    Signs will soon have their text engraved in them! All that's left is to properly test it (noone likes client crashes) and make it compatible for other types of signs. PS: this feature is supported only in opengl 3.0 and better. In lower versions, the text won't be visible.

    Happy New Year! Wurm resolution will probably be make more friends and less enemies and try not to get sucked into Chaos drama. Along with getting skills such as Coal-making to 90, Carpentry to 100, and Woodcutting to 95+. I wish everyone to be happier this year than 2013! See you all in 2014!

    in my opinion boats should get accelerated decay (like houses off deed) when the owner does not log in for a certain time.

    I like your speculations - although we're not idiots, we wouldn't just go, "Oh these fences are broken, lets allow you to fly out of them!". That's not what is happening, and I'm sorry if you read it as happening that way. Rolf's post has come about due to the whole flying and jumping thing being _possible_ with the new tech that comes from updating collisions and physics in the game. Flying and jumping isn't a solution to getting stuck in walls, not getting stuck in walls in the first place is the solution to that. The side effect of making these collisions better, is that they would be modeled around the actual model of a wall or what-have-you. This means that if there are existing 300 high dirt walls beside the wall around your deed, someone walking off that tall tile might be able to 'jump' across the bounding box of that wall and into your enclosure. The possibility of this happening has us thinking of what to do about it; do we just let it happen, and implement jumping etc to have cool new mechanics too, also solving the problem GMs have with enclosure rules, or do we hack in some other solutions to make all walls infinitely high still, and not take advantage of the new tech that would be built? We're still in the 'what if' stage, so this thread is opening it up to get people thinking about what might be cool in the future - starting with the possibility of jumping and flying creatures. </clarification> I also like Tuanta's take on jumping - realistic jumping heights tied to stamina, skill and carrying weight, and Radni's idea for walls, add spikes to your wall to damage people jumping over them, haha (thorn hedges, anyone?).

    As most of you know you can fall down into a fence or wall section and become trapped. We have the fix to this already, closing the hole at the top of the fence but it isn't ingame yet. However, it also means that you will be able to move over fences and stone walls if you can get high enough. The good thing about this is that we could give you the possibility to fly in various ways. It is possible that it should be a fairly rare thing in Wurm but attainable to anyone who happens to find such a creature or ability and probably body control based. Such creatures should not be breedable. The downside with flying is that it makes it a lot easier to get into areas and cause trouble especially on PvP servers. That part could be fixed by adding arrows to settlement guards that easily shoot down hostile flying creatures or force them to land outside deed, so it's solvable. Even on freedom servers settlement guards could attack flyers that are not citizens or allies. It will become possible to jump over fences from the current dirt walls and rock sides though, especially if we add some jumping which we might want to. Thirdly, there is a lot of discussion when it comes to the "legal enclosures" rule on the freedom servers. Adding flying would make it impossible to uphold that rule since you wouldn't even have to break a fence in order to land in someones enclosure. The rule already seems to create a lot of situations that end up in a grey zone of who is right or wrong which is undesirable so many on the team want it to go away anyways. We would try to hold this implementation off for as long as possible since obviously you would need preparations but once a decision is made it would probably happen after a month or two. Thoughts? This would have quite an impact on the game but flying and jumping is sort of interesting features. And we need to fix the getting stuck in fences/walls bug eventually.

    +0.5 I'm mostly concerned with the boats I have clogging up my deed. Can't move them despite being a mayor, and honestly a GM shouldn't need be involved for transporting them away. While I wouldn't want to have off-deed boats to decay faster, I agree it's a bit of a problem to have them cluttering up the landscape. What I'd suggest is make boat repairs permission restricted, I.E none other than the owner and friends can repair boats. This will not make boats decay faster but will prevent abandoned boats from sitting around frequented docks. Alternatively, considering what an investment a boat is, allow players to put in upkeep into them.

    I voted no because I think there should be at least some form of hindrance to going into enemy lands. Even then, a reasonably fast horse will outrun tower guards with ease. And it isn't that hard to find one or two others to go around with you too, who said PvP has to be solo - plus you're more likely to get a kill if you have more firepower.

    Well with New Years we all must have some resolutions for the game that we would like to change or add so what is yours? For me it is trying to be more independent and make more of my own bulk goods instead of buying them all. Although i am not sure i can manage that until the crafting update gets put in, lol So what is your Wurm resolution for the new year? Happy New Years everyone!!

    Only deed owner or citizens can build houses on a deed's perimeter. I do not think that rule should change just because you try to pass off a writ to a non deed member and he cant build. Also if you add him as a guest he can in fact build on the house in perimeter, because I just rebuilt a house on perimeter for one of my other deeds I was a guest on. Your solution is already in game use it.

    Voted no, because going in enemy land must be at your own risk, players also spent a lot of time building towers.

    I put this up to see how other people feel about the current system. If you have nothing good to say except attempts to troll, don't post. Sometimes it feels like people vote no because it's suggested by someone in the enemy kingdom. If you don't like the suggestion that's totally fine, but you can at least be constructive about it.

    We've notified the devs of the servers being down. Unfortunately today may have slower response times than normal thanks to it being the New Year, although hopefully the servers will be back up soon. I cannot say whether or not sleep bonus will be rewarded but it normally is for crashes of this nature. Thanks for your patience!

    i'd just like to add... Flying being accessible to anyone would really affect the shipping trade. Lets face it some ships arent really even used at all, they have no use. implement mechanic that utilises these large ships, make them more a part of the game. eg Caravel, make it the only ship that can move animals. People would then buy them/make them more. As I said before, Flying needs to be really high skill needed, so that the shipping trade doesn't fall to the wayside. make Ship QL a speed increase % making shipbuilding more useful. Horse shoes have this mechanic, why not ships? I know this is a little off topic, but you can see what im saying.

    I'll keep this quick... jumping --- jumping deeded fences no. More importantly, jumping undeed fence, would say goodbye to a lot of trial/free to play players. Everyone in wurm likes their privacy. people flying and jumping where ever they like opens many cans or worms...excuse the pun. Flying?, again, this is a low fantasy game like no other, having inaccessible areas is a big thing imo and having flying ridable animals takes it out of that low fantasy vibe. We have many crap mmos that already have that. All in all its not really a mechanic that we really need, when there are others that could be implemented, like building underground walls, doors. Other things like a better combat system. Im loving all the new things that are coming to wurm, but I can only speak for freedom servers, but we like our things protected and if all the work put into making low fences or fences that can be jumped or flown over, is wasted its a bit of a slap in the face. Do we have to then go and build all tall walls around our deed? Lastly, if this flying was implemented please make it a crazy high level skill that has to be reached.

    This was my first impalong, and hence I had no idea what an enormous undertaking it is. Kudos to Battlepants and his crew. The community spirit and generosity shown was an inspiration to all. I had a great time, and met some awesome people. I would like to thank them, all but fear I may leave someone out, so will take the easy route and say a HUGE thank you to all for the wonderful experience

    For those asking for very high levels of gating (40-50 BC), this should go with no longer being able to sell accounts. Making it so only a handful of very old accounts can do this while allowing anyone with money to purchase said accounts would only be making a significant monetary boost for a few players and certainly not any gain for Wurm. People who come into Wurm asking about dragons only to find out they are all mostly dead, will come in asking about flying to find out they need to spend 2k euros or 3 years grinding to participate, does this make sense? Advertise what players can not reasonably get (I know, I know, this is Wurms marketing plan already)? A number of issues need to be fixed to make flying work. PVP issues (which would likely resolve themselves somewhat in time as long as it is fairly even playing field), Deed and legal enclosure issues (which need to be addressed before flying anyway), Immersion issues (should simply be an IN GAME poll to determine the direction the community wants then a decision from Rolf on the direction he wants the game to go), whatever other issues we can come up with. Lets find the problems and fix them before flying. Once the issues are dealt with, then we can talk about flying. Make it so that it works and we can have reasonable gating methods for all players to go through without threat of game breaking issues. Either flying should be available (though difficult) for mostly everyone, or not at all. Lets not do a half job and make it only for a very few thinking that this will somehow prevent the issues that we all know will accompany this. I do rather like the idea of making only a very few, non breedable, creatures that can fly. Make it so that they can not be penned or locked up (will not go in structures or caves), make it so that once a player lands the creature immediately flys off. Make players search around for the opportunity to fly. Make it special, not something we just lock up on deed like misers. The animals should have some sort of limited flight time / or limited to landing only on that persons home deed (or servers starter deed). Limit flying by the rarity of the things that let us fly on, find one and you can fly for a little bit, but we can never OWN flying.

    Just to warn you (and others that have your philosophy), there are many, many undesirable things one can do to your deed, even if all permissions are set to disallow. Locking your Bulk bins/chests is one.

    "PvE is Player vs Environment right? Wouldn't it be simpler to skill up fight skills enough to be able to kill mobs yourself?" If only it was so simple.... You see, the templar can go INTO a cave that is isolated, but it can't move away from it again. This is a broken game mechanic that can't be fixed with smart remarks.

    Interesting concept on flying but and a big but ,it does open up a whole host of grief issues. The thought of someone killing off all my 5 speed horse for their entertainment I can do without. I agree with Garit there is a reason I walled off our deed..Im a grumpy old man now get off my lawn!!

    - Simply remove enclosures - Freedom servers should have a Role option that disallows flying in the zone, this option should be turned on by default (So you cant fly over inactive deeds). - It would be way to easy to explore mountains unless they have a maximum height above waterlevel - Many trader houses don't have roofs, people could fly in and steal the money, needs looking at, i guess this also counts for pvp. Should not be able to fly above/into houses with open roofs. - I do not think the game is ready to allow flying/fence jumping at this very moment, mainly because PVP will be easier and freedom deeds that are locked, are locked for a reason. If people wanted others to fly over and land they would just remove the fence gates. You can also get stuck into housewalls just walking against them, i can reproduce that issue.

    sadly the impalong's coming to an end...but well as must all good things. it was great. a tiring but awsome week. lot of great people, and even if i feel burned out and probly will sleep 3 days now i dont regret it one bit battlepants was incredible. whenever a problem arised (like too many items to smith on on first weekend) he found a solution, adding forges. or moving the priests in smith house so all could get near for sermons. at least a couple priests hit 100 faith thanks to him if im not mistaken. also big thumbs up on the smiths team that remained after the weekend and kept imping all week long, not letting the event die out and allowing some late commers to get there stuff imped and not to mention the silly jokes that kept us going ps, lets not forget vali who nicely got us invaded by monsters to give us a small distration from the mind numbing imping ^^

    I'm sorry but if you can't afford it, then you can't get a deed, no dumbed down versions, make the money to pay for one by making things for other players, there are a great deal of options to get money for yourself. I can easily see this as a buffer deed too, or mainly a space saver. Only bad things can come of this un-needed idea as it will only be abused. -1

    +1 for me. Also, can't you just used mixed grass to make steppe inside the stable? And I'm all about the covered wagon and half-wall thing. There should be added bonus to housing cattle, etc. in stables instead of free-roaming.
