Hi, Faeran and I are back on Deliverance after a long holiday at the impalong. In our latest episode we are back at it, continuing where we left off, however, we have been presented with a new goal and a lofty one at that. To construct the Factional Fight village. For this we need dirt, and a lot of it. Together, we discuss many tips and tricks for the newbie player and it turns out we have a lot to say. Watch it at www.serversaredown.com We hope you enjoy! Wurm having dynamical seasons is one of the biggest steps forward in the past few years. You want to screw that up because you had to suffer a few days snow extra for the sake of christmas? Lets go back to the 2 months of snow textures we had before dynamical seasons were implemented, is that what you want? 3 months of horrible leaves everywhere before that? Snow had to be there for reasons like snowmen and christmas trees. There are no reason whatsoever to not go back to the normal dynamical seasons afterwards. What is it that you want, spring until its spring again in 20 days? Why should Rolf even bother to waste his valuable time with this because of a few whiners on the forums? I want winter to be same length as all other seasons, so far this past year winter has barely lasted a week at a time while other seasons has lasted for 10+ days at a time. It is not fair! QQQQQ!

Impalong "Corruption" Last week, The Wunion sent an undercover reporter to the Impalong to scope things out before it got started. When it came time for one of the new upcoming games to be tested, Raycg decided he would be the brave soul to take on that duty. This game consisted of three 1x1 shacks, with a specific task needing to be completed before moving on to the next shack. The first shack had 2 jars of potent red wine that needed to be drank in under 10 minutes. The second shack had a champ crocodile with an infected/diseased tooth that needed to be pulled out. And in the third shack, a beautiful woman waited. The player must make sweet love to her until she "screams for mercy". Raycg headed into shack number one. He chugged down the first jar of wine in no time at all. He became light headed and reached for the second jar. This one was not so easy. Slowly he took sip after sip. The clock was ticking... 7 minutes... 8 minutes... 9 minutes... Raycg stumbled out of the first shack, arms in the air. He had made it before the deadline. Ray tripped his way to the second shack with the champ crocodile and bravely entered. No one dared watch this difficult task. The yelling, the screaming, the moaning, all were enough to send shivers down a persons spine. Finally after an hour, Raycg emerged from the second shack that had the croc. He looked around and said, "Ok, now where'sh thish woman wit the shoar tooth at?" Plans for the game were cancelled immediately.

Item quality. I think that is a great idea. As a new player I am not restricted to just building new player items. I can build many things. They may have low quality but I can still build them. That is why I love Wurm. I dont have to rush to higher lvls to enjoy myself. I was able to play from day one. Nothing is pushing me to do anything and nothing is holding me back.

So, with people getting very creative with multistory, many things have become a common sight with major deeds. One of the most notable things I've seen (at least on Pristine) is lighthouses! There are several within sight of Blossom (the starter deed) and all of them have failed my nighttime expectations while sailing! The Problem: Lighting. Indoor lighting's render distance is far too short, even with arched walls at the very top of said lighthouse, to even reach five tiles away from the base. This essentially makes a lighthouse pointless (other than for your daylight aesthetics) I've tried several things, including removing the top floor, and just making a flat floor, as well as simply bashing the walls of the top floor, which, because it still exists within the structure, the lights still pertain to the original lighting guidelines for indoors. Solution 1: Create a new item for this. It could be called a "Brazier". In past suggestions, I've seen ideas including "Bonfires". Something similar to that could even work. Simply put: The light would pass through certain wall types which technically would (or I should say should) pass through... I.E.: Windows or arched walls. The light would also extend a further distance than lamps, and of course would require a far greater fuel source to do so. Crafting materials could include metals as well as pottery, and could come in various sizes, shapes, and designs. Obviously it would be a bit more difficult to create than lamps, and would require a lot more materials to craft. (as it would be of a size relative to a bulk storage bin. Solution 2: Fix arched walls. Arched walls could allow light to pass through from within as though there was no wall there, or as though the lamp was planted outside of a building. This would make it so you would be able to plant lamps on a higher story of a building, with surrounding arched walls, and the light would escape and render at a distance which a boat would be able to aim for, even in the foggiest weather or darkest night. I understand that lighthouses may not be on everyone's agenda, but they're just a small outlet of creativity for people owning port or harbor deeds. If the issue is resolved via the brazier idea, it could even add a creative lighting source outside of lighthouses, and allow deed owners new options for their deed lighting. What do you think, Wurmians?

I live in an apartment and there's parking spots in the back. Each one gets their own parking spot. I come home today and the car that usually parks to the right of me is sitting in my spot. Well, whatever, I think. There's snow, it's hard to see the lines, and maybe the person simply mixed up the spots. I'll park in his spot for now and the next day whenever either of us leaves it will sort itself out. Right? As sensible human beings we can sort out such minuscule problems without skipping a beat. No, apparently not. I pull into this person's spot and get out of my car. Two 40-50year old looking ladies come up and tell me in a thick European accent "Excuse me you park in the wrong spot" and look at me like I'm some kind of idiot. Me, trying to be nice, ask "Is this your car?" "Yes" still giving me that you're-an-idiot-look. "You parked in my spot." No response, still giving that look... "It's okay, we'll switch", I say, still being nice, even smiling. I get in my car...the two ladies get into theirs, one still giving that sideways glance, that hateful, condescending gaze. WTF is wrong with people like these? Do they think the next time I meet them I'm going to be nice to them? No, the next time I see their car in my spot I will immediately call a towing company and let them deal with that.

I've been playing this wonderful game for almost exactly one year. I love it, have had great fun, and really admire the work the devs do. That said, some sincere needling is in order, because they have been botching the (admittedly hard) job of late, in important ways. So, on behalf of the aggrieved players at their wits end in houses without rooftops, hand feeding their animals and praying for the spectre of disease to pass over them, I dedicate this song to the Wurm Community. May it bring you mirth: On the first day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: A bug causing horses to flee! On the second day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the third day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the fourth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the fifth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the sixth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the seventh day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the eighth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! On the ninth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the tenth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Ships at odd angles, floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the eleventh day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Multiple stories, ships at odd angles, floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! On the twelfth day of Christmas, the dev team gave to me: Tweets about parties, multiple stories, ships at odd angles, floors to my ankles, rubberbanding hedges, fancy new rooftops, mythical slate, ME-MO-RY LEEEAKS! No animations, PR excuses, two frames a second, and a bug causing horses to flee! Merry Christmas, Code Club.

There is a key bind called CLOSE that can close a window specificaly of the item whose inventory you opened. Thing is, it is rough around the edges, because you have to actually mouseover the actual item you just opened. so: bind shift+e open bind ctrl+e close as a example. The commands are there, but they need to be improved a bit. using the close command on the window while mousing over the window would help very much. There should as well be a keybind to close/hide all active windows. If there is one, please do mention it.

Another great video! I'll have to listen again, but I think there might need to be some clarification on the impact of fasting. I think you said the only drawback to fasting (to refill hunger) was a slight loss in nutrition, so you advised new players to go ahead and fast and not to stop skilling up to eat. Fasting actually can have a rather large impact on fat layers: http://wurmpedia.com/index.php/Fasting A player will not be able to keep fasting forever, eventually they have eaten through all their fat layers and are down to "skin and bones" and their food will drop to 0% and they will be unable to do most actions. I know also you get hungry faster when you have (low nutrition? low fat layers? maybe both?) so burning up those fat & nutation rexserves too carelessly means it will take even more food to get back to your former levels. This is less of an issue for a player who is part of an organized village where food is easier to come by, but if you are already having a hard time simply staying fed, you've now aggravated the situation even more, and now need even more food supplies to stay fed than before. So while you won't starve to death and needing to fast on occasion is not a severe issue, I don't know that I would recommend "fasting" as a regular game strategy (except for those characters with meditation or easy ways to "refresh" perhaps, or those in established villages where food supplies are plentiful) One easy newbie trick though -- when you are in your first 24 hours and getting free food in the tutorial (and ingame the first 24 hours), eating very frequently and anytime the hunger bar is down a bit, will help build up your fat layers before you are even out of tutorial so instead of being a scrawny "skin and bones" newbie early on, you'll be able to start out with maximum fat layers which will be a big help on those rare occasions where you really must "fast" to refill hunger bars. As long as you have easy access to a bartender, keep stuffing that face every chance you get, nom nom! Now this next part if just my own personal opinon, but I also think wood fences are so much easier for new players as a low quality stone wall will require you to constantly keep filling carts with stone shards for repairs, while a wood fence is so much easier to repair as planks repair much more than a stone shard (repairs 40 damage vs 10 damage) , and you can easily carry in inventory enough planks to repair your entire enclosure area (and you don;t even need to repair till you are starting to get heavy enough damage to justify one plank per 40 damage). However stone walls do decay slower, but repairing the same 40 dmg on a stone fence requires four shards to reapir (probably more as you lose the shard on repair failure) and unless you are already doing a lot of work either grinding mining or extending your mines, it takes more time and resource management to get and carry the stone shards is a hassle. Rummaging for stone shards can also be problematic if you are in an area where other people have exhausted the rummage capabilities of any exposed rock (less a problem if you are far from the start area, and there's locks of bare rock face in the general area). Anyone though who enjoys and does a lot of mining, plushas access to a mine system for producing stone easily, probably will find stone walls a lot easier over the long run. Anyway, kudos again as ServersAreDown.com is gradually becoming one of Wurm's best resources for new players and people interested in trying out the game!

if mobs dont enter your deed, wth use is a templar then? (i dont see rolf doing that as that templar is a money maker) also i cant turn mine off. the amount of trolls and fiends i get a day is insane. My mines attract a ton of aggros, animals always spawning inside it ^^. i got 70 fs, but wat i seen caves build up, yea my fs cant deal with that many..lol Also if ya take away aggros entering deeds ya take away new players way of gaining meat while they get there fs up. As older players we all should be thinking about the little guys too, not just ourselves. As for butchering on deed, Who cares, neighter butcher them daily on ur own or someone else will. People that managed to make it to my place alive ask me if they can butcher i tellem i dont care, hell i lettem groom my animals for AH grinding. if i really need meat bad enough i go huntin for it. my templar is basically a meat shield for the mass amounts of cave bugs-lave fiends n spiders, trolls, hell hounds i get daily. (good thing he has endless lives, hes used up a good 1000 last month alone haha) XD

I would be absolutely fine with that :0 My deed is literally just right here and you can get to him in no time at all~ I'll be getting online now and will be online all day ^^ The deed area is completely fenced off, so your horses will be safe here~ There's also a dock at Whispering Shadow, and the walk to my deed takes no time at all :3 (Edit: please don't repair the food storage bins right outside the gate!)

Expand the bank to 10 or 15 items, and make it so that merchants and traders, if attacked, can be killed, but they will respawn at the nearest settlement and walk back to where they died at, and pick up anything still left on their corpse. Every item that is not a silver-only purchase item would drop from the traders.

I personally like the longer videos and have watched everyone you guys have put out from beginning to end but for the average YouTube viewer the time would be long. You might consider making a few shorter ones and test to see if they get more views. I know a lot of the successful YouTube guys are doing 15-20min videos on the lets play things but anyone that plays Wurm would understand things take time, lol

I've been playing Wurm for just about two weeks now, but in those two weeks it has been consuming my free time. When I say 'consuming' I mean it lovingly, because every second put into this game is eventually rewarded with the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of your hard work. The truly 'open' world instantly sparked my taste for exploration when I logged into Pristine the first time. I spent nearly eight hours my first day simply wandering (and dying, a lot) constantly thinking to myself "Oh wow, I could set up an incredible logging camp in this forest" or "I could terraform this shoreline into a cove and set up a shipyard here..." Eventually I tired of dying (my favorites being to the Goblin King, to the Kyklops, and to falling off a sheer cliff face) and actually looked into what it was going to take to be successful in this game. I ended up deciding to focus on Ship Building and the skills that support it, and joined the Wurm Academy for a safe place to hang out while learning the basics. I’m nearly ready to strike out on my own and plant a deed soon, and I’m consumed with excitement. The reason I can’t stay away from Wurm is the excitement it instills in me by allowing me to do things that I could only ever wish for in other games. I can truly shape my own little part of this world. Had a lot more to say, but crammed it into the 250 limit (246). I realize it's mostly a story about what I've done thus far but that story IS the reason I love Wurm. It's a game about world building sure, but at it's core it's a game about rewarding dedication.

There was a post recently (i'll see if i can find it) from a client developer saying that this is a fundamental problem with the lighting code. Essentially the brightness of lights is determined by what "cell" you are stood in. If lighthouses were made an exception that was always visible in render distance (for example) you could have some serious performance issues if several were built near each other. Either way, they said the lighting code was being totally reworked to be better which seems better than creating something like this imo. Though I do agree arched windows should certainly let light through regardless Edit: here it was: />http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/71682-multi-story-house-pics/page__st__100

They use the guards to save their butts alot of times as it is.. Go make your own deed and hire a guard to kill stuff if you want to butcher corpses you did not kill.

It would be nice to allow the flag to stay on the previous floor height it was, or have a smaller height version that can planted in the middle of a "roof" section of floor. I was working on a 4 slotted stable that had two end towers. On the end towers I wanted a flag to poke through the middle of a pottery shingle roof. After building an opening for the 3rd floor, planting the flag, then destroying said 3rd floor opening to plan a roof. The flag replanted itself on the second floor. The problem here is the flag is not really tall enough to stick out through the roof above the second floor when planted on the second floor. I was going for that southern equestrian style stable with roof flags Here is a picture when I removed the floor opening on the 3rd floor, the flag fell down to the second floor and then I applied a roof to check the height.

Well...I can't speak for anyone but myself and I'm not particularly mad. However I do think what is happening is extremely bad for the game, and the principle reason there are so many abandoned deeds on JKH with the occupants moved away from Epic. The fact is a home server is obviously where new players come to learn how to play. Do they all do that well? Of course not. However - some try...and try hard. It seems to me pretty obvious that they are not in any position to cope with very experienced skilled players at that point in time. There is a lot of crap spoken about what is possible in this game imo....and one of the most disingenuous is that you can skill FS to 70 in a week. Sure you can if you have access to armor, weapons, horses, cotton.....but try it really from scratch with absolutely no help and get back to me on that. So there is a complete skill mismatch which takes a lot of work and effort to try to make up. Now I realize that people also need to play carefully and protect themselves, and also that the bottom line in the PvP servers is actually Kingdom warfare, but I also thought that people wanted decent PvP...which means having reasonable competition. Crippling the growth of new players with malicious, for the sake of it, griefing obviously damages that considerably. Once look at the thread about why people don't choose PvP servers makes that crystal clear. They mostly either quit, or move the PvE because they can't really compete, OR have a lot of fun when they are still trying to make a stone house and some a.wipe throws their tools into 120 dirts of water, or locks them so they can't get at them. So it seems pretty obvious to me...measured in empty houses, rotting walls, starving/dead animals that while the griefing play style is acceptable within the rules on Epic, people vote with their feet and there is no point whining about not enough people on the PvP servers. As our Boss pointed out earlier - many actually enjoy true PvP. However...that needs players to do.. So......taking a WILD guess here I would suggest that when a style of play is seen to actually damage the entire PvP environment by driving potential future players away....... .....that might just about make some a bit pissed. However - this is all my personal conjecture and YMMV.

This thread: http://forum.wurmonl...for-clay-brick/ exposed some of the basic weight vs volume issues with clay now that we have clay bricks. Short version: Increase clay dig action to 5KG, decrease clay bricks requirement to 10KG. As I posted there I think the root problem is the amount of clay you get per digging action and confusion (by devs) of weight vs volume. The volume of a stone brick and clay brick are the same and a single mining action gives a volume of one brick+slop. Unfortunately the weight of the stone and clay bricks are also the same so it takes 10 actions to get the same weight of clay. Realistically (which is not a good basis for argument in a game) the weight per volume of most rock vs clay differs by about 1.5x not 7.5x. To me the proper solution is to increase the weight per clay dig action to 5kg instead of 2kg and require 2 clay (10kg) per brick. It also means a dig action gives 1/4th the clay as it does dirt rather than 1/10th which was a bit over the top. Close enough for government work in terms of realism and solves the imbalance. This would also make things like houses and the proposed road changes a bit more palatable where mortar is concerned since it would cut the clay digging requirements by 2/5ths assuming the recipes stayed constant.

My personal favourite is "setoption no_world_render true" (or false.) It makes the client render nothing, I have it keybound to the full stop (period) and comma. It's like a client usage lightswitch, giving you a way to make clients use up very little processor while you aren't using that account (ideal for priest accounts or afk'ing.) Credit to KaiH for telling me that one

Paint Wars Many moon ago in a land far, far away, a young Wurmian named Headhunter was born into the kingdom of J/K Home. Not just born, but miraculously spawned out of thin air. The Gods, unsure of what to do with this immaculate child, quietly influenced him to join the sacred village of Southport. This new home was far from the prying eyes of any on-lookers. The goal was to keep HH protected from evil, so as to let him grow his honourable talents in private. As with many a youngling in J/K (junior kindergarten), he enjoyed finger painting with much vigor. Time went on and HH grew older, he turned his finger painting into a knack for making coloured lanterns. These lanterns sold well and were the pride of his friends and villagers. Not much later, he discovered he could expand his skill and began painting sailboats. The boats were in high demand because of their unique and spectacular colours, not seen by many before. His path in life seemed set. Then the tragic day came. HH spotted a knarr in Port Onody for the very first time. His eyes widened, his heart thumped, he was hypnotized by the new transport he had found. He contacted Crutchly, the maker of the ship, to teach him the ways of the knarr, wanting desperately to construct one of his own. After accomplishing this feat, Headhunter eagerly raced home to his workshop and cast aside all of his paints to begin work on yet another "Secret project", daring not to tell a soul what he had in mind. By now, it was too late. Headhunter had officially crossed over to the dark side and the proof of his deviant behaviour can finally be shown. Will anyone be able reach HH and bring him back to the colourful life he led before? Or will his soul forever be lost to the side of darkness?

I had success calling on OSX 10.8.2 by calling the Java6 version of javaws directly from the terminal like this. Assuming you've downloaded the wurmclient.jnlp to your disk. /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Commands/javaws wurmclient.jnlp
