This whole thread is dumb. Common sense should tell you we are all wurmians sitting behind a keyboard. If you need a national label for something don't use it. The justification of the Chinese comment is lame. There are many types that counterfeit. Labeling it as Chinese is unnecessary and derogatory. It is meant to make the Chinese type of counterfeiter stand apart from other types. How are they different? Because they look different? They are all criminals. So please stop. We are all wurmians. We shouldn't need nationalities other than to figure out time zones for trading. To both sides, there is no need to offend and there is no need to be offended. If someone is acting like a turd, ignore them. If someone is offended by what you typed, try to put yourself in their shoes and see if you'd be offended. If the answer is yes, don't do it again. Is it really this hard for people to just act like they have some sense?

Maybe a possible solution could be that aswell as burying corpses, we could cremate them. Say you activate your steel and flint then right click on a corpse and select 'burn', then it uses a kindling and sets the corpse on fire. Then the corpse takes damage over time as it burns, dissapearing within an hour or so. That way you could still dispose of corpses even if they're on rock, without having to lug them to a dirt tile to bury them.

Everything is working correctly for me, even when there are writs, floors, roofs and walls on the map - when I click add/delete button every slope is going up or down by the inputed value. Edit: Palisade - imported to the program thanks to Wurm art director Wox, it still have texturing errors (smaller than hedges, but still very visible), but I have decided to add it to the program.

Hordern, First of all thank you for your explanations. Now please let me see if I get them right. So... 1. Pretty much, the mentioned rule set are still in place and are representing the most recent version of them. 2. However, they are not enforced ad litteram, but they are subject of personal interpretation of GMs / CMs, who may choose to bypass some (minor) breakings of the rules as they are listed. 3. Generally, the use of bad / strong language is allowed, as long as it is not directed to a specific player. So something like "F**k! I died." is not a banable offense, and by reporting it I only waste my and GMs time. 4. The only cases when a report is needed is when that language is directed toward a certain player like "F**k you, John! You're a f**king ret**d!". 5. The only way for me to avoid seeing this kind of bad language is to just ignore all persons using it (probably 1/4 of the server) or shut down completely the public chats. Correct or not? Once again thank you a lot for taking your time to answer my question. Cheers, Alex

I believe this open letter asking for rule clarifications technically breaks the forum rules, as it's stated in them that matters like these should be taken up with moderators

Hi, Here are my ideas: - if can't avoid the price increase, do it - for return, give people some trader items or extras : sleeping powder is a good start, but there can be better valued - this cost no more just a database entry but gains the overall acceptance of the increases and maybe bring some people back like: - prem subscription types: 8s : 1 month + no extras, 16s : 2 months + sleeping powders, 30s : 4 months + something valued 5s, ??s : 6 months + something valued 10s (like a settlement form or merchant contract), ??s : 1 year + 50s value item (like a transmutation rod or a trader contract) - maybe for every half year the subscription pre-paid, the player can get 2 month premium time for his alt (so 2 months for half year subscription, 4 months for one year subscription) I don't know how this would effect on the game economy but this will result a more stable player base due to the benefits of longer subscription periods.

yes as title says... allow us to buy bartender from trader for mybe 5s.... so we can place it in our deeds, and new recruted players can use it first 24h of gameplay.... i think this will be nice deco for deeds and also attract more players to join our villages....

Pretty simple.. Elevation was the server least responsible for the animal hoarding and lag issues the patch was for. Right now only a very large deed can keep a decent stock of horses, and it's still only barely enough to keep the fighters mounted. For a player on their own deed or off-deed, it's very inefficient to keep animals anymore. I live off-deed and can't keep more than 8-9 non-aggro creatures around me before they randomly start insta-dying. It'd be nice if they at least got diseased first so I could separate them more and try to solve the problem, but the way it is now is really unfair to a lone player. I think the ratio should be removed for elevation, or nearly doubled. It's a pretty low-pop server anyway, I think it can take the load just as fine as it used to. If anything, animal husbandry needs to be rebalanced with the ratios in mind, then, because at ~45 skill the amount of skill I can get per day off grooming just 10 animals is really limited. A solo player could not compete with a village's breeder. It's just a sloppy fix all around, and has created more problems and unbalance than it solved.

Here I find out anyone can lock something not belonging to them on Freedom. Some guy put his stuff in cart thinking it was someone he knew then finds out after he locks the cart it's someone else's and now all items in the cart are locked and cannot be accessed. If the person was not allowed to lock the cart he DID NOT OWN in the first place none of that would have happened at all. Also this really sounds like a another way to grief anyone at all just run around locking things you do not own. I don't know how many items this applies too, but it shouldn't be allowed in the first place IMHO. If that cannot be changed then allow players to remove locks they place from anything. Sure its not happening in major amounts, but it sounds like a major PITA for a player to deal with.

I think it's not going to work because: 1. You will skill up hella fast (as you said, like epic) 2. Theres no killing, no templars, no reason to go out do something, no guard towers, no FS, no weaponsmiths needed, no armoursmiths needed (and dont tell me for Dueling or Sparring because thats a joke) 3. No market, because everything is so easily made and there's no real challange to the game. 4. We aren't playing minecraft where you can just make it daylight all the time or cheat yourself XP. This is Wurm. It shouldn't be that easy, i think its a waste of server resources and developement time.

A land without danger would kill off the need for deeds, players would just fence off land with 1tile gatehouses to make it an legal enclosure. With out the silver use for placing and tax for deeds the server would make next to nothing. Along with since a level 4 carpenter character can mak a 1tile house and theres no limit to how long a fence can be. So the need to go paid is cut drastically. And seeing as you wont need to protect yourself theres no need for fighting over 20, or weapon or armour smithing skills over 20, seeing as you can kill a horse/bull naked. Without any danger you get bored, with out any risk you get bored. Just staring at the screen out in the wilderness without having to look over your shoulder gets boring. Why open a server that will last a few months with next to no profit for the host? Sure, there maybe 200players on that server for a month or two. But once your establish you'll get bored and move on. Since theres no dangers, And it only takes about a week to get yourself a fully self supporting area built up. What will you do after that? Skills are easy enough work on one for 30-40hours and it'll be 70. And seeing theres 720hours in a month. Even the most casual player could have 2skills at lvl70 before the end of their first month. I can go on for days why this idea would not work. Risk free games are going out of style. Why should Rolf wast man power and funds on a dying game play?

You'd be surprised how many people this would annoy if traps did effect mobs (people would send pets in to take out traps before Raiding) It takes a long time to make a decent trap, and its wasted if animals walk around setting them off. A specific Mob trap that only effects PvE would be a good addition.
  22. 1 point
I really don't know about that. But if it doesn't increase skill gain, what is it increasing? Update: The wiki says nothing about body affinities, but it does say that the fighting affinity is useless except for below 20 skill and only on a practice dummy. It also tells you all the rules to gather affinities, so the OP would need that info: http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Affinity .

1 - We always try and keep all posted rule sets up to date. 2 - We try and keep all rules easily black and white and enforce them, however, we do give a smidge of leniency depending on how chat is rolling t the time. I'm guessing you're mostly referring to rule 3. Most likely the inclusion of the word 'obscene' in that rule. Again, we try and stick to context. 'F* I died' is OK, wile saying 'I'm going to F* that troll that killed me' implies something more obscene or sexualy explicit. 3 - Correct. 4 - More or less, yes. 5 - As Seara has mentioned, you can keep your language filter on, and add words you don't wish to see to the appropriate file (Wurm directory > Players > Player name > Words.dat ). Chat moderation is a tricky business and how we respond to a certain situation is not just dependant on the words used, but also how busy chat is, the people involved, how people are reacting etc etc, Sometimes one method of moderating will calm chat, and in other circumstances, doing the same things for the same line could make chat go crazy. A moderators role is to interpret what's going on, and take the most appropriate action given the circumstances to ensure chat settles back as quickly as possible. This can be a very tough and thankless job but one I reckon we do pretty well on the whole.

cool, we can place first objects moving in Wurmian's eyes height is nice - placing fountain has some aiming problem, it not land under cursor, but like 1 tile southwest mostly, but sometimes even 7 tiles SW, it is hard to delete it then EDIT: seems it not happen from begining, but after some designer work, cursor coords may gain some random offset, this time it is like 1 and half tile to west, I not yet discovered, where and when this offset was born EDIT2: load from file for example can produce nice offset for object functions, while other functions (walls, floors, ground, evelation) are fine, only cursor for objects has offset - moving writ (in older version too) - while outer walls move correctly, inner walls has tendency stay on place after their new copies are created on new spot, what leads to multiply of inner walls ... in original place of writ is then left blurred trace made from inner walls, if that writ is moved further away EDIT3: wow, it seems, loading of application was improved, it was common for me to freeze on start, but I had none froze in version 1.5, good work and do not take it wrong, your planner is best game tool, I saw in long time, I just want help a bit, as software developer, I know how important beta testing is (somebody should explain it to my boss too )

Actually, telling a Chinese person (race) to do a stereotypical Chinese (race) thing... is racist. To compare a person to a national tendency (multiracial Nation), is not racist. Non-Racial example: You run this factory like a Chinese Sweat Shop. <--- Not Racist. There are sweat shops in China. Racial example: You are Chinese.. I won't work for you, you probably run a sweat shop! <--- Racist. You assume because he is Chinese that he will run his business illegally.
  34. 1 point
I dont see it as a racism at all. You dont say that about German ppl do you? You dont say that about American, do you? You say that only about chinese for a reason, cuz thats stereotype of that nation. But not racism. Other example: Would you call it racism if some one said to chinese "Go eat a bowl of rises". maybe you would, but i dont, cuz thats what they do there, they eat rises 5 times a day. Thats stereotype of the nation again. You say that to Euro player, he would laugh you off. You say that to asian he thinks you are racist. If the truth hurts your butt that doesnt mean its racial.

I don't know how he could have phrased that any better, light path is afaik even the actual menu option for enlightening. (having path leader advance an underling one level) The light path option can fail depending on the meditation skill of the underling. But that didn't matter much so far, because the leader would just spam rclick->light path as much as his hand and mouse can handle. Now there is that cool down (that doesn't seem to work right, though)

Honestly I would prefer mobs across all servers were more balanced. It is far more difficult for new players today than when I started, and far more tedious for me than 2 years ago. Since its unlikely that it will ever get balanced, I now support a non-aggro only style server, because it will retain more players which can only benefit Wurm.

Recently we had same kingdom alts on a home server run over with troll clubs to add to that gank bonus as said, but not every time do they go (hunted), or sometimes you have no choice but to fight them first so they dont mess with things, and you go (hunted). This means you're effectively enemy to your own kingdom mates, removing the ability to use AoE spells as you'll hit your friends, even hit yourself assuming that hasn't been fixed. So add; remove hunted status, and reputation from pvp (home servers) entirely. Leave the thievery/illegal deed action reps, of course. This also means readd full loot, so you can take whatever the alts steal back, or their troll clubs.

Hello friends, Since today I got my "100 posts badge", I decided to take a deep breath and look back at what I "achieved" and learned during this time... I'm not a smart girl, so I don't claim that I made only smart posts. Yet, I know that I tried to bring quality to all discussions I took part and bring to the spotlight those things which I considered important (either that it was points of view about game mechanics like this one, ideas of how to get the best results for our money like this one or this one aimed at the not-so-rich player, suggestion for game improvements like this one or this one). And I know that I never hit the post button without giving that post quite a bit of thinking. And considering that I collected almost 50 likes to my 100 posts and that one of the posts was recommended by Rolf himself, I can say that I have done quite a decent job. Yet, it looks that as I dared to touch some of the most "tabu" subjects (like traders, ideas to reduce the gap between the new/casual and veteran/hardcore players, ideas to change the game), some people stopped using valid arguments, and reverted to ad hominem attacks varying from the fact that I'm too new to be allowed to have a point of view to the fact that I'm not as smart as many of you and that unlike most of you I also do have a mental disorder. I really don't understand why those people felt the need to be mean instead of offering constructive criticism to my ideas, but it was their decision, and I can't do anything against them. Anyway I already had more than I can handle, so to all those people that made a hobby of hunting me in each and every thread I post and attack me, I have a good (or maybe bad) news - I will really stop posting on forums (except maybe the occasional question on the New Arrivals forum or my server local forum). You guys won; feel free to celebrate. But really, I don't think that this is how the forums should be - attacking each other and transform a debate where we should discuss ideas, into a personal war (and here I don't talk only about my case). I really think that we (actually you, because I'm not out of this) should learn to work together, as a team, and not one against each other. I really think that any new idea / suggestion should be analyzed and be treated with constructive criticism (explaining what it is not good and suggesting ways of improving / correcting it) so the best solutions can emerge. Really, guys, stop being selfish. This is not a competitive game (well, except the PVP servers). The goal should not be to "rule the server", show the others "who's the daddy" and preserve your advantage over the new players at any cost. The goal should be to work together to develop a "better world", to make new friends, to socialize, to have fun. To attract new players to the WURM family and to help make it a better game. I will end with a quote which I really love: "Remember that it may be nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!" Best regards to all of you (even those with you who really hated the fact that I was here), Alex

This whole thing is based on my personal observations. I'm bound to get a lot of people disagreeing (Especially people from Independence) but here is my breakdown of Freedom servers, for freelos: Deliverance: Freelo Tolerance: 9/10 - Perhaps the nicest server, as far as community goes. My alt has yet to be griefed on this server, despite the fact that hes been essentially squatting near people's land. Most players have been mature about conflicts caused by my presence, and I've been helped by multiple people to get my Freelo established. Open Space: 2/10 - I've found a couple of open patches of land on Deliverance, usually on top of massive mountains, or along landlocked plateaus - but many of them are claimed by already large, well established clusters of towns or alliances. Frankly put, if you plan on colonizing this land as a freelo, you will not get too far. You will eventually be forced to join a village, as this server really isn't that large. Newbie Friendly Villages: 10/10 - There are a multitude of large clustered alliances that cater specifically to helping new players get established. There are also a couple of barter towns for players without money to ply their trades without much muss or fuss. Difficulty for New Players: 2/10 - I rate this server to be the easiest for new players who are okay with the idea of joining a village. Deliverance has an extremely tightly knit community, which is always a plus for casual players who are looking to have some fun without much commitment or expectation. Almost everything is colonized, with the exception of a few plateaus to the north-east and the steppes in the south, making this the safest server to explore. Pristine: Freelo Tolerance: 8/10 - One of the nicest servers out there. Freelos are generally regarded as important cogs in the wheels of progress on an otherwise still growing server. Because not all of the highways are completed - and everybody is still getting their deeds set up, a freelo's services are guaranteed to be useful, and utilized. Open Space: 9/10 - Although not as spacious as Release, you are still fairly guaranteed to wander for hours through endless forests, as well as massive deserts and steppes. For anybody with the drive to carve out a little chunk of the wilderness, Pristine is a great place to start. Newbie Friendly Towns: - 5/10 - I've found three willing villages. This is the fewest so far. For the most part, Pristine is still in the process of getting established, so it makes sense that not everybody has time for newbies in particular, however, of the three, two were both very close to the spawn - while the third was on a far off remote island. You may have difficulty traveling the wilderness though, getting to your destination. Difficulty for New Players: 4/10 - The biggest issue with playing on Pristine is the mobs. You will die a lot to mobs - especially the occasional fast or champion mob that spawns, as there aren't many roads to use to get away from their fury. Besides this, the community is wonderful, and accommodating. If you can find a niche on this server - you'll be welcomed with open arms. Independence: Freelo Tolerance - 2/10 - Independence is my home server, which may surprise you to hear, but my time as a Freelo on Independence was miserable. I was griefed multiple times, and the general response is, "You should've secured your stuff, stupid noob." - Moving into an area near a town will often get your stuff mass-burned, stolen or bashed in, even if you've acquired permission to move in from one of the neighbors. The community is great once you get to know them, but don't expect much sympathy from the old dogs living in Independence. You pretty much need to know where to go to enjoy yourself on Independence, and, due to the travel time to find open space, this server can be a Freelo's nightmare. Join with caution. Open Space - 5/10 - Despite the fact that the central heart, and south-lands are pretty much completely colonized. There are large swaths of land to the north, north-east, far east, and north-west that have yet to be filled in. Given the size of independence, and the rate of deeds being foreclosed on - you can easily find a place to move in, even if you don't plan to place down a deed. Newbie Friendly Towns - 8/10 - Independence has a lot of newbie friendly towns. (A LOT) The problem is, with the exception of two that are located near spawn the majority of them are in extremely far off locations, making it difficult, if not downright impossible for new players to reach them. (Some are even on remote islands, and will not offer boating service.) - This brings me back to my point of needing to know someone on Independence to really get established. Be prepared to butter people up on /shout channel. Difficulty for new Players - 10/10 - Don't expect Independence to be anything but a source of aggravation for a new player. The lack of tolerance, the difficulty of reaching a friendly face, and the occasional troll sneaking up your rear when you're travelling through a highway system that often goes through a completely un-deeded forest and steppes makes this a frustrating experience. Bring some patience if you plan to join Independence, otherwise, bring a friend. This server gets my hardest server for newbies rating. Exodus (I can't add this one, as I haven't made an alt for Exodus yet. Sorry.) Serenity (I can't add this one, as I haven't made an alt for Serenity yet. Sorry.) Release: Freelo Tolerance - 10/10 - Simply put, you're needed. With so much space, and so many projects on the go - it's hard to see anybody turning down the help of a freelo. I've moved into a neighbrohood, and almost immediately I was asked if I could move my home onto their deed, because they wanted more people to help build up the deed. I didn't even have to go too far from spawn to find open space suitable for my needs. Open Space - 9/10 - Easily the most open server I've found yet. (On par with Pristine, but despite being more populous, I've found a lot more open space here.) Be careful though. Unlike the other servers, there is a heck of a lot of desert and steppes, meaning it's also one of the more dangerous places to explore for fun. I can't count how many times I've died to a random troll or psycho-speed champion scorpion. You can see them coming, but the road networks don't cover the map like some servers like Independence or Deliverance do. Newbie Friendly Towns - 6/10 - I've had a lot of good luck finding people willing to help here, but for the most part, they were found close to the spawn. I did have the luxury of meeting a few nice chaps from the outlying southern islands. However, the amount of help offered felt sparse compared to the larger more established servers. Difficulty for new Players - 4/10 - Again, I can't help but feel the only challenge came from the occasional wild mob that was far out of my league. I have died more often on release than anywhere else, but that's predominantly because I had a habit of sneaking off the highway system. The wide open spaces will make a freelo feel as if he can make a real difference.

Rolf, I'm sure we all understood the necessity of increasing the price with around 25% to cover the change in legislation regarding VAT, and this must be done as soon as May 2nd when the new legislation kicks in. No questions here. However going higher than that (60% on everything), all of a sudden (I know you say this not over night, but after seven years, but for us, newer players, for which the low price was a factor for choosing WURM, it is over night) it's a bit extreme and there may be more looses then you may estimated (people quitting the game all together, people lowering the number of characters / deeds / deed size / etc) and in the end bring lower income than you expect (if not negative results). But for the rest of the increase you don't have to take a decision before May 2nd. So just don't do it. Take some more time to ponder the possibilities, analyze our ideas (maybe most are trash, but maybe some are good) and take a well analyzed decision and not a rushed one. So what I would suggest: - increase price from 10 to 12.5 euros to both premium membership (2 months) and silver coins (10) starting with May 2nd. This should be more than enough to cover the VAT and don't give you troubles on short term and it also makes a round number (for 4 months / 20 silver it would be a round 25 euros) (extra suggestion here: allow an option to transfer premium time between accounts on same email address - same person) - this will not make it unfair to people who bought now to get the old price, since they would still save 25% - analyze your options for the difference to cover the exchange rate, inflation and increase your profit margin; if after two months you'll still feel that the solution is to increase the price to the values you suggest now then do it at that time - at least we would know that you did analyzed all our suggestions and took an informed decision, not a rushed one Personally, I still think the best option would be to have: - silver price of 12.5 euros - normal premium package of 12.5 euros per two months, but add some limits to it like not being able to use sleep bonus or set a deed or have a trader / merchant (that would pretty much be perfect for the casual player - villager type) - add a VIP premium package of 25 euros per two months, with all incentives from today and even some extra perks (like the ability to plant not one, but more deeds from a single account) (hich most players looking for serious business would buy) - add a gift option in shop to be able to gift premium / coins to a friend - add some cosmetic things to trader without any practical in-game advantage like "gnomes" (which seem to be the newest fashion item on my server) or glowing dye which could allow anyone to dye their items like they're rare But these are just my suggestions, sure there are better. But the important part is: raise the price now with what you really have to (20-25%) and take the time to analyze the options for the rest of income source during the next couple of months. P.S.: As an ultimate idea, if anything we'll say won't make you change your mind - at least make it a 50% increase, not a 60%. It's not only that the 10% percent will make it a bit easier for us to swallow it, but it would also make it somehow easier to calculate / express. It would be 15 euros for two months or 10 silvers (round number); it would be 1.5 euros per silver (again round number). And, as proven on the other thread, a 50% price increase would be more than enough to cover VAT taxes, euro exchange rate differences, inflation (all raising to like 35%-40% at most), and also leave you some extra money (10%-15%) for investments / development or that trip in Hawaii. Cheers, Alex
