Good Youtube review here: [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueIzp5w2QzY Reviewer has 85K followers, and currently 76 players on GV, not sure what it is normally but that seems high. 82 on GV now.

I gave him a sub lets see if he puts out more content about Wurm. I am always interested in seeing Wurm related YouTube stuff it is always fun to see everyones prospective on the game and I like to watch them when I am mining or something. This is one reason I think we need a media forum section a place were we can post up screenshots and also gives a place for people to promote their video stuff too. It might even prompt more players to start making Wurm related videos and sharing them on YouTube.

I voted yes, I never played Wild, when I started playing Wurm Wild was seen as being in decline, or at best, stagnant, with lower and lower numbers as time went on, and this was before Epic went live. The only reason I didn't try Wild back then was the low population, so I went to Epic on day one, to try out the PvP servers, and had a great time, not because of the PvP, but in spite of it, the ever present menace of other players in local, the fact that anywhere you went the enemy could turn up and stomp you into the ground along with breaking down what you'd spent time building gave Wurm an added edge. I also visited Chaos, shortly after it joined freedom isles, and it was a sad and abandoned place, full of the echos of war, but somehow reduced, and neutered. So bring it back, return the sparks of life it had, give those who lived, and died, and struggled, what they need, give them back the reason for Wild, PvP, find a way to fix it, PMK's, Return the Black Light, anything to make it clear who the enemy is. Those who want to play Wurm in peace, free from PvP and all it entails need only stay out of Chaos, there are plenty other servers.

I think some of the whining was because when Epic was released Wild suddenly became the land that time forgot, I've never played on Wild but for years I was content them doing their thing there and myself doing my thing on Freedom, even when people tossed out the excuses that the population was too low for it to be bothered with some of the Epic servers struggled to double the numbers on that server. God knows us Freedom players can make 18 page threads about enchanted grass nerfs or some poor soul caught having more than 27 horses, I fail to see the need to attempt to kick over their sandcastle.

Just as the title says. When someone is put on /ignore, lump emotes in with it. Some people find the offensive emotes hilarious. The occasional can be funny... but after a while, it does seem to get a bit stale. If asking nicely has no effect, and offering mortar at an attempt at humor has no effect, and asking a tad more forcefully doesn't help... It would be nice to have the /ignore option rather than implementing various plans to make the discomfort as mutually unpleasant as possible. Just a thought, so that "live and let live" can prevail.

The Problem with that would be that there would be people making lots of alt chars and get them one-time prem to let them plot down a super small deed with a trader on it. Then we will have areas where 4+ of such deeds are blocking the landscape, just for having this much traders. I prefer it how it is now... the system we have now is a really good compromise. I also dont like the change that vroom wants to have. As he is writing he wants to have it for new players... and there are quite some reasons why this will hamper the gameplay for ne players and not make it any better... here some facts. 1. As some already said, most public Traders have their ratio borked initially and so they get nearly no new money. Exception is people buying a trader-form for example which adds around 8-12,5s to the coffers of the trader (I think its something around this value, was last time I checked it for someone). 2. If a new player does invest the 50s (which he most of the time bought) at some point for the trader, then its just fair to have something for an investment this large. You will need months to get the silver back anyway, just to be even and then after this period the silver return is not UBER. 3. Trader-milking helps quite some people to being able to afford playing wurm... period. If there would be no trader-system as of today there qould be quite some deeds that vanish and players quitting... not just because of ragequits, but just as of the simple fact it would make the game too expensive for them to play the way they did till the change. Sure they could join a village and all that, but many people dont like this and I can understand this. 4. You need to constantly play in order to get any money from a trader. What quite some people dont know... the trader ratio resets every 28 RL days (aroundish). Then you have to get a good ratio up and running again, so the trader then can get some new silvers for the next time-period. As I did read some about Wurm History in the past it was like there was no trader-ratio reset so people could stop playing wurm for some months and had full traders (50s) when they came back. It is a good thing this was changed as such a system did just favor the semi-active vets and also you could stumble over a trader in the wilderness which had 50s... which to me seems like an impact on the economy. But not the system as we have it today. 5. Vroom you would NOT help "new" players with killing traders as they are now today. You would just buff the economy (and that just as a MAYBE, later more) for players like yourself, Veterans that can make everything theirselves and sell it. Other people would be doomed to buy silver from the Rolf-Shop (which quite some cant or dont want to afford, which means losing playernumbers which is always bad), or to make slave work for it. But this would be just the initial situation, in the longrun it would also ruin the economy for vets, because there would be in general much less silver and that would lead to prices dropping... no one would buy a steel pickaxe with all the good buffs for 8s (8 Euros from the Rolf-shop). As a sidenote ---> Because I did not want to slave for someone to get some small silvers, I did buy a Trader when I was a new player and it did quite help some. It did help some with my deed and I am still buying premium time from Rolf... so its a win-win for both factions... for the player and for Rolf. If I could not play like this (trader-change), Wurm would again make my workload to maintain what I have even bigger, which would then lead to me leaving the game and try another game or revisiting an old one. Which would end the win-win situation for me and Rolf in this small example as I would stop buying premium time from him and so he will lose revenue. There are quite some examples what this change would lead to and it would be not a good course for the game. Like I did write I think it might hit the economy for everyone really hard, as people usually would not spend 8 Euro on a good pickaxe (I would honestly not... for a deed-upkeep or premtime I would). Also there are more than 1 reason why it would hit players of all layers and I think we would lose quite some, which is always bad for a MMO. For example I mentioned "Workload"... there were quite some changes in the past that did add to the workload of people and most were not wanted by the majority of people... like the Famous Olive Oil Barrel (in the state it was at the beginning, big bummer. now with the changes a nice addition)... ^^ One thing some people have to understand is that Wurm IS a game and there are many wurm-players that dont want to LIVE in Wurm... we enjoy our reallife also and want to play quite some hours of the Wurm, but we dont want to do it like +80% of our freetime... Another thing is it would again restrict the game some more to people that can and WANT to pay for everything in the wurm with hard RL cash. When I see some of the changes made in games I always wonder... why adding restrictions that in the end turn players away?! Why not add ADDITIONS so everyone can find a playstyle that he does like. This is one of the golden rules for a really successful game. And dont say now "because devs need money blabla"... I have seen quite some games where devs did restrict their game so people had to pay for everything a lot of RL cash in an ingame-shop + a monthly subscription and in the end it did turn away a lot of players... as a relative "new" and good example we can look for this at Star Trek Online. They have quite some problems over there with the gameplay and content and such... but one of the biggest bummers at release was for many people the monthly sub + an ingame Item Shop. Many friends that I did ask "Hey wanna join me in STO said no because of having 2 systems where you have to stuff money in". And for Wurm its the same... sure 5Euro sub each month is not that big... but then you need this and that and one of these and then you have 2 choices... working ingame as a slave or pay RL cash for it. For quite some people both are not a option if they already have to pay a monthly sub (no matter if its 5 or 10 Euro or whatever). Raising the cost, is always turning players away and in the MMO Business its like this... devs live from the MASS of players... its also included in the game-genre name Massively Multiplayer Online and so on. Or in other words... what was better? Having 400 people online the same time that all pay sub and stuff or having the player numbers from today where some pay nothing (F2P or they have their traders) but most pay partially (like me) and some still pay full (but then most of the time they just have 1-2 chars, maybe no deed and so their "Full"-Pay is not as much as my or others amount they pay partially (in real numbers). To make a long story short... I think Rolf is best advised when someone says "Leave it as it is".

I know you were talking to Zarma and not me, but I do. Technically PvP is only flinging arrows at each other and cutting each other up with swords, but I'd wager the times we had the most PvP was purely because of people who had built deeds, towers or whatever. Some examples; LO Landbridge vs CV Water Works/Kyara vs Thunderdome/RD (this was fantastic fun, MR on the doorstep of Kyara!) Gates of Hell versus Gates of Heaven Sparta vs DC/Helmsdeep HaP vs Rivendell Fight to capture the WL ... probably more I can't think of instantly. These were more than likely the times when Wild had more PvP than ever, and it was only possible because people chained towers and built deeds - in all instances one side wanted to capture more land and the other wanted to resist them, if there was no possiblity to capture land none of those fights would have ever happened. Now you can just walk up to any deed and plant a deed on the doorstep and with zero effort you have a respawn point and raid camp, where is the fun in that? To me PvP by itself is not extremely attractive, there needs to be a reason to PvP and land claiming is/was one of my biggest personal motivations, some other things to consider is on Chaos currently there are "outpost" deeds all over the place, in many cases right in the heart of enemy kingdoms, if there is no way to remove them every time either side poses a challenge the other side will just run back to their deed, this has always been a issue on Chaos but it's amplified with irrimovable outpost deeds all over the place.

You accused people of having their own agendas, and I turned it around on you. If you don't like being shot at, don't shoot at people. Or, you know, there's the obvious "appease the majority of players". People want PvP. There are many people who are non-active or hardly active because they want PvP. I know a lot of people on Epic who would be active on Wild if it had PvP. There is a reason that everytime someone mentions PvP in k-chat, it turns into a discussion about how we all desperately want it back. There's a reason that, when a poll is called, 85% of the population votes in favor of change towards PvP, and the other 15% claims they're wrong or cheating. Wild was, and in essence, still is a PvP server. If you want all of your assets to be safe- and I respect this style of play just as much as my own- then go to another server. You knew the risk when you joined Wild. You were not tricked. You yourself once PvPed. The fact of the matter is that, even though your opinion about PvP may have changed, the core population of Wild- the people that are here, and have been here for years- still want to enjoy the servers most attractive mechanic. We want the challange of fighting against other players, and we want the familiar, entertaining strife that we used to share. While YOU may roll over if we show up at your gates, there's tons of people that won't. Raiding will bring back PvP, and it's the only clear solution. Finally, I would like to point out that this is a thread about expanding PvP on Wild. It does not mention how it's going to change, but it does show that change is coming. It asked us what we wanted- more PvP, or none at all. No matter what form it takes, I will want PvP. Now that the population has spoken, I'm sure we're on the way to progress. Wild deeds were built to last. They were built for challanges, and they were built to defend against seiges. Still, they constantly fell. Deeds we thought unraidable- ones sitting on mountains, surrounded by walls, with no obvious way to enter, have been destroyed and looted. A deed without players to defend it is just a dirt wall waiting to be flattened. And still, some of have stood strong. Valhala was virutally impenetrable, even though we seiged it daily. Nonetheless, the fact that we WERE seiging it was the point. Everday you could find PvP, and the server was alive with action. People made plans to push, and the battle lines were redrawn weekly. Seiging- raiding villages and making opposing bunkers- stimulates PvP. People will come to defend their deeds and to defend their friends deeds, or to invade others.

A few weeks ago when charcoal piles were made to show damage before they were lit, charcoal piles were nerfed and starting producing a lot less charcoal. They now produce roughly half the charcoal that they used to at a given quality. Charcoal is already annoying enough to make, cutting down 3-5 entire trees just to get enough good ql logs for a decent ql pile only to get 8-10 charcoal is unnecessary. The amount of work put in compared to the output is absurd. Please unnerf charcoal piles and return them to the previous output.

I have thought about this for a long time and with the new graphics overhaul now seems a good time to bring this up. Gilding is the action to apply leaf such as gold or silver leaf to an item. In this case the idea would simply "skin" an item with a new graphics skin. Items can range from armor, weapons, tools, etc. Essentially the possibility is endless as all metals can go through this process in the real world. Gilding is known to have existed in the Egyptian and Ancient Greek eras and thus would easily fit into the Wurm setting. So how would this process work in Wurm. First a gold sheet would need to be created which already exists in wurm. http://wurmpedia.com/index.php/Gold_sheet Then this sheet would need to be pressed thin using a new tool (rolling mill) which would impact the Gilding skill with use. This next action is normally called "Goldbeating" and has been around for more than 5,000 years in the real world and was started by Egyptian artisans. This thin gold sheet is then cut into squares. By combining two papyrus sheets http://wurmpedia.com/index.php/Papyrus_sheet and one thin gold square the gold is then beaten on a large marble block (thanks for the new marble Rolf) creating an even thinner gold squares. Typically a 15 pound hammer was used for this. This is then cut into 4 pieces with a knife and placed in a packet called a shoder. A shoder is made from the outer membrane of a calf's intestine and this could be an added item when buchering a calf or skipped due to the complexity of the process. The Shoder is then beaten again to further thin the gold into leaf. The leaf is then cut using a wooden tool called a wagon which has very sharp blades. Finally the leaf is ready for the gilding process and can be applied to almost any surface. Some of the oldest methods requires heating the item to which the leaf is applied then pressing it to the item. In Wurm we could simply activate the leaf and apply to a glowing hot item. Leaf would be a combinable item and items can use different amounts of leaf to complete the process. Metal leaf is usually made of gold, silver, copper, or brass and thus could serve many uses for skins within Wurm. This process would serve as a unique profession as well as allow players to have gold leaf weapons, armor, and much more. The uses for this could always be expanded upon down the road and help give Wurm a better immersion into character customization. This would however, require a lot of work in the art department as well as coding to accomplish. Please let me know what you think of this as I would like to see as much feedback as possible.

I don't know, I might be the only one, but some of the buildings I'm seeing in the multistory pic thread are just so wrong for Wurm. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the extra floors and some people have made lovely creations. It's just the office blocks and sky scrapers that bother me. When multistory was in development I had though that maybe 3 or 4 floors would be the max with high carpentry - not what we've got out there today! Even that high looks bad with a large floor plan. I know realism is scoffed at when bought up in discussion, but these huge buildings just break my immersion. How is this wilderness survival when people live in massive (empty) palaces? I know it won't get changed, now it's already implemented. Just wondered if I was the only one that feels this way.

Interesting. This is sort of the remnants of the old way of building where when you plan the ground floor you get the wall plans in the outer parts of the building. They always fall back to the wall plan on the bottom floor, but the floors above and the inner walls provide a removable wall plan. We need some logic to provide prevent people build floating buildings in order to be able to remove one or two supporting plans from the lower floor. We could also provide just two simple matching columns as a new type of "open" wall type that would fit into this style of building. Any thoughts? Edit: Saroman beat me to it

I'm not sure where disagreeing with your future plan of traders makes me non new player friendly, unlike you I'd like to believe new players are smart enough after some time spent playing to decide whether or not a Trader is in their best interests to purchase as I did as a new player, only the initial investment stops other players from doing the same wrong you so adamantly believe those with them are doing, the decision to opt in or not is solely up to the individual instead of deciding that if everyone doesn't have one it must be put to a stop, I believe Rolf will decide what is in the best interest of the game for Traders and players will decide on their own whether or not to participate.
  19. 2 points
Personally I think all players that bought a trader should be reimbursed their 50s and those traders eliminated. Replace them with a trader at every village that must be kept open to the public. I don't care that this would destroy an old mechanism of the game, it's been a private cash cow for too many for too long.

Protest on Pristine A peaceful protest turned ugly outside the newly opened Natural Substance Abuse Clinic on Pristine today. Dozens of local villagers armed with signs and weapons formed a picket line in front of the entrance to the NSAC, denying entry to anyone that wanted to go in. After some screaming and shouting, a fight broke out and Spirit Templars had to be called to the scene to break up the unauthorized gathering. The Clinic was created as a place for Wemp growers to use their product in peace and quiet. Clean, unused rope tools are given to the Wemp growers for free as they enter and they're allowed to produce their product in a private room, undisturbed. The protesters argue they don't want this type of person in their neighbourhood because there's a training academy for newbs just down the street. Another complaint is these types of buildings lower the property value of homes in the area. If you walk down any of the roads in the area you can easily score 1,000 kgs of Wemp for around 1 silver. The streets simply aren't safe for anyone any more. After all the dust settled, the crowd was cleared and ordered home. No arrests were made. Edit: pic went missing, re-upped it

Would be nice if there were the option to paint things like doors and trims. Now walls take 1kg to paint them, and (at least on wood walls) the texture/color variations pretty nice (much better than our previous flat walls). I have nothing against the way the walls look/take color now- and I think it would be best to keep this option there. Maybe to paint a door or window/other trim could require .25 or .5kg each -- and have the option to do this on top of an already colored wall- or to leave the basic wall uncolored and only do the trims? P.S.- Also wouldnt mind having sod roofing added

If this were to happen you wouldn't see any more large oak or willow boats. The fruit tree wood types would be uncommon, and we'd slowly see the rise of plain looking boats everywhere due to birch, pine, cedar, etc being easier to grow and cut enough wood for a boat from. Can't really say I'd like the mixing and matching of wood types. I prefer the way it is now where we can choose what wood type we want the boat to be by the last piece attached.

Wholeheartedly agree Gavin. So 85% of Wurms population wants PvP on Chaos - Lets hope Rolf changes Chaos now Looks like everyone here is of the opinion that Chaos needs more then just simply turning catapulting on, and instead, introduce PMK's. I can see so much benefit of player made kingdoms - The feeling of unity will return, the feeling of purpose will return, and the feeling of doing such and such for the Kingdom (creating missions for yourself and your fellow brothers) will return. Those things alone will bring more PvP to the server. Furthermore, it will remove bugs such as the trap bug where it hits the player not the horse purely because of the lack of kingdoms. PMK's will also completely eradicate the use of spy alts. Honestly hope rolf sees that the population wants full PvP to return to Chaos and hopefully in the form of Kingdoms

The biggest problem i always saw to Wild's Population was the fact that in the past you had to leave ALL items AND take a skill hit to go over there which puts ALOT of people off trying PvP if coming from the homeservers. That isn't the case anymore with open borders. My village has recruit nearly 10 people now from various freedom servers and I'd like to think they have all enjoyed it and I believe they have all voted in favor of allowing full raiding. With people able to try out PvP at their own leasure without making any full commitments would overall grow the population and bring success to the servers.

The statue models are part of the really old art assets Wurm has carried for years. I'm sure the time for an overhaul of the decoration items will come eventually, including both new models and systems for altering their appearance. With the recent additions of new rock types, now is a good a time as any.

True but at the same time, it's how on my first week of playing chaos Tonygreen and Zarma took mine. Was pretty shitty that the first player I ever saw in wurm ganked me for an affinity I had no clue I had. Some protection for newly made characters is needed. But you are right it can't be indefinite. Maybe change it to a time based thing, after 1-2 weeks the protection is removed?

Reasons I love wurm online 1. The ability to make anything I need yet if I Specialize in something. It can be a marketable trait 2. The fact the depth of the market system from just being trade in person or by a "Player Made" market hub This alone makes the game interesting to explore and check every market stall for deals and stuff i need 3. The ability to do nearly anything I want. Great sandbox 4. Terraforming. The ability to change the face of the world and it will be there till someone else lives there. Lol 5. Community. The player base in this game generally would nearly give you the shirt Off there back. Not cause they have to. But cause then can. This says a lot about the community x-) 6. As stated before sandbox. But. Freedom of playstyle. And the fact I can switch from epic to freedom At anytime of my Choosing via the "Player Made" epic gates -------- Thanks you, Notsodirt / Draygone

Whilst there hasn't been a huge amount of ideas regarding compensation there has been a ton of ideas on how Rolf can improve his procedural guidelines for applying a patch to the servers or major update (If he had any kind of procedure before hand?) Certainly some of the idea mentioned here in that regard would stop or reduce any possible problems 10 fold. Personally the thing I used to hate most was Friday updates, Rolf would seemingly update the game last thing friday, pack up his stuff and go home and be unreachable for the entire weekend. The players would be left to sweat out whatever problems would be with the client until monday. Now I entirely understand the importance of Family and RL etc, however the problem could be avoided by simply doing monday updates. Such a simple thing would make people so much happier. that said, I havn't seen a Friday update in awhile now which is comforting but i'm using this as an example of how poor implementation can alienate and hurt your player base. I'm hoping that Rolf is reading through these responses or you'll be able to pass on some of the better ideas to him Woosoo as it would go a long way I think to helping this game. As a note, Rolf if you do read this read I hope you understand that everyone here loves your game and appreciates the work you've done on it. If the game wasn't so great, allowing you to form attachments and place personal value on your animals and time in game. If this game wasn't so imersive and have such great potential and existing fun, people would be much less likely to care. Please take it as a compliment that some people are so upset that things mess up. By that same token, you have a resonsibilty AND the ability to provide people with an absolutely amazing gaming experience Which is what yourself and the team should be striving for. I hope that you can see past some of the negativity and frustration and take some f the suggestions for what they are. Just customers trying to tell you what would make their experience better.
