Meet Vynora. She is my hedgehog. She likes to play with toilet paper tubes and run in her wheel. She also likes to take baths and hide in her blanket. She doesn't like to be woken up though.

I just started playing a couple weeks ago and love it. Subbed and bought some silver for a deed. I never heard of Wurm though until recently. I cant believe its been out since the early 2000's. No i probably wont stay forever but if history is any guide I will play a lot for the first 6 months or so then play less, but still play on and off for up to years afterward. While there are a lot of suggestions which people have for Wurm, if I had to sum up one thing I think is really hurting bringing in new players its that: The game severely punishes new players who make simple mistakes. Accidentally fall off a cliff right after starting and cant remember where you died? Well too bad you now lost your starting compass, backpack and toolbelt. Simple things to get if you are high level but very frustrating to lose right off the bat, especially the compass. Decided to learn the game, learn how to survive then got excited and put hours into building your first house? Well too bad you built too close to someone else's perimeter without realizing since you didnt even know what you needed to wiki to know this, and now WILL NEVER be able to deed your place and make a settlement on it. You just wasted hours of time for nothing and will need to abandon the house and rebuild elsewhere if you ever hope to deed it. Did you just assume that an MMO meant players are rewarded for cooperating with one another and you and some other newbies decided to build close together to form a sense of community? Well if one person simply drops off and doesnt come back again, too bad, you can now NEVER deed your place until their house decays in a year because its too close to theirs and you dont have their writ, and they have decided to stop playing altogether. All your effort on your house is now for nothing if you ever hope to deed it and make it more permanent. Did you build an enclosed fence surrounding your first house, since it seems logical, then died later in a far out spot you were exploring across the map that is nearly impossible to reach again since you rezed at Free Market, or simply can't remember how to get to since you died earlier and lost your compass? Well you are now permanently locked out of your house since you cant get past your locked gate because your key is on your corpse, which isn't obvious that this would happen when you built it since your house lock doesnt work that way, and you don't have body str to knock a section down. Have fun attempting to find your body with your only key for the next 4 hours while dieing more and getting more and more frustrated. etc, etc, etc.... I could go on. I like this game a lot but are these sort of punishing circumstances really necessary for new players who make simple mistakes? Ive seen a few people quit now due to the extreme frustration from a simple miss click that then leads to one of the above situations where they realize they have just wasted hours for nothing. There are easy fixes to all of these that wouldnt unbalance the game. Give people a week where their newbie gear, including compass, stays with them if they die. Have a warning pop up when you are building a house that says "you are building within X tiles of perimeter/other house and will not be able to deed this place later if you choose." Make it so that any gate built by you, within a few tiles of your own house is easy to knock down etc... This game is really unique and that is why I like it. But I have never seen a game which just crushes new players hopes with extreme frustration for simple mistakes, some of which seem like you should intuitively do, like settle next to someone....

I think you are jaded at best. Your definition of "complex" is skewed. The game itself is brain dead easy once you learn how to navigate the menus or how to stomach the "combat." I would say people leave in the first week because they really do see that Wurm is a mindless grind that requires something else to do. A lot of people are unwilling to multitask to play a game. Some of us are addicted to the "living, breathing world" and that Wurm is the first game to give a real virtual existence. That's why I play but if someone else incorporated all of that into a modern game, you better bet I'd jump ship. Wurm is too slow to keep the masses entertained. Minecraft is too fast to keep "us" entertained. There is a medium somewhere in between where you can accomplish stuff in an hour a night. Wurm as it stands requires a huge time commitment and will therefore never hook the casual types. Minecraft has the uber casual, instant gratification crowd. Sometime, someone will bridge that gap and that game will be huge... Just my opinion.

Grass tiles have fireflies, ferns, etc. Trees should have squirrels and perhaps other items. Steppe should have... ? Sand with cacti, marsh with ducks, etc... seem great but those tiles can be both aboveground and underwater so it wouldn't look too good.

So, in my kingdom chat we just watched a few players argue about killing each other but that is besides the point - Somehow we got off topic about pizza and it occurred to me that Wurm doesn't have pizza. Wurm NEEDS Pizza. All you would have to do is add tomatoes into the game and pizza crust. We have mushrooms, cheese, all kinds of meats, and veggies galore. Think about the possibilities! Pizza should be good as meals because it is pizza. Mhm, you like this idea I know you do. Rolf you know what must be done. I am going go to go order some Pizza now.

How do you know where I live? Stalking me I see Back to the OP though, it is not my cow, and I'm not aware of any animals getting loose from Kili and Ker's place either, and I know they do not own a toon named Larsinabox. Aetherwalker and Thunderstruck live slightly closer to Annex however, so maybe it is simply an unused alt of theirs. To be honest I have never heard of that toon, nor seen it in the area before, so it may belong to someone further north of Annex. Good luck on getting into contact with the owner.

It seems blindingly obvious to me that this is a great idea if implemented correctly, and it wouldnt take much to do so, there just has to be one main rule really, the pvp suggestions should only be for items which purely affect PVP. For example Player wants to suggest a change to Libila Spell - This does not affect freedom as they cannot access libila, this would go in the PvP suggestions Player thinks oakshell is OP and wants it nerfed - This change affects both PvE and PvP servers, so would go in the general suggestions forum Its so easy to do, just look at it and go, does freedom have access to this really... answer is no, into the pvp suggestion, answer is yes, let everyone discuss it. another example Change to Glimmersteel + Adamant Effect - This is an item gotten from Epic Scenarios and HoTA's (a PVP event), this goes in the PvP suggestion forum Change to Drake/Scale - This would effect freedom, everyone should discuss it. It doesn't take much moderation, i see threads being moved to correct sections all the time, all someone has to do is look at the OP objectively and decide wether it would affect freedom, if so, move it to correct suggestion. This isn't about getting things changed that affect both PvE and PvP, but it would be nice to be able to discuss a change to Libila for example, without someone who can't even access the god making wild arguments (or giant red -1's) over something that has absolutely no impact on their gameplay experience, i don't start pointless arguments about changes to how to milk a cow, coz tbh, if i see a cow, i just use it for weaponskill, i see no need for people to do otherwise.

Sure, but it doesn't really help anything when the suggestion is rooted in concern. To me a suggestion is a platform for brainstorming solutions to community concerns. In this context, a big red minus one versus a simple "I disagree because of X" Makes a world of difference. Ultimately none of us here have any real say in what happens to the game. Because of this, I feel a more community oriented approach would provide a better framework for the team that makes these calls.

OK, your opinion is considered by many to be valid, but is not shared by all. IMO, any Player that does NOT make ingame character skill and activity decisions based on what seems good RP-wise is in fact missing the point of playing a MMORPG to begin with. This is fundementaly why I seem to disagree with how most Players "play" Wurm. RP doesn't factor into their decisions at all, and I am convinced it should. @Eldurian... It seems to me after reading your post that you care at least partially for what is or is not roleplay worthy as far as how you develop you character. If that is how you have fun playing Wurm, then cool. If I am wrong and you don't care that much about RP, then play it however you find it fun for YOU. There are many ways to play Wurm and almost all are "valid". Even though I may not agree with how BrQQQ plays Wurm, his way is as much "valid" as mine is. p.s.: I have also considered making my character Kyrmius a Fo Priest, and when I thought about which Meditation Path to pursue I too was wondering whether Love or Insanity would be better. Good Thread Idea and thanks.

Sure wish I had the option too: 1. Set what butchered products I want to keep and the game would delete anything that doesn't meet requirements. 2. Use a single keybind that does a butcher and burry in one key press.

Id say the most obvious as Joffrey; however, Ive been a fan of old Railroad since the books, sooo already know how things go for Joffrey. At the risk of spoilers, I think the tv writers may be saving that for the season finale given the current pacing, so the tv-only crowd will have something nice to look forward to here pretty soon. Anyways... all hail the true King of the Seven Kingdoms:

Actually, I've never "Quit" and never stopped playing because of "Endless drudgery". I've taken break ranging from a wekk to afew months at a time but that's usually been from simply achieving my goals or playing the game SO much that I simply burn out Price isn't an issue for me. Wurm Online for me is still cheaper than going to the movies with a drink and popcorn and for the price I get 2 months of unlimited amusement. Seems like a good deal to me, of course it sucks that the price went up but I still think it's worth it for the most part.

PLAYER NAME: Rockybalboa REASON: Making really bad posts No, but really, Freedom doesn't need lynch mobs organizing on the game's official forums. If you want to dispense some frontier justice, form up in a posse and go... say bad things in some guy's local I guess, organize it ingame/offsite or take it somewhere that PVP is allowed.

I think that would be too easy and would take away from having to tame things. You can use players as bait though to lead mobs into traps.

Here is a rough rundown on how adding custom timers will look in new assistant: 1. Create a new blank timer 2. Set the text to look for in event/combat or other log (will work like in searcher: either plain text plus optional * for any character, or regex expression for more tricky things) 3. Set duration of the timer 4. Set what may reset the timer (like server uptime going into another 24 hour window) Once such timer is added, it pops on the list and will work. Each timer will have it's own "options", to set popups, sounds, it will also have "reset" and "start" buttons to manually control it. This is in addition to previous hardcoded timers for medit and priests. ============= Some other things: If someone would like to support and spread the word about Assistant or Warlander's deed planner or other tools, you can try setting your alliances MOTD with these links: Wurm Assistant thread (this one): http://tinyurl.com/wurma2 Warlander's 3dPlanner thread: http://tinyurl.com/wurplan Stargrace's Resources thread: http://tinyurl.com/wurmres ------ I would welcome a group of dedicated alpha\beta testers, that could play with new builds and try to break them (literally) and also to give interface feedback because it's very hard for me to figure what is intuitive and what isn't. Of added benefit would be direct chat contact (like skype, but other ones will do as well). Testers can count on: - will be fully credited in a well visible place - get priority support for any issues, now and in future - really dedicated testers may even get features coded/adjusted specially for them

So players who own a deed will be able to create them ( becouse they will have enough funds for rewards, but i can be wrong ) New item : Quest board (might be similar to GM notice board but larger or just small and large versions) Mayor builds it and uses it to create quests. Quest settings Time : shows how much time left Goal : items to get ( ore, meats and so on ) Reward : items Specific requirements : skill level and it's range, time played.... Offer time: shows how much time left until quest is gone Other After player takes it, noone can do it at same time. Given quest items won't last long so you can't use it as container ( few days maybe ) After quest is taken players can't affect settings. It can serve as middleman in trade ( mayor gives offers quest 500 bricks for 1s) Example : Time: 3 days Goal: bring 50 logs QL doesn't matter Reward: 50ql longsword and shield Offer time: 2 days Player takes logs into inventory then uses board to fill in quest requirements. After that player gets his reward and quest giver have few days to take items. Discuss and suggest

Actually, the reason why there arent that many players, I think its because there is no advertisement campaign, I definitely stumbled upon this almost by chance, looking for a game that I wasnt sure if it existed or not. And we are not the intellectual elite, I would guess it has a lot more to do with being patient and stubborn people, more than intelligent above average.

The option to pay premium time with in-game silver should honestly be removed. It mostly benefits the older players that very likely pay ALL their premium time with coin they earn from selling items to other players. Rolf, it was a nice gesture to allow us to pay premium time with silver, but the economics of that decision are obviously now different. I understand having to raise the rates, but the newer players will pay more money for premium while the older players (many of them) will see no financial change out-of-pocket because they will still pay the same 10s for premium. That's not a good trend. Just get rid of the option to pay premium with silver and stabilize and increase your income from premium subs. It's needed and I believe most would understand.
  45. 1 point
I'm surprised how easily this community tolerates this change. Premium went up by 60%, silver cost probably will increase by same amount, all that because CodeClub (allegedly) failed to have emergency funds AND failed at reviewing tax law within 10 years of starting the project. Nobody finds that scary? Some say, it's ok because "it will go on game development"... what development? CodeClub has about 8 employees? The work they do amounts to 2-3 at best. Maybe layoffs are the right choice? Although it's not me to say or recommend that, it's just how it looks to me and I have a decent idea about running software development. What I am really afraid of here is what this means for newcomers. They don't care about some "fantastic items chances" and "sleeping powders", all they see is an uphill climb of mixed long timers, confusing rules and crafts, slow grinds and clunky mechanics. Even 5 euro a month was a hard bargain on them, for such a game... I don't think 8 will even cross their minds as option. Same for silver prices, upkeeping smallest deed will increase monthly costs to about 10 euro! That's the cost of typical AAA title and probably more than Unity-based upcoming sandbox mmo's will charge. What should have really followed with this price increase, would be changes to newcomers experience, easier time to "catch up" in skills, easier time to learn the game, better newcomer benefits from getting premium (body control to ride horses, body strength to bash or at least bashing on their own deeds!), better social options to actually find and enjoy a community, better deed system to actually allow securely sharing one deed without being at the mercy of mayor. Newcomers are the lifeblood of this game, even if it won't die without them, the profits will drop with the premium count, the net will not be 60% gain, it may even be negative in long-term. That makes this business decision fail at the very goal it was made for. Why couldn't this have been solved in DIFFERENT way, offer skill gains and other useful services/items for silver, like most F2P games do. What is wrong with an option to pay for skills, instead of grinding them? Most people have jobs and families you know, they are not interested in spending 8 hours to get 1 mining skill, but they just might be willing to pay an euro for it.

you kill the trader farming, you kill all economy. there wont be jobs for anyone to earn silvers to pay for prem time. main reason ppl buy and sell stuff, cuz there are silvers circulating around. cut them, no one will play with their own real money literally. So the ones doing jobs to earn 10s to get premium and saying kill trader farming, you digging a hole to yourself really. And all these "drained silvers" end up in Rolf's pocket anyways, cuz ppl buy prem, buy sleep powders, but other stuff. Also a lot of ppl would rage, specially the ones that invested in this game most (buying a trader is not cheap). Would be one of the stupidest things done, if that would ever happen.

Ok, as someone who just spent an hour trying to skillup lockpicking without having any idea about the 10 minute restriction, I seriously think they need to implement some sort of message to that effect in the actual game. Something like: "You need to take a short break and think about what you just learned before you can continue learning" when you successfully gain skill. It is ridiculous to have that in there with no indicator that people are wasting their time like that. -Michael
