World in Balance

Recommended Posts

WiB is a forum game based on nations, where you take control of a modern nation and guide it to world conquest. Or something.

Send me a PM requesting to join along with the nation you will play as and the colour that will represent you on the world map. You must send a PM to me to say what your nation is doing each day. Each "turn" will take one day to compile and post.

Rulesets:

Classic:

As played in the original Wolrd in Balance. Essentially a purely roleplay game, the game moderator manages all things from recruitments to rebellion to victory and defeat. The game is essentially dictated by the moderator, with player input to sway the decisions of nations. The game will start in a predetermined time period (usually in the 21st century) with borders, militaries, and national statistics as they were in that year.

New Age:

Players will start out with a single village in the Stone Age and work their way into the future through technilogical, colonial, religious, and military gains. Your society is built by you over the centuries, and major population centers are makred on the map as "cities". Military units are displayed on the map as small icons, and may only be produced near cities. Dice rolls determine everything from battle outcomes to technilogical advances.

Great War:

the game usually starts in 1900. Nations do not strive to invent things; they will be invented as the timeline permits. Tanks may be created in new tank models; the older a tank the worse it will perform, but the easier it will be to produce en masse. There is a specific (hidden) amount of factories a nation has, and turns are sent in with percentages of factories to be used in unit production.

Those two adresses (which will appear in every turn at the bottom of the page here) are where i get the figures for military sizes. Look there for reference to the power of non-player nations. When a player nation goes to war with or changes the statistics on a non-player nation, I will bring up those numbers in that turn. All of the numbers shown here are generalizations of various military branches, because it would be a bit too tedious to manage the exact number of frigates, artillery, stealth bombers, tactical nukes, machine gunners, etc. Remember that the total active forces of a nation should usually never exceed around 1-2% of its population during peacetime, although depending upon how involved they are in a large war and the style in which a nation trains and arms its men, that number may fluctuate greatly.

How this game will run, is you will send in a turn for events that occur in your nation over the course of the next year. Be specific when attacks will happen and when you plan to take certain objectives by. The time of year for an attack may determine its outcome (Russian winter, for example, foiled the German blitzkrieg). Military is not the only thing you need to worry about, so make sure to specify other things such as research, taxes, diplomacy, and public works.

New players are placed into the game on January first of the next year, meaning that if you wish to join you may also send in a turn for that year and all events you want to happen will have time to occur.

Oi! Mofo stole teh countries with a kickass navy. :(

Of course the USA and Russia have the biggest navies, but those are choice nations and those who get here first get to pick first. But China and Japan are open, and they have pretty large starting navies. Not to mention, naval forces are not that hard to produce in large quantities once you have a good economy under your belt.

Grm. With Slon as Russia, a blitzkrieg against China would be his first move, and the lack of nukes on China's side would be catastrophic, MAD not being so real in WiB. Japan, fairly easy once China falls.

Perhaps nuclear weapons will be more effective in this game then. Cuz I do want a realism factor in the game, so strategic nuclear weapons should be a big deal when they are used.

Yeah. Having a state by which MAD doctrine is necessary for for any type of survival, so long as LOLNUKES aren't allowed in from the major players.

Aight, I propose that we don't use nukes until at least round 3, for the sake of not insta-ending the game.

BlazerX - USA (blue gray)

Robotnik - Finland (blue)

Slon - Russia (red)

Iulianx - Argentina (yellow-green)

Talfryn - China (yellow)

January 1:

-USA requests that Canada be annexed into the United States. Canada refuses.

-Several central asian nations are requested by Russia to be annexed. All refuse.

-Russia starts cooperation talks with Armenia and Azerbeijan, but neither nation agrees to work with eachother and now see Russia as being intrusive.

-China is renamed The Glorious Nation of Yggdrasil. Many are confused why, but ultimately most do not care. The 1 child only limit has been banished as well.

January 2:

-Kazakhstan begins a full mobilization of their military forces as a defense from possible Russian aggression.

-Russia begins a full mobilization and millions are being pulled out of reserves for mass training exercises in west Russia. Baltic and Black sea fleets are being placed on high alert.

-The Russian government begins ceasing the assets of many major companies, and many urban projects are abandoned for relocation of funds to expand fuel production, military spending, and health care.

-China begins construction on two new aircraft carriers.

January 15:

-China mobilizes large portions of their land forces along the Mongolian and Russian borders. This is claimed to be a preventative defensive measure. The Chinese military elsewhere is converging on other borders.

-Russian government officials, military officers, and corperate leaders are being jailed for corruption and sedition.

January 28:

-China launches an invasion of Vietnam. The unprepared and shocked Vietnamese are very easily defeated and forced back.

February 1:

-Following the continued refusal for annexation, the United States shuts down their entire border with Canada. This places many companies on both sides of the border out of business, especially the Canadian side of the Niagra falls tourist spots.

-China has begun a massive industrial effort to build more strategic nuclear weapons.

February 6:

-Hanoi falls to the Chinese.

February 8:

-Laos is invaded by China. Similar to Vietnam, Laos was completely unprepared for an attack and are very easily being defeated in every engagement.

-Burma and Thailand mobilize their military forces in response to Chinese agression in Indochina.

February 9:

-Burma and Thailand are invaded by China. They have had little time to mobilize and prepare, and the military mobilization movements have lead to mass confusion in both nations after the sudden Chinese strike. Many soldiers and military equipment is destroyed in transit towards the border by Chinese dive bombers.

-Laos surrenders to China.

-Kim Jong Il cuts off ties with China and mobilizes a large portion of his forces along the Chinese border.

February 10:

-Vietnam refuses to surrender, although their military is crushed and routing.

-Cambodia, certain that China intends on attacking them next, launches an attack on advancing Chinese forces in Vietnam, and provides aid supplies to fleeing Vietnamese troops.

February 21:

-Russian tanks are being re-fitted with larger guns and more advanced fire control systems, placing them more on par with the tank forces of western nations. These new designs are being dubbed as T-95's.

February 23:

-Tailand surrenders to China, and Chinese forces reach the Cambodian border in the west. Thai forces have been given assylum in Cambodia and southern Vietnam, and are fighting the Chinese there.

February 24:

-Malaysia is invaded by China.

March 1:

-The US establishes a blockade in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Vancouver port, and the Hudson bay.

March 3:

-Canada mobilizes their military in response to American agression.

-China captures Phnom Penh and Cambodia surrenders. Vietnam collapses on the same day.

March 6:

-Canada appeals to the United Nations to sanction the United States for its agressive behavior. However, the UN is much more concerned over a possible return of the Soviet Union, and very little is done to intervene.

-Russian military expenditures are now exceeding capable spending, and taxes are being raised dramatically. The Russian government has begun seizing more private property and absorbing an increasing number of bussinesses.

March 7:

-The European Union and NATO have seperate meetins to discuss an increasingly threatening Russia. Many note that their recent developments mirror those of an early Soviet Union, and have speculated that soon the western world will need to counter this threat.

-Burma is defeated by China.

March 12:

-Estonia and Latvia order full mobilizations.

March 16:

-Finland mobilizes.

April 1:

-The United States mobilizes land forces on the Canadian border.

April 15:

-China invades Nepal, Bhutan, Bangledesh, and North Korea at the start of Spring. Chinese forces reach Thimphu and Bhutan surrenders on the first day.

-India mobilizes their military forces.

-The UN places an embargo and new trade sanctions on China.

April 17:

-Nepal halts Chinese forces in the mountains.

April 30:

-Nepal surrenders to China.

-North Korean soldiers, after a long stalemate on the Chinese border, have now pushed their way forwards and are steadily making gains into Chinese territory. Mass recruitment drives in North Korea have led to massive casualties and infantry centered tactics.

May 1:

-The United States launches an attack on Canada without declaration of war. The border is crossed in several areas, especially in the provinces of Yukon, British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario.

-Immediately following the invasion of Canada, a mass recruiting drive is begun.

May 2:

-Canada appeals to the UN a second time on the issue with the United States. Now, the UN places several trade sanctions on the US.

-American forces capture Vancouver.

May 3:

-The United States starts up many national fund raising projects akin to those run in WW2. This money is invested mostly into the military industry.

May 5:

-Ottawa falls to the Americans. Canadian forces are now largely dispersed and unorganized.

May 6:

-Canada surrenders to the US.

-China invades India.

May 7:

-The Canadian economy is nationalized by the United States government, and Canadian industries are turned towards producing military equipment for the US army.

-The United Nations establishes a trade embargo on the United States, but many member states that have much to gain from trade (such as China, Japan, and Germany) refuse to abide by the embargo.

-Seeing that the Chinese threat is greater than the problem of the ongoing Korean feud, South Korea signs an armistice with North Korea in order to temporarily demilitarize their borders. This provides more forces and materials for North Korea to force the Chinese deeper into Manchuria.

June 10:

-The North Koreans reach the outskirts of Beijing. Chinese forces, currently in a stalemate with India, have been diverted to fight the North Koreans and keep them from capturing the city.

July 16:

-North Korea launches a massive offensive on Beijing. The city is in the midst of evacuating its denizens, many of whom are being recruited off the streets directly into a militia force to keep the Korean out of the city.

July 20:

-The Battle of Red Square in Beijing results in a Korean victory, and the North Korean flag is raised there claiming victory over China. The chinese government refuses to recognize their claims and continue to fight.

July 24:

-The Korean offensive is pushed back and Red Square falls into the hands of the Chinese. Kim Jong Il demands that the location be immediately recaptured, and another bloody battle occurs there.

July 25:

-In a radical attempt to cut back on Chinese supplies in Beijing, North Korea launches an ICBM to impact several miles outside of the city to the south-west. This is a devestating blow to the Chinese forces, and North Korea advances quickly to fully capture the city. Kim Jong Il demands the surrender of China.

August 6:

-North Korean forces finish the occupation of Manchuria, and the Chinese forces there, having been cut off from supplies coming from the south, surrender to Korea.

September 12:

-North Korea reaches a stalemate with China. Major offenses have died down and the offensive line has stagnated.

September 28:

-China launches a new offensive into central India from Nepal.

September 30:

-India begins an attack into western China.

October 19:

-Nanotechnology research in the United States brings small developments, which are looked into with hope by generals for possible weapon production. Judging by current investment into the projects and requests for prototypes by the government, scientists say they will never be able to meet the current deadlines.

October 23:

-Indian forces attacking west China are pushed back.

-After spending a time building up forces, North Korea launches a major offensive around the Yellow Sea.

October 27:

-North Korea captures one of China's aircraft carriers that is still under construction on the shore of the Yellow Sea.

November 9:

-Indian counterattacks regain ground in west China.

December 25:

-China completes a new aircraft carrier.

Prolly a lot. 's why we big countries need to think about these things. 10% sounds reasonable. Isn't your population like, 175M?

EDIT: Wait. Hrm. I just checked, and 10% is 175M troops. Sounds reasonable to me, this being a very dangerous world. In fact, 175 million armed men and women makes perfect, logical sense.

DOUBLE DRAMATIC EDIT: Gosh darnit, I forgot about reserves. :( If somehow my troops magically all die, I need replacements. And well, they need to be an equal number of replacements, it's just sensible.

The government of China suggests that the Russian bear not try to move countries around. However, because it is a bear, the government of China is willing to explain this simply. Russian bear has 141.93 Million fishes, and 13,000 hot pockets. Bear cannot give more then one or two hot pockets to China, for it gives bear bad indigestion along with China.

China, has 1,753.85 Million fishes. This is a lot. How many lots, Russian bear asks? 12 more lots then you have. The Spartans had better odds at Thermopylae, Russian bear, but that is not fishes. Along with their megalotts fishes, China has 240 hot pockets. China can graciously donate many hot pockets for the good of Russian bear, because Moscow is far away from Beijing, unlike most of Russian bears foraging grounds, which are close to Beijing. They do not need, or need to give, hot pockets.

China suggests Russian Bear looks at the arithmetic and does not try to do anything but protect it's fishes. In Soviet Peoples Republic of China, we like math. More particularly, we like ODDS.
