Well what i'm going to post may incur hatred or distrust towards me but i think it's a must to have transparency in my thinking, be a mediator and be politically correct. So, Wurm Online, specifically Release, has a majority of its players from Europe or USA. http://www.freewebs.com/killing-sprees/GMT%20Map.gif By using a simple GMT chart from google, it's shown that ppl living in Central and Eastern Europe must leave their computer on overnight, incurring costs. Well, it's selfish of the US people whom they share a majority of the players in Release with Europe to monopolise the timing of the RoS.(i'm not from US nor Europe so i'm Neutrally Bias) By alternating casts, it'll prevent discontent from both parties and yet allow both parties to benefit more so than before. Delakar doesn't mind having to stay up late(1am-3am + usually an hour late) for RoS once every 4 weeks and he's also willing to cast at 6pm GMT which is 10am for West Coast USA(late enough for ppl to wake up and it's healthy to sleep early based on scientific studies). Sadly us being in the Asia/Australia region would not benefit from the timings which is 4am(GMT+10) in the morning(6pm GMT cast) and 10am(GMT+10) in the 12am GMT cast.(Note that i'm not from Australia but Singapore so it's 2am and 8am for me respectively.) Yet, we're willing to compromise since we're a minority of the Release server. Well of course this is just merely a suggestion, only if both parties accept it then it'll be implemented.A compromise may also be possible. PS Delakar I dont recommend u cast RoS next week and Impalong will end 5 Dec. Base on past records, We'll need atleast a 2 week break between each RoS so it'll be a week after Impalong for the next RoS to be casted theoretically.(Practically, it'll be longer)

Even Though it's not huge on scale, The Hills of Aemasan is a great stepping stone for new player that choose Independence as their server. This developing settlement has everything a new player would need for a kickstart into wurm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEWFsGMb9lk I know for myself I really enjoy watching youtube videos on Wurm Online. I like seeing what people are up to in their adventure or just what people are doing around their deeds. So, I decided to start making my own wurm videos. Even though I may not be the most knowledgeable about the game I still like documenting what I've been doing and where I've been travelling and at the very least let me go back and watch the some of the many wurm memories I've created down the track. A lot of the videos are just day to day snippets of what I've been doing and some are are more informative. Some will have timelapse of adventures I do and some with touch on history of the land in which my deeds reside. Well, here is the playlist of what I've come up with already and I will continue to release more and more as I really like doing them. Milosanx WurmOnline Videos

Since WURM actually really helped me get in better shape in real life, I felt like sharing my little stories, hoping that maybe other people will duplicate it and benefit from it. It all started a few months ago, on one of my previous reincarnations (AryaStark), when I was playing on the Celebration server. I think it was Nectarine who casually mentioned on the global channel the Fitocracy site - a site where fitness and gaming met and where "you can level up in real life". I made myself an account there and start tracking all exercises I was doing, and since, like any gamer wanna-be, I am quite competitive, I soon found myself in the situation where I wanted to do more exercises to get more points, to level up faster, etc. The only problem was the lack of time. And then, during a surface mining project, another idea struck through my head - I queued my three mining actions, stand up and start doing squats, when the timer on my third action was almost on end, I returned to computer, hit the key bind for mine three more times and continued my exercises. And again, and again, and again... And since then, every time when I'm playing from home (because I can't do exercises while at work ), I also exercise while playing WURM. And, to be honest, that no longer makes me feel guilty for wasting my time with computer games; I consider it an investment in my health and my body. Now, like four months later, I can say that I managed to get to the point where in a full weekend gaming day I easily manage to do like 1,500 squats, 1,500 standing calf rises, 1,500 abs and 1,500 jumping jacks (of course, spread over the day, not all at the same time - lol). Not bad for a gaming girl, isn't it? So, what do you say? Will you join me in a common quest of getting in better shape while playing the game we love? And prepare to rock the beaches on summer of 2014 - WURM style!

Adjust local list create a rather mystical/surprising environment where instead of 'got x in local' it becomes 'I see x, going in for the kill' meanwhile player x might not even be aware that he's got someone watching him. It also helps a lot for people that goes out soloing since that player would then have a much bigger chance of actually finding an opponent off-deed without having a group of 8 chasing him due to him entering a players local and it would force people to scout and actually sometimes fight outnumbered. (The idea would either be to completly remove the local list or to change the local area to 40 tiles or so) Delay death tabs Whenever a death tab pops there's usually people locating these players instantly, alot of pvp usually doesn't happen because there will be a third party coming in killing the surviving players, another way of doing this is delaying the death tabs for 10-30 minutes so that the kingdoms involved have some time to heal up before the third party comes Change combat rating while riding a horse Right now you recieve more cr while riding a horse, this makes horses vital and it is rather dull where everyone with a horse is an infantry-archer-cavalry unit in one, if was reduced when horsed there could actually be roles of infantry-archers-cavalry rather then the 3 in 1 pack that there is now (kind of makes sense since sitting on something as unstable as another creature wouldn't make you hit more, just makes you more mobile)

Greetings! So I have been working on a all in one map solution for everyone called Sockmap. I have developed it to be dynamic to the point where you can see updates as they are done without the need to refresh. At the moment you can only place Settlements, Markets, Tar, and Clay with additional details. In the future I will be adding images, order markers, and the ability to interact with markers and chat with others using the map. The details placed are stored but have not been implemented into the marker other than the name and type, that should be updated soon. If you would like to help place markers or give it a view visit http://sockmap.com Upcoming Features: - Ability to mark pathways (By type and size) - Full map zoom (To see view of full map) - Search - Icon Details (Full Description, Photos, Comments) - Workflow for removing icons (Someone adds a pin to edit/remove) - Anti Grief methods (spam detection/twerp handling) - Tunnels, Bridges, Docks.

I cannot continue my road project in Indy until the bridges come out. So now I decided to have a check on my good ol' island in Celebration. I keep paying 5s a month for my Burning Sands island, but havent had any great ideas for it lately. Goal is to keep it looking natural, but amazing without any houses. Another goal is to finally reach 100digging, only 0.273points left. Me and my buddy Dergen cleaned it up today. Before After camelia/lavender island for hedges =) view from the south part Ill keep updating here the progress after new ideas come up ;P [im the only one working on the terraforming]

Do we know everything there is to know in Wurm? Have you seen something strange? Unexplainable? Does no one believe you or dismiss you as telling tall tales? .... Did you try to warn that noob that went missing after departing on a foraging expedition about the tall, large footed, unique creature you swear you saw that one time you were out wandering with your flask of wine? This is the place for you. We must keep track of these events in our own X-Files!!!! Please list any information you have on such events..... You are *NOT* crazy (well... maybe you are...)

Successfully dominated the red dragon, Joemog decides it is time for the followers of Libila to carve a wound on the White Lighters. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A commission for Joemog, the idea is him as Black Lighter with crown of might controlling a red dragon. I love dragon dragons <3 <3 <3 . Discovered some tricks too on making the background trees and army. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Time used: unknown Tool used: - wacom intuos4 large - adobe photoshop - Daz3d - coffee - musicsssss - brushes by Tyler Edlin ( http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCm9pCim4dDN4KJZUILGizgA ) - cobblestone texture by Akinuri Some WIPs Thumbnails! These is how I try to find which pose is best for the drawing. Early sketch. The guy looks cartoony and odd as I try to draw him without aid of 3d modelling... xD Base colors of the scenery, then coloring the dragon. Only the main character and his dragon quiet finished (just missing a bridle) at the moment... that armor took so long but I love how it turns out esp the chestplate. Something looks akward on his right arm but I'm not sure what, it is not the short sword. The short sword is akward by itself but don't think anything can be done of it. Chain bridle done, saddle improved, I think I fixed the right hand. Changed the guy's expression. Now I'm going to move on to start the scenery. Scenery put in place, some minor improvements on character and chain bridle. Still need to put the soldiers in. I like the forest.. feels like home <3 .. I put the armies in. Need rest now before polishing tomorrow . I've watched a few Epic videos to see them used over there, I've seen them used by all kingdoms on chaos. I wanted to post a topic like this but would have the usual suspects jump in and turn it into KvK drama. Yes, Curbs are massively OP imo. From what I believe they were added to the game to be some sort of decorative items, along side with flowerbeds etc. People have found out a beneficial use in PvP for these 'walls'. They need to be nerfed because they encourage the use of 'mine hops'. Rolf removed the use of gatehopping houses while off-deed because players were annoyed they were not getting kills. Mine doors on the other hand could be combated with a single fence so the player has a risky choice to make, hide inside the mine with the chance of being walled in quickly or head for safety on-deed. Curbs stop people from being walled in with it's "decoration", not only that but it also prevents terraforming actions. They pretty much require you to use a catapult or a multiple players to remove a few large rocks on the floor lol. Since (I believe) they are deemed decorations aimed more towards Freedom, they should be able to be destroyed in a small amount of time.

Thank you, Jberg! I really hope others will find it interesting, duplicate it and enjoy the benefits. Because in my case it certainly help. And due to its nature (long action timers when queuing actions), WURM is the first (and only) game which I'm not playing also for fun, but also because it goes so well with exercising and because, indirectly, it helps me have a better health and a more toned body.

It's been a while, but I can give a little perspective on land bridges. Having built several bridges that bridged depths of more than 300 slope. Up to 345 depth it's not much of a problem to flat raise a road. It requires time, skill and a lot of dirt of course but it's doable. The problem with bridging to another server is that there is a ocean shelf once you get away from the land masses. Considering that you can target the bottom of the ocean up to maybe 500 depth and after that you can't even select the bottom to judge depth you quickly run into problems. You can't flat raise at those depths, which means that you have to pour dirt until it gets up to the 300 dept range. The problem with that is that once dirt reaches a slope of 20 it rolls down hill so that to build a flat hill with a height of 40 you have to fill 4 squares to 40 and you have to fill all 12 points around that hill to a depth of 20 requiring almost 500 dirt. If you raise that hill to 60 you have to raise the 4 corners to 60, ie 240 dirt, the 12 outside points to 40, ie 480, and the 20 points around them up to 20, ie 400 dirt, for a total of over 1k dirt. But as you continue deeper the amount of dirt you need goes up exponentially. Soon it takes hundreds of thousands of dirts to just get the ground up to the point where you can flat raise. When we attempted to create an interserver land bridge between Wild and JK, pre wurmagedon around 2008, we found that we couldn't create an acceptable slope on the wild side once we got to the ocean drop off. JK would have found the same thing, but there was a lot more ground to cover to get to the drop off, on Wild it was pretty close to the shore line. We had to abandon the attempt. Things may have changed since that time, I haven't looked at how deep the oceans near the borders are, but I have the hunch the depth is beyond what you could fill even if you stripped the entire continent.

Tbh if you have a set of alts all you have to do is keep rotating them out and back into the kingdom, and you would always have an alt that can't be kicked, when that alt's two weeks expire, just convert him back and then rinse and repeat with another character, always rotating the same set of characters through. This is extreme metagameing at it's worst, and until a gameplay fix is done people will keep abusing this system to cause immense destruction. Like I said... REMOVE the restriction that keeps leadership from kicking a player out, and just don't reset the join timer. Also, if a player has been kicked out of a kingdom, leadership can set it so that that player can never be converted to the enemy kingdom again by other kingdom players, only by the leadership itself. This also further restricts alts, even if they have an alt in the kingdom they can't keep recycling the same alts through the kingdom over and over. There should also bee a covert log so that leadership can actually see who is adding who. This is a PMK, and people put an immense amount of work into getting the required resources to form one, and get the 40 players required to establish it. It is downright insulting that there are mechanics left in place to allow metagameing alts free reign in such an environment. I really don't see any difference here between the issues we had earlier on chaos when two kingdoms were exchanging captures for champ points. This issue is metagameing pure and simple, not PvP and not just simply spying. It is using the mechanics that are unnecessary and unneeded and only serve to greatly hinder the operation of a PMK.
  31. 1 point
That convert timer is just idiotic, PMK Leaders cant even kick ppl before timer has passed, 2 weeks that is. We got some spies going on rampage converting bunch of griefers and we cant do anything about it! It must be changed immediately. For once would be nice to actually fix whats broken instead of mindless nerf runs

Moved to Toolbelt. Good luck on your project!

Solution to this would be to not allow the reinforcing to be placed on a slope greater than 20.

Hello Sizewell, I am sorry that it is not on a good time zone for you, for me it is 5 AM when the cast is planned, which means I would have to wake up specifically for the event, I would love to make it so people who are offline still benefit from the cast but that's not my call unfortunately. =( I would love to be able to pick a time that no-one has a hard time attending, it's quite hard with people from all over the world and different time zones, it's quite hard to pick one where it's in the "middle" of everyone. Please feel free to discuss the time you might prefer and likewise for other people. As Shads says the cast has been delayed again due to the recent 5 hours of sleep bonus gain, I find it hard to burn it all so fast, sometimes I get 5 hours bonus ontop of 5 hours bonus I haven't been able to use yet hehe. I am tempted to delay it for 1 month but I believe pushing it back another two weeks would be best for the most people to benefit from it as possible, though it seemingly is hard to find the right time to cast it. I think two weeks delay should hopefully be fine, we can push it back a month after that if crashes (the free bonus that comes with them) keep affecting the point of casting. =) Thankyou all for your patience, and I am very sorry about the delays and messing around. (Also for not being around much to check things) With any luck we will be able to cast it on the new scheduled date of : 7th of December.

I"m guessing Jacob reduced the file detail to shrink the sizes. Those high detail 5 mb png's kill bandwidth and slows download times. This has always been a problem with maps. Can we cache them and have a load screen explain it will only be slow the first time loading (assuming the user doesn't clear web browser cache for Sockmap)? So how can we store those large background png's cleint side? Web Storage...5 mb is not big enough, WebSQL...doesn't work with Firefox (from what I understand Mozilla doesn't want to support it anymore), IndexDB...I not really familiar with this. Also with the data bases you have to store big string type blobs and then convert them back to png's. Maybe some sort of hybrid offline-online caching system. http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/offline/storage/ https://hacks.mozilla.org/2012/02/storing-images-and-files-in-indexeddb/

To ask other people not to do something fun because you want your name to be associated with that fun is, frankly, extremely selfish. I prefer to be creative because it's enjoyable, and because it brings joy to others too. What if Willow turned around and said "I don't want anyone else to do impalongs any more" - would you expect everyone to stop doing these community events?

This is a good question reguarding works of art, writings, etc. As for your idea of ownership for copying the deal or no deal game from TV, and using it in wurm.. somehow giving you 'ownership' of it... actually i'm just going to go back to what i've said before. . . get over yourself

If anyone is planning to give this a shot, I'd recommend starting at the boarder side. If that fails, there's no reason to build out from existing land.

Thanks for the response. That is somewhat reassuring then. We shall see how it all works out over time as mapping the servers is a process that covers years of timelines and needs dedication within that future frame of reference; otherwise as you have seen once the person that dedicated themselves to the task decides to abandon it the situation then devolves into a static state, which is why I am always leery of some new lesser known individual deciding they are up to the task long term. This is not to say I would ever consider doing it myself, just that I understand the implications in terms of commitment that are involved. Time will tell..... =Ayes=

Most of the things I'll say will just make other people mad. But I'd be lying if I had different. So... 1) It's not streamlined for modern casual gamers I play it because it doesn't go out of its way to hold my hand. This is the biggest reason. Most of the features they develop in the most mainstream games are predominantly casual-focused and turn me off and push me away into less popular games. It's principally about the fact the casual gamers have less time to play and usually prefer linear games as opposed to non-linear games because they're easier to get into. Linear games tell you where to go and mostly what to do. Non-linear games, by comparison, throw you into the wild and don't tell you much where to go or what to do, but I prefer it that way. And this tendency to tell players what to do and where to go holds true for other things too, like skill or class progression. Linear games are also frequently more simplified and so even when you can choose your own path it's not nearly as interesting. They're hamstrung by being casual-focused. At the end of the day, casuals just don't have enough time to spend on the game, so the game has to be quick to get into and play. 2) Players create most of the content I love wild forests and animals and seas, but players reshaping the land makes it more interesting. Developing content professionally is extremely expensive, whereas giving players a base world to build on is much cheaper. The fun isn't so much in the bulk of the content as it's in the TYPE of content. Player-driven games let YOU decide what your house looks like and where your house is and where the roads are and what the world will principally be. 3) It reminds me of UO 2 (ok... UO 1), except there's no insta-travel via mark/recall Ultima Online was ahead of its time, by far. It made an impression on me in 1999 when I played it. It was skill-based and its world was less scripted. In other games at the time, like Everquest, everything was scripted. In UO, at least initially, the animals actually hunted each other and there was a sort of quasi-ecosystem. And because players could build houses and setup merchants, it gave an additional feeling things weren't scripted. There were also quests in UO that were randomly-generated and placed on the bulletin boards in the cities. You could hire NPCs and there were random treasure maps (though staticly placed). In general, UO felt less like it was a script and more like it was a world. I realize many players prefer scripted worlds because non-scripted worlds tend to be more random and less rewarding, but I've always felt non-scripted worlds are more like breathing worlds than the scripted ones. While it's true the non-scripted worlds are more random and not quite as rewarding in terms of their quality, they're for me a baby step towards virtual worlds that create themselves and don't need us parenting them. 4) Consequences When I die, I like my stuff is on my corpse. Just yesterday I almost lost the stuff I had. If I hadn't recovered, I would have lost the key to my chest and would have had to start over. I've started over more than one time in Wurm Online, so it's not unfamiliar. Even though I sometimes get mad at myself when I die, I wouldn't want it different. I've played many games where there're practically no consequences and have had the occasion to see what I like and don't like. I'm confident danger and harsh consequences mean a lot to me. Being able to fail seems more like a feature in some games, unfortunately. Modern developers don't believe in negative consequences in game design. I don't know exactly how this happened, but I suspect a stuffed shirt filled the office and told em what the experts are saying in the pscyhology field. Personally, I think it's overcontrolling and stale and too restrictive. I do not get the same rush of adrenaline when I play the safe games. There needs to be actual risk and consequences for that. Nonetheless, nothing I say is going to stop these brickheads from making more games that're too safe. WWWWWWWWWWWW Bottom line, nothing I say can make my words less painful to read. I'm a very bitter and uptight gamer who looks for a rush when he plays and he loves to get pounded into the ground, being like a survivor. Nothing or very little about me is likeable. Yet I have to be honest and not lie with a post like this. Anymore it feels like I can't say what I like in games because if I do I'll have to be sent to an AA meeting where I have to say "I like having a rush in games. My name is Lightonfoot. I need help." It just seems like in most of the games I play I'm a minority. Even in Wurm Online I feel like a minority, even though I shouldn't. If someoen doesn't like Wurm Online then they shouldn't be playing here. Yet it feels like most players want WoW or something else. Maybe this has to do with the fact so many new players complain about XYZ and it always ******** me off. I was a new player last year, not 10 years ago. I didn't complain and scream about things. I LOVED IT. Why do I have to be a minority? I'm not twisting the truth, either. I remember very clearly enjoying the crap out of this game. Wurm Online was sexxxy.

I play Wurm because: The majority of the game is open to you right from the start. You can see history reflected in the environment and abandoned places. Building my first shack will always be one of my proudest moments in Wurm. Grinding is done to improve what you've got, not to get around artificial barriers (mostly). It has a uniquely awesome community. It's somewhat niche so I can pretended I'm just better than other people. Forum PvP is lethal. In my experience devs and other staff are open and approachable, and not some distant mysterious entity. I'm not forced to be a medieval psychopath, and kill 100 of [X] everyday so I can gain levels (I choose to do it anyway). Screwing around and building gardens and weird houses is seen as a legitimate play style (At least on freedom).

I play because of the community. Unlike Runescape, the grind actually feels like its kindof worth it because it helps you to contribute to society. But still, if there was less grind I would be happy.

I used to play because I used to enjoy building things but the last year or more I've simply played because Ive built up sucha great bunch of friends and have such a good sense of community with my Wild/Chaos Kingdom (MR) that I find myself playing just to hang out with these awesome people and chat with them and we all have fun.

Hold on, will this update affect the existing pmks? The Kingdom of Sol on epic elevation is well over 20 players, but no where near 40 yet. The last i check we had to maintain an active 15+ player base or else the pmk would disband. Edit: Not to bash you rolf, but do you even know how hard it is to recruit / maintain a player base for a PMK? Getting 15 guys isn't easy. Its not easy to convince people to join something that hasn't been establish. If you make it 40+ i doubt we'll see another new PMK for sometime.
