Java 7 Update 5 Unsigned Certificate Solution

Recommended Posts

We are getting a number of complaints regarding unsigned certificates when launching Wurm Online as of the latest Java update.

The problem is the cache of the old Java and here are 2 ways to clear it.

First solution thanks to Revnik:

Go to Start, Run, type "javaws -viewer" and hit enter.

Highlight Wurm and hit the red X to delete it.

Click "Close" in the bottom right.

The Java Control Panel should be open. Click the "Security" tab.

Click "Certificates".

Highlight "OnetooFree AB" and click "Remove".

Close everything and try running Wurm again.

Also, you can click Play on WurmOnline.com. If you are running IE you can right click and "launch application" rather than downloading a new file every time.

A second Windows version to correct it:

1. Uninstall all java installations in Add/Remove Programs

2. Go to www.java.com in your favored web browser and install the latest java update it recommends.

3. Open up the Java Control Panel in windows Control Panel ( in the Programs section of Win 7)

4. Look at the [Temporary Internet Files] section and click [View].

5. Right click on and [Delete] each Wurm client then click [Close]

6. Look again at [Temporary Internet Files] section and click [settings]

7. Click [Delete Files] and the default settings should be already set so click [Ok]

8. Click [Ok] and close out of the java control panel and any other windows.

9. Go to wurmonline.com and click Play

This may be a step or too more involved than needed, but it works.

How to install desktop shortcuts that work with updates by Xandra

Hi,

You can be helped. At first we need the directory of the Java web start application. A search for "javaws.exe" on your boot disk should reveal it.

It's usually here for 32bit Java:

C:\Windows\System32

and usually here for 64bit Java:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64

(this should suit for most installations of not age old Windows, as long as C:\ is your boot disk)

We'll call this the "working directory".

Now we'll add this working directory to a call to the Java web start app and to the URL of the Wurm client, nicely connected in a command line suitable form.

Stable client:

[working directory]\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp

Unstable client:

[working directory]\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp

Got it? Connected those strings? Isn't this hard, right?

(Hint: It helps to have a simple text editor open for such tasks, for instance NotePad or something more advanced)

For homework, here are all the possible valid strings - find out what will do what, and what's the one you want to use ;-)

C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp
C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp

We'll call this the "target".

Sounds complicated? You don't understand really? You don't want to bother with all this IT babble? Well - you might play RL card games, too ...

But anyways, these following values should be safe in any case:

Default working directory:

C:\Windows\System32

Default target:

C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp

Now, right click the desktop, "New" -> "Shortcut".

  • Should an assistant come up and ask you for the location of the element, paste the "target" of your choice shown above, stable or unstable, 32 or 64bit, or the default, as you desire.

It will ask you for a name then, well, "Joe", "Xandra" or "Wurm" are nice names, right? Choose one, type it.
    [OK] now. You're done.
    .
  • No assistant? Don't worry:
Right click the newly created shortcut, chose "Properties", and have a look at the window that pops up. Tabs! It should come up with the "Shortcut" tab activated, at "Target" (first white line) paste the according "target" of your choice shown above, stable or unstable, 32 or 64bit, or the default, as you desire.

Below, at "Execute in" it's always the matching working directory from above.
    [OK] now. You're nearly done.

Right click the new shortcut again, "rename". Regarding names, "Joe", "Xandra" or "Wurm" are nice names, right? Choose one, type it. [Enter], finished.

Isn't this a walk in the park?

Now you can start Wurm w/o browser from your desktop (or from wherever you move this shortcut), can utilize a 64bit Java if you have installed one, and as soon as the client is updated you'll have a short auto-download, and the brand new client after this.

Crazeee new tech! Praisez Fo for this!

And have a good time!

You can type "javaws -viewer" into the searchbox and hit enter. Windows will run the command. As an alternative you can bring up the "Run command" dialog by pressing Windows key+R.

The first post option worked for me with the latest update. I use desktop shortcut, the new version installs a shortcut so hopefully this is no longer an issue.

Isn't there an easier way to do this. Then going through all that? Like a real launcher or something?

This was a fix for an old problem the new java does not have these issues with certificates if installed correctly. If you install the game correctly and have your java set to update then you should have no troubles and the game will update any java related changes when needed and set up new desktop shortcuts to the new versions of the game as they come out.

Got it. If you have even a 32 bit or 64 bit. click on open with. Then search for C:\Windows\System32. When you open the file C:\Windows\System32. Scroll down to find javaws.exe. Click on it. Then select open. Then it will download updates. Just wait until it is done. Then follow the process.
