone to provide an intelligent reason this should be allowed on my deed cause after all "DEED IT OR LOSE IT" P.S. And telling me I should put locks on my on deed items doesn't count as an intelligent answer, its on my deed with full protections, shouldn't need to lock it!

The one week excuse is a weak excuse if you think about it. He says it is so there isn't a mass influx of ships with lots of items coming over all at once and crashing the server. What do you think is going to happen the minute the servers are opened to all a week later? That same mass influx will occur, and he still has to deal with a possible crash. He needs to do his job right, and make sure this thing is ready for everyone that wants to come in on day 1. No excuses.

-1 And stop trying to make this a pvp server. This is the 3rd or 4th thread from a pvp player making this suggestion. It's getting old. You want another pvp server say so, but stop trying to make the new server pvp when it has already been announced as pve.

My "greediness" with land is 10 tiles of space between a deed I planted and a deed I inherited that is now no longer protected and will become a grief fest until I chuck out 120 euros to combine them. So tell me about greediness some more. I really do not want to hear it. Rolf decides a long standing rule is unintended and it costs me double, not him. So preach greediness to him. EDIT: I really do not care if this offends anyone or not. Being shafted and paying again for what I have already paid for offends me.

My lawn is not a game. In RL, do you steal your neighbor's stuff? Do you bash down their fences or go into their house to lock their toolboxes? The in RL argument is lame. This is not RL. In RL, I can shoot you for being on my lawn.
  27. 2 points
I realize the reasoning for such, but I worry about the potential for passive aggressive pvp. Anyone with a high level of digging can do a massive amount of damage to an area, enough so that low level digging players can be griefed right out of an area and essentially unable to fix it. Put high quality fence, dig or create 200+ slope to stop bashing of it. Poof. Helpless player.

Seriously, I read all five pages of this thread and it only made me hostile, if I was a mod I'd close this thread. News posts shouldn't contain these kinds of toxic replies. To be honest news threads shouldn't even be able to be replied to, talk about this kind of stuff in gen discussion.

Come on now, name calling, dismissing my points, and telling others to ignore me? If you feel I have a weak position on the matter then it should be very simple the counter the points I make without insulting me. As far as not coping with people in different situations your stance is just as rigid if not more so as you're unwilling to even debate your case and instead respond like this. Not sure why there is this assumption that just because enclosures won't be protected that the GMs will stop caring about people griefing. If anything not having to deal with the enclosure stuff will give them more time to handle other things such as dealing with players actively trying to grief others. As in the news post newbies will receive an item to help them protect their items early on while they are trying to establish themselves. This is a giant help to new players as before they'd either have to carry everything or store it in some unsafe container like an unlocked cart or containers in an unsecure area for awhile before even knowing how to properly secure stuff. It's not like newbies would have an enclosure their first day or even know about enclosures and the rules governing them. The main benefactors of enclosures as the news post states were established players using them to claim large portions of land at no cost.

I WANT to. I can't because I can't expand due to perimeters. And I can't make a new deed because there's not enough space. As it is, it takes hours to run all over the place to take care of crops and animals that are not right on the central deed.

Here is the problem I really have: being forced to wait a week or start a new toon to enter the first day. I have played the game for 5 years now, already had to put up with not being allowed on Release and Pristine, and now this? Why does my being an experienced player have to be a PENALTY? I'm all for making the start easier for new players, but it should not interfere with my gameplay at the same time.

So if in a couple of weeks wen no more protection exist outside of deed, a group of people just for fun can go to any deed and dig a moat around the deed 1 tile outside the perimeter and trow some wall in the bottom and for you this is ok and is not griefing? And of course all the fault is on the owner of the deed, since as per your proposal if he wanted to leave his deed at some point he should have deeded half the damn server to make sure no one can cut his way out. Well lets see how thing end turning around the corner, but I´m unable to see the ligth at the end of the tunnel for now. And to be really honest I find hard to figure someone is so naive to not be able to foresee the upcoming griefing fest, unless of course they see it but say the opposite because they intend to be in the griefer´s side.

Inb4 all un-deeded houses are allowed to be bashed. Sarcasm intended.

There is a vast difference between a rule and a guideline -- 1) Rules are made to be followed and obeyed - not doing so will have reprisals eg 30 mph speed zone -- travel 30 mph or under .. this is a rule. Travelling faster will get you in trouble with the local police/law/sheriff etc if/when you are caught. 2) Guidelines are just simple suggestions to make life easier, or helpful ideas that someone has thought fit to write down for someone else. eg When painting your house, it's a good idea to wear safety goggles to avoid getting paint splashed in the eyes. This is a guideline .. you don't have to stick to it, but it may be in your interest to do it. The FCC were a collection of guildelines to make life on a Freedom server easier for you and everyone else. ...just my 2p worth

Sort-of OK with this. The FCC was an ineffectual non-rule set that didn't really do anything except tricking players into thinking they had some sort of protection in my experience. What bothers me however is the prospect that problems caused by game features not working as intended, or changed without notice, will be considered fair game.

Xanadu So finally some clarifications on the new server! There are some rumors going around that we are implementing something brand new such as 3D caves with Xanadu and that we would force people to move there whilst closing old servers. That is not the case on either parts even though we at least want those caves one day. Neither will it be a hunting server. The main reason for the mega server Xanadu is to show and push what we can do technologically concerning size and player support. We are planning to run a marketing campaign in connection with the release to have a crazy frontiersman event where we invite tons of people to the biggest sandbox MMO landrush in history! We plan on releasing it in about a month but you’ll get a more precise date once we’ve ran some more tests. With those tests we will also be able to know the final size of the server. Before the release we are also going to be launching the new tutorial area. When it comes to connecting the old servers we will wait at least a week after initial release. This is because we need to know that Xanadu can handle the load over time. The concern is that if everyone would rush and ship thousands of items there at the same time, we would have to roll back and destroy the landrush event. We haven’t decided where to connect it to the freedom cluster yet and we will discuss this with you before announcing the implementation. Hopefully we have an ingame voting system done soon so we can run a poll on Pristine and Release regarding whether they want to be connected to Xanadu, and if so, where. What's interesting about this? Apparently the old players don't count as players who can come help celebrate this remarkable "super server". Those tons of people, I dunno where they're coming from. I sure won't be inviting my friends to come play wurm when my character isn't welcome. What's funny? I'll get an email inviting me to be a part of this incredible experience as wurm is growing and inviting me to be a part.... So instead of finding a way to let the older players who've paid the wurm devs salaries for years come be a part of this apparently really cool event. You've told us to create a new account and suck it up? Hmm where'd you learn to do marketing?

Untill we can protect ourselves 100% there should still be some form of help we can get. If someone can still come on my deed that I pay for and still grief me, then what is the reason for having a deed........This is down right stupid if these things are allowed to happen.

The sad thing is, there probably would be an influx of children/childish people, though they are generally not the kind that will pay the bills or stick around.

There is a statement from Enki in this forum that states clearly that the Code of Conduct is no more. Therefore all the rules that we lived under are gone. There are no more Highway rules. While he makes a lot of great suggestions, oh yes those suggestions used to be the Code of Conduct for the game. None of the Code of Conduct nor his suggestions are enforceable by the GM's. So the griefers get to do what they can without any consequences, as there is no recourse on the freedom servers. Since the underlying deeding system exhibits bugs, and containers and locks are not reliable, the recourses that the player community is supposed to use to protect themselves are broken. So we are told to use these broken systems to protect our holdings while anyone can enter my deed and throw a lock on my storage and prevent me access to my materials on my deed which is supposed to be protected. People can shoot 90QL boulders only liftable by charters with 60-70 body strength into the middle of my deed that will take months to decay. There are so many little security holes that have been abused by griefers in this game for years, always before there was an arbitrating body. The game was able to operate regardless of its bugs and issues because ultimately when someone stole or destroyed another's hard work there was someone to arbitrate the conflict. Now there isn't. Not only is there no longer an arbitrator, you have no power to arbitrate for yourself. Before there was the code of conduct that clearly stated what was considered griefing another player in the game. Now there are no more griefers. Just players that are having fun destroying the hard work of others. Taking the joy of the game from those that they affect. Keep in mind that one player abusing the community can affect hundreds of players. is the joy of that one hateful person worth the pain that you cause every player they victimize. I cant believe that you think these are good decisions. Someone wake up please and realize that there is no good in any of these choices. This is not a PVP environment, and if you make it one I can imagine that you are negating a large percentage of your user base.

Speaking as a player here :- I am just gonna point out that the FCC was never a hard set of rules and just a guideline (or moral compass) of how to play "nicely". If someone was insistent upon doing damage to someone elses off deed mine or tree area, they could already do that anyway. The removal of the FCC doesn't make any difference really, because it never actually stopped any untoward actions being done in the first place.

Seems like some convoluted plan to get a tax break by incurring a massive self-inflicted business loss.

This new player/forumer that is becoming really vocal, annoys me so much, that I have already canceled a bunch of posts that would most likely get me temp-banned. Anyone else finds that the new whiteknight with dev d**k on his mouth incredibly annoying ?

Seriously, all you people complaining about landgrabbers that will have an even eaiser time of grabbing land now. You do realize people are forced to buy silver from the shop, thats 160€/1gold (since old chars and thus old gold can't enter the server in te beginning). How many players, really, think about it, how many players will spend a fortune on gold, to deed vast amounts of "premium-spot" land? 10? maybe 20 at max. The server as it stands now is a multitude of independence servers in size... seriously, it'll take 200 players with 1 gold each to deed every valuable spot out there. Rolf wants to earn money, if he would have made it "prem-only-deed" then he would loose out on allot of money. Not that many old-wurm-people want to spend euros on yet another character and then spend even more euros for building a deed. If Rolf takes away the prem part, then he has more chance of old wurmians thinking "Hey, might as well make a freebie and stroll around on the server and deed a bit of land that catches my interest" At least thats the effect it now has on me. I have 2 chars prem all year long (160€/year) (had 3 but the price change made me drop my third), and around 14s/month upkeep total across my deeds. When he said old players wouldnt be able to join in the first week, I was thinking "Damn, do I really have to prem another char just to settle somewhere on Xan" and I was thus, already making up my mind to not spend any extra euros anytime soon. But since this announcement I'm positive again, now I can just make an alt, buy some silver in the shop, and run around to place a small deed for my main to come to when the borders open. Seriously, so much pessimism and blowing stuff way out of proportion.

So I joined Wurm 2 years ago on Deliverance... into an established economy.. and started with 0 skills. Worked for a year and got to 80+ Blacksmithing, Mining and Carpentry and was able to sell items, ore, logs and whatever in order to pay for not only my deed upkeep but have extra to go towards premium. I did this in the midst of tons of other more experienced players and it never once occurred to me that I wouldn't be able to compete. I have since raised a 90 miner, 90 smith and 80 Fine Carp on Pristine and done the same thing in half the time on Pristine. Tell me - exactly where does your argument have any substantiation except for in fear?

Build 10x1 long houses instead of tall walls; they are unbreakable and look is quite similar. You should only reinforce same 10 + 10 tiles if you are afraid of intruders from the outside; since you will have longhouses for perimeter and simple walls for deed, you don't have to worry someone being able to enter so no need to reinforce the inside. Or... just stop worrying so much and just have fun... in the end is just about pixels in a game ffs... you're not keeping your family heirlooms in there.

*POST EDITED BECAUSE I WAS WARNED FOR THE LAST ONE* I never saw so many ungrateful people as in this game. You really should be ashamed of yourself. When changes were made directly, you whined and asked to be warned upfront. Now when you were warned upfront you whine because... well, I still fail to see why. You didn't paid more than anyone who set or expanded a deed before. You just didn't get a discount. Live with it. See the bright side that from now on every deed you set and expand will be half the price.

Very bad move regarding enclosed areas on perimeters. More money for you, less and less advantages for us. In the end, everything was only another way to get more money from players, in an already way too expensive game. Really, you think you are ESO, and you are offering enough for what you demand from us to pay? No protection for perimeters, no moving token without a disband, no one way expanding, 5 "free" perimeter tiles (between 2 deeds, that's 10 tiles never used, be serious, you are completely ridiculous, nobody needs a 10 tiles wide area to travel), no removing deed ratio. All I can say to you is: Shame!
