    Hello. In order to prevent people creating PMKs just for money, could we introduce a system where the PMK gear (wagons, banners etc) unlock after reaching 1% influence? Wagons and banners are the main source of kingdoms funds, and their price is high because the money is needed for the deed upkeeps, expanding the kingdom, and other unexpected expenses. PMKs created purely for monetary gain are descreasing the value of other PMK's gear and destroys Chaos reputation. Thanks a lot.

    Alright, here’s what’s happening over the next few months. As said in the last dev blog, we’ve switched to a different update cycle with monthly smaller updates and interspersed larger marketable updates, aiming for a few large updates a year on a predictable schedule. This month’s small update includes the client rendering distance changes that have been worked on for the past while, as well as some new creature AI additions, and the usual slew of bug fixes. These AI changes are intended to finish off the work started a long time ago on the Valrei creatures with the initial Uttacha changes, making them more interesting encounters in combat than the usual ‘target and wait’ that a large portion of PvE combat is currently. These Valrei creature changes will ideally make any fights involving the remaining creatures more interesting and varied than normal, and will lead into some content for the planned large update later on. The June and July updates are currently planned to include a few new UI changes for the preview client, as well as overall UI QoL features and general combat & combat UI improvements with some focus on giving more information to the player about what is happening in combat, as well as the usual bug fixes and possibly another new feature that I’m not ready to share yet. The first planned large update in this new cycle will be a large expansion to an existing set of content in Wurm Online which will see players exploring new lands and working together against a common enemy - hereafter codenamed Frontier. It will combine a lot of existing features and recent changes in Wurm into a big chunk of new content available to all players - old and new. The Valrei creature changes going live this month are a precursor to some of the work that will be involved with this update, and the reason they are going out early is to help us gather feedback over the next short while to lead into some of the planned changes for Frontier. As I’ve said in the past I don’t want to share too many details before they are finalised or well underway, so the most I will give out right now is that it will be a large update with new repeatable content that should entice players with a wide range of interests, and touch most parts of Wurm as a whole. Later in the year after Frontier is complete we’ll be moving onto extending the building options available to everyone, and later on after that we will begin working on plans for introducing another new skill to the game. Frontier will also be a precursor for big changes that will come to Epic in the future, and feedback from how everything goes later in the year will inform us on how we implement the current plans that we have. These changes to Epic won’t be anytime in the next few months, but when they do come they will involve a large overhaul to the cluster in an attempt to bring it closer to the original design for Epic years ago. We will be addressing the larger complaints of the Epic community in that update - but some smaller changes will be heading to live in the coming months as well. For those changes see the recent feedback thread posted here. More info about the exact plans we have for later on will be shared after Frontier is live. As always, more information about everything we’re working on will be shared closer to the dates that they’ll be coming in. Frontier will be accompanied by a marketing push to help make the most out of the new update cycle, and is where everyone will get a lot more info about what exactly is coming into the game.

    I am looking for some clarification on these mechanics coming forward in the new elevation thread and how they are going to affect the game as a whole in the future. The original post by whereami was directed to pvp as a whole. but it appears that epic is once again getting all of the spotlight. That is fine. But what I want to know is, a lot of these mechanics are geared towards casual players and "bridging the gap", that is also fine to some degree. But I do not think we need to make the game so bland that there is absolutely no point in grinding. Without a reason to grind, this game becomes boring for a lot of us veterans, its why we're still around, right? This isn't counterstrike and I'm sorry if joeblow wants to jump in and play for 10 seconds and have his AK47 deal the same damage as my AK47 I spent 6 years grinding on. We have absurdly reduced a lot of the gaps in pvp,, what more do we need? does 90 body control need to be the same as having 21? Does 90 strength need to be the same effective as 21? Does 1 weapon skill need to perform effectively as 99? there needs to be a reason to play the game for more than 3 minutes per week i'm sorry but you're going to lose all of your veteran players, the ones that stuck around during the shittiest times of the game, if you're going to be essentially making every starter toon the same as people with 1k+ days playtime

    Step 1 : Hire staff members as volunteers Step 2 : For years on end disprove any issues players think the game has. Step 3 : Release your game as a different product on Steam and provide a sellout of that product on Humble for exactly the price of 1$ (Note that any sane individual would rather make a 1$ pay once in a lifetime than a 10$ pay every single month for a 95% similar game) Step 4 : Kill your PVP cluster ( Epic ) with a broken skiling system ( Skill grinded on freedom stays on freedom and goes to epic, but skill grinded on Epic only stays on epic so there is 0 point in grinding there, therefor the population is reduced significantly since 99% of the game is about grinding ) Step 5 : Ban people all around for either things they didnt commit ( The mass ban of WU a cople of months back ) or things done yeaaars ago that have been accounted for ( Proph's ban ) or ban them randomly ( People who were banned for saying " gary " in epic chat ) Step 6 : This is the final step. All thats left that u gotta do is completely censor the community every time they bring up either these issues or others, or basicly censor each and every thing that you do not want to come out and mass spread rumors. Killing the voice of the people therefor kills the hope they have for a better tomorrow. I know for a fact that this thread is going to be deleted so ill make a screeny. Good day to ya'll

    You forgot to address this: Step 9: The arrogance of the settled players resulting in chasing away the new players. Example: - A new player messes up a part of a highway, unaware you can't dig down at the side of the road, causing one of the tile borders to slope down 10 dirt. Reason why the new player digged down there, they were told they needed sand to create mortar and that particular highway had sand at its outlining. Result: in freedom chat the messed up road is reported, the entire community of that server is in anger about it because: "You are not allowed to mess with highways!! (ad 32 exclamation marks there)" and "It's always the n00bs messing things up, which we need to repair." The new player sees this, feels attacked and leaves the game. - At the same time, a known and settled player is interupting a highway to change the pavement to his / her liking, turning it into a 4 tile wide road with different pavement and eventually setting up a market without informing the residents of that area. And all of this is done with a deed that's basically blocking off the deed of another member, as well as having both perimeters hitting one another. When the player with the blocked off deed mention something about it, tells (s)he doesn't like it and considers it grieving, the answer (s)he got is : "if you don't like it, you should've deeded that area." Eventually that settled player decides that living with an unwanted market right next door isn't his / her cup of tea and decides to leave the game. Example 2: A player wants to ride a horse but can't and asks in CA-HELP why he can't ride that horse. Turns out the player in question is new and doesn't have the required 21 BC yet. At that point, all kind of more experienced players start to give "advice", telling the new one he had to do archery or archaeology, using tools with CoC, BotD, between 1 AM and 4 AM PST after sacrificing his virgin sister to Smeagain using a blunt kitchen knife. At some point, another more settled player joins in, saying that the new player should just enjoy the game, learn how to work with the skills and eventually that player will have the required BC to ride a horse. Which in turn resulted in other settled players reacting that this game isn't about enjoying, but about grinding until you got sick of it and then grinding some more. Result, said new player never shows up in CA-HELP again and most likely left the game. Example 3: - A player managed to get a crafting skill over 70 at an impalong. Because that player had in mind to set up a shop with his friends, he does a PC in trade chat about the items in said skill. The answer he got was: "10c because you're selling items others imped over 70ql at an impalong", done by a player who wasn't even present at said impalong. As a result, more players attack the first player who did the PC; even in PM, unaware that someone using a false claim started this riot. After two more of these "incidents" two of the friends of said player decided that enough is enough and leave the game. - Example 4: A new player settles down at steppes close to a starter's town. A settled player doesn't like that and starts harrasing her in PM and chat, eventually leading to that new player leaving that area, and settling at another spot in a forrest, just to find out players didn't like that and started harrasing her. Eventually, she decides enough is enough, as every attempt she or a few of her friends are doing to calm thing down and she leaves the game. I could go on with this, but I think the message is obvious enough. It's not the staff that kills the game, although they too are making decissions that make players leave the game. It's us, the more experienced players who're killing it by patronizing the new players, blaming them for things they weren't even aware of they shouldn't do, even blaming them when they haven't done those things; but at the same time ignoring the similar actions of the settled players. I've seen settled players messing up perfectly good tunnels / canals because they were "improving" those, only to leave the project after realizing they bit off a lot more as they could chew. I've seen settled players rant about n00bs messing up roads, but remaining very quiet the moment another settled player said (s)he did that because (s)he is / was improving the road by flattening it out by removing dirt at one spot and using it to fill up a downward slope at another spot. I've seen settled players having a public argument about which village was better to attrackt a new player. I'm still surprised that the pissing contest and the comparising of certain body parts hasn't happened at some point. Needless to say the new player didn't join either village in the end. I've seen settled players freaking out about a new player cutting down a birch 20 tiles from that settled player's deed. Only to find out two days later the settled player moved to the other side of the lake he lived at and went cutting down four mapgrids of forest, ignoring the 6 deeds in that region because "I had to grind my WC up". Like I said, I could go on and on with this, but I won't. It's us, the "veteran" and "settled" players who're arrogant enough to believe we own this game; simply because we're playing it longer and therefore have better skills and thus are able to create the better items. As well as having been able to pick the better spots and form them the way we like to. In our arrogance, we start a new character, equip it with the best ql items we can create and then tell a new player that starting isn't as bad is they think it is. In our arrogance we think that having a 50ql longsword, a 30ql armor and a 30ql shield makes a new player invunerable; because "when I started all I had was a 10ql short sword"; ignoring that the items are only half of what's needed to survive, as it doesn't matter what ql armor, weapons and skill level you got. A monster trail still kills you, even if you wear 99ql rare drake and wielding a 99ql rare glimmer steel huge axe. Maybe it's time we, the settled players, start looking at our own behaviour and realize it's us who're chasing away the players; despite the dev's trying their best to make this game better. I'm not saying I agree with everything the dev's and staff does, because I don't. I've seen certain players been protected by certain staff members, resulting in players being leaving this game or getting a perma ban because they freaked out to some staff members after being pissed off by a certain player for some time. But if I have to compare the actions of the dev's and staff versus those of the community, I'm sad to say that it's the community that looses. Big time. And I can only conclude, that if there's a need for a change, it's the community that has to start to change first. But I doubt that'll happen. Thorin

At this point we'd like to hear from you in regards to whether you want this to happen. This is not a 50% pass non binding, and we have chosen a forum vote as we are able to see who votes and discount alts as well as other factors, but your voice is important and we would like to see how you all feel.     Hi Everyone On saturday we encountered an issue with the restart that could have caused potential catastrophic disruptions to the game. Luckily we were able to address it prior to any loss (and avoided the need for a rollback) but this was at the cost of a significant downtime and multiple restarts. Due to the lost time from this we will be providing 5 hours sleep bonus during our update on the 6th of June. The usual cap of 10 hours will apply. So spend your week getting your sleep bonus down!

    Distant rumblings are heard as rumour spreads, the creatures of Valrei have taken notice of freedom lands, and seek to test your mettle... Over this weekend we'll be hosting Valrei invasions at various starter deeds, with the intention to hit all major start deeds (Xanadu might not get them all, but I think we still left the portal to vrock landing up, so we might just use there). We'll give approximately 2 hours notice via the event tab ingame, so be ready to set forth! We'll be using the new creature combat AI for deathcrawlers, sol demons, eagle spirits as well as the spawn of uttachas existing mechanics, previously only on epic.     Can you change the "eye" to a number that represents your level of focus? So would say 1-5 instead of just an eye. Keep the eye for the initial none focus part, but also have the "eye" turn "green" when you can start using focus then change to numbers. I'd like to see the numbers green if you could gain focus, red numbers if you lose focus.

    The fact we are arguing over creating a pvp kingdom for the sake of making money just further exposes a core issue with Wurm in that its own mechanics actively encourages treating the game like a job over valuing the gameplay potential it offers. The next issue that stems from this is that pvpers need to treat it as a part time job in order to pay for every last necessity the game forces on them, while people sit back and look at just a 2 month prem cost and 11x11 deed cost and scream how cheap this game is +1 for finding ways to remove financial exploits, but also for finding ways to remove needing them without negative impacts. You know, like me suggesting for years that res stones should be 1s because people with good gear are using them no matter what so it just makes it more available..

    We have been going over your feedback and these are some changes/additions to my original post. The poll with a full list of final changes should be up later this week once the final details are decided on until then let us know how you feel about these revised changes. Fresh Item Elevation After reading through the feedback we all worked to see what the technical details would be to make something like this possible. Below are what we believe would be viable for the scope of this reset. We are still exploring the final details of how to execute some parts of this so details subject to change. Will only be in effect for the first few months, no set date likely when people feel they are ready for it. Anyone who does not move off elevation on their own will be forcefully moved to their kingdoms home server starter village during reset downtime. Server border travel between any epic server will be disabled. Mail between any epic servers will be disabled Any mail you have waiting for you on elevation will be sent to the home server with you Only way to get to elevation will be from starter deeds teleports to it, will require you to be 100% naked and carrying no items to cross. This will mean no home server raids for the first few months everyone will basically be stuck on elevation, there is no way around this I can think of. You would also not be able to move items from 1 home server to the other during this period. Any ideas about ways you might think to smuggle items would be appreciated before they can ruin the reset. No Traders on New Elevation Teleports We realize people have some concerns about removing teleports, if it becomes an issue they can always be turned back on but we would like to see how it goes to start. Farwalker stones and twigs will not be sold on new elevation with removal of traders, for now home servers will still be able to use them and buy them. Minedoors Wish there was time to rethink minedoor mechanics more but other than removing the limit per 11x11 area we will be keeping gaps between doors and adding interrupts to placing mine doors similar to when building walls. Remove the limit per 11x11 area. Will still be required to have 3 full tile gaps between mine doors placed. Combat interrupts placing mine doors. Hell Horses Because they exist already on home servers just removing them is not possible long term, we could make it so you cannot ride them or hitch them on elevation as a middle ground. Remove riding and hitching of hell horses on elevation. Make horses slow down more consistently time wise from taking damage.

    My suggestion is don't listen to anyone. Players don't make good game developers. Everyone is going to have a different opinion especially when a game has so much content. The player with SOTG loves it, and his enemy hates it. Guy living peacefully on a hill on JKH loves it, and his enemies wanting PvP on Elevation hate it. For every mechanic and feature in Wurm someone is strongly for it and someone is strong against it. It's impossible to read everything in this thread and create the perfect Elevation server. Do what you want and feel is the best direction, but don't steer away from it because of negative feedback. Rolf was actually a pretty chill guy, but back in the day you could just go into IRC and ping him and get anything nerfed or changed. He shaped the game over time to what players wanted and look where that left us. Best case scenario you make a cool new server and people love it. It can't get any worse honestly.

    Nope, a mirror was never available for purchase from a trader. And the only ability to trade them was due to a bug in which you put the mirror in a container then traded. Would be nice to have them available for simply 1s from a trader though, or even just the ability to change your appearance at any time, as I hardly see any harm in it.

    In the latest dev stream, the following question and answer came up: Q: "Is a skill reset on epic on the table for updates later on down the line." A: "Down the line there will be large changes like that, yes, but not any time in the next few months." Can this be expanded on further@Retrograde? I know I'm not alone when I say, I do not want a skill reset on the server which I have spent the last 7/8 years playing. And people are going to want to know if their years of playing are going to be undone, whether or not it's "in the next few months". Personally I feel that the people demanding skill resets would probably be better off with a Challenge-esque server cluster where they can fight with sticks in perpetuity. Although I'm guessing Challenge was stopped for a reason?
