Pretty tired of reading posts like this. I'm an animal hoarder by anyone's definition. At any given time I have between four and twenty horses, and between four and twenty cattle. I keep them in fields that are so large they would support about a quarter of those horses in the real world just on grass, in a good climate with fertile land. I have given away or released into the wild more horses than I currently own. I have given away more cattle than I currently own. I have released into the wild many, many more horses than I captured from it in the first place. I have yet to successfully sell a horse. I think I sold some cattle almost a year ago for a few coppers. The game mechanics mandate that to breed horses I need at least four + whatever I've bred. This update / bug was a setback for me, I couldn't find all of my horses. But it hammers the point home again that I need to keep still more, not less, because stuff like this happens. Who really got stuffed around by this bug? The people who don't hoard animals. People with just one or two that lost just one or two. Rolf DID get the message about evil hoarders, he introduced overcrowding rules and changed it so that even enchanted grass can be packed if you over-use it. I was not affected in the least by either change (crowding always looked awful to me), except the bug related to enchanted grass where I lost a few months and maybe 80s worth of enchanting in 48 hours. I believe 90% of the posts complaining about evil animal hoarders are made by people who have never gone to the effort of breeding animals, building proper pens, keeping even a small herd of animals fed and healthy or gone anywhere near the trouble of levelling up meditation to the point where they can enchant grass. And I believe most of those posts are motivated by jealousy of others' achievements and "ingame wealth", not some altruistic robin hood approach to the game and its economics.

Simple idea. I think it would be nice to have a rack to hold small barrels, I was thinking it would hold 25 barrels, like a fountain does. Edit: Best image I've found so far.

Dear Santa Rolf, This year for Christmas I would like to have a Red Ryder Bow & Arrow set, with bonus eye damage. P.S. I will also accept a Troll Leg Lamp, wearing a fishnet stocking. Domhnall

This is a short fan-made trailer I have been working on which aims to showcase the more creative and social aspects of Wurm Online. It is currently incomplete as I feel it needs a lot more gameplay footage but I'm sharing with everyone just to show the general layout and what I have done so far so that I may get some feedback and suggestions. Over the next few weeks, I will be traveling to a few events and large settlements to try and get some more footage. If you think I should be visiting your deed, pass me the details and I'll try to stop by. [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag6GixRxH7Q

The developers need to work out a better system for dragons. Anything left to the players will end in a fight and is not going to help things in the long run. I made a suggestion in another thread and it seems like a good answer to the problem it needs to be fine tuned but it gets close to what i think would be fair for everyone.. Note: In the new dragon system they would ignore an fence and house wall making it impossible to be penned in. I am sure there are other things that need to be addressed but i think it is a good starting base to build off of.

Sorta like multiple priests linking together to cast high power spells. Allow additional carpenters to contribute their skill to planning structures larger than what is possible now. Whatever the formula. Maybe they all need to be above a certain skill and only a certain percentage of the additional carpenters' skill levels is usable but honestly what's the harm in allowing far larger structures in the game? Resource gathering time would effectively limit the proliferation of too many superstructures. Based on some of the screenshots posted since multistory buildings went live it's pretty obvious Wurm will only benefit from more complex and expressive architecture. In fact I would suggest that all development efforts should be focused on the sort of features that let players get as creative as possible. That's what's going to attract new players in droves, not crappy PVP mechanics.

I too think we should put a bell on the cat. But who will do it? Seriously, what are the practical ways of doing this? Throw an enormous deed on the mountain? Fence him in? Tame it? I know I might pay money to see a video documenting someone's attempts to train it. "Day 400: having been dragon food 30 times already today, I think I am beginning to win it over. At least, when he raises his talon to kill me, it is a bit slower and he sighs a little."

Now that we can make pretty impressive looking buildings it would be nice if we could make guard towers like we do normal buildings. The process of starting it would be identical to normal buildings and once the user is satisfied with how it looks they could construct a guard tower token somewhere in the building which would serve as the center point for guard spawns, distance to other guard towers, and the point for conversion on the PvP servers. Once the token is finished the writ would vanish and the building would become a kingdom building with all doors opening to all kingdom members but locked to enemies. To prevent a poor mans towers the material cost for the building would have to reach some minimum before it would be possible to build a guard tower token in it.

Serious consideration needs to be taken on NEVER connecting the Pristine server cluster lands with the pre-release Freedom cluster servers. This is a significant and appropriate break point in Wurm's history with both the release of Wurm 1.0 and all of the significant fixes and quality improvements. There is a long list of reasons to keep the server clusters separate and negative consequences of Freedom cluster characters and their skills, items, resources, and wealth being allowed to enter the Pristine cluster servers. One of the biggest draws for both new and existing players to the Wurm Pristine server was that it is an entirely fresh start. Unexplored and unbuilt upon lands inhabited by characters all starting out at the same point. Allowing Freedom cluster characters to cross into the Pristine cluster will result in a sudden influx of extremely advanced characters as well as loads of high level enchanted tools, are items, weapons and armors far and above the quality of anything being used or able to be made on the Pristine server cluster. Skill Affinities As everyone starts out fresh on the Pristine cluster servers, every single character there has only one skill affinity. Due to its connection to the Wild/Chaos server, there are Freedom cluster characters with a large number of skill affinities on a single character - many traded or bought from other players by exploiting the ability to go to the Wild/Chaos server and 'let' another player kill you to acquire their affinity. Unique Creatures Server unique creatures such add atmosphere and challenge to the areas they inhabit as well as a goal focus for characters that hope to someday engage and defeat them. Likely no Pristine character that’s lived in the area since the start of the server or any Pristine started character will be involved in killing the uniques that live there. There's no doubt that mere days or just hours after connecting the Freedom server cluster to the Pristine server cluster that Pristine's uniques will fall to parties of long time Freedom cluster characters already decked out in drake hide armor and high quality enchanted weapons. Where's the challenge in that? Economy The Pristine cluster servers will quickly establish their own economy. Connecting the Freedom cluster servers would inject character accounts with massive silver and resource stockpiles acquired over many years of gameplay and farming traders for money. Obviously this would drastically both devalue the current high end items able to be crafted on Pristine and the hard won 'starting from scratch' skill levels of pristine characters. Gameplay wise for the Pristine cluster players this would destroy their ability to compete with the influx of wealth and high skill characters. Financially for Code Club this would also substantially reduce the amount of silver players will buy if the server clusters are connected. Old players on the Pristine server cluster will use transferred funds from their established Freedom characters and both old and new players will buy in-game money from wealthy Freedom players instead of Code Club. Past bugs, exploits and past baggage Every game during development has bugs, exploits and other issues that need to be stamped out and dealt with. Typically all characters, items, and wealth are wiped out when a game moves from beta to release. Obviously Wurm has taken a less than typical development path - still, why intentionally inflict these remnants of past bugs and changes on the new server cluster? Many of the account skills, wealth and some types of items gained from past fixed exploits and misc. bugs still exist on the Freedom cluster servers - compromises were made - from this point on decisions were put in place with the previous damage done left in place. Fountain backpacks, satchels and pans are the primary example - I'm sure several others exist. Even the nature of the items give out at Xmas has been significantly altered. Now more than ever is the time for a clean break between past errors and the new path forward. Making the Pristine server and new servers connected to it their own separate server cluster would be the best route forward. New servers can always be added to both Freedom and Pristine clusters in the future.

I'm not sure what you're wanting from Rolf, Vet; world peace? An end to inequality, greed and envy? Might take a bit more than some dodgy programming and a new server. You could just, y'know, not play if it depresses you that much. Although the real world isn't much better in that regard. Anyone else up for some drunken nub-adventures next week?

I am looking for either donations or will barter for horses/calves/seeds/tools/cotton/bulk leather, I need to get a roof over all the orphanage cottages again before the next heavy rains set in, and calculate I need about 1000 small nails. Donations can go into the BSB at the orphanage token (not sure whether I need to set deed settings to allow dropping things into BSB?). Or am looking for new players willing to make small nails in exchange for livestock, seeds, bulk leather, cotton, tools & gear. Barter ratios: 400 small nails = 5 speed horse - you pick from assorted colors/ages/sex 100 small nails = bull or female calf 50 small nails = 50 cotton, wemp, pumpkin; or barrel of mixed seeds (your choice of type) A huge thanks to Silverback who got us all the nails we needed for the Great Reroofing

I agree I just read about the description for paving skill from wurm wikipedia...and it's made for streets. And it makes far more sense that someone with a high carpentry is able to build floors(also for the wooden structure under it) than the paving skill and it makes no sense to me, that I have a high stone cutting and masonry(masonry is the skill for using stone AND mortar properly together) but I'm not able to pave a ground with slate or marble? and since when are house floors the same as streets? and if rolf dont wanna change it, here is my suggestion: include masonry/carpentry in your c alculation of when youa re able to make a floor, cause those are the skills to make houses!

This is not the first time problems using fences to secure our animals caused issues. I'm really mad about this. What animals I lost or how much time it took to round them up isn't important. What is, is the fact that the devs are making these kind of mistakes regarding things we the player highly prize. 1. It takes a lot of time to breed your own animals, for me its at least a year. 2. Their are no wild animals wandering around so your are forced to buy from others if you loose your breeding stock. 3. I can replace just about everything I have in a short time except my horses. Giving players tools to secure their animals should be one of the highest priority tasks. Why can't I put my horses in a barn? Oh oh oh, "It won't look right"...pfft. What would happen if all the sudden all the drake and scale armor suddenly disappeared? What would Epic people do if suddenly their arties disappeared?

Improving slate slabs for paving skill would be a handy way to get some skill without paving a few hundred tiles worth. EDIT: Even if they were not impable, just using pave to create them at low levels would be useful.

If you have a skill loss issue, the only way to resolve it is by talking to one of the developers by logging on and typing /support, then explaining your situation. As a 'community assistant, Trencal, your attitude and your comment in this thread is nothing short of both ignorant and childish. for any new player wanting to know what happened to any 'livestock' they may have had on their deed or piece of land on any server, that was not helpful. To top it all off by putting the infuriating line 'just saying' did your cause no good at all.

I took a trip around independence today and noticed how not appealing all these abandoned deed are. This is largely due to the unnatural terraforming that has happened. I think that dirt walls over a certain, unnatural slope (100 maybe?) should over time roll down, maybe 2 dirts a month if no structure or wall is within a few tiles. This would mean that after the buildings decay, then we would eventually get a smoothing out of all these eyesores. The details would have to be worked out better, but we definitely need something like this in the game.
  31. 1 point
I mean really, you think that this would "encourage" trade. To encourage trade Wurm needs various things that vocal posters can't seem to tolerate within Wurm such as, mailboxes that will handle any items, an auction house and instant travel to set locations. Slow moving ship transports will do *nothing* to encourage trade but only make trade more profitable for those that can tolerate this tedious means of getting anywhere and advocate for game mechanics that would make this work to their advantage. This is a bad idea with good intentions but with little thought put into its negative implications. =Ayes=

Exodus and Celebration was released at far lower population, has it really thinned out the players? I hear constant complaints about there not being any land to settle on either of these servers (Deliverance as well). Pristine turned out to be a huge success (300-400 players during prime time) and releasing Release will only help bring more players to Wurm. Wurm will probably be getting a consistent flow of new players over the coming months, and I predict more servers on the new cluster as well. New players will be more inclined to stay on a fresh map than one that already has been land hogged by old Wurm players within a day. http://jenn001.game.wurmonline.com/mrtg/paying.html All this is also bringing more players to the old servers so why people keep complaining about a new cluster for new players is beyond me.

I didn't want to go into the whole mundane "real world" on this one but it's dragging on. Rolf cannot allow people the ability to completely and utterly with no possible exception own land parcels for free forever. If he were to do such a thing, then few people capable of building a guard tower would bother with a deed, or they wound buy a tiny little deed, and control lots of free land around it. There has to be a risk involved in order to persuede people to actually "own" the land they occupy. The risk is that another player can place perimeter over your unprotected house. They cannot take your house, but they can prevent you from repairing it. If the house is of low quality this means you will have no house within a few months. If it's high quality, your house will likely stand for a year or more, but every time you inspect it and see just a little more damage you will want to do something about it. Either move, or come to an accomodation with your neighbor for them to either move, or sell their deed to you, or whatever. If you live in a sufficiently remote area, the chances of someone wandering up and dropping a deed on your undeeded land is unlikely, but it is possible. Unlike most games, there is significant opportunity for real loss in the game. From coin and gear on your corpse lost in the woods and you have no clue where, to years of work sitting unprotected, undeeded, in the middle of nowhere. Part of the attraction of Wurm is the risk, and the "hard work" required to actually have something worth risking. If you want to reduce the risk of squatters on your land taking away your rights, or perhaps even deeding or placing perimeter over your property, then you need to deed it, or at the very least deed an 11x11 section of it, and expand perimeter (perimeter is cheaper) to control the land you wish to be controlled. The deed and perimeter system appears to be specifically designed to encourage you to put more money into the game in exchange for more security. If this is changed, then the entire financial model of land ownership will collapse on itself and new types of real world money expenses will need to be implemented to make up for the loss. It's possible that Rolf makes enough money from Wurm to lose a significant chunk of income and continue as is. However I doubt it. I do not see any possibility or Rolf diving into pools of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck, so let's please completely avoid any silly arguments about Rolf making "too much money" This is a business for Rolf. It is a game to us.

I usually dont comment on threads like this but GMs need to step up and actually do something about things like this. They need to realise that troll deeds need to be removed and they shouldnt be allowed. Its just common sense to see which deeds are those. But nope right now they dont care what you deed over unless its a highway

I was going to comment on this newest rush to get to another new server but I'd best not say anything other than what I have just said. Never mind..... =Ayes=

Yes it is a bit unrealistic that these dirt terraforms would hold up after the forest took over. +1 for more slope erosion to restore the area to a more natural state. This is much like caves collapsing. I would say 40 tile slope (x+y) as that is the digging slope at which dirt flows when it is dropped, just use that dirt flow mechanism to implement this by having a decay knock down the steep corners as if they got dug dirt by dirt but the dirt just flows downhill. Deeds are a preventive to decay and erosion. Could speed up the slab and forge decay as well as those are always the last thing standing, that the dirt flowed out under the slab causing the slab to crumble and the forge to fall in. Though if the slope is slab I guess you have to wait for it to erode first.

I agree it should stay like it is now for as long as possible... years maybe. If it is moved into the rest of the servers too soon 80-90+ QL items and casts will take over instantly from the other servers and kill the market new players have developed. I don't think wild was moved into freedom for a few years or so. There's something unique about a new server and watching it grow on its own without the help of massive amounts of high QL tools and gear.

^ nah not so true, everyone should be treated fairly. Its not fair to the new players that they didnt know about about the game. and the vets have better skills, more xp, better everything else. So dont throw that as an excuse.

Whether that person did it to intentionally grief someone is, to me, irrelevant. (For that matter, we did have a problem on Celeb with people deeding over steppes with explicit names like "deathtosteppe", and nothing was done against it either.) What is relevant is that Pryath is instinctively defending the deed owner because he "spent over 30 silver deeding it".

Figured rather than go pave the starter town I'd see if there was any skill gain of worth, read paving, to be had by adding wood flooring in unused houses on deed. Nope, no paving ticks, just characteristics and miscellaneous. As a Vynora follower I'll not be ripping up slabs just to replace them ad nauseum. So choices are basically reduced to one, go pave randomly with varying stone based materials to see if any provides a better paving bump. Keep checking periodically to see if I have the skill necessary to build floors/roofs out of marble in addition to asking others if there's a good way to store the 50+ marble slabs I have in large cart. Given projects I'd rather be working on, time spent developing house and character am rather put off by current status of requirements for flooring/roofing. My choice is marble, but given indications from previous posts and information provided by players it appears I'll be walking around a floor and roof plan for quite some time. Customers would be much better served by communication and documentation, it's a huge putoff being left out in wind entirely.

Damn, epic acounts need to get forbiding to post in freedom same as freedom accounts can´t post in epic.
