Or better, make small cart and put Protunia inside. Then push that cart from slope. and then remove this 5 items on tile limit, it is horrible solution

... I have not adequate words to express my displeasure Please revert this. It detracts tremendously from gameplay. For many, myself included, wurm is enjoyed mainly as a sandbox game and this makes *no* sense in that light. As is shown in a number of posted screen shots, we take great delight in arranging our things creatively and making things just so. This update is asinine. If we can no longer do this then what is the point anymore? I don't want to log onto a game and be restricted to these 5 (or 10 or 15, you get the point) "decoration" limitations. I have no interest in playing a game that ends up amounting to grindiing skills and wandering around an ugly house looking at sparce tiles filled with ugly containers to hold things that I would have liked to have on the tile for both decorative and functional purposes. I wholeheartedly agree with Alyeska - "Please work on actual optimization of the code to reduce rendering lag, not workaround it by putting in hard caps on what we can drop on a tile. And don't come up with some half assed "fix" by increasing the cap, just remove the damn cap entirely. It's not needed and just frustrating.' And also with Xallo, "Instead of limiting decorational items, just don't allow people to add more things into item piles unless the entire tile has less than 100 items, including decorational items. This is probably why people were 'losing' stuff. They didn't realize by removing a few mixed grass from their pile that the rest of the hidden stuff would show up again." If having rooms decorated as beautifully as those posted is living in too much "clutter" to be allowable (as the current game message states when the limit of 5 is reached) then I must say I am losing much interest in this game and it's capabilities. This is not even to mention how inconvient this new "fix" can be (for instance having to rummage through piles of things in containers to find the one you are looking for... whereas before you could have simply set them where you wished and easily located them by sight) I'd also like to point this out from the wurmonline main page: "Welcome to Wurm, the game of limitless opportunity and freedom, where the actions of every player can make a lasting difference. We offer no character classes, quests or a pre-built environment. Instead, we offer players the opportunity to choose their own direction and to train any or all of the skills they desire while living in a breathing and evolving world entirely built and maintained by the players that inhabit it. Become a part of our active and involved community, and play the game you want to play in the way you want to play it! This is Wurm. Be prepared to leave your mark. Try it now for free!' If this is the way wurm will go then I think the description of the game needs to be changed stat. I am disgusted by an update of this type in what was such an immersive, limitless sandbox game.

Well..Body stats already have an impact on this. Higher str = less penalty when carrying more. Body stam = self explanatory

There used to be a MOTD ingame for updates, it was called /news and would be opened up when you logged in. It's gone since I think before Independence was released. I really would love to see it back instead since I don't always read the updates before logging in. So +1 to a global dev update, ally and PMK MOTD. And thanks devs for the village MOTD.

Changes should never be made solely on the basis of the economy players themselves drive. Also, when did dirt itself ever have a value? As long as I've been playing, any payment for supplies of dirt was payment for the actions and delivery of the dirt.

Also need a setting where it can be changed by other than those with Modify Settings permission (shouldnt be able to modify all settings just to change MOTD)

Let me start with ..... I am a newb, playing less than two months. I want to give a different perspective - if the OP ever reads this perhaps they could take something from it. (Wall of text warning, short attention spans scroll to the bottom) My first three deaths were to falling - it was annoying but I learned fast what I was doing wrong. My first death to an animal? I was traveling too quickly and not paying attention, went to an uninhabited portion of an island, went over a hill and ran into multiple critters. The results?, never found that corpse, probably wouldn't have been able to get to it if I did. What did I learn? Be more careful in low and underpopulated areas. I found a quiet area and built some basic equipment, struggled to build a small cart, thought I was doing good - logged in one day to find a lot of my stuff missing. Lesson: build a place to live with an enclosure to protect the stuff I want to keep. Found a nice place that I thought I wanted to live - hung out in the area for a while got to talking with people in local. Found out someone already had plans for that location but helped me find a place I could build nearby. Started to build some stuff and one day someone else had deeded the property. I was a bit frustrated and hadn't built a "proper" enclosure yet, but engaged the person in conversation, they invited me to the village and all is going well. Lesson: Deed it or loose it (or talk nice and maybe they will let you join them). I have worked mostly solo on things - digging, mining, growing food and cotton, cutting (and replanting) trees, making tools and equipment. I engage in conversation with the neighbors so don't consider myself to be a true hermit (very low population in village). Decided to give critter killing a try (after I made sure to have cotton and a few basic healing covers) - near zero skill, no armor and a staff - rats were hard to take down so I made myself a short sword - rats are no problem now. I have also learned the art of running from higher mobs and if that doesn't work heading for the nearest guard tower and yelling help - the guards don't care if you help take down the beasts. Oh and don't piss off unicorns!!!! I found the free play good - but went premium within two weeks to see the mechanics beyond skill 20 in whatever I was doing. I have dual monitors on my computer, one has Wurm the other has the Wiki always open. I also watch the CE channel more than any other and learn a lot from the questions of others and ask the occasional one myself. I make mistakes - I learn from them, pick up the pieces (or corpse) and move on. If I were to give any input it would be the same as many - including staff - have already said, more work on the tutorial. A little work on the lag issues would be nice too, but for the most part not a deal breaker. My take on the game? It has quirks, I like most of the quirks. It has a different feel than any other mmo I have ever played, it feels good. The pace is what you make it, you are not forced on endless quests (I hate quests, EQ2 burned me out on those long ago) If I want pvp I can go to the pvp server, if not I can go about my business. It is not catered to the cries of every "i can't do this", "it's not fair", "i can't compete with the veteran players" Will I continue to play - you bet. Sorry for the long winded post.

This thread is made to announce recent known bugs, and how to avoid it and what to do if you have it. Players are free to post a link to a recent bug thread if they feel it's needed to inform everyone. I will remove if it's fixed. Known Bugs Refreshing wallsHow to avoid it: Do not attempt to try to combine or add to existing buildings. If you have it: Wait for a fix if it's possible, do not destroy.Random house plans appearing and bugged other housesHow to avoid it: Tends to happen with buildings that have plans still, so finish the plans and do not make more if it will not be finished soon.If you have it: Wait for a fix, do not destroy.Invisible house plans that prevent planning or terraformingHow to avoid it: Tends to happen when you destroy a bugged building that shares with the other bugged buildings. Do not destroy. If you have it: Wait for a fix, do not destroy writ to the invisible houses.Missing walls, floors and roofsHow to avoid it: Finish any buildings that have plans still, do not plan if you do not plan to finish them soon.If you have it: Do a /support ingame and hope for reimbursements, do not destroy. Do not attempt to finish anything with the bugged building.Part 1: Can't remove plans due to "collapsing section" even though nothing would be floating/collapsing (Not exactly a bug, will move this)How to avoid it: Make sure to plan everything you want perfectly. If you have it: Wait for a fix, or put wall plans to support "hanging" floor or roof plans. "Hanging" floor/roof plan is only being supported by another floor/roof plan. Once all the hanging floor/roof plans are supported with wall plans, you can then remove them.Part 2: Can't remove plans due to "collapsing section" even though nothing would be floating/collapsing (Not exactly a bug, will move this)How to avoid it: Make sure to plan everything you want perfectly. If you have it: Wait for a fix, or if there is a wall/roof/floor plan that is not supported by any floors or walls at north or west side of the tile, you can not remove anything until you add them to support it. e.g. A roof with fences all around it below. Can not remove roof until you destroy north or west fence and add a wall plan to support the roof.Sailing while leading animals cause crashesHow to avoid it: Lower settings or lead few at a time.If you have it: Wait for a fix or lead few at a time.Missing house writs/keys (Rare bug)How to avoid it: Avoid crossing servers. If you have it: If you are absolutely sure it's missing due to a bug, do /support.Passengers on large cart stuck on teleporting loopHow to avoid it: Make sure passenger is on permission for everything they need to cross. (Gates, houses, etc.). Don't disembark near walls/fences.If you have it: If teleporting, just log off for /lotime. If still stuck, /support.Unable to remove house tiles after 1.1 summer patch. How to avoid it: Can't just remove, so don't add tiles unless you want it.If you have it: Wait for fix. Destroy building and replan if can't wait.Mobs unable to swim die from drowningHow to avoid it: Avoid being in caves that is close to the water layer. If you have it: Get the mobs out immediately before they die from drown wound.Concrete raises rock layer, but doesn't get updated when making mine entrancesHow to avoid it: Avoid using concrete or mine entrances on them.If you have it: Wait for fix, or don't make entrances or convert tiles into dirt.Thread may be locked if needed.

I'm one of those people that likes to run all my games through Steam, whether i bought them from Steam or not. Most of you are aware that you can add Non-Steam games to your library from the Games dropdown at the top. However to launch Wurm you either need to visit this website, or save the JNLP file to your computer and double click from there. Steam wont allow you to add jnlp files though, only exe's. for those of you on windows you can turn the wurm jnlp client into an exe by running iexpress from the start menu. (start, run iexpress or for vista and later users, start typing iexpress in the search bar). but for those of you not savvy enough, i've attached an exe that automatically runs the jnlp from the wurmonline site. this exe can then be added to your non-steam games list... but guess what!? THE STEAM OVERLAY WORKS! Anyway here's the link to the exe (quick guide to make it yourself is after the screenshot if you dont trust my exe) http://www.mediafire...45s6u25tmiworsr and a screeny with the overlay: Quick Guide to make the exe yourself (windows only) just run iexpress from the start>run or the search bar create new self extraction extract files and run give it a name like "Wurm Online" no prompt no license adding package files-- for some reason you cannot have an empty exe. stick anything in here. an empty txt file or an image (i just used the icon as it was to hand) and click next under install program add this: javaws "http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp" click next Hidden no message tell it the place and filename of the exe you want to be made. you can hide the extraction bit too so it's totally silent and seamless no restart dont save finish edit the icon with an editor and image of your choice. voila!

Well since these last couple of updates, i dont know if anyone else has noticed, but wurm clients have become more laggy. I've noticed i cant run 3 or even 4 clients as well as i could before the past 2/3 updates what have gone through. And i haven't changed any setting, I've been running the same settings for the past year. And this is what i pull from task manager So i ask, where is the optimization so desperately needed since the graphic updates etc?

Item count now works per layer in a structure. Due to the rendering issues this may cause, you may only put 5 non-pile items (we call them decorations) per floor level tile in a house. You may now rename gifts with the proper player name The creator tag length was increased You may now create a logon message to all your villagers in village settings View the tumblr article

Fairly simple idea. Let people withdraw their banked money from any npc trader and/or merchant. Useful for pvp/pve servers wherein the merchant/trader is not near the token. Edit: Note this says withdraw, not deposit.

Give her a time, give yourself a time. Then rethink, of everything, including your life goals. There always sacrifice, can't have everything.. to what extends you will compromise? To what extend loved one will be for you? Or to what extend helping the country will be for you? Can't put any advice on the romance parts, I don't have much experiences with them.

Firstly, a girl like that would have seen your enlistment as you making an active choice to abandon her. Totally understandable for her to seek a man who isn't going to run away to the other side of the world to leave her to look after herself. Secondly, if you died in combat, what about her? Did you ever think about that? Don't you think that maybe she was hurt that you care more about what you want, enlistment, than you do about looking after her? Finally, you just have to live with the consequences of your choices. If she doesn't want to come back because you choosing to abandon her hurt her *that* much, then you just have to live with it and move on. Sorry mate, not meaning to be negative, but I've known enough people like your ex-girlfriend and been through similar things myself to know how people like this think.

I would probably use it to close distance with archers. You wouldn't have to grind it, just like climbing its a lvl as you use it. You just get more efficient at it.

While I don't entirely disagree with this....I do for the most part. Every player has a different idea of what is important. Open the flood gates and there will be many a years worth of ideas to work on at once. Voicing the opinion to see how many people agree eh, sure. But I don't expect much more then that most of the times. Rolfs managed to make it this far against a horde of cookie cutter games & not give in to their ways. I would guess that he has a firm grasp on what needs to be done. In the grand scheme of things I would guess a writ book (which has been suggested before..multiple times...) is fairly low on the list. It would be a perk but there are other things more time demanding.
  32. 1 point
How about adding Writ booklets? I have 51writs on my character and increasing... What will happen if I get over 100 of them total Any ways? Would hate to see that they just right out vanish due to item count limit....
  33. 1 point
No it wouldn't.. Not if Rolf wants people to construct nice looking places. These decorations are tools people use to make their deed unique. I just took a quick stroll around my deed and tried to list all the different items I could find that are now capped items. Small barrels, Large barrels, Large chests, Small chests, Beds, Coffins, Forges, Ovens, Foodbins, Bulkbins, Lamps (several types), Candelabras (four types), Statuettes (five types), Mailboxes (four types), Bow racks, Armour stands, Polearms racks, Weapon Racks, Wine barrels, Huge tubs, Oil tubs, Looms, Tables (several types), Chairs (two types), Stools, Benches, Meditating rugs (four types), Altars (four types), Banners, Flags, Large Anvils, Magic chests (two types), Signs (three types), Wells, Fountains (two types), Epic portals, Statues of all sorts, Christmas trees, Giftboxes, Archery targets, Hota statues of all sorts, Lanterns (two types), Christmas gifts (gnomes and fireworks). Then there were the odd items that I wouldn't consider decorational, but will no go into piles so are also limited, items such as dredges, necklaces, felled trees, bracelets, pendulums, cauldrons, rafts - even corpses. That's quite the list IMO, and that's just what I found on my deed. It's such a waste to have all these various decorations if we are limited to how many and where we can use them, for the sake of a "fix" that doesn't seem to do anything. I don't have any improved performance from this, at all.

And you want to overhaul Wurm completely and you can't understand why people are against you?
  35. 1 point
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! You crack me up. 1, this is the forums, not school, so enough with the essays. 2, THIS IS NOT YOUR GAME, not ONLY you play it, and we don't want this to become something else, WE LIKE WURM AS IT IS! 3, Get a job at a newspaper company as a columnist, you overdramatize and they'd love you. 4, The OPs idea is utterly stupid, and would change wurm for the worse. IF YOU WANT WURM TO BECOME THAT MINECRAFT MOD, GO AWAY AND GO PLAY THAT MOD!!!! We don't want wurm to become some minecraft mod, and you obviously seem to LOVE that mod, so GO and play it. 5, this thread has gone on WAY too long.
  36. 1 point
Ayes, I was curious about the same thing. On my retesting, I did find that piles do not count as decorations, so yes Ayes, you can have a pile on the same tile with 5 non-pile items. This still causes me issues with all my barrels of dye, wine, syrup, oil, etc. Forcing me to consider a much larger building or going multistory, which I didn't want in my warehouse.

Being poisoned should make you feel sick until you heal the poison. Just thinking of all the joys that come with being sick, I'm sure something suitable can be found in there. Slower stamina regain or faster stamina drain, throwing up, not being able to eat, the list goes on...
  42. 1 point
It consistantly sickens me that the community of this game rabidly jumps on amy person who so much as voices an opinion that this games' core mechanics could use some serious overhaul. Think for a second. You're thrown in a world where the only way to survive is to buy expensive gear and fight the weakest animals (usually weeks after starting), or to build practice dolls and stand in one place for hours on end hoping when you're done, you'll be capable of fending off something as scary as a rat. PvP mechanics take zero accounting for personal skill, behind the keyboard. It's all numbers in the background, luck, and a few easily manipulated "+1's" to you're chances. Add to that, the ability to smash someone's weeks/months of work in a matter of hours. As I've said, as many have said... core mechanics in this game need SERIOUS overhaul. So jumping on someone and joining in the beatdown when they voice such thoughts is pretty far off base. OP : If you've even bothered checking up on this forum since posting, contact me. I'm set up on Exodus server and can easily give you an intoduction to the game and a much more positive start. Not all of us are rabid.

Get over yourself already. OP is right. The combat system does suck, it always has. Rolf has been told for years about it. It's not as much a "L2P" issue as it is a issue with how players are accustomed to fighting in other MMOs/games, and then they come here, and guess what? They die. Why? Because new Players coming from other MMOs assume that as a low level character you will be able to kill stuff outside and around the starting area, as all other (most other mainstream) MMOs are designed for them to do. Every other mainstream MMO has designed their combat so new characters can kill stuff and live from the second they start Playing and now when a Player posts here with their confusion about Wurm and it's design and you wonder why??? As you say "if YOU think you can kill all things as a NOOB, then its your fault!".... no it's NOT their fault, it is a difference in game design more than anything else. Wurm isn't designed like other MMOs and thank the Gods it's not but ....Not all new Players realize this because as the OP points out the tutorial does NOT teach combat, so new Players don't know how Wurm combat really works until a bear bites them in the ass. Yes... new Players need to adapt and overcome, to learn how Wurm combat works.... *AND* ... No ....new Players don't need Wurm Staff members telling them to "L2P". This isn't some console game. Have some professional bearing and try an remember that as a Staff member you influence Wurm's future more than all the posts I or other Players ever posted here. If you want Wurm to have a future with Wurm acquiring and keeping new Players than I suggest a different customer service approach may be in order. Better to take them under your wing and teach them how Wurm's combat works rather than just telling them "L2P".
  44. 1 point
I think this is where you started failing to get the idea, that perhaps fighting everything you see with a rusty shortsword is not the way. This is what "WoW" and other superhero creators turn people into, they jump into any game and immediately assume they need to fight everything, loot golden epic superswords and be heroes of the universe. If OP ends up reading this, the correct way was: make yourself a place and secure some food source, start crafting, make yourself decent armor and weapons, train combat/weapon skills on dummy/trees, grow yourself a supply of cotton and then move to fight easy targets. It's not that complicated. Although I agree, that above should be somewhat hinted by tutorial, for the people who prefer to bash their head over walls instead of going around.
