This has to be one of the stupid mechanics in wurm. You cannot simply go out hunting on a horse without having a 50/50 chance that a creature you have targeted goes for your horse FIRST. WTF IS THE DEAL WITH THAT? It serves no purpose but to PISS OFF those that are hunting. I go out to enjoy my time in wurm but all i get is ###### RAGE FROM HUNTING. My heart hpysically cant take this anymore by how much ###### rage i get when each and every creature i target decides to target my horse instead, again and again and again and agina AND AGINA AND AIGINA AND AGINA AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. i cut my time in wurm short because of how fuckign annoying stupiud mechanic this is and i just cannot phsyically stand this big fu to the hunter. ###### this game mechanic

Love to see the taunt skill numbers for these folks who think that is an acceptable solution. Granted I only have 5 taunt but my experience with it is the timer is too long and success is very low. In every case where I tried to taunt the mob off the horse it resulted in a dead horse. On top of its undependable nature is how difficult it is to grind taunt skill. The solution most players actually use is a meta-game gimmick - don't target anything, watch combat, and if the mob doesn't target you run away because its likely targeting your horse. The simple fact that most players are making use of this targeting gimmick is good evidence that players don't like horse targeting. If players actually wanted this hardship and enjoyed the challenge they would be asking for better ways to train taunt, buffs to barding (a noob in dragon scale will still die to spider because armor doesn't make up substantial portion of CR.), better ways to train your horse for combat (You think knights use farm horses to take into battle?). Improving combat should be thinks like: mobs that attack in groups trying to flank or attack with ranged, goblins with stealth and bows, Spiders can spit webs which knock off mount/immobilise/blind, trolls that can stealth and through big boulders, bears with crazy fast charge attacks that knock you off mount/stun, scorps with long range poison attack that temporarily paralyzes (fall off horse), croc with a fast charge attack and tail whipping action to knock you and horse to ground/stun.

The notoriety system in place on the Serenity and Desertion servers works like this: When a citizen loses reputation for some reason, such as killing another player, village notoriety goes up by the same amount. When a citizen becomes hunted the first time, village notoriety goes up by 10. Notoriety should go down by 1 approximately every 2 hours, so the village will lose a bit more than 10 notoriety per day. Only villages with notoriety above a certain limit (currently 50) can be subject to war declarations. So unless your citizens have done offensive things your village is safe from village wars. Simply avoiding griefers is usually the best tactic for this. Max amount of notoriety is currently 150.

I don't understand some people here saying super drama things like "ohhh I can't even hunt anymoorreee.. I lose 20 horses a day and would get more weapon skill just killing them on deed anywayyy..." That's really not accurate, like.. i'm sorry lol, but that's ######, lmao... If your horse is tamed and you don't target creatures before you go up to them, your horse can get attacked, sure.. but untamed horses? It's really not that bad, and it's so easy to get away from almost all creatures (yes Valrei mobs are tougher, but it's the same thing vs. players anyways) as long as you have some horse gear/barding on.

How will people be able to report bugs regarding it when it's unsure how it's supposed to work? Most of the counters that measure player naugthiness have been seriously bugged when implemented.

I would like to see a system that would make creatures re-target after each encounter so if it did target your horse you could run off and come back to it having the chance to target you instead. When i see people saying they hardly ever get a creature targeting there horse i feel they dont get out much, for me they target it around 50% of the time and i dont know if that just because half the mobs are starving or my bad luck. If this system must stay in place we should have more efficient barding. I know when my horse gets hit by a troll or stronger its over for my horse even with barding. The cats in the game i let target the horse since i can kill them fast enough before they do damage. Which leads me to another thing, why is it that wild cats and mountain lions give double the weapon skill than other mobs harder than them? A troll will give me a .04 gain in the whole fight and the cat will give me .06-.08. I hunt them more for skill gain than other mobs but those target my horse by far the most. Also, when the game was changed to have mobs target horses i didnt see anyone happy about that, why make a game change that pisses off everyone? Oh and im sure i will get those few that say they love it but im sure you dont get out much to experience it. Im not saying take it away i just want more ways to deal with it.

I recognize some people enjoy the extra challenge of opponents targeting their house. I don't and others apparently agree. Its too bad Wurm refuses to find solutions that let both parties have it there way. As an example, create an enchant you can put on cloth barding which prevents mobs from targeting the horse. This wouldn't work with tower guards, deed guards, or against tamed pets (basically can't use it in pvp to protect your mount).

This started out as a thread about a possible festival grounds - but I'm so personally defeated by the level of bullying, selfishness and manipulation that I see players exhibit toward one another that I have decided I am no longer interested in any kind of "community service" project. Community service and even silver out of pocket for what? Helping potential sociopaths and emotinoally distrubed ppl continue to use a game environment to exhibit deviant personality traits on each other? No thanks! (I swear students in Psychology could do their master's thesis on this place and find examples of just about every deviant or "borderline" personality disorder in the books!) I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but I have never seen such a collection of narcissistic, selfish bullies in one place, in my life. If I didn't enjoy the mechanics of the game so much and have a few good friends that thankfully are outside this group I would probably quit completely. At any rate, if anyone is interested, I will be selling what's left of the Poco deed - it doesn't have much of value at this point as all the walls have been torn down and the buildings destroyed as part of the plans to set up the festival grounds site. However, it does have one thing going for it - if you can stand it - and that's its location. It is literally steps away from SS and Spawn. Please PM me if you're interested in trading for the deed - doesn't have to even be silver - will entertain offers of trade in goods/materials as well. Ari (Siranda on Release) (MY apologies for the seemingly abrupt change of heart - but its actually been building for a long while - almost since the day I first logged in - but I was hoping that a community project would help build some commraderie and a spirit of fun cooperation amongst the locals....but then I always have been an idiot idealist. )

I get the feeling that Golden Valley's ineffectiveness was caused by a lack of a proper time limit, and a lack of willingness to destroy what shouldn't have been permanent in the first place. If I ever made an academy - I'd build it in the remote wilderness, far from the game's original spawn, while giving new players a maximum of one week under the safety of my deed before ejecting them into the real world of Wurm. New players would get a taste of village life, a pre-built on deed library with signs containing links to important tutorials, the harsh reality of Wurm's dangerous environments and the wonderment of discovering new homes in the wilderness after being evicted; Hopefully while being able to fend for themselves in the process thanks to having time to gather the skills/resources/equipment needed to survive. Something that should've existed in the first place. Once ejected, I'll destroy anything they didn't take with them, to make room for the next newbie to do the same. If a lack of wilderness/mining becomes an issue due to over-development of the newbies in the surrounding wilderness outside of the deed - who cares? The deed will be a throwaway, nobody said I couldn't just move to a new location. A fixed location spawn is a detriment. Of course, given how long it takes to build anything of substance in this game, and the monetary/time cost of buying and maintaining such a project - I'm not in any hurry to create this. Even if I did, it'd eventually fizzle out whenever I get bored or busy. Something like this would require daily dedication. So why doesn't it already exist, without needing the help of dedicated individuals? Ah, right, a poorly implemented newbie island existed in the past, left a poor taste in the mouths of the veterans and now everybody boos and hisses whenever it's brought up again. Bring back Golden Valley. Do it properly this time.

The taunting system works pretty well as is, I have noticed for the most part that horses generally get ignored by mobs 90% of the time, that 10% whilst slightly irritating it keeps you on your toes. A quick taunt if you are paying attention and most mobs will turn towards you, even at low taunting skill. The mechanic works fine as it is, so long as you are paying attention and to be perfectly honest, considering the bonus you have being on a horse, there should be some risk involved for the benefit of using a mount.

Mobs attacking horses are probably in top 5 issues that I despise about Wurm. I'd rather see the mob knock me off my horse. Here are some other consequences that would be better: brief blind me, briefly reduce speed/freeze my movement, briefly reduce CR. I'm pretty sure you can't get back on a horse if something is fighting you. lol, if we changed weapons and armor so you had a 50% that it would get destroyed every fight I wonder what folks would do.

Reading some stuff on the first page (sorry didn't read the other 2) i remembered a sort of a bug that happens sometimes. Once i entered a cave, to check it out, it was full of trolls and lava fiends, so i turned around to get out before getting in combat, when i did so, i got to close to a wall, and was dismounted, the horse gut stuck, the mobs came after me and i ran out of the cave. When i came back for my horse it was dead. This is the kind of thing that shouldn't happen. If you're dismounted the horse should be neutral again. Specially with bugs like these. That said, this incident and another one with 2 hellhounds ambushing me when i was already at less than 50% after killing a troll, then killing me on horseback, and then finishing off the horse. Where the two only incidents where i lost horses to critter attacks.

Theres a difference between staying alert and getting pissed off, and I think this mechanic crosses the boundaries sometimes. The chance should at least be lowered if anything. I don't think I've owned a single horse longer than a week because of this, most of them don't even make it past Mature.
  35. 1 point
Why should'nt they, sometimes, go after the horse? Also, it keeps you alert.

If you want to get into PvP I'd take up this offer, there's good activity on Elevation at the moment, and KoS are having a fair share of it and also have been raiding a few times. Good chance to learn the game/PvP.

Okay, I read the first few pages and facepalmed. Nosfire seems to think the only way to raid anyone is to be in their kingdom, and fighting them on a equal ground. You joined the server knowing your penalties, and you exploited them to your ability, if War Dec's had been worked on, and well... actually worked. We would have pile drived your deed into the dust, and left you with nothing to play with. Also, trust me, out of those 70-80 Peak times, I wouldn't be shocked to hear it was just your guys alts, or something moving around. You did not play a outlaw, you played a prick. You drove newer players out of the game without a care in the world, you were a hinderance to a expanding community, and so was your crew. Playing a outlaw means going out and killing some peeps occasionally because you feel the itch to do it, not being a full on raider because the for the 'luls' especially when you have no beef with newer players but still decide to hurt them. Being a prick is also housing the enemy, and making abuse of these mechanics. You have no leg to stand on when you yourself notice how 'far' you went with it, and even though it might be a PvP server, not only did you exploit unintended 'features'. You drove away money (the newbies), and then laughed about it. The No Kingdom thing was a beautiful idea. I would have personally gone No Kingdom just to feel the taste, I'm awfully adventerous (can't spell.) and wouldn't mind dieing 500 times just to see some beautiful war deeds while I roamed around. Keep the No Kingdom, and maybe add a deed limit to non-kingdom deeds, like a small 15x15 deed or something of those lines, simply so the no kingdomer has a place to refuge. Consider it a true outlaw homestead. ... Make it happen Please. --- TL;DR Nosfire wants to nerf Home server because he cant kill anyone with it on. --- TL;DR NO KINGDOM2GOOD, plzplzplzplzplzplzplz

I'd rather have full unrestricted PvP than a broken reputation/war system where the ones who figures out how to exploit the system wins.

I have changed the original post after discussion with the GM team and some consideration. We don't want to encourage this behavior but prevent it. Ending up in no kingdom could be interesting, but being banned seldom is. Hopefully one day we come up with a better solution but for now this is what we go with.

First of all, I expect everyone to have a different interpretation of my gamemasterpiece. In my artwork I tried to deal with social issues and make social statements. For example note how the spider is wearing a hat which represents its supremacy in number over other creatures, and its menacing face. Also note the archer who shows distrust at our innocent female adventurer of Wurm, though the archer is much smaller than our great female adventurer of Wurm signifying that she is better than him and shouldnt rise to his taunts and trolling attempts. Also note how she keeps her cat, steve, as a companion, a reference to counter-elitism where you dont need a champion pet to have a good time. Also note the ominous bush and trees signifying Wurm's dynamic and unforgiving environment. Also note the strange lonely weed signifying nomadic life in Wurm. The sun has no artistic significance aside from that it is the sun.

I'm fortunate enough to have my dream job and I still love it despite the fact that I'm earning next to nothing at the moment (though much of that is thanks to the issues currently going on out here in Egypt at the moment). When I was 6 I saw a program on TV about the raising of some old ship wreck and told my mum I wanted to be a marine archeologist so I could see the pretty fishes. She pointed out that being a marine biologist WAS looking at the pretty fishes. That stuck with me and I ended up reading Marine Biology with Oceanography at University. I graduated just as the recession hit so any job in the field had a number of applicants with x numbers of years of experience over me. I ended up temping in Customer Services for Ordnance Survey (the British Mapping Agency) which I LOVED. However as the work dried up, my contract wasn't renewed as I was the only temp in the department. Pity as I was the most efficient worker in the department - hey ho. Part of me had already considered SCUBA Instructing, but the 'sensible' voice on my shoulder said "get a proper career, it's just a joke job for lazy people". I then moved up to London for two years for a girlfriend and because it's the only place one could reliably find work. Loooong story short, the relationship ended and I then realised how much I hated working in an office (good company to be working for, don't get me wrong, I learned a lot). I decided to quit and then try and work out what to do. I figured - what the hell, SCUBA it is. did my Rescue Diver course in a quarry in February 2012, flew out to Tenerife to complete my Divemaster the following weekend and spent 2 months as an intern out there. Got back to London and realised how much I hated living in London and 3 months later I flew out here to Egypt to complete my instructor training. I've now been out here for just over a year and it's the best decision I ever made. What I find VERY interesting about this experience though is how I and others perceive the same events. In particular the time that I quit my job in London then moved out of the country. I'll be one of the first to say that I generally take a path of little resistance, I let things happen rather than go out and make things happen. My friends have said to me how much they admire the drive and motivation I must have had to quit my job before having a plan, and then do something as audacious as leaving the country and aim for a career with little potential for security. To me though it WAS the path of least resistance. It all just seemed right. I loved every moment. Those two months in Tenerife were a revelation. I enjoyed getting up earlier and getting back later than I had in London (and again, those who know me KNOW I'm not a morning person ) - I enjoyed the half hour walk to and from work. I loved being busy (work-wise). I got back to London and hid in my flat for 3 days, I couldn't hack being somewhere so busy (so many people rushing around everywhere all the time). As you said, if you're in the right job, you'd do it for free. I have caught myself laughing underwater while guiding divers as I realise I'm being paid to be there at that very moment. Good luck in your endeavors wherever they may take you
