While Aetherwalker is lucky enough not to be fully impacted by the current lag, The Devs are looking into the possible causes and there will be a solution. The sooner the better of course, but patience is a virtue. In the meantime, there is no call to be attacking the CA's like this. Yes we have a fair number of new CA's and I am working with them as quickly as I am able to get them up to speed. As far as the chat problems, part of the problems are being fixed by Rolf, and the rest will be dealt with as soon as possible. Yes, I know how bad it has been on a couple of servers and how abused Global has been.

This is not a rant thread, but merely a suggestion of sorts for a higher quality of service from staff members; more specifically moderators. I can appreciate the work that many of them do and that most of them are purely volunteers, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that this is no longer working. There are simply too many players and too few volunteers of a high enough caliber to keep them in check, not to mention the astonishingly long wait time for tickets to be answered for such a small game. This is why, at least in my view, why so many players have taken it upon themselves to help moderate the various chat channels. So my humble request is this: have higher standards/training for new recruits and/or start hiring professional moderators. I would like community feedback in regards to this, but please remember to keep it clean (as in no flaming, staff abuse, or other mentions of specific staff members) as I have no intention of causing problems.

As someone who has had to wait for a GM to rescue me from a bugged mine, I can understand your frustration when it seems like tickets aren't answered fast enough. When you're trapped or some other bug makes you unable to do the things you want in game right now, even five minutes seems forever. However, I think that the GMs on Wurm do an excellent job. Many tickets are gotten to within a matter of hours. (Both of the support tickets I had while a player were responded to within an hour or less.) Now compare this to some of the MMOs with a staff of paid folks waiting to help. In World of Warcraft, about the best I could hope for on tickets was 24 hours, and they have periods were tickets are commonly unanswered for days at a time. In Champions responses came at best during the next business day. When I played the latest Star Wars MMO, tickets often took days to answer, and most of my tickets were simply closed without providing me any assistance. So, if I have to choose between the so called "professional" staff of these MMOs and the so called "amateur" staff of Wurm, I am going to choose our GMs and CMs without a second thought.

Easiest way for lower skilled players to make money, is by doing things that better-financed players do not want to spend time on. You'll never be able to compete with skilled players on "professional crafted goods" as a skilled crafter can make a 70Q item in very little time. (I should not say 'never' as a determined player CAN make a business at a skilled trade, but they need more stubbornness and determination than most have. Wurm LOVES stubborn people.) Resource gathering itself is not that profitable either, as skilled players can usually do this fast and get higher quality resources. Sometimes quality does not matter though and you can make good money harvesting olives or grapes in season, or easily transported materials like tar or clay. There is often a market for dirt but its a pain to store and transport it. But what is most profitable is converting raw resources into bulk construction goods such as bricks, mortar, mine reinforcements, iron ribbons, iron fence bars, planks, wood floorboards, nails. Usually quality does not matter on those. Once we know the details of the new multistory, there may be new demands for things like thatching for roofs etc. For a new player, probably the most "stable" employment is to find a reputable player business that already specializes in bulk items, and ask about working on a commission. In many cases they probably get more orders than they can easily fill and will often pay fairly well, simply to maintain their businesses reputation as a fast reliable source of these goods. If they find you are hardworking and reliable, they will probably always have jobs for you. While you could make more silver working for yourself in direct player-to-player sales, the biggest issue will be how to transport those goods, and finding customers. An established playerrun business will already have large ships with rafts, and have a transportation system already worked out. They also will have contacts giving them high volumes of sales, which means there is always something you can make on commission for them. But -- its boring work. That's why the skilled players (who can probably do the same work in one third the time), would rather pay to have someone else do it. Many veteran players also hire new players in order to give them an opportunity to work towards their initial premium sub. Things like digging jobs, or filling frypans for someone skilling up on Hot Food Cooking (HFC) can especially work out well. The main problem however is connecting with such opportunities can be chancy and a matter of being around at the right time and place. The best way to get these opportunities, is to simply get yourself known as a helpful player with a good attitude, as your reputation will open some doors for you (or close doors if you are seen as a difficult or unreliable person). And. a smart entrepreneur can always make money by studying closely the markets and looking for opportunities and gaps that they can fill. Keep an eye on kingdom chats for jobs, and check daily the forums "Want to Buy" threads for patterns. This is not easy but a clever person can always find a way. You can also sometimes hit paydirt by exploring the entire map and finding abandoned traders or items at long disbanded villages, but you have to be someone who likes to spend a lot of time looking on the off chance of a big payoff. Usually the locals will beat you to such prizes. The one thing you have to watch out for, is established players who take some advantage of newer players, which sadly does happen sometimes. They pay much less than the going rate and tell you they are doing you a favor. I think sometimes they believe that, too. Anyway in time you just have to learn to avoid those because many other Wurm players are more than happy to deal fairly with new players, many will even overpay just to help a young player get a good start. See also this thread for some good advice: http://forum.wurmonl...is-it-worth-it/ Because sometimes the very best way to get silver, is simply to buy it. For some players that is not an option, but for many, it ends up letting them relax and fully enjoy the game more than doing boring jobs. I think most players however like to at least give a run at "making money" in the early game. But the paradox is -- it's easiest to make money when you are least in need of money. IE, once you are better established in the game and already have solid skills and an established village. I have more silver than I really need now, simply because I no longer really need silver at all. If you can afford to buy silver the first 2-3 months, you'll probably find after that that you will naturally start accumulating silver without even noticing.

EDIT: According to Vroomfondel this is already the case, I just had to change the settings! In the recent 'Looong winter' thread someone said something about the fact that certain trees would not have their leaves in winter. Would it be awkward to change this or is that too big of a thing to do? I don't know how simple this would be and the implications of doing so, but it would add that extra awesomeness to the game.

-1 wurm is an mmo and I really don't see the reason people want to play it on a private server/offline. If this was ever to happen it would ruin the game. Wurm is all about community. on another note the fact that silver = real life money means servers should never be privatized.
  8. 2 points
No. Wurm is different we dont need private etc servers. There should be only official ones

This idea could be a good one if modified into a *Rolf created hunting preserve* where no deeds could be placed. A no deed on steppe setup would be a *bad idea* since anyone can plant steppe most anywhere and thus create *no deed* areas. =Ayes=

The topic of chat moderation, it's consistency etc. has been brought up a fair bit recently. Enki posted something about it somewhere which for the life of me I can't find as it was in a thread about it rather than one he specifically wrote as an announcement, but it is something being looked into extensively at this time and we're hoping to have a more effective system for training moderators in the near future. We're also working to provide much more detailed information for them to understand exactly how we wish the chats to be run. Hopefully once the consistency improves, this will make it easier for everyone to see where the lines are so it's simpler to ensure that you stay on the right side of it as I believe that's the main concern here; some people aren't sure where the line is at any given time and just want to know.

I'm the mayor of MHM and I need to make a few things clear first (in order to avoid possible misunderstanding). 1. The village is not the original Mouse Hole (the original village was disbanded between 30-31 December). The last time that I saw a citizen of Mouse Hole online was during the first week of April 2011 . screenshots from the original village: http://imgur.com/a/qKZLC#0 2. MHM is actually a copy of it. There are still a few things that have to be done like painting the walls and replacing some things that have been lost during the first hours after the deed was disbanded. The whole process will have been completed before the new year's eve, I just need to find some time and start mixing colors to get results as close as possible to the original. 3. I make sure that there is always enough upkeep so that there are no problems with decay, so there is actually no need for anyone else to support it financially . The fences of the horse pen are still heavily damaged because I haven't repaired them yet. The walls of the 2 buildings that stand on the deed are in good condition. PS. Auvry you have a pm.

Well he has a point there... Playing Wurm over the years, Ive been in pretty much all of the kingdom chats (even Freedom a little; though, my interests usually dont exist there). On pvp servers, the metagame is part of the game There has been and is various distinct feels to each kingdom chat. For a long time kingdoms on Wild/Chaos like BL or MR had very few mods, let alone even needed them. Typically it would even be just a GM pulling double duty. JK kingdom chat by comparison was just plain awful, thus had the heavier share of mods. Far as paid staff goes, Rolf has been hiring people as he feels the need and the money warrants. Personally I cannot say if having paid mods would really make any more impact than having the volunteers.

Every time a new server opens up this particular thread pops up over and over and over. If you ask me these threads are griefing and they need to be locked as soon as they appear. I would wager that the majority of players are NOT hunters and don't give a champ rat's azz about these deeds. If you spent as much time playing as you do whining about being able to kill something that doesn't really exist you would probably have maxed out your fight skill. Perhaps the real problem for the OP is that he has to actually hunt for kills instead of horizon to horizon targets. It's too hard to have to spend time to actually hunt. Maybe an easy button could be provided. That was the problem on in the Exodus desert too. The deeds made the hunters have to actually hunt. Some of them actually admitted this.

The real problem is that every action you do, allways "ruin" the game for others, people like to place small 5x5 deeds and act as if he own the server, and wine if someone moves near, some others like to play the role of the hunter, and think they own every creature in the server, and like to think that also owns the rigth to hunt or kill anything, anywhere, others like to pen dragons and control the cool armours market, and then all the rest think that those ruined the game for the people that want a such armour, There is people that choose to become breeder, and ruin the game for the rest of non breeders, and there is other people who like to ... You get the point. The reallity is that most servers are empty, my own server Celebration, hardly have more than 100 online per day, and there is places overcrowded, but also there is places whre no one lives where must be some kind of hunting game, but of course, we want to live 5 minutes away of the spawn point, near or in to shore line, have huntable animals 3 tiles away of our back door, and no other person settled in a radious of 150 tiles, guess what, our logic is flawled, if you settle near spawn point, be prepared to be mass flowed with new (and not so new) people looking for settle in the same place, hunting game will be scarse, etc. etc. etc. PD: no more than 3 minutes NE of TD the last few days we have a pest of spiders, lava spiders and some hell hounds terrorizing the newcommers, but no hunter seem to botter to kill it, so a bunch of newcommers with low skill, have no other way to aleviate the problem that put is lifes in the front line, and try to drive the unwanted visitors to the nearest templars, and we all know that some times lava spiders are a tougth figth even for 2 templars. And yet even wen most of the wandering ones get killed, there is a enclosure that rigth now its overflloded with lava spiders, even with a huge Champ one, and i know that the moment that one of that walls get breached for decay, the hell will be unleashed over us. Salu2.

I like all the seasons for their own reasons - the lovely fresh grass in spring, the lush summer (and some places even conveying heat in a well-done way), the beautiful colours of autumn. And yes, the very nice winterlandscape too, with it's more clear views and some wonderful lighting from certain trees (indeed the cherries stand out). And maybe most favourite: decent lightfall at night! Not those awful hours between nightfall and somewhere after midnight, when whatever light you throw at it it just gets completely sucked away, leaving ink-black darkness (now there is something I don't and won't ever like... ). Overall though: I would be fine with a long winter as with a long whatever-season. And for sure the hateful dark hours of other seasons make the winters even more loved (by me)

Rules that prevent deeding is contradictory to the fact that Wurm is a sandbox game. If it is someone's goal to destroy a steppe, cut down all the trees in an area, hollow out a mountain, etc. it's perfectly acceptable in my opinion as it falls within the parameters of a sandbox game. No rules were broken and there are still plenty of animals to hunt. Sad for some but it's the simple truth.
  23. 1 point
No need for any rules, there just needs someone with power to apply some common sense on a case by case basis. This player and these deeds (yes he has several of those on every server) are pretty suspicious. They need to at least investigate and speak with him. An even if it's intended to grief the "hunters"/slayers it does a perfectly nice service to all other players. I made the exact opposite btw, a 51x51 deed wuth only about 1/4 village and the rest woods, I got plenty of agro to kill.

I've not been personally involved in any of this but I have been an observer. I think some of it may be coming from recent chat trolling and / or flaming that seems to go on and on after CMs have directed a topic change or (in the case of Indy server chat a couple nights ago) even green text was used. I personally question why people can continue to violate the chat rules after such staff action. They should be muted immediately if they continue to violate the rules after a warning has been given. But I can recount several instances where it seems like the CM may as well not have spoken at all, and we find ourselves in the middle of the situation that CMs are there to prevent - flame wars over disallowed subjects, swearing, whining about being warned, and general trolling. I don't take offense at much but I do take offense at people getting away with breaking the rules, when the rest of us make an effort to follow them. And the answer is NOT 'you can always close chat'.

  33. 1 point
I love the winter landscape. Not only does it provide some clear viewing for quite a distance to see mobs (friendly and unfriendly), but it's beautiful too. The cherry trees are my favourite by far. I tend to agree with Brash. There will always be someone complaining about the season one way or another. Make the seasons a little shorter and cycle through them a bit more often.

Wow, Wurm is getting destroyed one graphic at a time. Low stone walls, just ugly. Please at least make door supports face the same way s windows and wall? That being said, Roofs look good, but cmon, the graphics are sharper for sure, but going backwards in the ways of visual aesthetics.

I offered to clean up the lake side, but the deed owner who lives there (Beck) told me to go ahead and leave as is. So I did as he wished. As far as the 1x1's, they are owned by all different people, and I haven't seen some of them on since the canal project was ended.
  39. 1 point
Because I don't think the thread is that hostile, and there is active discussion. I personally would like to see a resolution. The mess is terrible and I'd be happy to help with the clean-up if that is the next step. Letting the area sit in limbo means that everybody loses. I'd rather have a canal than 100 1x1s and logs and stumps everywhere.

omg I thought I was the only one, I decided to watch it after hearing many people referencing it then I was just like .... , I couldn't understand what was even mildly humorous about it, there was nothing at all that made it special or even remotely interesting and now I'm ready to shoot someone because I am so damn sick of hearing about it I go into a LoL game and people are like OPPPAAAAAAA GANGNAM STYLE , then someone on the other team replies OPPA OPPA GANGNAM STYLEEEEEE L OL ................. I went to a party yesterday and somebody put that ###### song on (if you can even call it music) and everyone starting singing along with it like a bunch of complete ######s, it reminded me of that youtube video of those bronies singing MLP at mcdonalds- i left right there
  41. 1 point
Well the lake side of the project looks bad and it seems that all the dirt that has been dug up is now gone. If the project is not going to be completed then i hope it at least gets cleaned up so it does not look so bad. It is not really in my area but i did pass by it going to AP today and just thought well this canal thing sure has left a mess, lol

IRL the yield of these types of alloys is fairly high, yes, but that is under modern industrial processes. When you think about the time period of Wurm, it is surprising we actually get so much useable alloy, because the purities would be terrible as would the manufacturing processes. Therefore, Better metallurgy = higher ql alloy resultant = more ql increase per imp = more bang for your buck, so to speak.

Primary reason of why Im not particularly fond of carebear servers. If I dont like someone for any particular reason, theres an outlet for dealing with it personally
  44. 1 point
Should stay this way tbh, especially for starter deeds.
  45. 1 point
It's not just starter deeds, it's all deeds afaik. We couldn't capture some because of their location near other deeds. Personally I don't rule this a bug, conquering too close to a deed or starter deed is really unfair. 5 local ranges may seem small, but for noob exploring he'll easily stumble across it. If I were a JK noob and wandered out only 2 locals into enemy towers and died, I'd be pretty upset. I really would advise not changing the conquering distance for safety of newer players, but also because it seems fine as is. I don't think it conquering was designed to really take over towers at the doorsteps of a kingdom.

The money (5€) Rolf is charging this game per month is ridiculously cheap. For this amount of money you get a 24/7 ingame service of (voluntary) GM, CM and CA. Then there is lag Rolf and the rest of the team are not responsible and Wossoo, in his position as a voluntary PR manager, takes the time to explain the situation to the community. I'm really wondering when you guys appreciate all the work and stop complaining about everything.
