Unable to modify stone wall in certain conditions

I was modifying a bunch of stone walls into plain stone walls on a 2 story building when this happened: [14:45:40] The iron fence is in the way.

 

Its a 2nd story stone wall i am trying to modify with pliers into a plain stone wall so i can render it.

The iron fence is on the opposite side of the tile.

Inside the structure i get: [14:44:53] The plain stone wall is in the way. (this is the bottom floor of the building wall)

 

Pic bellow shows the fence and the 2nd floor wall I am trying to modify.

Edit: The bottom floor has the same issue when trying to modify a plain stone wall into a stone wall.

Hmm can't see pic but yeah it's a common thing, ran into it last year. Gotta remove the fence then modify then rebuild fence.
