I don't grind for skills like some people do i would have quit a long time ago if i did. I just play the game building and gathering resources for what i need at the time and the skills just come with time. I am at a little over two years now and i am just now seeing my skills going over the 70-80 mark. The bottom line is this game takes time to level skills even more with characteristics but if you can get some good tools with high CoC that helps a little making the gains better when your using SB.

I think he's saying stop focusing on skills and start focusing on goals .. which is totally what i do. I have a nice fat todo list and each day i start at the top of the list do a bit of A, until bored, then i do a bit of B, until i'm bored then i do a bit of .. etc etc etc

The more intelligent you make animals, the harsher they become on the server. The harsher on the server, the fewer animals it can handle. I prefer dumber but more animals than very few superintelligent creatures.

We've recently encountered a lovely little dillemma with our town on Epic. The village was changed to a democracy due to the founding mayor going MIA for the past 6-7 months. Everything was fine until we ran into a bit of a snag. We had a villager who nobody liked, to be blunt, so we wanted to remove him. Thing is, we couldn't do that ourselves. Not me, the current mayor, or anyone else with villager management rights. When we confronted him and asked him to /revoke, it took about an hour to finally get him to go, which if we didn't keep track of him (or if he logged off and logged back in during nighttime) could have potentionally been disastrous. Because of Epic's low GM-intervention policy, getting the fellow kicked for greifing wasn't a possibility. At best given the worst situation we could kill him, but he could still respawn on deed, or simply travel from spawn, and cause havok once again, since revoking is something he has to do himself. I would like to propose three possible soultions for this problem. 1) Institute a /votekick that functions like /vote but to remove the player from town instead of promoting to mayor. This follows the meaning of democracy and is possibly ideal. 2) Allow the current mayor to revert back to dictatorship. In our situation with the founding mayor being gone we had no options, though this solution might pose some problems down the line. 3) Remove the democracy aspect. I'm aware dictatorships can be outvoted still, (and probably would have been the better option for us if we weren't cycling through villagers left and right), but this political type seems redundant, especially since there's no way to turn back without the founding mayor.

To my knowledge, the slope of the tile you are currently on effects stamina drain in some ways. If it is so steep that you would normally slide, your stamina will not regen. Does not matter if you are on a boat, cart, only riding as passenger, or what. Too steep = no stamina regen. May want to check to see if this is what you're experiencing. Unsure as to whether this actually is a bug, or working as intended, but it has been this way for quite some time.

After some contemplation upon this latest excessive aggro increase on the Freedom Isles PvE servers, I am finally discerning the method behind Rolfs "madness" concerning this seemingly peculiar system of attracting and retaining players. Well actually that is not the primary intent at all, so is the wrong direction in which to be searching for the answer. Consider this, Rolfs main source of income from the game of Wurm is *Deeds*; therefore, in order to perpetuate the game and his income from it he must consider ways to "encourage" players to purchase and maintain them as the main focal point of the game. Aggro mobs are the perfect foil in this conspiracy, in that they can be used as a distraction to pit the hunter/survivalist types and the builder/crafter types against one another, while the true intent of the aggro population fluctuations remains concealed from all but the most descerning few of the playerbase. Although I am somewhat reluctant to make any revealing statements concerning the above conspiracy as they may reduce Rolfs income from indignant players who feel that they have been fooled by Rolfs clever manuverings and manipulations of them in this regard, I am nonetheless compelled to continue onward with my revelation, due to my need to make it known that I have come to some brilliant conclusions that few have had the insight or temerity to comment upon; but, I digress. Back now then to the intent behind periodic excessive aggro spawn increases, which is actually to "encourage" players to place and maintain deeds as the most reasonable protection from their disruptive influences, which the majority of players want to deal with on their own terms, not as a constant assault. Also note that subtly included with this latest excessive aggro spawn increase is the "reluctance" of these aggros to now even enter deed tiles, making deeds even without Spirit Templars more valuable in deflecting these rampaging aggro mobs. Sacrificing an additional 1 silver for a Spirit Templar that *may* not be necessary under these circumstances is little in the scheme of things when people purchase more deeds for protection and enjoyment of the game. Even the accommodation of new players with the enclosure rules is just another deflection of this conspiratorial intent, in that this excessive aggro spawn increase is allowing them to spawn on a constant basis within their enclosures, making them worthless death traps. This in turn makes the poor immigrant new player shortly realize that they will accomplish little on their own without placing a deed themselves for protection from these fiendish apparitions; thus, they are placed in the dilemma in which the *Deed* is the perfect option and solution for self sufficiency. Now while I find it all well and good that Rolf would endeavor to search for new ways to encourage players to purchase deeds, since this is the major portion of his game income upon which the financial success and development of the game is based, I see these periodic excessive aggro spawn increases as a somewhat dubious way to go about accomplishing this objective. To impose undue hardships upon the playerbase is disruptive to enjoyment of the games major unique attracting factors, which are its building, terraforming and growing landscaping effects. Fighting aggros is much better done and more enjoyable in countless online games and should only be a minor adjunct to Wurm rather than having any dominating disruptive effect, even if the hidden (conspiracy) goal is to "encourage" other players to purchase their own Deed. So there you have the conspiracy unveiled to all who have had their attentions diverted to squabbling amongst themselves as an integral part to the continuation and perpetuation of this clever plot of the game creator, who has more insight into human nature and the diversion of intent than you might suppose. Now I will leave you to continue with your squabblings or embrace the revelation that I have bestowed upon you in my supposed arrogance. Happy trails! =Ayes= *winks*

The forces of oppression are in full force today, i have viewed this Document of Truth a number of times and yet the webpage shows 0 views. Clear evidence that Rolf and his jack booted forum police are clamping down on anyone that dare speaks the truth behind the "Conspiracy" Remember comrades the founder of Ikea was a Nazi The march of Wurmian Truth Forces (hereby known as WTF) cannot be halted .... (except for those with less than 10 FS who can't get to the riots for the aggro mobs) Viva La Revolution comrades, viva la revolution!

There are some silly skill-titles, some of which break the game rules to begin with (pop-culture references such as Tank Girl, Gepetto, and Tim-the-Toolman), and some of which are not gender-oriented, such as Soulman. I think they could use a bit of updating. Some of the titles pertain to a different skill, such as Alchemist for Natural Substances and Gardener for Nature while both of these do have actual sub-skills that relate to the title. Alchemy: Alchemist, Chemist, Shaman (Male and Female) Natural Substances: Apothecarist, Transmultator, Druid (Male and Female) Archery: Archer, Bowman, Marksman (Male) - Archer, Bow Woman, Markswoman (Female) Toy Making: Toymaker, Renowned Toymaker, Master Toymaker (Male and Female) - As mush as I like Gepetto, it is a pop-culture reference... Butchering: Butcher, Skinner, Taxidermist (Male and Female) Climbing: Hiker, Rock Climber, Mountaineer (Male and Female) Fighting: Soldier, Mercenary, Knight (Male) - Soldier, Mercenary, Knightess or Dame (Female) Shield Bashing: Stunner, Basher, Smasher (Male and Female) Weaponless Fighting: Bruiser, Boxer, Pugilist (Male and Female) Knives: Knifer, Stabber, Assassin (Male and Female) Carving Knife: Carver, Engraver, Whittler (Male and Female) Nature: Naturist, Tree Hugger, Ecologist (Male and Female) Botanizing: Botanist, Herbalist, Phytologist (Male and Female) Foraging: Forager, Gatherer, Wanderer (Male and Female) Gardening: Gardener, Greenthumbs, Horticulturist (Male and Female) Miscellaneous Items: Handyman, Toolman, Master of All Trades (Male) - Handywoman, Toolwoman, Master of All Trades (Female) Repairing: Repairman, Fixer, Materia Tamer (Male) - Repairwoman, Fixer, Materia Tamer ( Female) Stone Cutting: Stonecutter, Sculptor, Artist (Male and Female) Polearms: Spearman, Pikeman, Lancer (Male) - Spearwoman, Pikewoman, Lancer (Female) Pottery: Potter, Moulder, Master Potter (Male and Female) Religion: Reverend, Pastor, Minister (Male and Female) Body: Athlete, Body Builder, Olympian (Male and Female) Mind: Intellectualist, Scholar, Philosopher (Male and Female) Soul: Spiritualist, Soulman, Maverick (Male) - Spiritualist, Soulwoman, Maverick (Female) None of the sub-characteristic skills should have titles as it gets too confusing. I do know traditionally people are allowed to pick their own titles when they are the first to achieve the skill, but sometimes people pick a title without thinking about the opinions of others. If anyone has any other suggestions or improvements to this, please post away, but try to include all 3 titles for the skill.

Hi, We have just patched the test server with a new function that I think will work nicely. You can now add tiles to an existing building, and remove tiles from an existing building. Removing tiles means you need to bash all existing adjacent walls and floors on that tile before you can remove the tile from the structure. Please test this properly as it is quite a large change to the codebase and requires alot of testing. Report your findings in this thread! Best regards Zcul

I bought a few garden gnomes today and one of them had been dyed with blue color and it makes it too dark for me but when i went to remove it i get a message saying i could not remove the dye. I then tried to change it to a white thinking it might lighten it up some and got the second message... 1: [18:28:41] The garden gnome is indestructible and the color can not be removed. 2: [18:30:55] The garden gnome is indestructible and the color can not be replaced. Now why would you make something able to be dyed but not give it an option to be removed or changed? Is this intended or is it a bug? Edit: While we are here talking about gnomes maybe we can get a new version for next Christmas? I would like to have a mining gnome or a farming one and hey are there any female gnomes out there?

Actually, it was a bug. 2012: Soft Cap. Because of a bug Santa gave out the 2011 gift for some time. They stopped the gnome being given out, as it was a past gift, you didn't get a choice, it was simply the soft cap that was meant to be given for 2012 xmas, just a few lucky players got the gnome before it was rectified.

We don't have to make a new market, PPM is up and running, and server residents line up for the task to maintain it. We will have roofs on the buildings soon, otherwise it's working at full capacity (a possible expansion can be made too)

Apologies, this is actually my fault. I couldn't make a deal with the Easter Bunnies union in time. They demanded lead free paint, shorter working hours, hair conditioner, environmentally friendly Easter baskets, high end running shoes, and carrots. I thought we were going to make it in time as we agreed to everything, but when they demanded carrots I just had to walk away from the bargaining table.

Find skills you enjoy doing, get into a village. I never enjoy doing 'daily chores' skills such as farming or cooking, which is why after 6 years I still only have 15 farming. I much prefer smithing and fighting. Playing in a village means you don't have to worry about doing everything yourself which tends to slow you down doing tasks you like. Have a friend take up chainsmithing while you do blacksmithing for example. This is how I started off, I took up blacksmithing while my buddy took up Carpentry. Eventually when we settled and knew how to play the game well and learn it's mechanics I ended up deciding I like to do everything myself. Slowly, one skill at a time I raised them until I didn't need to depend on others, only for things I didn't like (which I am forever grateful for haha)
  33. 1 point
It depends on your play style really, I know a few people who can get 90 in a skill in about a week. Different skills are easy/more difficult to raise. A casual player tends to skill a lot of general skills all at once slowly. If you're looking to get in the high leagues quickly then you're going to have to get some serious grind on the go. I have played for various years now, I always tend to aim high in skills but they're just sub-goals, the construction side to this game and exploring is so much more fun. I always plan projects in my head to do. It's always good to set up with friends as they will inspire you to create wonderful things too!

I like this idea as well due to all the possible writs, etc. But I also thought that there was an option like democracy or diplomacy or whatever that would allow a deed exchange (to a new deed not the current PPM) if someone goes inactive? Menyet, thank you for the work you and Monc have done on clearing the jungle that was sprouting up. I'm sure it looks a lot better now. Does anyone at all have any form of communication with Zali and / or his wife outside of the forums? That way we might be able to get this fixed? And as a community, should we not be able to get more access to the deed for roofing, etc, do we want to look at another possible market? If so, how long do we wait before we do? 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month? I think a timeline should be thought of. Personally I do like the current market spot but if it goes stagnant and we are unable to keep up with maintenance other than trees.... It might behoove us as a community to look at all the options, place some timelines, etc.
  38. 1 point
Monc, Tep and me started to maintain the nature part of the market, as i have some rights there to cut trees and plant new ones. The completely random jungle is conquered pretty soon (except an enchanted oak on the tile of an altar), the next step would be to build roofs so it won't look that abandoned.

just commenting on the "oh but we already have that" sentiment here since i find it counter productive and and to be honest it will make the game boring if there is no verity or alternatives. Sure some things might not fit in wurm, but a game like wurm should aim for as maybe item and varity possible alowing players to create all kinds of setting on there deeds/enclosures, oh and on that though why we should be able to pimp out carts and ships
  43. 1 point
If the deed holder of PPM reads this can you please give Monctonclown and Tep access to clean and upgrade the PPM. it is looking shabby and needs /roofs/ more stalls/ clean up. I am willing to do all that myself if i could. I will also supply all mats. Just let me!!!!

I hate this. I have a 31x11 deed and just started working on what I need to breed 5 speeds. I have about half of my deed devoted to 2x1 pens with two overflow pens for babies, each of which is 5x5. I don't see why if I have devoted one of my two deeds to horses, I can't do that, since it's the whole thing I love about Wurm. I was really, really looking forward to being able to sell horses and enchantments. As my villager said -- [18:05:00] <Renala> also the worst part is we could have just built off-deed pens to account for the change. So I will literally be better off lowering the size of my deed by about ten tiles (from 31x11 to 21x11) so that these animals are off-deed and spending the tiny amount of time to repair the fencing. Which means I will be paying less money to Rolf. I certainly can't increase size, as much as I'd like to, as other deeds are blocking me in. Honestly this makes me just want to sell hythorpe to Tpikol and move back up to Ebon Rih with the five speeds I spent 6 silver on. Or maybe go back to MUDding. I'm so depressed about this :/ Logging onto a dead cow literally the same day the change went in because I was at work and didn't have time to come home is so frsutrating. It could have just as easily been one of my 5-speed horses I just bought. I hate that Rolf thinks that this kind of stupid crap is a good idea. I hate that I pay $20 a month to play a game where the developer bends me over without warning to do stupid things that make no sense. I hate that since Garis and Eyerobot and Algol don't log in anymore, I almost just want to quit.

Ah yes, I remember back in late December there was something messed up with the boats. Don't know if it was exclusively on Indy but it was odd looking. Every boat I saw was tilted up, at all degrees, and on the shoreline sideways and such. Looked like someone was running around doing it on purpose ;D Going to have to go and find those pics now...

For people accidentally crossing the chaos border, implement a alert window that alerts when you are about to cross. Make it a yes no question which upon answering either allows you to cross or stops your boat. The alert window would also describe that players are entering a PVP zone and should consider the risks of proceeding.
