Way back when I found out Power meditators could make lava, I had this idea. Two months ago I began working on this project and here it is. It was an absolutely insane amount of surface mining! I might expand the area a bit as a shrine to Magranon. Not sure. Anyway I think this might be a pretty rare sight so thought I'd share / brag a little! The area is more open now and I've added some red lamps for night time because lava doesn't glow very well on its own. One of the tiles flowed onto the base, I froze it but what sucks is every time you Erupt or Freeze the slopes can change a little. I've now also verified that erupting a tile raises the northwest corner (that magic corner on which all 'tiles' are based) by 4-6 slopes. Freezing it doesn't change the slopes.

Had a little more consideration been taken in choosing a route, I would have likely helped with the project. Nobody likes having a situation forced upon them.

I want a say in what is done in the area in which I live. I want to live in peace. I want to not have canal projects or whatever forced down my throat. I want people to give me the same respect I give everyone else from the time I first meet them until they show they no longer want my respect. When I put in the Stigg-Amish Highway, I ASKED Aniceset could I do work in her area to connect the highway to Amish. I ASKED where she wanted it connected and adjusted my plans accordingly. I felt incredibly guilty that Cel had to relocate, and was actually planning on going around his deed in spite of the extra work it meant. I named it the Stigg-Amish Highway out of the great deal of respect I have for Ancientstigg, the man from whom Stiggmatta Nation got its name, and Aniceset, the very nice lady who owns and operates Amish Paradise. There have been a great number of misunderstandings of late, not the least of which is the level to which I drive myself to do things as correctly as I can, and my inability to trust people to give me the level of craftsmanship I desire when doing a project such as the highway among other things. We are a large nation with a small populace, but a huge work ethic. We have been here on Celebration since May, and have accomplished much. I only just started working on a personal residence for myself a week ago. I have been spending all my time working on infrastructure for our area and for our nation. You can sit there and say I am selfish and look out for only my own needs, but I do not see anyone taking up a collection to pay me for the Highway's construction. I wouldn't take the payment. We all needed it. So I stood up and did it. Ask Aniceset how many different things I have done to help without asking for any sort of payment. Call me selfish if you like, but you need to learn about me before you say unflattering things simply because I am opposed to something you feel is right. That is just ignorance. BTW, just say NO to the canal!

At 2, when Luciano posted, red path was still only 13. Must be a community leader "convincing" citizens to vote so "red path is winning" can be claimed. Some of those complaining didn't even want it. There is a highway from the south, a canal from the east, another from the north, and the Salsa Straights all opening into the inner sea in one location or another. This new canal that is being forced through IS about selfishness, but not on the part of people who are asking why the work is going forward already.

I heard that song on the radio, I didn't exactly get it either. Want a solution for your discontent? Don't watch youtube. Seriously. No, I am not joking. I don't watch youtube, I don't download other videos, I don't waste braincells on facebook and I still don't think anyone can hold a decent conversation on twitter. Afaiac the "social media revolution" is a waste of bandwidth. I haven't died yet.... and I have much less that annoys me when I use the internet. Just a suggestion.

I'm just curious about the status of this proposal. As it stands, the red path would cut right through my 21x25 deed. If you intend to build it underground, we have a big mine with numerous iron veins. I'm not necessarily dissenting, I'm just curious as to what is going to happen, as we have put a lot of work into our property, and now we have found out the canal is in progress (after being voted down).

In my opinion, titles received by meditating in a path should be selectable, just like other titles. Currently one is forced to use the "highest" title. I believe this limitation might have something to do with PVP, but it's pointless in Freedom.

-1 but maybe someday +1 At this point, this is unnecessary. However, if Wurm somehow manages to get over 1,000,000 players and has over 50,000 islands, then yes we need some form of fast travel.
  12. 1 point
Same opinion. Actually, its a gesture of kindness to leave things you find open and practically wrapped for whoever wants to take them. No deed, no rule breaking, then its just free stuff. As a pirate, I tend to be kind, and even leave things if I see the owner is active in some way (even if there are missing parts on a wall, or something). But if you find some disbanded deed and you want to take the things, and no one is there proving the ownership,... Just take it. Its all about personal ethics.

Traveling and exploring is a very important aspect of the world of wurm. Stumbling about long abandoned places with a neat huge old spider sitting behind a hedge..you would all miss it with fast travel. How fast travel can ruin a game shows GW2. landscape is nothing anymore, you just travel away, the spirit and the feeling for a game world is heavily damaged there. It would just damage WO too.

A lot of my villagers are poor college students, and I'd rather not have to buy 10 silver to get them one month premium when 2 months premium is the same cost, so perhaps allow us to gift playing time to other people? I don't see why this wouldn't be allowed. It'd be a great way to give a new player a few days of premium to see if they like the game.

Think this comes back to an issue on perspective and expectations. <Insert my normal wall of text warning here> People see the term Free to Play (F2P or any other label) and expect that they can participate at all levels of the game, but with some limits imposed. We all know Wurm does not do this. If the terms for Wurm's non-paying accounts were changed to be Free to Try (or some other term disassociated from preconceived notions of "Playing"), would this change your arguments? Non-paying accounts are a potential revenue stream, and do need to be cultivated, however a large portion of the existing "Premium" player-base seems to want to maintain a "separate but equal" mentality. This does not work in life and seldom in business. For example, can we look at it from the other side of the token... if non-paying/non-premium accounts could drive large carts and ride most mounts, how many premium account would let their premium status expire since you only would need premium for removing the 20 skill cap and deeds. I know several people with premium alts simply to mine/dig/other specific skills they use for mules so their main can be off elsewhere in search of glory and riches, or to multi-deed an area. Or, Would the premium player base be willing to give up deeds if their accounts lost premium status? (I'm betting at this point more than 1 one of the people reading this felt a flutter in their gut on this idea) Personally, I'm fine with non-premium accounts riding cows (even normal horses) or diving large carts, but would the people asking for these types of changes stop at this? History of the forum says No, we all always want more. Sure it'll quiet down for a bit, but eventually there will be a lull in the player-base, or someone will want to be able to do something that they cannot do under the non-premium tag, and it starts over... Also, keep in mind we have a very polar player base, most folks appear to be either on board for almost every change, or are against those same changes. While yes, they may cross "lines" and throw in with the other camp on specific ideas, generally you can look through the history of the threads and know you are likely to a +1 from some and a -1 from other certain people. You want to find out what it would take to bring in and keep those who leave? Ask them. Those of us here can say we've talked to player X and they said <insert random "facts" as to why they left>, but you already have a relationship, outside of a business based relationship, with them. What your friend tells you and what they tell a vendor tend to be wildly different things. If they're serious about coming back if things change, they'll have a list of things to talk about with the dev team. This is where your in-house Customer Service/PR team should really be looking to shine. You want a PR coup, convert players who have "given up" or "left forever" into returning, and eventually paying, customers. ::edit insert:: I'm not taking a shot at the PR and CS/CM/GM teams, I know enough of you (at least in-game or on the forums) to have an idea of what you go through daily. I'm simply expressing an interest in an area that is traditionally difficult for any customer driven product or service to capitalize on and is usually (incorrectly) targeted at existing customer views.

Collada is just the 3D model format. All of the old models use XSI, which is a very very old format - so Haradur put in a lot of work to get the Collada loader and render up and running. This is what's allowing us to have all of these cool new models and animations - but it isn't some magical solution to having multiple models for every item.

Pretty pathetic tactic, in my opinion. Look guys, go ahead and disregard our complaints but don't insult our intelligence. It's obvious your desire for a canal is greater than your desire to remain amicable with your neighbors. Frankly I think it may be time for a poll judging the community's interest in constructing a land-bridge across the lake.

This south canal has been pushed through and started against many complaints and efforts to have it stopped. It is currently running through 2 of our deeds and split them so we have no acces to our further east deed. I was currently working on a highway from the stigg-amish highway to go down and around our deeds to the peet that is east. It was to make it easier to travel by cart but because i was working on it as they came in and forced this canal to be started they ripped out the front of the highway thus making the peet and our deed no longer accesible. We need support to stop this ridiculous canal. There are other places they can do this where areas are not affected and they plan to try to dig into our mines below thus hindering our work we have done in our deeds. We are tired of stupid things like this canal cutting through are 2 deeds and tryng to dig in our mines. Please stop this canal and move it eleswhere.

Continuation of this thread? While I don't agree with the behavior, calling for a ban on an account still wouldn't solve the issue being complained about since the deed is placed and paid for. While this could be seen to violate the FCC, so could the calling for a ban on the account without the deed owner specifically and actively harassing specific people (or any other action considered to be "ban-able" for). The flip side, the FCC is prefaced with a statement that it is not a "Rule", which means it can only be encouraged, not enforced. Again, vague rules provide a lot of leeway for both sides of the argument, either this is allowable or it is not. Not everyone considers the same concepts, or supports the same beliefs of what is allowable under a "play nice" intent. ::Disclaimer:: Not connected to Code Club AB in any way beyond as a paying customer, my opinion is only my own and just that, my opinion. I do not present myself, or my opinion, in any capacity beyond the same as any other player.

I've said this a few times, sorry if you've already heard it, but people were living in a temporary dream world when the walls not made of bricks looked like they were made with bricks. Low stone walls are a quick throw-together made of jagged chunks of rock and they should look like it. I'm OK with lightening the texture and maybe smoothing out the top a LITTLE, but dead set against going back to the brick-like model. If people really loved those then it should be a new type of wall e.g. 'low brick wall' and require 10 bricks to make.

You may notice an icon on this thread that looks suspiciously like a lock. In fact its just a number of pixels that resemble the shape of a lock. Why is that peculiar jumble of pixels there you might ask? Simple. We are not opposed to the discussion of other games, but advertising is a whole other story. Also, the poster of this is a known member of the Xsyon group and is therefor misleading potential consumers. Oh, and now that I think about it, yes those pixels that look like a lock, are in fact a representation of the fact that this thread is locked.

Suggestions in short: - make mailing of all types of items to all servers (at least of same kingdom) possible - combined items to be counted as 1 cost wise - no more wrapping need for mailing - allow wrapping though for all items. ( sending wrapped presents is sometimes just more fun, with Christmas upcoming etc ) - items that fit in 1 container to count as 1 cost wise. Not a priority, but this might really help out new players and bring even more market options, game fun and game activity. Reasons: So, that local market argument never worked, and that seems the only argument against a mailing system improvement. I ended up grinding ropemaking up to 75 and farming to 85 because i could not find any local suppliers of sacrificing ropes. Not just no local, but no suppliers at all. It just ruins the fun for people to travel several hours if thats all the game time they have i guess. For me at least, traveling just to get an item that i could use, is not much of a fun factor really. So what happens i don't buy things that i would buy if they could be delivered by mail. I see it with myself, i rarely travel at all anymore. With just an hour or two game time daily, it is not feasible. Local markets never did work, since everyone rather wants their peace and space instead settling close to each other, and i believe most people do not exactly enjoy traveling for hours to get the stuff they would enjoy to have. While people on the other side are willing to spend money on items, they are not willing to spend like 4 hours or more waiting for them. So while people are willing to spend, and others willing to grind up the skills, these two have not much chance to make a business, except if mailing would work better. As i see it, there would be ALOT more activity , and alot more spending on the mailing, and alot more money converted (= more income to Rolf) if mailing would be made easier again. My suggestion would be, to just allow everything to be mailed that can be picked up to inventory. Simple as that. Also, that combined items no matter how many pieces they consist of, count as 1 item cost wise. Since for lumps and ropes and such small stuff it might really not make sense to mail them separately, but would be lucrative (and thus done more frequently) if they could be sent as bulk for less expense. I was also thinking if it might make sense to price relative to the cod value. But that might just make other market aspects that currently work, difficult then. So that might be rather counter productive. I would suggest though, no more need to box, wrap or any the like. It is just confusing. For sending bulk lumps it might still be interesting but it should not be a requirement to wrap, let's say a shovel, just to mail it. But while we are at it, please allow wrapping for ALL items. It just makes no sense to me why i could not give a cordage rope wrapped as a gift for example. Or a barrel. I would have given so many things as gifts already if they could be wrapped. I also like the idea of knowing who sent an item, and to get a message when something arrives instead having to camp the mailbox. The message upon arrival is a minor thing though, since people can as well tell me how long the mailing will approximately take so that i do not need to wait at the box all the time. The sending option of ALL items to ALL (at least freedom isles) servers and at resonable prices would be highest on my priority list. The freedom isles are in general more crafting oriented, so it would really increase the game fun if, lets say, you need a high coc shovel or rake and could buy it from someone on another server and it could be mailed easily. Or for example selling wine... i tried to sell some but paying 1.10 s to same server person for a barrel in mail cost looks still a bit steep to me. I am not saying mailing in general is too expensive, but in some cases it would really be good to have lower prices for bulk sending. Or lower expenses for some type items like it was done with papyrus. Not sure how much that is used anyways, since it is relatively hard to obtain. Just a few more use cases. There are a few in the game who have high mining skills. And another few with high smithing skills. One enjoys mining and would hate to smith, the other enjoys smithing and hates mining. Would be so much nicer if one can send 90 ql lumps in a bunch, at low expense, and the smith sends in return new weapons at high ql which he could usually not produce without appropriate iron supplies. Or how about a new person who just starts out, and needs an assortment of seeds, or a rope, or a fishing pole. One older player could simply mail them a barrel full of seeds to get started instead forcing the new player to botanize for hours and get killed a few times in the process, and then rage quits because of that. Now you might argue "could join a town" but seriously, who doesnt know the issue of new people being restricted on almost everything if new to a town, and the town leader to have the problem of fitting the new person in somehow, just to see them quit anyways after a short time. Some are just not interested in town life at all. Maybe the modern times, but playing on your own at your own rules, and just have the others on chat for company or trade, might work better for most. So please make improvements to mailing. It had been working nice before the recent changes with the wrapping and sending limitations. Not sure who even asked for the limitations and why. As said, that local market thing does not work out anyways, and got even more of a problem with the addition of servers and more distance between people. And forcing people into it would not even work if mailing was abolished in total. Each should have the option to specialize in what they like best. More fun that way. I see only good things to come from getting it back to where it was and then add some more improvements as suggested. Thanks!

We have received a complaint regarding this issue and we are actively checking into the complaints as well as our own actions to make certain all was handled as best as possible. The Wurm Online team treats everyone the same regardless of any physical or mental issues. We do not differentiate between people as to us everyone is on equal ground. Wurm Online is a very challenging game and like all multiplayer games it has a chat system that is required to follow certain guidelines. We welcome all who want to enjoy Wurm Online, and the Developers have provided to us the tools to opt out of the chat systems for those who cannot handle it or do not like it, and those options will be improved in upcoming updates. The power to improve or adjust your game and chat experience is ultimately in your hands. Thank you, Wurm Online Team

There's also the possibility that the law of the wurm universe differs from ours.
  43. 1 point
First -- that's true for working Americans, $6.50USD is pretty dang cheap entertainment for a month. But not all of our playerbase are Americans, and not all are working. But anyway It probably wouldn't make much difference in the end if Rolf charged $15 a month (frankly most of us would still pay), or if he charged only $1 a month (frankly most of the free players, would still not pay). Bottom line is ... most of us in Wurm already pay exactly what we feel like paying and very few "premium" players are really shelling out exactly $6.50USD a month. Some buy silver or even gold coins every month. Some have extensive and very expensive deed holdings that cost a lot more than their character's paid playtime. Some pay for 3 or 4 characters even if they only play one of them at a time, or even for characters they rarely ever play at all. I would wager there are a surprising number of Wurm players who pay $50 a month or more, or who now and then shell out $100 in order to buy some dragon armor, or a fancy new deed, or one of those magical no-decay chests or a rod of transmutation, or a prelevelled priest. Or all of the above. Most of us who play regularly, actually LIKE the idea that we can choose to spend as much or as little as we like, and still have FUN. The $6.50USD a month, and whether that "isn't much", isn't really the point. Even those who ARE paying precisely $6.50 a month, are actually being subsidized today by a much smaller pool of players who are paying far far far more than that. Wurm's success has NEVER hinged on having all 3,463 or whatever-the-number-is of premium subscribers, paying exactly $6.50 a month. Much of its success is actually because people pay what they want to pay, and that's usually MORE than $6.50 a month. Somehow "forcing" everyone into paying exactly $6.50 a month, accomplishes ... zilch. Rolf would actually be a lot poorer if that was the only working model, and we'd probably not be on the verge of seeing customer characters and new art and Wurm 1.0 et al. What makes a game a success is not always in percentage of paid subscriptions. That might have been true ten years ago, but not in today's gaming world. It actually has much more to do with whether the game is PERCEIVED as a success or as a failure. Whether it is dynamic and alive and fun, or decaying and dying A lot of MMOs have been shutting down despite having a small but solid core base of paying subscribers. Earth and Beyond, Asherons Call 2, Chronicles of Spellborn, Tabula Rasa, Shadowbane, Sims Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, now City of Heroes. I am sure I missed another dozen or more. Theres a wide variety of reasons why those games closed the doors, and it wasn't always because they could not pay their basic bills. Most of those MMOs shut down because they did not meet someone's expectation of success. In some cases their parent companies simply wanted to focus energies on other titles seen as bigger successes, and dump titles seen as failures, even if those titles were breaking even. In today's MMO world, what makes or breaks a game's success is NOT what percentage of the playerbase is paying the base subscription amount. That might have been true ten years ago but it is not true today. A game can be successfully profitable even when only 20% of the playerbase is paying money into the game. Often, what makes a game a success is just ... success. Lots of people logging in and having fun with friends. There is a special dynamic lifeblood in some games that have active and growing populations, and a certain morbid graveyard feel to games that have slowly decaying populations. If you join a Wurm village with 20 people, and nine weeks later its down to six, then there is a very good chance those last six people are going to start questioning each week if maybe they should also be leaving, and they are certainly going to question whether they should be investing MORE money into the game. The game never once changed in its core mechanics, but your attitude and feelings about the game changes as you see friends come and go. And the reverse is also true -- if you start a village with four people and a month or two later your village is growing and growing, even if now you are only up to nine people total, you still feel optimistic and excited. You start trying to talk more friends into trying the game. You start getting a little more free with the wallet, to buy that fancy weapon, those power tools, that deed expansion. Free to play players are not JUST "free trial players" who need to eventually either pay up or get out. They are also the players who may just play a few hours a week, and partly just to socialize with their friends who ARE premium. They are never going to be very powerful, being capped at 20 as they are, but they still have a big impact on the game just by giving it that "bustling, alive" feeling. Some may only play a few hours a month ... but maybe would play more often if they had more fun things to do. Some may play only a couple weeks .. but might still be playing if there was more "fun" for them to partake in. It's not about somebody "getting something for nothing," it's about whether a game is dynamic and fun enough that even more people want to jump into the pool. And I don't think minor things like letting them ride cows, or build a dugout canoe, or have a pet dog, is really going to end up "encouraging freeloaders". But if I have not convinced you of that by now, I seriously doubt 15 more pages from me (or even 15 more words), will make any difference. You might as well go back to the "7-day trial" (which most MMOs have now realized is shooting themselves in the foot) if the only concern was to punish the freeloaders. The issue has never been about PUSHING people into paying, but PULLING them into paying.
