    The flaw with that is, of course, the fact that the lower your animal husbandry skill the higher your motivation to have a larger number of animals -- so that you can grind it up! Why exactly does it bother you if people have a bunch of horses? It's not the problem. If you want more to hunt, fix the bugs that trap animals in inaccessible caves. Fix stupid crap like unicorns taking up the spawn caps. Don't waste development time ticking off animal breeders or punishing them for trying to provide their servers with good horses or reliable leather sources because you can't be bothered to fix bugs or the obvious design flaws. .

    You say we have animations rolf, but i would be willing to bet more then 60% of the wurm population have them turned of because it causes too much lag to run 1 client. You really need to look into that, especially for PvP. I havnt used animations since 1.0, and honestly, i think you took a step back by releasing such "good" animations.

    Xsyon------- Unlimited. Also since ur takin this trolly, Xsyon has a better house customization ie. there we can really do some wicked neat multistory designs. games had this since launch. there is no limit to wat we can have on tribe, inside the homes, Basically, if it fits, it stays :-P But then again Rolf, wurm uses java and is based on cubes. mine craft also. Xsyon is a full 3d game and looks great. It just lacks wat wurm has, farming (which is about to go live on xsyon) then combat is still being tweaked yet in its broken state blows wurms out of the water, but then again wurm doesn't really have one. Wurm wins in the end due to mining,making boats and priests. For now that is. one day xsyon will have these things and if it doesn't, wont be long till someone else does. So Rolf, you should make housing have more decorations, more custumizations and we play wurm for 1 reason, freedom, which is slowly poofing. You can not say your a unlimited sandbox when ya got limitations, but for animals I can understands, but this games needs a serious database and hardware overhaul as you cant Handle a 2k pop. the spawn rates speak it all..lol. So yea theres my 2 cents, your not the only game that's a sandbox Rolf. Also to remind you Second Life is the sandbox king and you can do literally everything in that game, you name it and it can be done. that's true freedom, though I don't want to see wurm like second life, but still just sayin players enjoy more to do, more customization and more to explore.

    i would recommend 2 boats, a knarr for transporting goods and sailboat for the rest of your trips

    Currently, lights (and any objects in or on a structure) can't be viewed more than 6-8 tiles away, while ground-planted lights can be seen from far away. There are good coding reasons for this related to risk of overloading java clients with too many objects. However, I think it would be feasible to construct special 'lighthouse' lights that are allowed to bypass this restriction and shine for considerable distances. They should be more difficult to make, operate only within deeds, and have characteristics like BSB's/beds in that they not share squares with certain other objects.

    They do not get the part that there are many different types of PvP players...and I do not think they ever will. They are also worried that Bob has too much money and can afford to be elite so we must have high costs. Most of this leads to harsh and expensive PvP game play. This will not attract many of the people who would enjoy PvP and would come and play. A lot of people like to PvP without all the loss and costs just for the fun of fighting. Another thing is on the PvE servers you cannot fight at all so this leads to a lot of griefing using other tactics and people wanting to have to ability to kill others. If there was a server with no item loss, no token draining and allowed fighting it would have more players on it and this would look bad for the hardcores. This is of course IF people knew there would not be changes influenced to allow such things. Just look at the Home servers populations and you can see that more people play were they are safer from loss , but can still fight. score: Elevation 21 Wurm 710

    This makes me sad and I love my animals, and I take very good care of them. When others need animals I am more than willing to help them, and believe me I have helped a lot. I have been here over a year and a half and until now no one has complained about my animals. I am in the process of remodeling the ranch and when its ready a lot of my animals will be moved to the back of the ranch closer to the desert if u will. Not so close to the highway in front of Boppington and Mskb Ranch. I won't be moving them all but enough I hope it helps others with their lag issues if that is actually what is causing them, which I doubt. I don't feel I should have to remove my animals because someone has lag issues. I am sure if it is not my animals someone will find something else to complain about when it does not accomidate them. I have worked hard for what we have here at Boppingtonville and Mskb Ranch and I will continue to do so. I have tried to make the highways beautiful and very passive but there is an alternate way to get to the south if you have lag issues coming thru our towns. We at Mskb Ranch thank all of you for your support in this matter!! Kins.

    Hi! Since many of you seem to have problems understanding why we sometimes discuss nerfs when it comes to the number of items and/or animals available to you per area, I would like to see some numbers from other MMO games. Maybe that will show how bad we are or if we are at par with other games. MMO games we should compare with are not games you are allowed to host on your own computer unless you accept 2-300 players on your local machine. We are now using fully animated creatures (even if we'll be adding more animations later) with I'd say normal to high resolution textures. You may also consider ground decorations such as moving grass/farms and the density of trees. When it comes to trees we absolutely use less complex models than other games but it makes Wurm forests pretty dense comparatively. So - please provide statistics from other games about items on ground you can see, items in inventory, number of pets, number of creatures you can control, etc. Feel free to provide screenshots!

    I play on epic, but think this wouldn't hurt other servers. We need more long term goals (since wurm is a long term game). One of the only really long term goals is meditation for now (which is still unbalanced and too hard to get to 90), but what about abilities that involve body stats or other hard to get skills? Once you get to 40 body strength even the Fo spell Forest giant strength doesn't work on you, what will be the next goal? Stamina doesn't give any actual bonuses neither is there any bonuses for having more of it (except in PvP). Body control is well made for now, but it's really not long term, getting to 31 isn't that hard, whats next? Getting to 40 mind logic is ok, you get 4 action queue, but there is nothing more to it in higher levels? Why do all these skills become useless in higher levels? Most of the games adapt to their players that have reached the maximum skills and make new goals, how come in wurm we get no such goals? One of the stimulus to get high skills are titles, but you don't even get anything more then body builder (at 50 body strength) or soulman (at 50 soul depth), where are the titles for 70, 90? or at least some titles for the subskills? It is kind of disappointing for players who have been playing for more then half a year at least, since there is nothing new to achieve, at this point people just start quitting or selling their accounts since there in no more goals in the game...

    I dont know, but I keep feeling this undertone, that he is somewhat very annoyed with us because we complain so much and wants us to know how hard it is to get a game running smoothly without lowering the freedom we have. And challeging us to show examples of games that run smoother with even more freedom attached. Could be just me tho, reading to much between the lines. None the less, you cant compare wurm with other games, since not that many big mmo's are written in java and give the same amount of landshaping we have in wurm.

    I had 80 people one time in my local and it was like a hell trip even with every graphic option turned on extremely low. This client isn't built for so many animations and other things which have been added in the past. It needs a complete new program code and a new engine to solve this issue, well I know that this takes huge amounts of time but it is so needed.

    The animations gives wurm a bunch of atmosphere wherever they appear. Rolf isn´t to blame for a "step back" caused by crappy PCs. I don´t say that the performance of wurm can´t be better, but the annimations are a BIG step forward, and nothing else but that. PS: if anyone want to compare Wurm to another MMO then please to another MMO which is programmed on Java... i mean... its Java...

    Rolf - I enjoy Wurm enough to have quit and/or cancelled my other MMO subs (which precludes my ability to easily substantiate my claims with screenies). I feel that Wurm is very fair with the amount of inventory which characters are allowed. Other MMOs do not base inventory on character strength, but have the tendency to base it on things like bag space. I have to say that I like Wurm's realism better in this regard. Where Wurm lacks, however, is animal re-spawns. I do understand that the pathing of said animals, as well as other related factors, increase server loads and some people would argue that there would be no issue if people did not hoard animals. Playing other MMOs, however, I have consistently felt that the population of NPCs did not fluctuate as much as they seem to on Wurm. Considering that we are still in the medieval era, and that during this era, horses, deer, chickens, and bison were (and in some areas still are) plentiful, I do feel that re-spawns need to be more regular and that those re-spawns should be based more or less on local area populations rather than server wide populations.

    You have to remember that other games are much easier to level crafts etc in. They do not require near the work to get to the upper levels as wurm does.

    This is the most idiotic suggestion so far. You realize you have to grind grooming a lot to get beyond one cared for animal? You are essentially restricting every new player from even having any capability to groom animals to increase their cared for count! You would be restricting them to one horse, without the ability to keep any animals to groom to skill up their cared for count so they can keep any more animals. Again could you be any more idiotic than that? You just as well change the web page to say you get one horse that is all, do not even think about having a herd as it gets the hunters all up in a frenzy.

    They joined the server to be isloated and - most likely - to be able to make a lot of coin. They can stick it out there until Rolf connects them, otherwise you'll have all sorts of weekend warriors there making lots of cash and brinng it to the main cluster the next day.

    This is why we, the South Pearls Alliance, dont like players deeding in Skeleton Desert on South Exodus. The templar of this place (Forest Edge) kills all animals trespassing the deed border. And its a lot of corpses there..... While we try to keep the desert a clean place, suitable for some fine hunting fun. Not just for alliance-members, but for all players on the Freedom Isles who wanna give hunting a serious try.

    Why limit people because someone has a crappy computer? Why limit people to avoid animal counts? Why tell anyone in a sandbox game what they can and cant do if they are playing within the rules, All these limits are putting "lipstick on a pig" so to speak. Instead of implementing limits, the game should be expanded. Im not talking about adding server after server after server. Im talking about building the game to fit players, not restricting players to fit the game. This game has limits due to the platform it is on. If you want a real mainstream mmo, then get away from this overgrown browser game and build a real one.

    With the advent of papyrus I thought it would be a cool idea to add player made maps to the game. Instead of it being made with everything on it make it to where the initial map has only the server the map is made on and you personally add markers to it of where you think things are, you could add road markers, village, wl/bl(for epic players) mark your alliance villages and even enemy villages. Make it an item that doesn't cross servers and requires a Papyrusmaking skill of say 50, also require you activate a reed pen and with ink to add any marks. Would create a new market and would make getting around the server you are on a bit easier. If you absolutely wanted to you could add a moving marker for you but it isn't necessary to make this a great idea TL;DR Introduce player-made maps that: - require 50 Papyrusmaking skill to make - has only the server it is made on and is blank except for the basic land - player adds markers with a reed pen and ink of where they think things are - Doesn't cross server borders If you have a legit reason this wouldn't work I would love to hear it, if not please don't reply saying it would take away from what wurm is.

    I think one big problem with this suggestion is.. current system creates old abandoned mines infested with creatures.. that means they are dangerous places as old mines should be. Would be a shame, if this would be changed. Maybe it is not the best idea, but I know Darkfall had a system, which spawned NPCs only when players were close. Maybe that would help in Wurm, especially with creatures in all those abandoned places. Just save them to a database and load them only when someone enters the area.

    I´m not against your idea, but i also think is part of a sandbox game to set your own goals. There is for example this guy, he has grinded 100 titles, and a couple of others that reached 100.00 in a skill. Idk if i will go for the 100 titles one, but i want to try to go for 100.00 in some skills if i can. There is people doing events like the impalongs, or the figthing competition, wel maybe you can make that your long term goal, to create and host some kind of festival. Or maybe try to get a lot of people into some mega project in your server, something big and requiring the colaboration of most of the people in that server. I think the lacking of automated quest and goals is what makes wurm so unique, provided you can think "out of the box".

    allowing unknown sources just means that it isnt on the app store. I have a few apps that needed that enabled for Plus you can always get an anti virus for your phone, there's several free ones. Ive noticed that this is actually faster than my browser is at looking things up. he also has it set up so that you can go by catagories instead of searching if youd like.

    Just spent whole day watching all the vids back to back. 8 am till 2 am. my birth day. I asked my wife for my gift to be her and the kids of visit grandparents so i could just enjoy peace and quit and play wurm. had a huge digging leveling project to do. and watched all the vids on my tv while playing. was enjoyable. kinda the best B-day i had in a long time. one thing i noticed was your house vid was pre 1.0 I hope to see post 1.0 multi store / Donut style vid some day. I just started first one. 3 holes in it for garden/ pray area, look forward to more vids. edited my spelling can tell i've been up many hours

    HAha, seriously? Calm down. His/her deeding there is in no way breaking a rule. You guys are upset because he doesn't want to move? I wouldn't either. He deeded the place for a reason, probably cause he liked it. If you guys want to go and build 3453454 fences go right ahead. As was mentioned if you don't but gatehouses frequently someone will be within their right to come and bash/catapult in. You all are not within your rights to harass the guy for his choice of deed placement.

    Sorry I just can't believe people try to play dumb and act like you don't know what is a bug is. It's the same jokers in BL-Elevation who got Thievery and Stealing up to 99.98 and then went, "oops well thought it was okay." Really? That's laughable stuff, anyone doing that knew it was an exploit of a bug and misuse of game mechanic skill gain. Sorry but bugs are obvious in Wurm, it's easy to see what is intended and not. I'm so tired of people going around acting innocent and naive as if they don't realize what is intended. If someone seriously needs to hold your hand and tell you what is right and wrong, you should look into a different game because this one has a lot of "honor system" in it, it's dependent upon players reporting and not taking advantage of obviously glitches in the codes.

    Have you considered linking the effective strength of guards to the number of villagers and village allies within the perimeter of the deed? Say you have 5 guards, and no villagers or allies on deed. The spirit guards are fairly weak, but still able to defend against a weak attack reasonably well. A raid will stomp them. Now imagine that every villager or ally logged on and within the deed perimeter increases the defensive power of guards along a curve. 1 player adds 50% power, 2 players adds 75% power, three adds 87.5% power, etc. Those are sample numbers by the way. Now you have 5 guards and 10 players defending. The guards are going to be nearly twice as powerful defensively but not offensively. It's up to the players to add to offensive power. This encourages defenders to actually show up because simply being present makes a real difference.

    An in-game voting system would be cool. Just allow only one vote per account, IP, and MAC Address, and I think it'll be a good way to get some decent feedback from in-game players.

    Sending carebears with claws back to freedom is the only solution that should really be discussed if I was allowed to decide topics. From http://wurmonline.com/about.php : The Epic PvP cluster offers a lot of opportunities to fight and compete with other players. Notice it says to Fight and Compete: VERB Strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same. Killing, looting, thrashing, destroying and doing your best to not have it happen to you is why some of us joined wurm on a pvp server. It is a risk (some like me call it a challenge) you have to face and I for one think it is a poor reflection on a player who is using alts/merchants to protect their gear if they are on a PVP server. Maybe it is not cheating but it sure is not something I would consider the act of a PVPer because it reeks like a carebear trying to live in a PVP world to me. Spirit guards, tower guards, more walls, locks, and access lists are the protection systems players should be using to protect your gear. But if you need a zero chance to lose your stuff so badly that you are willing to use an alt maybe you should be on a PVE server...because the world some of you want is not what some of us want. I pay to play PVP not some form of PVE modified PVE.

    Here's the problem: Rolf obviously wants his Wurm-PVP to be considered the ultimate loot all scenario. But since he doesn't play the game himself, he is left to listen to the idiots um, players, that want to ###### everyone of everything and ends up ruining any potential for a PVP environment that people will actually be excited about playing. I wish people would learn that risk and reward does not have to be extreme to be fun. In fact, almost no MMO to date has been able to provide this ridiculous "nothing safe" environment and survived for very long. The ones that have only have a mere handful of players and that's all they will EVER have.

    I do agree with that point, and is the exact reason why i don't play pvp. Don't really fancy having my stuff taken by someone attacking me while i'm off-line. But Keldun's suggestion at least would give you a fighting chance, although you're not on. I've avoided giving my input on the main topic, because i don't play pvp, so really can't judge. But hell, here goes: If raiding people while they're offline, draining their deed and looting their stuff is a valid strategy, i don't see why using alts and merchants should be an issue. I mean its like the bully crying to his mommy that the kid he was bullying hid the lunch money before he could steal it.

    Sounds like a pretty bad idea to me. 1. There are no merchant exploits on home servers, it's alts that are getting exploited for safe storage. There's no need to use merchants for storage - thus nerfing merchants will do nothing for limiting safe storage. 2. There is no widespread support for this at all. There seems to be support from Elevation players, please do not confuse Elevation players with Epic players. The majority of Epic players does not play on Elevation.

    Please revert. For people who make bulk lamps for sale alone this is a bad revision. Near a forge you need to have anvil and water barrel and bulk bin. That is 4 alone. make 5 lamps to drop and you are out of space. I understand what you are trying to do but please find a better way.
